  • Hey guys, welcome back to my channel! I’m back with another makeover and this one is all about how to mix pattern and colour. The homeowner, Sheena, wanted lots of colour and pattern in her space and the result was a cozy, boho-style living room. She also wanted a dining space within the living room, so my goal was to try to implement that without making the space feel crowded. Let me know in the comments if you love this eclectic style.

C.J. Nyssen I agree, the cover was beautiful, could have added some touch of gold colour to the square pattern area and added seating on top, It would have served as multi function. The open radiator does not look good.

BRAVO ALEXANDRA!! This is brilliant! When not in use, the dining table can be tucked into corner as a display area, and/or a workspace. The only things I thought of were a stained board laid across the top of the radiator for drinks, appetizers or plants or other decor and perhaps a small decorative folding screen to go around the air conditioner. After reading others' comments, your design is very thoughtful, resourceful and smart! I know you couldn't use the radiator cover as a bench because it's way too high compared to the chair heights in the reveal! Putting the couch in front of the radiator faces you away from the window/view, has you staring into the kitchen and you can't use the radiator or someone has an air conditioner blowing on them (pleasant). Again awesome job!

Hi from Aus, Alexandra! 🙋‍♀️🇦🇺 THANKYOU for proving that you can mix different styles, colours and textures and still make a gorgeous, inviting space 😀 I think you show that in all of your makeovers though - not just this one - thats why I keep watching you!! I've felt so deflated for so long about my random, mismatched collection of furniture that I cant afford to replace, but last weekend, inspired by you, I went and spent $100 on some prints, cushions, throws and a plant and my space is completely transformed! You've shown me you dont have to change a lot in a room to make a major difference. You're the best!! Keep doing what you're doing!!!! 😘

So glad to see that you got away from your usual pink, black, and pom pom look! One of my favorite makeovers so far. The rug is stunning, but feel the black and white table detracted from it. I would've left the rad cover in place. It gave the room a more professional, finished look. Also, ditch the large prints on the floor in front of the fireplace...they detract from the continuity of the room.

You are truly talented. It looked complete in the before...imo. but you really made it more multifunctional without making it cluttered. Using the optimal space in an effective manner is very difficult in spaces that seem complete on the surface. And I think most people would dare add more color to an already eclectic mismatch of items, that they would introduce a grounding neutral. But you introduced the fuchsia basket, yellow chairs, and red rug... lol. #fearless #goingwithit. Way to embrace the current style without making clients mould to you!!!

The wooden rad cover keeps people from burning themselves. seriously. I grew up in homes with this kind of heating and the rad covers are actually a part of the heating systems controlling how the heat from the rad spread into the room. They are not just furniture. Think of them as a part of the technology. Also, that particular rad cover was made to create symmetry under the window because the rad is not centered. I understand the space issue and you are right about it but I would not ever give up a rad cover. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for another fun watch :)

I'm from central Europe and we don't have covers for these type of heating. We advice kids to be careful.

    • @Tealeafsong
      @Tealeafsong 4 года назад +2

@@l.j.7540 You are right about common sense and kids ! Yes, I grew up that way too :) Not all homes have lovely rad covers. I remember being very small (just walking) and my mother warning me, and me not thinking much of it. She finally placed my little hand on a rad hot enough to make an impression but not hot enough to hurt me. I I remember pulling my hand away in shock and crying (but not hurt) I understood and listened to her when she said "hot" after that.
Rad covers actually help to distribute the heat more evenly through the room. They are actually a part of the heater itself. Not an add-on. The old buildings ( before WW1) often used a passive heating technology of windows on stairwells and doors with grates (not solid) etc to create airflow and to distribute warmth in the winter and cool in the summer. When renovations reposition or remove old doors, it can disturb the entire flow.

I don't remember where I heard it from but I'd heard that for eclectic design if you use the power of three it will pull everything together. I see this formula at work in this room. You have the black and white stripes in the coffee table, in the chair, and even the the radiator. With the rug you have that splash of color, in the yellow chair, and the throw pillows, and even the picture behind the couch. Also the mirror has those vertical lines which helps pull everthing together in a very cohesive mood. All together th8s is a very inviting room. ✨💖✨

I would keep the radiator cover - the top would be where I could serve the food from for my entertaining and give more room at the table for place settings. I would also have picked a perkier tree going upward and more airy leaves . The colorful basket and chair in the reading nook are great . The chair is such a good choice ( maybe not the fabric tho ) because it is comfy for reading but light enough to pull to table . I miss the old drop leaf tables. They hopefully make a come back with such small spaces . I enjoy your joy in what you do Aklexandra

Oh my Alexandra.... I love this Boho look..... I must say, my style is like a boho-modern minimalist style, because I like the pop of colour / eclectic look but also the white and clean look....

I am very curious why you would put the table in the corner instead of the "reading nook" area. It had way more space and was much closer to the kitchen.

That would create a traffic jam in that area, and eliminate the reading nook/conversation chair. It isn't used all the time, so it's in an out-of-the-way spot, and can be pulled out when needed.

@@notconvincedgranny6573 the reading nook/conversation chair would just swap with the table (not be eliminated). Also it's inconvenient to carry food through the living space to dine.

Tiffany Yost i agree, i dont like this “makeover” which is hardly a makeover, more like adding random furniture in the most inconvenient places. also look how they moved the sofa, there is a door JUST behind it, talk about traffic... imagine bumping to your sofa everytime you walk in. ridiculously badly planned room

i was expecting her to push the sofa against the radiator cover have the reading nook chair where she put the light, and have a bigger dining table in the center of the room

I agree, especially as the sofa is almost blocking a doorway. It could have stayed where it was and the new chair would make the L shape for conversation.

Great makeover! love the use of space and it doesn't look crowded, I live in a small space and I love mixing and matching textures and furniture styles, and lots of elements, I'm not one for matchy matchy, that is just no fun at all, and I love lots of color, bright and bold and boho! Thanks, see you in your next makeover, bye for now.

I always think how much simpler it would be to just like ONE style and always gravitate toward only that. Instead of me who likes freakin everything! Lol

I love it so much! Colorful and full of details and personality but still such a nice relaxing vibe! The idea of moving the couch and putting the table behind is brilliant. Great job!

This gives me hope with a few items I have bought that I'm waiting for. I love a bohemian look to a room. I'm currently redoing my home office/studio which doubles as an extra bedroom (for now, still debating about keeping the daybed). I usually prefer a very 'solid color' palette, i've been scared of patterns. Most of them don't appeal to me, and the ones that do are usually so funky that I have no idea how to make 'them' work but this time, I'm determined. I'm taking it slow and I'm on a tight budget, which is keeping me from buying too much. I'll do my best to keep in mind, "When dealing with multiple patterns, there are no rules." Thank you so much!
