Great video. Ive been looking for retro i fo on a 2nd gen but looks like most people just throw in a LED bulb or pay someone a lot of money yo do a retro. Ill be using morimoto projectors but this was a huge help. Btw, are those 2.5" or 3"?
Im getting ready to do this myself, but want to retain the OEM style lights but am worried that the "texture" of the OEM glass is going to have an effect on light output. any thoughts?
Correct. The OEM diffused lenses will not work and provide a crisp cutoff line. You'll have to swap to a clear aftermarket lens. To retain as OEM as possible, I'd go with chrome housing lights with an amber reflector.
I have not had any codes before, but I’m familiar with P1689 from reading forums. Loss of comm between VP44 and ECM. Seems like most folks start by checking grounds, then verifying the VP44 harness and connectors are still good then start ensuring wires aren’t broken or shorted out. I’d also ensure your lift pump is still supplying adequate fuel to your VP44 by a flow test and not just off the gauge...but it’d be less of a chance the gauge is bad and the lift pump bad. If it’s not, and you’ve got low flow over time, it could’ve contributed to an overheated/burned out VP44 (since the fuel flow through it helps cool it, which is why many including myself tune the lift pump to deliver 14-15 psi to keep the bypass slightly open and make the pump run cooler).
@@md9897 tune the stock lift pump?? If I knew how to do that it would save me 700 for a new one. I’m almost sure it’s a electrical problem the lift pump pushes steady at 10 psi at idle. Of course I have the dead pedal limp mode but everything sounds like it runs good but I didn’t check any connections. I will do that tomorrow just was hoping that was it and not the vp44 being out
@@md9897 thanks for tbt reply also it doesn’t seem like many people on forums have my problem or have a solution. There was one where one of the wires was cut and he fixed that and it was perfect but everyone suggesting check relay. Grounds and connections
@@ixryq8368 By tune the lift pump, I was referring to aftermarket lift pumps. I have an AirDog and adjusted it to be a steady 15psi of fuel pressure at idle. If you’ve only got 10psi at idle, I’d hate to know how low it dips under a load. Might be part of the problem if you’ve had low fuel pressure under load for a while
@@md9897 gotcha. I will def check more into that tomorrow and I will check into the wiring. I was actually gonna take the ecm off the vp44 and fix the resistor myself instead of paying 1200 for it to be fixed. I have all the tools I need to but that’s IF that is the specific problem. I know for a fact I do need a bigger lift pump like airdog though

Thanks! The projectors I used were 2.5"
Hi! Can you send the link of your fog lights?
See if this works:

@@md9897 thought so. Thanks!
Is that little wire clip deal on the bottom of the bulb touching the floor of the housing?
If you’re referring to the wire clip on the backside of the bulb that holds it in place, no it doesn’t interfere with the headlight housing
@@md9897 Hey thank you! I built me a set not long after watching your video and a few others.
Have you ever had a p1689 code? I just bought a 99 24v and tryna see what’s wrong with it. It’s in limp mode lift pump psi is good
