    This is the first and only time I have ever seen on RUclips one of these cranes mounted properly. Everybody else thinks they can put plates under and over the sheet metal and get away with it. There is no way that will EVER work. ---- You did it 100% right.

    Nice build! I recommend a dedicated deep-cycle battery for it. You can wire it up to charge off the alternator with an isolator. Your starter pack is made for starting. That crane will leave you unable to start your truck one day if you lift one too many things.

    i load a lot of wood. big wood. and i also scrap metal. i just bought the crane. this idea with the winch is really fantastic. im not getting any younger and my back has seen better times. the crane is on sale now 99$ and the winch is 59$. 17$ for the pulley. so for under 200 bucks its a great helper. i also want to mount a spare battery with a shut off , so you can run the winch and not worry about if the truck will start. cheers.

Do you know if it can go on the left? Which side would be easier when it comes to jacking up the jack? Looks hard to reach on the right-side. Also looking for what type of pulley. Looks like he welded it on. I just want to make sure it's enclosed so the cable won't slip off the pulley. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you Thank you Thank you. I have a bunch of eight foot railroad rails to load on a flatbed, probalby 300 lbs each, and I was wondering if the truck bed crane might work. I was thinking of getting the one with the hand crank, but I really really like how slick the electric winch and crane combo worked. It got me to thinking. I have this one ton flatbed truck that I use to pull trailers and I always thought I would use it more to move heavy objects, and I think the reason I haven't is because the bed is four feet off the ground, and the only way I've ever been able to load anything heavy on it was with a fork lift, and I don't have a fork lift. I wonder if I had your crane and winch combo on that flatbed, maybe have a way to move it from corner to corner, I might start using that flat bed for more things. I was very glad to actually see it work in this video. THanks again !!!

      I use one to lift large metal pieces for fabrication it works great. Only thing I did different is taking off the wire cable and replacing it with nylon webbing from a ratchet strap. The webbing is easier to handle, cheap to replace and doesn’t have a tendency to spin like steel cable will.

    Ok I understand now... Those engine hoists have a higher WLL rating because they are designed with the integrated stabilizer legs... The pickup truck hoists are rated almost half or quarter of the engine hoists because they are designed to be bolted to the truck bed, BUT because he built his own stabilizer frame/leg, his WLL rating is higher and can lift the heavy engine block with the higher WLL capacity winch.. Thank you for the demonstration!

Rather than separate the bed from the frame, I cut the tube frame into two pieces, slide the tubing in between the bed and the frame on both side and welded the two tube frames back together. I used 2" square tube 3/16" thick. The fit between the bed and the frame was very tight. I had to hammer the tube into place. Then welded the tube to the truck frame on each side of the frame. It's very secure and lifts as well as shown in the video.

      The engine I loaded was probably close to the weight of your laser machine and I don't think I'd want to do that everyday. I think the crane would handle it ok but the winch would struggle.

      @@gatewaygarage ive seen videos where people mounted a 1000lb winch at the back of the truck bed then pull stuff up a ramp. but im note sure if the truck tail gate would be able to take the load of the ramp....but again people pull bikes up a ramp sitting on the tailgate..... sometimes you just need someone else with the same mindset! haha. thanks man. i just started the laser cleaning service business out here in Dubai. am currently paying a lot to get it loaded to a pickup with a forklift and then plugging it in customer's main breaker. so thinking about just buying a generator to take on jobs at remote locations.

    What size pulley is it on the end? Looks like a 3 inch? Would a 2 inch work??

    • @gatewaygarage
      @gatewaygarage  Год назад +1

      Yes this is a 3 inch. I dunno why a 2 inch wouldn't work

  • @rjvinton2971

    Do you happen to have links to the parts you added or a parts list. I found the winch and a mounting plate for the winch. Just need to get the other stuff. I suppose a trip to tractor supply would fix that issue lol

    • @gatewaygarage
      @gatewaygarage  Год назад

      I didn't use the mounting plate. I just bolted the winch directly to the crane arm. And the pulley at the end I did find at tractor supply. The electrical plug can be found if you search for a trolling motor plug

      That would have enough power. The crane requires a 50a

  • @notcharles

    Nice work. Curious, do you ever lift with the arm retracted? When pulling that pipe, could you have a) lowered the arm completely, and B) retracted it fully to get a better low-angle pull?

    • @gatewaygarage
      @gatewaygarage  2 года назад +1

      Yeah probably. I usually lift with it extended to overcome the tailgate. If I had something like a tail roll I'd even point the arm toward the cab of the truck and use a snatch block to pull things into the bed. I recently used that method to pull my riding lawn mower up the ramps into the bed of my truck.

  • @vintagerules5207
    @vintagerules5207 Год назад

    winches rating are only with a snatch block witch means without it it will only lift half of the weigh that it’s rated for. That’s why the hoist is rated for 1000 and winch for 2000(1000 without snatch block)

    • @gatewaygarage
      @gatewaygarage  Год назад +1

      You may be right about winch ratings however that is not why the winch is rated double the hoist. They were never intended to be used together by the manufacturer

    • @vintagerules5207
      @vintagerules5207 Год назад

      @@gatewaygarage yes for sure those winches are use in all kind of applications. But just thought I’d mention it. If they would of used a winch that’s only rated for 1000 pound it would only lift 500. Glad I found this video though! Didn’t knew these crane was a thing, shared it with my dad he could definitely use one for hunting

    is it easy to remove temporarily in case you needed the space in the bed?

    • @gatewaygarage
      @gatewaygarage  10 месяцев назад +1

      The crane will slide right off the base if you want but the base would have to be unbolted. I've thought about welding the nuts to the bottom so it's an easier operation but it's really never been an issue. It was slightly harder to load a bed full of hay bales but not enough. I have a stock rack that I am rebuilding to fit between the wheel wells for goats but a full size stock rack might be hard. Otherwise I can still fit a 4x8 sheet in the bed

      Correct nor would harbor freight probably recommend you drill holes in the crane but I just bolted the winch frame to the crane. I actually just picked up a new wireless winch. Maybe I'll do an update video
