  • We know how to express solution concentration in terms of molarity and molality, but the common public also needs to communicate concentration for certain reasons, and they don't really know about moles and things like that. What do they use? Mass percent!

    What a coincidence! I have an exam on the same topics, like mass percent, molarity, molality, normality tomorrow.
    Thanks professor Dave!

    Got a video showing how you can convert between the types of concentrations? Converting between Molarity, Molality, Percent by Mass, Percent by Volume? I just wanna look at a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and know its molar concentration.

    4:00 regarding 10%aq NaOH. I always prepare it by dissolving 10grams in 100cc H2O not as mentioned by dissolving 10grams in 90grams (90ml) of water

    Professor, why we don't have volume/mass percentage concentration term? Plz reply professor..i searched many books but they haven't addressed this doubt

    • @spiritbond8
      @spiritbond8 Год назад +1

      A volume PER mass? Do you see how that makes no sence whatsoever? A solute has no volume of its own. It may impact the solvent's volume either way i.e. the solution can have greater or lower volume than the solvent on its own.
      Or measure the volume of a solid solvent before dissolving? There is a reason we never measure amounts of solids in terms of volume... it gives us extremely crappy information about the amount.
      Or you may be thinking in terms of liquid in liquid solution. But why measure volume against MASS in this case? Especially in miscible sölutions like alchohol in warter, volume per volume just makes sense.
