i watch a lot of DIY videos but this is the first time i was really entertained while watching, keep up the good work, Frank, you deserve a thumbs up and a click on the red button.
I'm still going through all your old videos. Great stuff- this is the type of thing my wife will see about 45 seconds of video and then ask, "Have you built mine yet?"
I remember watching this video eight years ago when it was first posted, and now that I'm coming back to it looking for ideas for my own home, it's bringing back lots of nostalgia. Thanks for making these videos, Frank.
Amazing! The more examples I see of this, the more I want everything in my house to be on french cleats. Seems like such an elegant and useful design that can be scaled easily as your needs change. I really like the whimsy of the stop animation touches too, that's a nice flourish.
One of the best youtube "how-to" videos ever. Even your voiceover is pleasant. If there were youtube "Oscars" (and someday soon, there may be), this one would surely be nominated.
Hi Frank, I've only just been bitten by the woodworking bug and learned of the French cleat only yesterday. Yours was the first video on the subject I viewed and all I can say is: Wow Thanks! Not only have you shown me what I thought I was looking for, you have inspired me in a way I wasn't expecting and shown me some pretty interesting techniques too. The stop-motion work is stellar and really added a lot to my enjoyment of the piece. I am at the "build the stuff to let me make the stuff that will let me build my first workshop" stage, and I can see incorporating this throughout. Start small, and the rest will follow. Thanks again!
Very neat idea. The results are both functional and classy looking. At 6:41, I was happy to see that the lowest shelf on the back wall is polite to its neighbors, moving aside for the shelves moving in.
Thanks Frank, I showed the video to my wife and now she wants me to build this type of system for all of the storage closets when we build the new house. I really do mean thank you. She wants to help make the units and it will be great fun with my wife in the shop.
I had heard of the french cleat system before, but this convinced me to install one in my pantry. Thanks for the inspiration. I've been methodically making my way through all of your videos. I appreciate your work a lot.
Nice touch at 4:32. I'm always amazed at people who not only take time to make videos of lengthy projects, but also add some nice production value to it.
Excellent filmmaking. It did not only showcase the editing skill level, but also made it possible for the viewer's imagination to complete the visual and understand the inner workings of the process.
I watched this twice - once for the information and again to marvel at the high degree of professionalism of the presentation. Congratulations on a flawless job and beautiful craftsmanship.
Beautiful versatile system. I love the way you planned out all the possibilities too. Those cleat modules are much easier to fabricate than a static storage system too, so it's pretty well futureproofed. And I totally agree on the baltic birch sides looking great as is, that's what I'm building my longboards out of too. A Light scuff with some high grit sanding sponges is enough to make those sides shine bright! Thanks for uploading frank!
Your videos are amazing. I have been watching videos on French cleats and yours is so full of little tips it beats all the good ones, hands down. Thanks.
I see I first watched this a year ago and left a comment. My first use of this design was to make a suspended office desk using a french cleat on the back and side of the desk and then two small blocks nailed above the desk to the stud to hold the desk in place. I've been using it for almost a year now and it's held up well. For what it does (provide a place for my keyboard, mouse, and odds and ends, the monitors are mounted on the wall) it's perfect and was so simple to make, just two pieces of plywood cut like an 'L' and some 1x3s between them so I have drawers. Thanks for the inspiration! I had to revisit your video today because now it's time to do my office closet and get everything now stored in boxes off the floor. Thanks for the simple shelves and hooks, that's exactly what I need! Your videos just keep on giving....
Hey Frank, Thank you so much for making this video such an inspiration. The overall foundation of this build is so satisfying to watch. Keep up the great work!
One of my favorite things to do is to watch your videos with my dad and talk about all the ways we can build similar things. You give us so many great ideas and it is a great way to bond with my father. Thanks for sharing!
I've got the french cleat bug. This is the best video that I've seen on the matter. I'm also searching for examples of high capacity french cleat systems for my garage. Love the video.
Very entertaining and motivating. I appreciate all the time that not only goes into the project but also the planning, setup, filming, and editing. Much obliged.
You got a new subscriber. I wish I had seen this before I finished my pantry. But I can always redo it in the future. I'm going to look around the house and find other places I can use this idea. Thank you. Great editing.
frank, I'm a huge fan of your video style, very very entertaining. I love woodworking videos but I suppose you could even be knitting or reading the newspaper and with your editing I would still enjoy watching it. Keep it up!
I hope my wife doesn't see this video. I've got to get this done before she adds it to my honey-do list. Brilliant idea for any storage area that has lots of wasted space. I did some math in my pantry and with this system, I can double my existing shelf space and make it easier to access canned foods.
Amazing. Takes me back to high school when I took shop with Mr. Davidson. Wood working is a great art to be in. Thanks for sharing and I hope you show us how you do your videos.
Frank, this video was great as always. The video editing was awesome, but what really struck me was how beautiful the system looked after completion. My wife wants me to do this with all of our closets now. Thanks a lot! LOL
I wish you posted this 6 months sooner, I just did my broom closet, and I already see the flaws in my shelving, as you said, its just not flexible! I love this, it is so nice, professional and simple!
Thanks for a great solution to so many problems with the broom closet. And I've got my mother hookef on your videos, she really likes the clamps. Take care, David
I've used this hanging system for bookcases and cupboards ever since I saw cabinet makers using it years ago. I never knew it was called French cleats. I love your idea of making a whole panel of them to make a modular system. I'll be sure to copy this one.
Great job Frank. :-) Presentation, explanation and workmanship are excellent as usual. I never would have thought of a french cleat system for a closet.
Another brilliant solution, as well as a fantastic video. Thank you, Frank. I really appreciate the hard work and extra effort that you put into your videos to make them entertaining as well as informative.
this video is a work of art..... love the way you presented this project. Excellent idea for a storage closet or pantry! think I'll do the same for ours. Thanks!
Thank you for the inspiration, Frank. This is exactly what I am looking for. I have a 48”x24” bedroom closet. I currently have the closet maid system. It works for now, but is not letting me take full advantage of the wall space.
Fantastic solution Frank. That really makes sense and is so customizable for the future, not being stuck in one configuration is the ultimate good design. I have a hall closet that has been overdue for an update but I had no good ideas, until now that is. Thanks Frank the solution to my storage problem is now at hand thanks to your brilliant design.
Nice touch on "spilling" the cleats out on the backer board! I'm glad you made a simple system as my wife wants this in our pantry now... Keep up the great work!
Outstanding video. We have traditional contractor-grade clothes closets with just a single pole running from end to end. This video gave me a lot of good ideas to make those spaces much more efficient and way better looking. Also, I'll be incorporating cedar into my design to keep things moth proof! Thanks again.
Wonderful video. The time it takes to make such a polished production. I love French Cleats. I have some pretty heavy things hanging off French Cleats. When I redo my kitchen, I want to hang the cupboards on French Cleats. Thanks for the great video.
Fantastic video. I am sold on the idea. Going to do something like this in my garage over the work bench. Thanks for the quite entertaining video as well.
Cut-the-wires..! Cut-the-wires..! Cut-the-wires..! Lets see what happens?!?! On a serious note... definitely going to utilize this system. Great idea. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
A brilliant solution with infinite possibilities Frank. A pleasure to watch once again.
Take care
Mike
Thanks Mike
As usual Mike's right on target with his comments. Brilliant
i watch a lot of DIY videos but this is the first time i was really entertained while watching, keep up the good work, Frank, you deserve a thumbs up and a click on the red button.
The production value is insane! This is a great closet system as well!
I expected to find great woodworking projects when I visited your channel & you delivered. The exceptional production value was a fortuitous surprise.
BillyJoe1305 Thanks!
BillyJoe1305 I
Frank, I found your channel and am now binge watching your creativity for admiration and ideas.
You are one clever guy and explain things very well.
+paul kelly Thanks
I'm still going through all your old videos. Great stuff- this is the type of thing my wife will see about 45 seconds of video and then ask, "Have you built mine yet?"
Pete Bachman I'm going to go ahead and keep this channel AWAY from my wife. 🤔😎
I remember watching this video eight years ago when it was first posted, and now that I'm coming back to it looking for ideas for my own home, it's bringing back lots of nostalgia. Thanks for making these videos, Frank.

Personally I think that is one of the greatest ideas. Not just stuck with one way of doing it but customizable to one's needs and likes. Great job.
Wonderful system and a very entertaining video Frank. : )
Thanks for posting April. Its a neat system.
Very workable system. I need to do something like this in a closet we have.
You always seem so calm and systematic... your videos suck you in and you watch them to the end. Thanks for the ideas.
That was a very clever solution. It's nice to see you let the kid learn a bit of the work too.
One of the best youtube "how-to" videos ever. Even your voiceover is pleasant. If there were youtube "Oscars" (and someday soon, there may be), this one would surely be nominated.

After seeing that I wish I had played that up more.
Seriously, this is genius !! Never though of using french cleats inside the house and not just in the shop !! Really inspiring !!
Thanks Frank, I showed the video to my wife and now she wants me to build this type of system for all of the storage closets when we build the new house. I really do mean thank you. She wants to help make the units and it will be great fun with my wife in the shop.

I think that was the most entertaining video on a woodworking project I have ever seen. Well done.
Excellent filmmaking. It did not only showcase the editing skill level, but also made it possible for the viewer's imagination to complete the visual and understand the inner workings of the process.
Me and my wife are buying our first house together and this is going to be my first project. This is an awesome idea. Thank you.
I watched this twice - once for the information and again to marvel at the high degree of professionalism of the presentation. Congratulations on a flawless job and beautiful craftsmanship.
Frank,
you're the only guy I know who can make a closet redesign interesting and fun. More power to ya!
Beautiful versatile system. I love the way you planned out all the possibilities too. You are a master. So much attention to detail and pride in your work. You always create art
Great conversion and top notch video production. It's always rewarding watching your videos Frank.
Your videos are amazing. I have been watching videos on French cleats and yours is so full of little tips it beats all the good ones, hands down. Thanks.
The stop motions make this video much more fun! It must take long time.
I really enjoy the little stop motion animations in your videos. They are funny, and really help compress some of the sequences.
once again an example of perfect and high-end woodworking
Awesome video and system, Frank. Unfortunately my wife saw it too. She gave me the "Why don't you do something like that" look.
Ha! I've ruined a lot of weekends haven't I :)
frank howarth heh heh heh
Jim Fancher I'll definitely be asking my husband for this lol
I LOVE BOTH THE CLEVER VIDEOS AND THE CLEVER PROJECTS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHAREING YOUR TIME AND SKILLS.

You are the MOST PRODUCTIVE woodworker I've ever seen.
Hey Frank, Thank you so much for making this video such an inspiration. The overall foundation of this build is so satisfying to watch. Keep up the great work!
Frank, you're amazing. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
Thanks for sharing the concept of "System not a form" - seems this idea can apply to the design of so many things, and kinds of things.
One of my favorite things to do is to watch your videos with my dad and talk about all the ways we can build similar things. You give us so many great ideas and it is a great way to bond with my father. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool idea. Have not seen this French storage system before, and I even cooked across France.
I've got the french cleat bug. This is the best video that I've seen on the matter. I'm also searching for examples of high capacity french cleat systems for my garage. Love the video.
Finally found a solution for a closet that has been in a terrible need of a redo. Great Videos!
Another excellent build. Thanks for making, Frank!
I love the distinction between a system and a rigid form. Great way of thinking about it. Thanks!
Frank this is really great. We have a similar closet, this is the best solution I've seen to tidy it up and utilize the space. Thank you!
Very entertaining and motivating. I appreciate all the time that not only goes into the project but also the planning, setup, filming, and editing. Much obliged.
I love the hook system. Single hook per cleat, to allow for all kinds of adjustments. Very clever.
You got a new subscriber. I wish I had seen this before I finished my pantry. But I can always redo it in the future. I'm going to look around the house and find other places I can use this idea. Thank you. Great editing.

Amazing level of planning goes into these videos.

Thoroughly enjoyed that Frank, as I do all your posts.
Thanks for sharing, look forward to the next edition
Cheers
Dave

I love the added touches of animation...that's a lot of work.
Love the little edits you do, you really put time in to your videos and not just get something up half ass

A brilliant video of a brilliant system from a brilliant creative mind. Too cool Frank.
Looks like a great system! It's really visually appealing.
Cut-the-wires..! Cut-the-wires..! Cut-the-wires..! Lets see what happens?!?!
On a serious note... definitely going to utilize this system. Great idea. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
Great ideas and execution. Always look forward to your videos.
Just awesome as always, Frank! incredible!!
That's the best I've seen, so elegant looking, so functional. I'm impressed.
wow, an amazing example of how a french cleat system could transform a useless space to exactly what you need. :-) thanks for sharing
