My HDL cholesterol was 45 at age 22. I'm 60 and it's still 45, pretty much straightline for almost four decades.
LDL and triglycerides have been all over the place, especially triglycerides. What has helped them most is fish oil and not consuming alcohol. They went from 295 to 155 in just a few months of teetotaling and taking one fish oil capsule before bed.

I learned about pasture raised eggs from Dr Berg and have been eating 3 to 5 of them every day for the last three years. My HDL use to hover around 35 to 40, After eating a more healthy fat diet including eggs , avocado, and salmon, I got my blood work done. My total cholesterol was 234 but my HDL had risen to 78 . Great programme as always, thx Doc. Now i had a high total cholesterol according to my Doc in my mid 30s. It was sitting at 5.8 here in the uk. I was told i needed to bring it down to a healthier level of 5 and below. So after a little research i chose eating aples and organic oats almost daily and increased my intake of avocadoes and cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. I also cut down on my butter muffins and pancakes. I am of a healthier weight of 63kg, 173 cms with somewhat okish diet. I had my tests retaken a year later and to my surprise the total number went from 5.8 down to 4.6. I did not go through anything extreeme. Now, 5 years later or so i am sitting at 5.2 with my HDL being 1.99. I just live my avocadoes and olive oil and i take it on empty stomach sometimes first thing in the morning. I also like my eggs. Anyhow, this worked for me.

You probably have to gradually build up your intake of niacin (in the form of nicotinic acid) to about 1000 - 2000 mg/day to achieve a substantial increase in HDL. I've done it. But the problem with niacin (besides the skin flushing, which is harmless but bothersome) is that you will possibly see a rise in blood sugar (i.e. higher HbA1c) and a rise in Homocysteine, which you don't want. If you can wrap your head around the idea that the consumption of fat, including saturated fat, is AOK, then indulge in that and your HDL will increase. Just be sure you are limiting your carb intake significantly as well.

A niacin flush is a common visible reaction to high doses of niacin (over 50mg). It can look and feel somewhat like a sunburn, but it typically begins 15 to 30 minutes after taking niacin and only lasts for about an hour. The flush is considered harmless, but it can be uncomfortable. Also, I found out 1st-hand caffeine will amplify the flush affect. YMMV

The best thing about the change to Keto, is that it's not dieting. It's a change in diet. No tortuous calorie counting, expensive meal plans, and toxic, (fake healthy) beverages loaded with sugar, or artificial sweeteners, or mixes from the bogus diet companies.
I've lost 26lbs. in two months. The plantar fasciitis that I've fought for about 5 years is completely gone, along with the daily dose of Meloxicam. And two belt nothces moved in the right direction.
    Thank you Doctor.

I was wondering what you were going to say, because I’ve been taking Niacin, thanks to my functional medicine doctor. So I’m happy to hear you say Niacin. Yes, my HDL has gone up and my ratio is now in the healthy range, although my total cholesterol hasn’t dropped much. I’ve also been intermittent fasting about 5 days per week (14-16 hours). My CT score went from 8 to 28 in 5 years. Now I need to focus on longer fasts and a more heart-healthy eating, to reduce the atherosclerosis. I wonder what my CT would’ve been, had I not been taking Niacin, baby aspirin and intermittent fasting. Thank you for all you do.

That was a very informative video. I would be interested, however, in a video that discusses whether a person's HDL can be too high. For most of my adult life, my HDL has been at least 80 and often over 100. For example, my last three test results were 106. 114 and 111. I have tried to research what such high levels might indicate, but I have not really found anything meaningful. Perhaps this is too uncommon to justify its own video, but maybe there are other people out there with the same concern. Thank you for all the great health information!
