Thank you, CrashCourse, for helping me further my education as a 30-something year old. All I remember of science in high school was all the terms we defined. Sadly, there were no discussions or labs - thanks in large part to all the miscreants in my school. However, the ability to learn and understand and apply the knowledge I am gaining from these videos (including the other science videos) and the books I've obtained, I am feeling confident in my pursuit of a medical degree. You guys rock :)

I think it's incredible we live in a world where people are making stuff like this, not only is this more detailed than the stuff I learnt at school, but it presents it in a way that's fun and intuitive, so cool!
I'm finding these videos amazing for my study, I do university level anatomy a physiology and paramedicine. and sometimes when the content get really intense it's so helpful to take a step back from the insanely hard content do some fun revision of the basics and then try the insanely hard stuff. Thanks crash course.
Receptors having those specific names is hilarious to me like sure "thermo" for heat, "chemo" for chemical "mechano" for pressure and "photo" for light make perfect sense but then just "NO!" for pain. The lizard brain named that one 😂😂😂
Etion Pinari yeah, that really didn't need to be animated for so long auregamer5 Even though I'd seen it before I ended up watching the entire first sketch
Reflexive actions can be a bitch. A friend of mine was trying to pick something up between two hot stoves. His hand touched the left one, and his reflex told him to pull his hand away- right, into the other one. He bounced between the two at least four or five times before his higher functions made him pull back rather than sideways.
+Eugene InLaw It was on a small boat, where the stoves were singular units and built into the architecture of the boat itself. Although he wins no points for sticking his hand down there in the first place..
Crash Course, you guys are absolute life savors! I understand everything I watch from these videos! With a terrible teacher who, well, can't teach; these really help me pass his test!!
Found this chanel a week before my Anatomy exam (This friday!) Thank God for you guys! You made the most confusing and boring class fun and i finally understand the stuff i didnt!
I am Autistic and struggle to feel pain sometimes - when busy, i may not notice stepping on lego, but when overstimulated, my brain overreacts to pain and i feel the stepping on lego greatly.
Pain isn't subjective, suffering is. Pain is always sensed, but the proceeding reactions and emotional connections may vary from individual; whether from instinct or conditioning. Naturally speaking: The goal of pain is to entice suffering. The goal of suffering is to entice fear. The goal of fear is to elude death.
ShadowMantis702 Pain is the amount of activated cells mixed with your brain's reaction to said event, the reaction for the brain differs from person to person. Think of it as activated neurons + brain reaction = pain
TheSignetGamer I believe there is a Buddhist saying: "Everyone feels pain, but not everyone suffers." I feel it is more precise to make the distinction between pain (sensation) and suffering (reaction). The signals sent from the nervous system's receptors has already dictated danger, igniting the sensation distinct from fair touch. The following appropriate reaction is to suffer from that feeling. Pain = Damage sensory detection Suffering = Consistent distress to entice the desire for repair To suffer is the default, suffering makes you care about the pain. However this can be different or change. That fact that it can, I think verifies its distinction. Because if they were the same, we'd be condemned to always submit; nor could we discover pain deviants.
ShadowMantis702 Thanks for the philosophy lesson. Fr tho, some people do have a higher pain tolerance, all philosophy aside, with what they consider worth being upset about, or in your case you say it’s suffering. If I get hit in the guy I can withstand it, 1. Bc I got used to it 2. Bc of my getting used to that other painful things don’t seem so painful. Yeah some people can deal with it better, pain can be if you take out the distinctions between stuff bc of your own personal philosophy on it.
Hank. I had a brain hemorrhage 2 yrs ago and your videos help me understand difficult topics and as a result i can make progress and although i may never be "normal" again. You help arm me with information i use in my rehab
Watching these videos makes me painfully aware of my strangeled nerv in my right leg. What is kinda awesome that, if you feed your brain with other random stuff (And painkiller) you can subdue the pain to a degree. But as soon you dive into thinking about it in detail you don`t only feel the pain but can feel it even in more detail as more you know about it. I think that is amazing and baffels me everytime.
Testing on CNS and PNS next week for online AP class. So glad there is crashcourse to explain it in more detail, instead of just studying class lecture notes in power point. Thank you!
CrashCourse these videos are great when you have an exam coming up, am tired of studying, and want to relax and watch a little tv. Thanks for all the uploads!!! You guys are awesome!!! I too have an exam soon which includes the nervous system. These are very helpful.

I love learning anat and phys! I didn't get to do any at university despite doing a biology based degree. Thanks for being awesome Crash Course. PS- finally got around to signing up for Patreon, there are some great perks there if you haven't looked into it yet!
i adore you CrashCourse team , thanks to all the patreons that make this possible, i will support the show too& Hank i love your way of presenting scintific topics, you re awesome!
Thank you for these informative crash courses! Have honestly helped me understand brain behaviour so much better than my actual tutor. Keep up the good work!
I truly love CC... I wish to be an interpreter someday, and I would dearly love to specialize in medical interpretation and cultural mediation. CC helps me to improve my scientific vocabulary to a great extent
Crash course ,Mr Hank Green, obviously had produced an excellent educational material for our intellectual digestion. By combining what I have learnt elsewhere and the vivid pictorial illustration, it facilitates my learning process. Thanks Mr Hank Green sir, the producer. 🍉🥒🌶🧀🍤🥤🧱🌇🛶🌛🌈🥇
I never comment on videos but I literally lost it when you described stepping on a tack. Assuring your dog you aren't yelling at her. LOL! Removing the spiney devil from your flesh. HAHAHA! Great videos by the way! You are AMAZING! Can't thank you enough for the much needed jokes while studying. Stay silly CrashCourseGuy!
what about phantom limb syndrome, or chronic pain after whatever caused the pain is healed, and neuropathy? please do an entire series on what's going on when the body isn't working right!
***** I like your video, especially the advice in the second half concerning peripheral treatment. i really like your thought also but i personally recommend Knewreck prevent neuropathy guide for better result . Please Google it for more information
I know this is a completely unrelated topic, but I absolutely cannot wait to see Hank on Tabletop's RPG show this summer. I am so ecstatic to see him along with such a sublime cast. I am eagerly awaiting hearing and seeing his character.
I suffer from chronic pain, fibromyalgia in the lumbar spine. I've been in varying degrees of pain since 2002. It is so effing frustrating to one day have such severe pain that I am crying and can't move and have to be driven to the ER only to be scanned and prodded and told "nothing's wrong" and given opiates and muscle relaxants and sent home. Then to be laid up for the next two weeks because "nothing's wrong." Acute pain is fantastic because there are reasons for it and it ENDS. Chronic pain just kind of claws its way into your life and stays there, and you just have to deal with it.
I wish my teacher is like this . Like she just give us pop quiz and give us certain things we have to study . Although it seems like the things we studied aren’t in the exams like bruh very annoying
I want to memorize this even though it has nothing to do with my major, because it might be easier to handle an injury if I can focus on what my body is doing, ideally distracting me from the pain until it is relieved.
I hope this helps me later on my Lecture Exam. Thanks. Crashcourse guy is so entertaining to watch. And to make it more entertaining. Change the speed of the video in to 2. Thank me for later ahahahah.
Wow, Melissa hope you have days of freedom to catch up on everything. This is one of my favorite channels. I'll go to the biology playlist and end up falling asleep eventually because they play one after another for you. Then I wake up during a completely different subject discussion and realize I was dreaming about the inflammatory response.
Honestly wish Hank was my anatomy and physiology professor. I might actually understand it.
Yeah, me too -- i am taking an online class and she just has us read the book, take quizzes and her quizzes are not easy.
I have spent months investigating reducing neuropathy at home and found an awesome website at Gabs Neuro Guide (google it if you are interested)
Me too!!! He would be the most amazing professor!!
He has writers. All he has is a very great personality.
Jorge Ramirez I doubt that. I’m sure he knows a lot and contributes. 🙄 and he has the look and speaking-skills and etc.

I’m studying for my Physiology exam (veterinary medicine) and this channel and Hank talking have been really helping me. Thank you so much
Some say he's still stepping on that nail...
Late call.....
this man helped me understand everything i read while studying for the HESI exam. THANK YOU
I wish this guy was my lecturer!! My brain seems to love everything he says!!
probably true

WHY WHY DID YOU HAVE IT ANIMATED TO CONSTANTLY KEEP STEPPING ON IT WHYYYYYYY
I'm glad nobody does that in real life
hahahaha
The foot bouncing on the needle was sooooooo painful to watch...
Etion Pinaristill not as bad as ruclips.net/video/2m4a-bl4alo/видео.htmlm32s
auregamer5 Oh phew, I was expecting something far worse when I clicked on that.
Etion Pinari yeah, that really didn't need to be animated for so long
auregamer5 Even though I'd seen it before I ended up watching the entire first sketch
Etion Pinari Yeah, I had to censor it with my hand to be able to keep watching :(.
+Etion Pinari That was extremely painful to me

It was, it really was. Thankfully he scuppered it soon after and lives in a much more modernised, stable boat now.
VidSheridan He should sue
NickSheridanVids not really a fault of the reflexive nerves but rather a bad placement of those stoves

true words
Fear leads to Anger.
Anger leads to Hate.

I sense much fear from stepping on that stupid tack.

we laughed on PNS and ANS ;)
LMAO!!!!
I can think of ways how and why...

You were learning about this in 6th grade wtf?
When I was 4, I accidentally cut off my finger. Since then, pain didn't feel as bad as it did before and it still doesn't.
Thankyou crash course! I learned so much everytime i watch your video

Yes! I was watching all of the nervous system videos and then I fell asleep and dreampt about glial cells! Lol weird but cool!
the best info that I have ever had was with the Nats Neuro Site (i found it on google) - definately the most incredible method i've seen.
My anatomy courses love this video, especially Lane Rhodes.
Sr. Cerebro, gracias por ayudarme a evitar cualquier dolor. Tendré cuidado de no conseguirlo porque me duele.
