Amazing! The more examples I see of this, the more I want everything in my house to be on french cleats. Seems like such an elegant and useful design that can be scaled easily as your needs change. I really like the whimsy of the stop animation touches too, that's a nice flourish.

    Hi Frank,
I've only just been bitten by the woodworking bug and learned of the French cleat only yesterday. Yours was the first video on the subject I viewed and all I can say is: Wow Thanks!
Not only have you shown me what I thought I was looking for, you have inspired me in a way I wasn't expecting and shown me some pretty interesting techniques too. The stop-motion work is stellar and really added a lot to my enjoyment of the piece.
I am at the "build the stuff to let me make the stuff that will let me build my first workshop" stage, and I can see incorporating this throughout. Start small, and the rest will follow. Thanks again!

  • @karanadon137

Very neat idea. The results are both functional and classy looking.
At 6:41, I was happy to see that the lowest shelf on the back wall is polite to its neighbors, moving aside for the shelves moving in.

Beautiful versatile system. I love the way you planned out all the possibilities too. Those cleat modules are much easier to fabricate than a static storage system too, so it's pretty well futureproofed. And I totally agree on the baltic birch sides looking great as is, that's what I'm building my longboards out of too. A Light scuff with some high grit sanding sponges is enough to make those sides shine bright!
    Thanks for uploading frank!

I see I first watched this a year ago and left a comment. My first use of this design was to make a suspended office desk using a french cleat on the back and side of the desk and then two small blocks nailed above the desk to the stud to hold the desk in place. I've been using it for almost a year now and it's held up well. For what it does (provide a place for my keyboard, mouse, and odds and ends, the monitors are mounted on the wall) it's perfect and was so simple to make, just two pieces of plywood cut like an 'L' and some 1x3s between them so I have drawers. Thanks for the inspiration!
I had to revisit your video today because now it's time to do my office closet and get everything now stored in boxes off the floor. Thanks for the simple shelves and hooks, that's exactly what I need! Your videos just keep on giving....
