I don’t think you should be doing bag reviews... no offense... you need to be consulting with every bag manufacturer and helping them design their bags! Thank you, I don’t think the designers realize half the things you point out... hats off to you
doth savek Awesome, can’t wait to see them. It’s funny, I watched this video before getting my Octothorpe last year. I didn’t fully appreciate the depth of features and functionality that you discussed. Re-watching it now after using the bag for 250+ rounds, I have strong opinions on every aspect you discussed, even the pencil pocket. I also noticed that my version of the bag (Huktothorpe) has a couple small tweaks in layout and features compared to yours...1 for the better, 1 for the worse.
@@TForrest13 What are the 2 differences with the Huktothorpe? After my bag I know they change the umbrella slot. I have a Octohaul coming in a few weeks so I should be able to see the changes on that one.
doth savek Umbrella slot is #1. #2 The plastic utility hook is now a part of each strap, not attached to the sewing between the top and side compartments. #3 it also looks like the four loops holding the bungee for the stool are not spaced as far apart. This is actually significant, as them being closer together allows the stool to flop around a bit more. The points of contact are not wide enough. I may go back and watch again to see if I notice anything else. I’ll reply here if I find anything.
So I just started Disc Golf a few months ago. I love this sport. I'm still rocking a Kestrel 8 disc canvas bag, but my disc collection is growing by the week, and at some point this winter I'm going to need to go to a backpack style bag. While I'm nowhere near the point of needing a bag of this caliber, I could watch this dude review bags all damn day. Well done Doth, have my subscription.
The time and commitment you put into reviewing bags is amazing. I just recently ordered an Octothorpe after using the Grip CS for the past year and a half. I love the grip bag but always had my eye on the Pound bags. Awesome review and I appreciate the detail you put into showing all of the bag. Thanks for the hard work!
Before finding your channel I had no idea these bags existed… just bought the revolution mini for myself after watching your review on it and maybe someday when I play a tournament or two I’ll flex and get myself a custom pound bag lol. Much love.
Thanks for making all sorts of videos about bags. A lot of stuff gets pointed out you can't see from just looking at pics and "unboxings" online. Got the recent Sexton Octothorpe without the logo. To anyone reading this: Yes, it is worth every penny. And yes, it's a lot of pennies. I carry 6-8 more discs and more water with this than my OG Simian and it still feels better.
I have never carried or needed a pencil while disc golfing. I ESPECIALLY have not pocketed a pencil WITHOUT an eraser!!!! "Well, this bag does not have space for 100 eraser-less pencils, therefore I HATE IT!!!!!!"... I make jokes against this review, but he did do a great job overall. BUT PLEASE do not take the pencil comments too seriously. The quality, performance, and integrity are the important part of the review!"
couple of thing i have come do wit my pound bag. as far as a pencil goes i always carry a small clipboard in one of the tall side pockets and ride it with my putters when in use. i keep the pencil clipped to that. The water bottle divider is definitely not meant for a 12oz can it is tall so that it can maximize the coverage on a 32 oz nalgene or hydroflask. if you aren't going to use it however, it gives you another option for divided valuables storage. on the other side pocket maybe stick a couple drivers in there and move your mids to the main pouch. the beveled edge shouldn't catch on the zipper as much. Overall great review. i love seeing others using the octothorpe i think it is such a fantastic product but because of price point you see alot more grip bags on the course.
I’ve been rocking a Grip BX for the past year or so and was stuck deciding between the Octothorpe and Carlton. I carry 19 in my BX but I could easily carry 14 if my BX didn’t rattle. It was your review that pushed me toward the Octo because it can hold a few or many just as well. You can own one bag that’ll do the job of two, only downside is it costs the same as the two... my Octo is now on order, thanks for the nit picks and reviews. Please, when you find time, keep ‘em coming.
This is what I love about the pound bag. It’s not a suitcase with shoulder straps. It’s a backpack. And it’s just the best looking disc golf bag as well.
Thank you! I think Pound is likely not interested in doing anything but trying to increase the current production. Maybe some day I will reach out to them.
Great review and very helpful for me. Decided on the Grip bag for myself. I currently have an MVP Voyager bag and really wanted to eliminate the hunt for specific valuables and it sounds like the Pound bag would be more of the same for me where the Grip bag solves that problem. I'm also a fan of having 12 oz beverages easily accessible during my rounds plus I like the bottom rails on the bag to keep it slightly off the ground. At about half the price this review made me feel good about my choice. Thanks.
You are welcome! I have been busy with a fee other things recently but I may get back to doing reviews and if I do carts would be on the list to get done.
I completely agree about the rail system rubbing lower back, my cheap bag has rail system, and I was shocked that the grip bag my buddy recently got (cs2) also does, I tried so hard to like his bag, but it feels the same on my lower back as my 30 dollar one. I have been both nervous and excited about the "soft base" that they use on pound bags. How well have the bottoms of the pound bags held up? Doesn't look like we will get any shifts from upper park designs any time soon, so I'm seriously considering the carlton. Waiting for a limited edition carlton that calls my name. Love your reviews and most of all I love how often you mention you carry your dog bags with you, don't understand people that don't want to clean up their dogs mess on the field.
Thanks! The soft bottom on the Pound is pretty much a non issue. Ive never seen one close to wear through. I have a ton of confidence that the bottom wont wear through.
Great reviews but really you need that many pencil holders lol? I mean come one 1 is enough if you even keep score. Keep the spares in a zipper pocket.
Long video? *starts watching* Blinks * been 24 minutes 🧐 hmm. I appreciate a long thorough review. Of anything. But especially with disc golf. I’m in between an upper park. Grip. Or pound at this point. I’m quite picky on my disc bag. I’m only using an Innova superhero but I like the layout and pockets and phone slide, pencil pockets. My only gripe on it is the straps and backing. It’s not bad but after 3 years it’s pretty much not comfortable on the back/shoulders. But for $110 when I got it it truly is a nice bag. I’ve been playing for 14 years and am about 980 rated so I’m not a casual player. But per your review of the superheroV2 I am afraid the back actually got worse. Idk. I wish I could just have these 3 bags for a day and inspect them at a Doth level and then be able to decide. Also waiting for restocks right now is making me impatient. Appreciate these reviews.
I’ve been looking for a particular bag with no luck, and I think you might be able to help me. It was made by innova but has the appearance of one of the larger grip eq bags. It isn’t the heropack or 2.0, and it isn’t a grip with a patch in the top center like I first though, but it kinda looks like that. I’ve only seen it in black. I know Paul Macbeth carried one for a bit when he was with innova, and I’m assuming it was their flagship pack for a bit. Any ideas?
@@DothSavek That is absolutely it, thank you so much for your reply. Do you know any more about it? I don’t see a review from you for it but it looks insanely similar to a grip A series. I know it’s a bit older bag and they’ve quit making it, does that mean it probably isn’t worth looking into over a grip?
Such thorough reviews! Looking at picking up either an Octothorpe or Carlton. I’ve had the original Grip bag from their first production run and a Mystery Ranch Mahal for a few years. Any issue with the webbing over the padding on the underside of the shoulder straps on the Pound bags? I’ve had to swap out straps through Mystery Ranch twice via their lifetime warranty.
Thank you for watching! The fabric on the bottom of the backpack straps is not what I would call webbing. Webbing is a tightly woven very abrasive resistant material. The fabric on the bottom of the webbing is a much looser weave achiving a very breathable and soft feel. On my Octothorpe there is just a bit of that open weave fabric that us just barely starting to pill. Its too early on to say if this is the begining of a real problem or if the fabric will just slowly pill over several years and never do anything worse than that. Depending on the cost of new straps I could see myself buying a new set in a few years just to get maximum comfort again. I imagine that the most likely reason to buy new straps is from accidental damage, internal foam wear, and lastly fabric wear.
(Poly)urethane is a very broad compound. Foam is also a broad term. There is both open cell and closed cell versions of polyurethane that are foam. I'm no expert, but a quick google search shed some more light on the terms.
I’ve never had any discomfort with a grip bag on the low back, maybe just adjust the straps up or down a tad Really considering ordering an octothorpe in hunter green since no disc golf brand wants to make a nice dark all green bag, the original spinal taps were awesome but of course people didn’t want those, they’d rather have a bag that looks like every other bag ever made with all the same blah blah yawn colors
I bet the grips feel just perfect to some folks. Lots of different shapes and sizes of people, so different parts of the bags can feel different. I like green bags a lot too. Revolution has bags out in a nice dark green right now. I got the green on my Deluxe Mini and it looks great to me.
Dude I was crying laughing when he was raving about the lack of a pencil pocket. I agree it’s crazy not to have one, but I use U-Disc if I keep my score. Although, I don’t play in tournaments, so that probably explains it.
I hate the valuables pocket on the grip. It's so difficult to get into the pockets when you have putters and it's actually painful in the winter. The zippers also scratch your cell phone screen.
The video is dated for exactly when it was relevant. If you would like current information then look at my newer dated videos. For example I have videos for both the AX4 and new Octohaul.
I can appreciate how 350 to 400 may be far enough out of some budgets to just never be "worth" it. I don't mean its just not for poor people but I mean that I know some people even have tons of money and just refuse to spend it. If you do research further perhaps looking at the Pound Facebook page you will find a very strong following for these bags. They hold their value extremely well and there are not many that go up for sale used because their owners love them so much. It has been almost a year since I recorded this review and I have reviewed 14(I think) different disc golf bags in the last year. I have bought and tested more than 14 bags but I have decided that many of the cheaper bags I will not even review. I take pride in being able to test and recommend high quality bags. On the low quality throw away end of the spectrum are more and more bags made in the the 30 to 40 usd range and I just hate to see these neat looking but extremely cheap bags made. I am at a point in my life where I am able to spend a bit more money to buy higher quality longer lasting stuff. I don't to be a part of the consumer push for manufacturers to make more extremely inexpensive short life items. Buying and owning a Pound bag is the ultimate in helping to support the highest quality of product in the disc golf world.
Also out of the 20+ Bags I have bought and tested in the last year I currently only own 3. 2 of them are bags I have tried to sell and have yet to do so and the 3rd bag is this Octothorpe. Out of all those bags I just keep coming back to the Octothorpe. It is well worth its price to me. I'm considering betting and Octohaul this winter to test as well. I love these Pound bags.
