For me, this guitar has been the PERFECT travel guitar! When I travel, I like to pack as little as possible, and I'm extremely lazy during my downtime, lol. Thus, wanting to have a guitar with me for practice, general noodling, and effects to boot with no cables, amplification, or setup needed...this was a no-brainer. I'd recommend getting it for a better deal than retail, though. Great review, btw! You're correct with your takeaways. I think the effects are by and large making use of open source algorithms, which I'm totally fine with in the context of what this guitar is for my use cases. I have effects pedals from Empress, Chase Bliss, Walrus, etc., so I do know *exactly* what you mean about stuff like the reverb. But, again, for me, this guitar is first and foremost a practice guitar for when I travel for work, etc., so, for what they are and the fact that they're built into the unit, the effects are something of a luxury that I really dig for hearing some ideas play out with a bit more dynamics. Lastly, you're spot on with the pickup noise, too. If it were anything more than a convenient, portable practice tool for me, it would be bothersome. But just like those nasty overtones we have learned to ignore when we fret notes, the pickup noise from this seems to have fallslen into the same type of mental relegation for me.
I have 2 Hush guitars. Both the original version..not this pro model, so I cant comment on the effects. But I can tell you mine do NOT feel cheap at all. I like them very much and I got them both for less than a hundred dollars on ebay from the donner store. Well worth the price. My only gripe is the tuning knobs are not the easiest to fine tune.
