I have a Savage 110 22" 6mm ARC in a MDT LSS-XL chassis with Athlon Midas TAC 6-24. My load is 29.1gr StaBALL Match with Berger 105gr VLD Rem 7½ primer resized Lapua 6.5 grendel brass. Nine 5 shot groups and three 10 shot groups have yielded between 0.262 - 0.631" groups. I know some guys would change the barrel, but i am a Joe not a Pro. I am quite happy with the rifle and the loads performance. Average velocity is 2748fps ES: 11 SD: 4.4
Excited to see another 6ARC bolt gun out there. I have been loving mine! I was about to suggest the 107SMK but you have already found them. Varget has been my go to powder for target/comp, it is a little slow but I cannot beat the accuracy and consistency. My whitetail load is the 80gr TTSX bullet with CFE223. I find CFE223 works well with some of the lighter bullets. Plus im getting about 3100fps... Cant wait to see what you come up with.
Hey Gavin, been shooting my 6 arc bolt gun for about a year now. It is my favorite go to. I shoot Berger 108s with Accurate 2520 using resized Lapua 6.5 Grendel cases. Its based on a Big Horn action with a Proof barrel. Amazing accuracy with this setup, shooting bug holes is a blast. I am sure you will love yours when your done.
Hey Gavin, I bought a Howa mini barreled action in 6mm ARC with the 20" target profile barrel and put it in a Stocky VG2 carbon fiber stock. The goal was a light weight hunting rifle but I haven't weighed it yet (it's very light weight). I haven't been able to shoot it yet due to work and weather but I finally got my hands on some Hornady 108 ELD-M's get do initial break in and then transition over to loading something a little lighter and the 108 pills. I will be very interested to see your upcoming video on load development. Love the work you're doing with your custom line ups and appreciate all the work you put into producing your content!
Yes, I know there is a difference! I did start with data off my gas gun & finally ended up with a great groups. The best of a 5 shot group of .27 moa @ 100 yds. Its not the fastest load but accurate. My faster node was just starting to have pressure signs. Can't wait to stitch it out farther but have to wait until the hay is made!!
Me drooling over that precision build 🤤. I have a 6 ARC build on an M4 pattern that shoots .84 MOA but nothing like Gavin’s Tack driver. Wow, what a great stock system too.
I have a 6-ARC i built on a Savage 110 action. I used a Shaw stainless barrel 1:7 twist. I used the factory wood stock which i opened up the barrel channel. Factory trigger i tuned down, (old school trigger no accutrigger). Vortex diamondback tactical 4-12x40 scope. I am done with barrel break in, which produced a 3 shot group of .513 @ 100yds. I used Hornady 108gr match ammo i got off the shelf. I have not started the reload process, but so far i like the performance i am getting.
Gavin cheers and thank you for the video i truly enjoy the information. I have a challenge for you. I am one that can’t afford the high end lathes and ultra precision equipment. Could you do a video on reaming/chambering a barrel on a budget lathe or in a cheaper manner. I understand I could have it sent out and done but what’s the fun in that! Think of budget lathe with cheapest tools and gages needed to make it happen. Keep the videos coming!
Great build. I have thought about getting more bolt rifles. I have a 6 ARC AR platform that I have been working up. I am still in break in mode. I did however shoot 3 shots through the same hole at 25 yards getting an idea of what I needed to change on the scope mount. The bolt/barrel had tolerance stack up issues that required manual racking between rounds, making the 3 bullets in one hole all the more intriguing. I can't wait to get it broke in and the new scope rail installed.
I recently got a used Uintah Precision 6mm ARC upper with a 22 inch barrel. Gonna take it out tomorrow to see how it shoots. The plan is build out an AR lower with precision stock and then build out the matching upper with either a 16 or 18 inch barrel, also in 6ARC
Ruger american gen 2 mdt field stock 26" shilen barrel in a heavy palma contour with a 20oz jard trigger. Shoots amazing. 29.9g of leverevolution with a 105gr berger vld hunter bullet and it a .3" rifle all day. Shot several 3 shot groups under .1" its a stud for sure.
I went with the Howa 1500 barreled action in 6mm ARC and a Boyd's stock. Need to get a scope on it and go see how it performs. I have to empty the factory cartridges before I can start any load development.
I built my daughter a 6mm arc , starting with the savage axis 2 , put it in a oryx chassis , added a 24” shilen stainless match 1.75 varmint barrel . With hornady precision 103g a 1.5 group at 600yds . Started load development the 27.1 imr8208 with 107 sierra bthp gave me a group of .23 with a sd of 1 and es of 2 . Had the magneto speed on it so group may get better without
I built my timbr chassis in 6ppc using a Kelbly tactical action, kreiger heavy varmint barrel with a no turn neck .274, using mdt 6arc magazine, 20:0620:06
Nice build. Looking to do something very similar with this chassis, except with a Tikka action and 6 GT for the chambering. ARC in a bolt gun makes no sense to me, but to each their own. Great informative video as always!
Very nice build and great to see the 6 ARC bolt gun getting some attention I have been shooting my 6 ARC bolt gun for 2 years I have at least 3000 rounds down the pipe and it is a great shooting rifle Mine loves the Berger 105 VLD Hunting bullets with LEVR powder
A couple more years before I ever pull the trigger on something like that hesitant when something brand-new comes out I don't buy it right away I let it be for a couple years then I think it is a very interesting cartridge for younger smaller shooters and introducing them into the shooting.
I have the 6mm Arc in an AR platform with a compact barrel. I could also see it making sense in a micro action like a CZ527 or Ruger Ranch. I don’t personally understand it in a heavy, long barreled precision bolt gun since you really aren’t limited to cartridge size and gun weight. To me the 6mm Arc fits in as a great do it all cartridge that works in compact guns that were made for the 5.56 sized cartridge. Once you leave that niche it seems like using a different cartridge would make sense. But the more the merrier! Get more loadings out there!
Had to stab the pause button when you said you have a 6 ARC AR and plan on getting another one, isn't your state in the process of banning AR-style rifles? If so, relocate over here to Idaho. No such restrictions here.
I have a 26” X-Caliber 5r barrel on a Savage action and MDT ACC chassis so I could DIY. 2800+ fps with a Hornady 108 and CFE223 not even maxed out. Unfortunately Hornady isn’t shipping brass so that project is shelved. I have converted 6.5G and 7.62x39 brass to keep it inching along. For a lightweight varmint bullet the 70gr TNT stacks them on top of each other.
I currently do not own a 6mm arc bolt rifle but its on the list ! I'm thinking a rugar gen 2 standard ! I've had great luck with my Rugar gen 1 standard 308 shooting 168 grain S match king bullets, very accurate plus zero feeding problems ! Apparently savage 110 actions have some problems ejecting and feeding ??? Anyway, I only hunt deer and 90% of shots are well under 200yds ! Deer size is 80 lb to 200 for a large buck ( field dressed weight) i need-a very low recoiling rifle and I'm interested in shooting to 500 yds at the range ! Should perform well given these parameters !
Great video and helpful information. I’m also building a 6mm ARC on a Bighorn action, Shilen barrel and MDT XRS chassis. Just waiting for all of the parts to come in.
Awesome build 👍 I was considering buying one of those scopes for my current build. Are they decent for the price point? I'd really like a Nightforce or Zero Compromise but they're exponentially more.
I just built a competition 6ARC rifle. I was breaking in my Preferred Barrel 6 ARC Match chambered barrel in 1:7.5. If I could share some photos and some of the result of my break in barrel load, let me know.
As someone who is starting to plan a 6mm Arc bolt gun. I'm considering barrel lengths. It would be nice to know more of your findings on reloading for this chamber. Chambering this so it would somewhat match my AR chamber had not even dawned on me until you mentioned it. Interesting concept and I will be chatting with my gunsmith about it. Otherwise we are looking at a custom action as well as putting on and MDT XRS, so the magazines are an interesting thought to me. I do plan on reloading for it, and have StaBall Match, Varget, SW Precision, as well as all the other usual 6 Arc powders on hand that I have used in my gas gun. I am also planning on finally breaking out the 150pcs of factory brass I have had since 2020. I do have some 108 gr ELDMs on hand, 105 gr HPBT, and plenty of 90 and 103 gr ELDx projectiles to play with, but now that Sierra is finally becoming available in my area again, I will be looking into getting some of the 107 as well as the Barnes Match Burners. Good luck on the build but I would be really intersted in the velocities you are obtaining, powder burn ratios with the longer barrel, and the magazines reliability in the 6 Arc bolt gun with a MDT chassis holding the action.
Nice build! The MDT 6 ARC specific mags will have it feeding flawlessly. I'm really enjoying your channel and looking forward to more videos on the 6mm ARC. How about a load development video using ball powders loaded on a progressive press? Maybe even a comparison between brass with large rifle primers (7.62 x 39mm) versus small rifle primers, since most of us are hand loading on brass that we have formed.
17:42 Great video, love the build, what was the average muzzle velocity for the Hornady ELDM you used for the break in? Was it at least 2600? I want to build an ultralight bolt 6ARC , purely running factory ammo, no reloading, probably starting with Howa 1500 mini. I just don’t know what super lite barrels profile and weights are out there that would be good if the howa barrel is no good. I want at least 2600mv so I feel I’ll have to maintain a few more inches on barrel length, perhaps 22-24”.
@@Ultimatereloader No worries. I did see later in the video you caught it when you said 1.885. Sweet build BTW. Been looking for a Howa mini action in 6ARC, no luck for now lol
The 6arc is almost identical to Robert Whitley's 6mm AR cartridge that is 6.5 Grendel brass necked down to 6mm and it shoots awesome. I have never shot the 6arc but I bet it shoots great
I am shooting 6 ARC, but in an AR. I am using the Hornady match ammo, but have started to reload for it. Am using VARGET, but looks like the powder you are using will also work. Liked the video.
Thank you. I really like your build videos. Are you planning to do a video on your through bore flush system. I'd be really interested in seeing how you built yours.
I have a 6mm arc bolt gun, it is a savage axis 2 22' heavy barrel gun, I have only shot Hornady factory ammo, 108 ELD match, 103 ELD-X, AND 105 BTHP. I can't find reloading brass anywhere. Gun shoots good with factory ammo, I did change factory stock out with Boyd's ATONE thumb hole stock. I am going to buy Magpul lite hunter when they release it at the end of the year.
Great looking rifle. I have a 6 arc on a TL-3 action 24" proof barrel. This rifle is likening the berger 108 elite hunter over varget. It is more consistent for me when compared to lever or cfe223. I have also tried the 108 eldm and 105 vld target. I am also using the mdt 6arc magazines in the mdt acc chassis with no issues
Gavin, I'm just starting a bolt 6mm arc & hope it will compare with my CMMG. With my cmmg, I have had groups around +\- 3" @ 600 yds & hope the bolt gun will be a little better. I got a howa mini action with a 22" barrel with a Boyd's stock & an Athlon Ares scope. Haven't finish putting it all together yet. The load I use in the cmmg was 112 gr. Barnes & Leverevolution. Also tried 115 gr. Berger, they shot pretty good too. Just got some 115 gr. Nosler that I haven't tried yet. I'm hoping I can tune off the load I have for the bolt gun!
The pressure difference between the gass gun ammo and what can be ran in a bolt gun are night and day in performance. Unless you are comparing just the low pressure gas gun ammo then a comparison isn't worth it
Question. Why isn't you rear ring further back. Also I often put my ring knobs on the left away from the port. I have 2 6arcs. Rem xp100 15inch 13 twist. It works great with 58 gr vmax. My savage is for rifle silhouette. I hope to try 110 atips for the rams. Love your channel.
I'm very keen to have a 6mm ARC in a stainless Howa Mini Action. I'm in Australia and there is nothing factory coming here soon, so I'm looking to buy a Howa Stainless Mini action in 7.62x39 or 6.5 Grendel and do a switch barrel setup. I like the CTR style short bolt throw concept chambered in a versatile cartridge like 6ARC.
I actually want a 6mm sending 80gr with a muzzle velocity of 3200 and can also send the 103gr ELDX or similar at 2900fps for that solid extra performance over 223 . Can the 6ARC do it from a bolt gun easily? I don’t want 6creed or 243Win. Plus I don’t know of any other 6mm (there’s so many different cartridges) that actually has factory loads available. I hope 6 arc can achieve those numbers easily, or close to it.
Is the action a mini or a short? If its a short...whats making it work considering the round is for a mini action I want to build one but im not sure where to start other than this beautiful stock
Love the idea of 6ARC bolt action. How about a side by side comparison between the 6ARC vs 6Creed vs 6GT vs 6 Dasher vs .243win. Think of it as a old school versus wildcat versus modern cartridges.
Thats awesome work i need a custom shop to cut my barrel down i have AEA 58cal zeus air rifle they dont make smaller barrels for it would need it threaded for a muzzle break also the barel is 32inches long cut it to 24
Im trying to build one now and can't decide on a barrel length, between 22, 24, 26. It will be my first bolt action rifle and i kind of want it to fall between PRS and hunting based on weight. I do want to suppress it as well. Chasis will be a Woox Furiosa Ultra, TT diamond trigger and the new ARC Coup de Grace action. Scope at first will be the primary arms plx 6-30 Athena (i already own it and it has no home). Can you make a suggestion
On your headspace gages, wouldn't a grendal gage be the same? After all the arc is basically a necked down grendal, at least it looks to be. I don't know just asking. I've been looking at the arc but been holding out till the bugs get worked out and see what other reloaders are testing. I know you did a Grendel awhile back so im sure you already have those.
As I'm nearing having a dasher built for PRS the possibilities for ARC experimentation are opening up for me. A friend wants to by my aero precision ARC upper so I'll sell that to him (plus some extras) for a very fair price BUT I'm eyeing the Unitah Precision 6 ARC bolt upper. I've been wanting a bolt ARC and figure this is a very interesting route to consider. Already have a fantastic lower (Silencer Co), mags, etc, why not just go a bolt upper? Plus I have another gas upper that matches the lower so I'm considering a Craddock barrel for that. I might be getting away from gas gun for PRS but I'm not getting away from ARC. It's a fantastic cartridge. (I use vihtavouri powders in mine. N150 and experimenting with N540 right now. I love the clean burn and temp stability of VV.)
What velocity did you see on the 8208? Planning to start with Lever Revolution when we reload. Shooting factory really well now. Thinking about running the Cutting Edge 90gr MTAC.
So I'd like to do something similar in 6.5 grendel how do you determine optimal barrel length to get the most speed before it starts being detrimental.
What velocity were you getting from the Hornady factory 108 ELDs in the 24" barrel? I am putting together a 26" and wondering where it might be around. Thanks.
I’ve been shooting 6arc with lever revolution and 107 smk and it crushes hogs I run it a bit light with lvr and get 2450 FPS out of 16” barrel (its an ar) On the Texas predator hunting podcast they got a 14.5” 6 arc going 2500 with the 105 bthp and absolutely slay coyotes
You may have a typo on your slide with the brass sizing on it. The brass itself says 1.1885 and your slide has 1.885 the same error you made while speaking.
I have a little crush on 6ARC, I'm kinda flirting with it. What do ya think of a 12.5" bolt-action sbr on a howa mini? Maybe with a bartlein #3 in 1:7.
This is pushing me to want to build a 6ARC even more, and I really want to do it on the TIMBR charcoal chassis (personal preference). Either that or build an ARA 22 on this chassis with a RIMX action. You did a beautiful build on it, and I am curious about how the Cronus scope is working for you. One thing that gets glanced over so much is quality of the glass, and would love to see a series on pros and cons of different glass, why you like certain things, clarity for the money, and other features should they be available. Again, as always, awesome job and thanks for this.
Puh this MDT Chassis Prices are insane here in Europe 1200€ for this Stock i think i go with a GRS Fenris or Bifrost for my next Rifle the Fenris is about 440€ the Bifrost about 650 .... would love if Tikka or Bergara would offer 6Arc Chamberings a Tikka T3X CTR with a GRS Bifrost would be a dream of mine

I’m wanting the AR bolt action 6mm Arc because of the folding stock and light weight. Definitely a light versatile round for deer size game.

"Sized Brass" on the specs slide shows 1.8850. Believe that should be 1.1885
That is correct! Apologies :)
I have never shot the 6arc but I bet it shoots great
It's a cool little cartridge!
I want to build the same thing. Love the stock.
Got my attention 😉 95gr Bergers has been my go to until 105gr Hybrids get back in stock.
Velocity? Considering a similar build.
@@timothyletkeman just over 2,800 fps
My first time "building" a bolt gun. Can I drop a Savage 110 TACTICAL 6mm arc action and barrel into this stock?
Buy the MDT 6ARC AICS magazines
This 👆🏼
Is the action a mini or a short? If its a short...whats making it work considering the round is for a mini action
I want to build one but im not sure where to start other than this beautiful stock
Love the idea of 6ARC bolt action. How about a side by side comparison between the 6ARC vs 6Creed vs 6GT vs 6 Dasher vs .243win. Think of it as a old school versus wildcat versus modern cartridges.
Darn a nice build. Do you recon that the Timbr would do as a PRS rig?. I am not a dog after the alu chassis, I'm more into the stock solution.
Did you put a typo in with the fired/sized/new brass dimensions? 1.1800" to 1.8850" would result in head separation?
What a beauty!
Thats awesome work i need a custom shop to cut my barrel down i have AEA 58cal zeus air rifle they dont make smaller barrels for it would need it threaded for a muzzle break also the barel is 32inches long cut it to 24
Please do an approx 12-13” bbl for 16”oal. Build on an ar15.
DETAILS ON YOUR REAR BAG AND SLAB MOUNT ON THE FOREND FOR THE REST
That’s awesome!!
I've looked at Bill Marr's barrel cut-down tests on rifleshooter.com quite a bit for these insights!
Thats a good looking stock. I would like one made with beechwood myself. Too bad they don't offer it.
What velocity were you getting from the Hornady factory 108 ELDs in the 24" barrel? I am putting together a 26" and wondering where it might be around. Thanks.
So, it seems like someone is able to source new 6 ARC brass. Who do I need to please to get myself some?
I have a 270 Winchester I want to build into something new. Do you know if that bolt face would work or do I need to swap it out?
I’ve been shooting 6arc with lever revolution and 107 smk and it crushes hogs I run it a bit light with lvr and get 2450 FPS out of 16” barrel (its an ar) On the Texas predator hunting podcast they got a 14.5” 6 arc going 2500 with the 105 bthp and absolutely slay coyotes
Would love to see Hornady flood the market with brass.
What velocities were you getting? I have the Savage 110 Switchback in ARC. Shoots lights out by the Savage actions are such junk.
Is 6 arc back? I sure hope so
Nice rifle. try some reloads with Power Pro Varmint. You may be pleasantly surprised
Thanks! Good suggestion!
Will you see how fast you can push a Barnes vg out of bolt gun?
You may have a typo on your slide with the brass sizing on it. The brass itself says 1.1885 and your slide has 1.885 the same error you made while speaking.
Dam that's a sexy stock
Thanks- it looks even better in real life!
Mrs. Toobe must be a very understanding woman; did you see the price of that stock?
Bolt face diameter? Did you swap bolt heads? Or new bolt?
Hi Gavin , have you ever experimented with .221 fireball or 6x45 on an AR platform or bolt-action ?
Yeah I’ll buy that build as is, build another one 😅 I want one.
Beautiful rifle 👍
Beautiful 🔥
Wow great video lots of info thanks
I really like the 3d printed collars. What filament material would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
PETG!
Do you recall what arca rail you used in this build?
Puh this MDT Chassis Prices are insane here in Europe 1200€ for this Stock i think i go with a GRS Fenris or Bifrost for my next Rifle the Fenris is about 440€ the Bifrost about 650 .... would love if Tikka or Bergara would offer 6Arc Chamberings a Tikka T3X CTR with a GRS Bifrost would be a dream of mine
I've been in the market for a Tikka stock.
A 24in barrel loading 95gr sst with 31.5gr of Lever revolution will put you over 2900fps and groups under .55 of a inch.
MDT has 6 ARC magazines.
Hi Gavin, when are you going to build the ELR 375 Chytac
Hi there! I'm waiting on some things including a bolt for the Bat EX! I'll post updates when I have any!
Is that actually wood
I wish MDT would build a reasonably price stock that was hunt friendly. My 6ARC is in a MDT XRS. Would love to have the stability in a lighter weight.
The MDT Oryx is very hunter friendly
@@bobbybell36 it is still too heavy for more than blind use.
@@texpatriot8462 Have you used one? I personally use it for long hunts since it is only 4 lbs. It's very light.
