I just got a violin for christmas. I've been so excited to learn to play and have had nothing but trouble tuning it. I've watched numerous videos on tuning before landing on yours and I'm so glad that I did! Thanks so much! Your video has been the most helpful
I just got my first violin today, and when I tried to tune the G string, I could tune it to get the right tone, but as soon as I let go of the peg, it turned the other way all by itself
Hi! The peg is tapered so that it is thicker on the end where you turn it. So, in order for it to fit tightly into the hole, you have to push it in while you turn it. Push hard enough to wedge the peg tightly into the hole, but not so hard that you might break it.
Jeez bluegrass thank you so much for this, I was choked and almost sent my fiddle back when that dead sound came out and I thought something was wrong but you saved me time thank you so much
Thanks for the videos. I also bought the same fiddle. Unfortunately, the tailpiece hanger stripped before I could get it all the way tuned. I was really hoping to get a note out before it broke. Hopefully after buying a new hanger it won't be throwing more good money after bad.
Most suggest that you keep plucking on the string you are tuning While the peg is tighten .... so it won't snap/break, and yes push in on the peg to "wedge it in" to help it hold. esp with the thinner easily broken thinner strings (E, A)
thanks a bunch man , but my G and E pegs are not responding, anytime I try to tune it they twist ,they twist back because of too much tension, pls how can I solve this problem?
My previous post disappeared. We purchased the same violin for our son and I had no problem setting it up. Just wondering if notching the bridge is essential. Our son's orchestra teacher says yes. If so, is this easy for us to do? The bridge is otherwise prepared for the violin.
+Debbie Valioukevitch -- It isn't too difficult. The bridge that comes with your violin is usually not a true blank. It is usually pre-shaped to about the right size. The grooves should be 12 mm apart. Make a light mark in the center of the top arch, then measure 6 mm to either side and mark. These are the locations of the A and D strings. From those marks, measure outward 12 mm. These are the locations of the G and E strings. Fold a piece of light sanding paper in two and gently make a tiny groove at these four locations. The groove should be smaller than the string diameter. It should be just deep enough to catch the string, and no deeper. After you make the groove, rub it with pencil graphite to make a low-friction surface for the string to set in.
Your on-line video was so helpful! One quick question...My son's orchestra teacher says the bridge should be notched. (We purchased the same violin you have in this video.) Do you recommend this and if so can we do this on our own? (The bridge is otherwise fit to the violin.) Thank you for your advice.
ok when I try to tune it its like its not wanting to tune I finally get it tuned and when I go play the string itl untune and I keep making it tighter but it want do it.. it don't wanna stayed tune what do I do?
+MsLansones Absolutely. It is best if you connect it to an amplifier or headset so you can hear it, but even un-amplified you should be able to hear the tone. That's a nice electric!
***** Thank you so much John. I am a complete noob and hubby wants me to teach him. :\ You will be getting a lot of questions from me in the future. **My apologies in advance.**
You need to keep straightening the bridge as you tune. You could try putting some graphite between the strings and the bridge so the strings don't grip and pull the bridge as much as you tighten.
You have to push the tuner in while turning it Hope I helped But please if you can I commented on this video asking a question please answer me if you can

I bought this exact violin, and this was a massive help! This is my first violin and I would be pretty lost without this complete guide, thank you!

Jeez bluegrass thank you so much for this, I was choked and almost sent my fiddle back when that dead sound came out and I thought something was wrong but you saved me time thank you so much

hah stay tuned
Peg drops, or rosining the pegs will help to keep the pegs in place once tuned.
Liam Zakalwe how do you Rosin, pegs?
Very helpful. Thank you.
Brilliant! Thanks.

This happened with every string, it seems like there's too much tension for them to stay put, is there a way I can fix this?
ok when I try to tune it its like its not wanting to tune I finally get it tuned and when I go play the string itl untune and I keep making it tighter but it want do it.. it don't wanna stayed tune what do I do?

Please help 🥺
at 4:30 the sound post looks to be in front of the bridge.
Its not
Great Love it!!! ♥♥♥
I've got a SV130, can I tune it the same way (plucking method)?

What is the tuner called that you have
I'm a newbie. Why do you stretch the strings several times?
This helps the strings settle more quickly.
The other part two should be properly labeled as part three! :-)
What if your fiddle doesn't have those fine tuners like mine?
They are not necessary, but they sure do make life easier.
@@johnjennifercockman7321 and what if your tuners on the stock went turn. The strings ain't tight and the pegs dont want to turn
I have a Violin Yamaha 3/4
I have an issue with my bridge falling over when I try tuning..
You need to keep straightening the bridge as you tune. You could try putting some graphite between the strings and the bridge so the strings don't grip and pull the bridge as much as you tighten.
@@Bluegrassdaddy thank you, I think I finally got it 👍😁
OMG NOOOOO THE PUN at 7:15 I CAN'T
Help. Mine my e doesn't make any sound
I just bought a electric violin.
I followed a video and i broke the g string.
So i cant play with it
I love you,. John
The g and the string beside the pegs keep moving back
You may want have to take the pegs out and dip them in briefly in warm water to swell the wood a little bit.
I can't get the G string to tune, the peg keeps turning back
Same
You have to push the tuner in while turning it
Hope I helped
But please if you can I commented on this video asking a question please answer me if you can
for some reason, these vdos of his remind me of Kentucky.
Help me pls how do I fix it

Pegs are by far the hardest to deal with
And it broke.
Same
I broke the D string lol
WE GOT THE EXACT VIOLIN AND THE THE EXACT TUNER AS WELL... WTH😂
BRUH I HAD TO PUT THE BRIDGE ON AND IM HAVING A CRISIS
Only the E string would stay put
I tuned for an hour still bot in tune
Who’s tuning their cheap Amazon violin? 🤣
Very difficult for a beginner.
my G string won't tune when i am tuning it, the peg thing at the top won't stay still
