    Man it really sucks the body can't tell the difference, I remember going into some exams with my heart racing as if my life was on the line.

    • @Xandros999
      @Xandros999 9 лет назад +47

      aaron Gregor but your body doesn't know anything but your perceptions, so in some sense it's you that can't tell the difference. Your body hasn't a clue about deadlines, fixed expenses or exams. These things do feel urgent, they ARE urgent; it's just that the stress response is badly suited for such complex situations.

      TheInternetcord I agree :D, this was my first episode so I literally discovered CrashCourse 10 minutes ago, and from what I've seen it's the most INTELLIGENTLY ORGANIZED and ENTERTAININGLY DELIVERED science channel I've seen thus far! :)*
      Seriously, I'm a Registered Nurse and currently pursuing my Biological Sciences degree and this is *TEXTBOOK MATERIAL* taught in an entertaining (and effective) way. *I love how it concentrates on COMMON & IMPORTANT TOPICS* in a very clear way, *especially the RECAP they do at the end*, that's a genius way to drill it into our heads :D, it's like they say, *"tell your audience, and tell them again what you just told them"*

      JuhaniP I'm 18 too and have recently had the same experience (burnout), i even took a semester off of uni. so tell me:
      -How much time did the recovery take
      -How bad was it
      -What "trick" did you use to overcome it, if any
      -Any tips?

    • @X3fishyX3
      @X3fishyX3 8 лет назад +9

      +Oussama El I know I'm not the same person who you asked the question to but I also experienced stress burn out (also 18 at uni!)..
      I reached a point where the stress became so much I just shut down and wasn't functioning in any aspects of my life... I was getting to the point of making myself quite seriously ill both mentally and physically (not eating etc...)!
      One thing that helped me was realizing that my self-expectations were way too high and that I was beating myself up over things that I shouldn't be e.g. I felt I wasn't doing enough work, when in reality I was! This is partly due to the fact I had a hard time getting onto the course and was determined to not mess it up (which incidentally I was on the path to doing with the amount of pressure I was putting myself under!!)
      My parents forced me to take a step back and look at what I already know vs what I think I should know and suddenly life seemed a bit clearer... Instead of focusing on how bad I felt stress wise I channeled my thoughts into positive thoughts for other people e.g. if someone was dressed nice I would tell them!
      I have done 4 assessments and have passed them all and although I still get stressed, I have learnt to take a step back and remove myself from it!
      Also exercises and showers when it got too much helped me massively! ;) Hope this helps xx

    • @whatrtheodds
      @whatrtheodds 7 лет назад +8

      Burnout is terrible, mine happened when I was long out of home, it took my body ages to recover. I was all alone and had no support. But alas lesson learnt, it took me a good 9months to recover, my body would just shut down, it was in pain, fatigue was an everyday occurrence and i got depression very heavily. I found it so so hard to work and study and do anything, but I didn't stop I just slowwwed right the f""" down, I found that really challenging as it made me feel somewhat pathetic, I judged myself so harshly. I learned a few things like even though I want to set myself up, I need to have fun, have limits, be kind to myself and it okay to need TLC im only human and maybe even if I try my best I still may not get to my dreams and that its NEVER worth the burn out.

      But that is what evolutionists believe, isn't it? There was no need for the Intelligent Designer in all of this?

    • @PeterGrayIsAwesome
      @PeterGrayIsAwesome 8 лет назад +3

      +Mikkel Lowe Not "intelligent" design, but just design by things working carrying on and mixing with other things that work. This eventually makes the incredibly complex structures that make up biology. Not because it was designed by a person or being, but because it was designed by the different biotic and abiotic factors in its environment. Things that don't work die off.

    • @Tide2375
      @Tide2375 8 лет назад

      +Mikkel Lowe It's all about efficiency. The human body works too *well* for you to not think that it was engineered and perfected? That is fine, but I'll have to propose a different scenario: trial and error, the basic concept of natural selection. Now, I can't dispute your Cosmic Engineer, but chance is actually far more likely. There is evidence of progression in the lineages that are alive today.
      Please, do not take offense when I ask you for evidence of your Engineer.

    • @elhilo1972
      @elhilo1972 8 лет назад

      +Bill CZY Apparently, very intelligent. The proof that I have of my Designer, God, is simply because it is not proven or logical that such intricate and irreducibly complex systems as explained only slightly by Crash Course could possibly the result of some explosion. It is great to see all the hallmarks of engineering in our bodies.
