    Here are the actual lyrics -- no spelling errors, no omissions, no typos:
    Irene, goodnight;
    Irene, goodnight.
    Goodnight, Irene -- goodnight, Irene;
    I'll see you in my dreams.
    Last Saturday night I got married;
    Me and my wife settled down.
    Now me and my wife are parted;
    I'm gonna take another stroll downtown.
    (chorus)
    Sometimes I live in the country;
    Sometimes I live in town;
    Sometimes I take a great notion
    To jump into the river and drown.
    (chorus)
    Stop rambling, stop your gambling;
    Stop staying out late at night.
    Go home to your wife and family
    Stay there by your fireside bright.

      As far as I can tell he missed the word downtown. All you’ve done is add “(chorus)”, correct “down”, and add unnecessary punctuation and erroneous semi-colons. However, if I were printing copies of the lyrics to my friends to learn harmony I’d print your version. Thank you. From a fellow DW.

    Leadbelly used the lyric "If Irene turns her back on me
    I'm gonna take morphine and die

    As far as I know, this is the only post featuring the original recording featuring The Weavers and the Gordon Jenkins Orchestra that topped the charts for 13 weeks in the summer of 1950. I was five at the time and don't remember the song at all from then, but it's always been with me Thought it just one of those songs everyone knows, like "Oh, Susannah." Never knew it was a big hit. Thanks for posting it -- I've transcribed the lyrics in below post, as many as could fit.

    Oddly the Hank Williams Sr version of this song is gone from RUclips and every other source. It was the best. Wtf?
