  • Here’s a quick recap of a recent hunt in northern NH. I tracked another buck for about 4 hours, just as I was catching up to him he walked by this buck bedded, unlucky for him and a great buck to tag with just a few days of hunting left!

Deer don't have the stamina to keep running if you push them in the snow. If YOU have the stamina to stay on them they almost always will give you a shot. The Indians hunted deer this way very effectively. It's a young guys game though.

Mine went 182.5 lbs. ..8 point . No snow here , not really . Nothing trackable ....Just hard all day hunting , sun up to sun down . Shot him at last light ,,,draggin in the dark

Without snow I’m severely handicapped, I can’t sit and the deer density is so low that hiking around on bare ground is not very productive for me.

@nickcampagna7280 Yah , I don't sit much either . I still hunt . Kinda have to with so few hunters in the woods where I am ... nobody pushing anything ....I actually prefer it anyway . I'll sit for a bit if I'm in a place that "feels" like deer , but that's usually only for an hour or less ,,rare exceptions . We have ok/decent deer densities around here , but they have a lot of territory to play in also . Snow is a definite game changer ....

Congrats Nick, nice buck. I had another buck cross paths with me while I was tracking a mediocre buck in a snow storm in NH. Autopilot kind of took over, lets just say he was way smaller than the one you crossed paths with.
I've got my 10yr old son tagging along with me nowadays. I've told him that persistence will kill way more deer than any gadget out there, hands down. You just need to dig deep some days.

Exactly! You can take all that fancy stuff you see in magazines and TV and throw it in the trash. Even spending time in the woods isn’t good enough if you don’t pay attention! It’s all about learning the deer and the woods every time you go out, it all adds up in the end! Good luck out there with your boy, he will remember it all someday!
