- Political journalist Ava Santina and Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan have clashed in a heated discussion about transgender women competing in women’s sports.
Trans swimmer Lia Thomas has now mounted a legal fight against World Aquatics to overturn its restrictions on the participation of trans athletes in elite women's competitions.
“I don’t think it’s fair that people who have experienced gender dysphoria when they’re growing up and don’t feel they’re in the right body should not be allowed to compete in sports,” Ms Santina told Mr Morgan.
“Lia Thomas, she’s a woman, and so she is competing as a woman.
“What do we say about trans women … do we just say they’re not allowed to play sport ever?”

Lia Thomas was ranked around 450th as a man in collegiate sports. “She” was ranked number 1 as a “woman” in collegiate sports.

What Ava doesn’t understand is that sport is not an emotional game - it’s about natural athletic ability. The reason that sports are segregated is because the sex-based differences between men and women are too great to ignore. Longitudinal studies now confirm that, despite HRT decreasing volumes in muscle cross-sectional areas, lean body mass and strength after 12-36 months of hormone therapy, these values remain higher than that in biological women. Therefore it’s reasonable to state that a trans woman would present physiological advantages such as: overall larger body size, more skeletal muscles, higher muscle strength and power, lower body fat, and greater maximal anaerobic/ aerobic energy delivery.

That’s what I’ve been saying all along , that the answer is simple and fair to all, exactly as there are sporting categories for men/boys and women/girls where these compete fairly against their peers, so have categories for trans persons in all sporting events to compete against their peers which is competing against like trans persons. Why ever trans persons are not demanding this themselves is worth investigating and those in sporting competition authority should be investigated to discover what their real aim is in deliberately ruining women/girls sporting activities . To add, also interesting and deserves investigating is why isn’t there this same problem with trans males competing in men/boys competitions?
