Guys, at 0:30 I say "moles solute per liter of solvent", but it's per liter of solution! What a dumb mistake on my part, but it's an important definition to get right so please take note.
It's ok😄
Thank you for letting us know.
PROFESOR DAVE GROHL
you also need to better explain how you got .5 as your asnwer from (1.0M)(1.0L)= M2(2.0)
@@Hockeyjody I'm a bit late, but it's supposed to be an equation from the algebra class.
I love the quiz music. They should play that during finals
yes
Thank you for making this so concise, while also making it clear! Helped me a lot with my classwork. :)
you just helped me pass my exam basically. you magnificent man.
Short, to the point, incredible explanation. THANK YOU!
you have helped me big time ..i appreciate
I try to be serious and focus but the face at 0:08 fucking kills me lmfao
your channel gonna be the best😍❤️
Holy hell I couldn't remember this simple equation for the life of me trying to figure out a concentration problem. Clutch. Thank you!
Thanks prof.
Great
thank you professor dave 👑👑
thank you profesor Dave 👑
You go Dave!
What about Precipitate kind of elements, its that count in this term as well?
Anyway thank you
Prof. Dave💎
I got the answers right. Thanks professor
Thanx prof. Dave
Thankyou professor dave
cool video...super helpful .... what animation software do you use?
adobe after effects!
what calculations did u have to do to get 0.600L of water? great video btw
Is proportional dilution same as stock dilution ?
It is 4am, i got a chemistry quiz this morning, and I'm trying my very best to sort this in my brain 😭
1:21 does that mean that even after adding more solvent volume of solute remains constant?
I would say YES. Because the volume of solute only increases by adding more solute. Now it is the CONCENTRATION of that solute the one that changes if the volume of solvent is altered. This because the concentration is a "ratio" between the solute AND the solvent.
@@gabriels2395 thank you
The most underrated teacher ever
Hi just gonna ask if you are converting mL to Liters you should divide it by 1000 right? should it be 0.2L or 0.200L? the answer will be different but only in decimal places.
yep that's right. number of decimal places will depend on the number of sig figs present.
Great videos! Just a quick question. For the sample problem, when I calculate the molar mass of Ca(OH)2 I get 92.1 not 74.1. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
i'm not sure! it's just Ca + 2O + 2H
you can just google the molar mass as well. im not sure what you are doing wrong but The molar mass of calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2 , is 74.092 g/mol rounded up to 74.1. You take the molar mass of CA and then oxygen and hydrogen. Since there is a 2 around (OH) you need to double both oxygen and hydrogen so its 40.078+ 16+16 + 1.008 +1.008 totaling around 74.1
Thanks..
First of all, thanks for the great videos.
I just have a quick question. Are you supposed to add the mass of the solute to the solvent to get the total mass of the solution? I don't know this for certain, and want to make sure I am doing the right calculations. Thanks in advance.
*Edit* Mean't volume, not mass.
well here mass doesn't come into play, as molarity is moles solute per liter solution. but there could be other applications where mass is relevant.
So the volume of the solution is the same with or without the solute inside? That's what I meant.
I confused mass and volume. Sorry.
oh, yes! i know it seems weird but solute will fit into the spots between the solvent particles and won't impact the overall volume, so if adding a solid solute, we don't have to factor that into the total volume. of course if combining liquids, we do add the volumes.
Excellent! Thank you so much again!
Love the Elevator music
Can someone explain the intuition behind why dilution can be represented with the M1*V1 = M2*V2 equation? I don't want to just blindly use the formula - would like to know why it works.
Is there a way to do these dilution problems with dimensional analysis?
well concentration and volume are inversely proportional, if you double the volume of solvent, the concentration will necessarily be cut in half
@@ProfessorDaveExplains Super fast reply, thanks!
Where did the 74.1g come from?
thank you professor dave👑

Thankyou professor Dave
has anyone pointed out that molarity is moles of solute per liter of SOLUTION? just wondering
Molarity = moles of solute per liter SOLUTION, not solvent. I like your videos and the way you explain, but can't use it w/my students as they'll be confused :(
there's an annotation in place that makes the correction
Good
Sir you explain very well and reply to all the questions. I asked 3 questions through comment and you replied to all of them after 1 or 2 hours. You are superb
i do my best! please tell all your friends to subscribe!
Yes sir, sure
thx!:)
A bit confused in re to dilution - how do you get the value of M2?
it's all just algebra, plug in what you have and solve for what you need
@@ProfessorDaveExplains woah! lightening response time - thank you so much!
U need to remake the video with that correction or insert the caption in the video. The description notes isn't enough
Well that sounds lovely, except that it's not possible.
How did you get 74.1 g? in the comprehension portion of the video?
molar mass of calcium hydroxide
from the periodic table
Ohh and love the hair and beard. Nice job.👍
The solubility of calcium hydroxide is really low so I think the question at the end is not feasible at all Professor Dave
limewater?
Prof Dave you are wrong it is per liter of the solution and not per liter of the solvent in case of molarity
Dave, the thumbnail of this one has you with your mouth open :-)
best fkin teacher ever... my respects to you mannn woooow , God bless you!
I just learned 2 months worth of chemistry in 2 minutes
Chemistry looks pretty cool
It’s extremely hard though
Tråp Jäw Gùłçh it’s not that hard. I actually wish I could take more courses. I am taking dosage calculations for nursing and I am struggling. That class is mostly chemistry and math. I feel I am smart person, but the class is two days a week and the teacher seems she expects us to understand what is going on. In my opinion, she is sort of neglectful when I ask her questions. I feel I need to open up my mind more about chemistry.
Why we call solution in molarity instead of solvent ????
Quick
What is the question?
solvent is part of the reaction. Molarity is literally the answer it is also called the solution.
