    To stay up to date:
    • Lion's mane, psilocybin, LSD and DMT seem to increase neurogenesis.
    • Fasting seems to increase neurogenesis as well.
    • Although two studies concluded caffeine decreased neurogenesis, those are only two studies. There are still many brain benefits of tea and coffee, such as reducing the risk of parkinson's and alzheimer's disease - probably due to their high polyphenol content.
    • The most beneficial type of exercise in terms of neurogenesis is by far sustained aerobic activity. HIIT is ~30% as effective, and strength training unfortunately doesn't do much for neurogenesis.
    • Neurogenesis seems to occur through neural stem cell division in the subventricular zone of the brain.

    • @Butterkin
      @Butterkin 5 лет назад +1

      Have you broken down the studies and tried to figure out what might cause them to be inaccurate?

    From experience, I think self-improvement videos ought to have a disclaimer: Don't get carried away. A lot of the purported effects mentioned are born from a lifetime of bad habits, not overnight. You're not getting brain cancer if you just sat at home this week or you've had a boring routine for the past year.
    Likewise, necking a gallon of green tea tomorrow morning is not going to turn you super-sayan. It's small investments over a lifetime that will obtain the desired effects. While you may not be doing everything right, you're not doing it all wrong either.

Things got better in 2019, but lockdown happened and I can’t take care of myself because I have to constantly prioritize other people. So, voila! I’m back to square one and everyday I’m just continuously spiraling down.

      @@iggybarrato9009 Not just the contaminants though, the only things from there that I'd eat are turmeric (and I wouldnt eat it daily), ginger, and blueberries. The rest can be inflammatory such as the lectins in the pea protein (some pea protein doesn't have lectins but most do) or the oxalates in the almond milk and spirulina.

    I've been living a boring life for 3 years. Despite going to quite a lot of events full of people, i still cannot make any friends, connection, or even find anything to do that sparks an interest to me.
    Now i got a job and needed to filter many information about the process of the job so that i can execute my daily tasks, but i found it so hard to store it in my brain or recall it when i need it to perform my task.
    After watching this video, i hope to wire my brain connectivity so that i could perform well on my job Because i see it as a good opportunity to strengthen my mind and improve my skills in the area. All i need is time to practice all sorts of thing that help restore my brain to its normal state when information i need just pop up whenever i need. At the age of 21, i hope I'm not too late to start this and build a good future.

    Great video, thank you for sharing with us! What got me to live differently was a chance sighting of a book at my local Barnes and Noble several years ago, 'Grain Brain' by Dr. David Perlmutter. In it, he describes how wheat and gluten negatively affects brain function. He also shows pictures, or scans of human brains after eating food with wheat, and without. What a big difference it has been after taking his information to heart. I no longer get brain fog and I'm more active and feel so much better than when I was younger, eating whatever I wanted and drinking alcohol. I'm a 59yo male. I've changed up my eating habits, too. Berries and nuts and low carb foods and some exercise in the mornings I keep dumbbells by my desk. I also try to eat one main per day, almost like intermittent fasting. You too can be healthy!

    I a 72 and have done a lot of things in this video for the last 25 years. The biggest benefit is I do not look my age plus I have maintained core strength and upper body strength so I can be physically active. Sometimes I even have had to get out my drivers licence to get seniors discounts. However, I am starting to show signs of brain atrophy. This is heartening. However, I am not giving up in despair. I am focusing on MINDFULNESS, breathing and cheerfulness and greatfulness right now and it puts me in a better frame of mind. Plus, the good diet I have eaten all these years ensures that I have good blood, good sugar levels, good blood pressure, no Gaul bladder trouble, ETC. I am also doing physio, counselling, hypnotic therapy and going to my Doc regularly. I am also doing different things and am sure I will gain some "headway" in my old noggin yet...ha, ha. I was so glad to hear about neurogenesis and Neuro plasticity. Thanks for the Great video and good luck to all and may you all have as interesting a journey as I am on.

    Purely anecdotal, but I once had a concussion and stayed on the couch glitching out for three days. My thought processes were so slow and confusing and I couldn't maintain a train of thought for longer than a few seconds. On the 4th day I had this sudden *massive* physical craving for blueberries, it overrode the inane chatter going on in my brain, and getting blueberries became my only objective. I got a friend to get some for me and I ate them hand over fist for hours. That evening my brain felt like it rebooted. I don't know any other way to explain it, but it was like a switch suddenly flipped on, all systems started to power up, and I could think like my old self again. Not sure what part blueberries played in my recovery, but it was absolutely fascinating to me.

    A huge part of getting smarter and being productive is based on your own thoughts. For example if you constantly remind yourself that you are good enough and motivate yourself, your brain will function a lot better.

      Yes! Also, psilocybin helps. But, you should respect the chemical and be weary of things that trigger bad trips. LSD has helped me so much in my life. I've only done it three times throughout the last six or so months. I would recommend it to just about anyone! Used in the right ways, it enhances brain function, quality of life, and spiritual connections. It is also very unharmful.

      I’ve started hanging out with a new group who are big psychedelic fans, my parents own an orchard, so we do trips while camping out the back of the orchard every few weeks. It started beginning of 2019, I’ve literally cured myself of anxiety and depression since I did my very first acid trip.... it’s winter here in Aus now so we’ve been chilling at our houses and having DMT seshes every weekend... my god. These people are like a reflection of me now, we’re always in a positive/love energy as a group. Nothing but laughs, banter and deep talks... the point is, I’ve cured myself from depression and anxiety, found the best friends on the planet who have nothing but love for me and the world and I now know that I am a consciousness beyond thought. All because of acid and DMT! I love drugs! Don’t listen to the government people, psychedelics are only banned because they raise your consciousness and make you smart as hell! 🦚🦋🌌

      I'd personally look into resistance training(free-weights) which has been shown to elevate heart rate more than aerobic activity without the negatives of aerobic(decreased testosterone, decreased muscle mass etc...) Obvs any exercise is 1000% better than no exercise, don't get me wrong!
      Just something to look into! :)

    How about drinking white tea instead of green tea? It has similar amounts of Polyphenoles while often said to be having less caffeine (depends highly on how hot the water is).
    I also think nuts and seeds should also be on this list. There is a good TED talk called "Power Foods for the brain", which states this.

    • @MindDrip
      @MindDrip  6 лет назад

      I'm not a tea drinker so I don't know much about it, but googling it I found this article which shows white tea leaves have on average more caffeine than green ones, and simultaneously less EGCG, so I'm not too sure if white tea is the superior choice:
      www.superfoodly.com/benefits-of-white-tea-vs-green-tea/

      @@MindDrip Thanks a lot for your quick reply! :) I really appreciate your videos!
      I also have the same information that white tea leaves have more caffeine, but I think that white tea is often brewed with lower water-temperatures than green tea, which is why most people think white tea has less caffeine than it's green counterpart.
      There is also de-caffeinated green tea - it is seldom and not cheap, but it exists. (Achieved through some sort of nitrogen treatment I guess) However, I don't know how the amount of EGCG is in this variant is. If I can spend a moment, I'll try to look into it. :)

      Andrew: There is no good, scientific reason to avoid gluten unless you have digestive/autoimmune issues with that particular type of protein. I know one person who has a condition that makes her allergic to gluten, but most people who avoid gluten do it for no good reason at all.

    • @MindDrip
      @MindDrip  6 лет назад +1

      So I just published a new video that is related to gluten which you can check out if you like. I agree with MindVersusMisery that unless you know you have a sensitivity to gluten it probably isn't a good idea to completely eliminate it from your diet, as you will lose the bacteria that digest it - meaning that you can actually make yourself intolerant of it through avoiding it for too long of a time period. That being said, consuming too much gluten and gluten-containing foods is probably not the best idea either, and refined grain may be a better choice than whole grain (learn why in the new video).

    Is there a way to grow or connect neurons for speech in a person born aphasia with autistic tendencies, non verbal for words, makes some sounds once and awhile when they are busy, humming noises mostly? If so, which Neurogenesis or which nootropic would you recommend or what group of minerals or vitamins work best for this condition?

    • @mrwajpofc
      @mrwajpofc 6 лет назад +1

      Look into Lions mane and Psilocybin. John Stamets is a Mycologist whose cured his stuttering with the use of Psilocybin (a hallucinogen found in mushrooms). There is also powerful evidence of neurogenesis accompanied with myelinization (Lions mane has been shown to increase axon myellinization) when using Lions mane and Psilocybin.

    I’d like to know why flaxseeds are not adequate

    • @MindDrip
      @MindDrip  6 лет назад +17

      The book explains that flaxseeds are a great source of the omega-3 ALA, but our bodies are extremely inefficient at converting it into the more important omega-3s DHA and EPA.

    • @MindVersusMisery
      @MindVersusMisery 6 лет назад +2

      Jake: The question about whether or not ALA omega-3 are sufficient is still up for debate. But I would say most of the publics concern seem to come from marketing from supplement companies who says that your brain will rot if you don't eat omega-3 capsuls.
      The thing is that the conversion ratio from ALA to DHA and EPA are strongly dependent on how much omega-6 we consume. If you don't eat much junk food and keep your oils low or avoiding oils you're probably fine with getting all your omega-3:s from flax seeds and other nuts and seeds. I suggest you make up your own mind. I haven't made up mine yet, so I remain open-minded and skeptical at the same time.
      Here is a good channel/clip that deals with new research, and Dr Popper I find to have a lot of integrity and skips over the bullshit:
