Entertainment is good. This is the first time I remember someone mentioning the 2-frame improvement in 8-4, and it's about time. By the way, can I participate in the L+R TAS? I'm interested in doing that as well.
I really like how glitch-compatible the All-Stars version is to the original: flag pole gliches, wall jumps, wrong warps, Koopa hitbox moments. It was a pleasure to watch!
Finally a game I know how to speedrun, I remember back in couple years ago I had this on my PS2 and it was the only game working because you know how PS2 discs go like, and yeah I was playing this one and lost levels
Thanks for the great TAS Kriller and Niftski. Also a question, with the 1-1 FPG, why doesn't Mario go immediately to the right side of the pole like he does in 4-1, 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3?
not the actual reason but if you notice, in the rest of the levels he hits a powerup while in 1-1 he doesn't hit a powerup after coming out of the underground
Question for Sigma Mario God Niftski or anyone who is smarter than me that can answer. I’m not good at any of this mario stuff but like last week I hit that flag pole glitch thing 3 times, but I haven’t been able to do it since. I’m sure i’m just bad at timing it (Though I can almost always hit that sexy frame perfect jump when I’m in the flag pole block). Anyways I was wondering , Am I supposed to let go of left after hitting the jump while inside the block or not? Because I never let go. Cheers. 😅 (It’s 1-1 FPG btw)
What does “re-record count” mean in this context? Were you actually doing these inputs with retries, or were all the inputs typed in? What’s a re-record?
It's like if you were typing with a typewriter, and you could only erase the current letter you're on. If you want to change something back a few lines, you'd need to redo those lines entirely
How high of a bounty should there be for finding a time save in the L+R TAS of the original Super Mario Bros.? That hasn't been found since 2011 if I remember right.
A TAS isn't made automatically, the creator has to decide on every input frame by frame (like a piano roll for example). When it's played back, the inputs are already predetermined so you don't need to "steer" anything
I would assume it's to make getting backwards pole faster. With the normal strat, you have to wait for the mushroom to move a bit in order to get backwards pole.
Should be able to play bk2 on bizhawk & record @ 1080p 60.0988 fps without needing conversions to other formats. I did that for Challenger's TASes on SNES Prince of Persia.
Because the rules for Mario to clear a level and go to the next one are different. In ffpg, Mario touches the flagpole, then falls to the left side and walks into the block at the bottom of the flagpole. In the original game, if you’ve touched the flagpole and then walk into a block, the timer will count down. There is a block in the castle that makes this work. In all stars, this was updated so the countdown only occurs once Mario gets to the castle, instead of walking into a block.

hello niftski
holy heck you are a legend
Time to bring back the 2019 memes of niftski being a tas
I expected this video to end with the TAS screaming "YESS LET'S GO" in a robotic voice
Cmon you don’t have to lie and say its TAS we know its you playing
so true
real
Real
It cant be him playing, i dont hear his screaming at the end xD

I did this just the other night, thank goodness you guys have the recording!

yeah that'd be great, i'd love to have you help out with the tas!
Hi HappyLee
oohhh ma gAaAg
Dude, seeing HappyLee's name on a TAS is always a must-click. You are both actual legends.
@@RetroAchievementHunter Thank you.
Pretty cool TAS dork waffle

Amazing how a TAS for this game could be improved after all these years!
Those Koopa stomps at 2:30 are actually banned under the Geneva Convention
TAS finally gave up on beating Niftski and began cooperating with him instead
Nice TAS! Didn't expect that to be the strat in 4-2
Finally a game I know how to speedrun, I remember back in couple years ago I had this on my PS2 and it was the only game working because you know how PS2 discs go like, and yeah I was playing this one and lost levels
5:03 all i heard is YEEEEESSSSS, YEEEEESSSSS, COME ON BABY YESSSSSSS
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO
Thats what she said
DON'T PASS OUT DON'T PASS OUT.. OH MY GOOOOOD!!!! YEEEEES!!!
Sweet. I wouldn't have guessed that was the quickest way to drop into that warp zone 2:09
Saves like a few frames at most
Oh dang, All Stars is getting closer to my SMB Deluxe RTA Rules TAS
Yeah thats what i wouldva did
If/when Niftski ties the TAS, this will be my comment.
That’s so cool!!!! Good job to you and kriller for making this!
niftski got tired of rta now he's going for tas wrs
just noticed that sm all stars has 2 layers of paralax. where as super mario world only has one.
8-3 FPG was a nice surprise.
still managing the flagpole glitches is insane lmao

Kosmic just made a video (25 June, 2024) to explain why does that, and other things happen on the TAS.
@@forgiveman Thanks for letting me know, I'll check that out in a bit.
i was wondering when Nifitski was gonna break another record, its been what, two weeks since his last one?
i would love a video or even a short explaining the differences between the original and the all stars on speedruns
nice pb
Congrats on your 420th video 😁
I'm missing the LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO at the end lol.
i couldn't tell if it was niftski or a TAS playing if it wasn't for the input display
4:52 IS POSSIBLE!
Nice!

You should start doing full PAL Any% speedruns.
What does “re-record count” mean in this context? Were you actually doing these inputs with retries, or were all the inputs typed in? What’s a re-record?
all inputs were inputted manually frame-by-frame. rerecord is basically just how many times inputs were played back or redone etc.
Yoooo that’s crazy broo
I have a question, if you create and run a TAS, does the character automatically move? Or to what extent does the player have to steer it?
A TAS isn't made automatically, the creator has to decide on every input frame by frame (like a piano roll for example). When it's played back, the inputs are already predetermined so you don't need to "steer" anything
When running the TAS you don't have to do anything
and now gonna go for 4:54 next soon
Crazy stuff
Excellent TAS! Only thing i can't figure out is the purpose of the clip at 3:52. Does it help you get past the Hammer Bro quicker?
I would assume it's to make getting backwards pole faster. With the normal strat, you have to wait for the mushroom to move a bit in order to get backwards pole.
@@TheNoSwearGuyit’s to make timer end in 2
It’s to avoid fireworks
Its crazy that the slowest version is actually the original version
Fr though like every other version has at least a 4:52 possible but NTSC NES is stuck at 4:54
May I have the bk2 please?
Oh snap another moment in history the gen betas will read about in hologram form

Hello Niftski. Are you interested in becoming the 29th person to achieve 5.57 in Dragster?
are the nes tas inputs compatible with all stars?
Thank you for the TAS! Are the normal tricks (FPG, G-Clip, TAS 8-2, etc.) easier or harder in the All-Stars version?
Tas 8-2 isn’t possible because bbg soft locks the game
fpg is the same, 1-2G is a bit different because you have to wait a bit for the plant to go down, bbg softlocks the game
@@Niftski I think he was just asking about the 8-2 framerule in this TAS, not about BBG.
How the heck does this not result in a death?
Crazy run. If only it was actually TAS 😉
I thought the best for this was a 4:53 guess not
Why does an ffpg softlock the game in Super Mario All-Stars?
Because the rules for Mario to clear a level and go to the next one are different. In ffpg, Mario touches the flagpole, then falls to the left side and walks into the block at the bottom of the flagpole. In the original game, if you’ve touched the flagpole and then walk into a block, the timer will count down. There is a block in the castle that makes this work. In all stars, this was updated so the countdown only occurs once Mario gets to the castle, instead of walking into a block.

holy hell
is fpg facing left in 1-1 possible?
Not if you go through the underground section
niftski, how much of this did you play 🤨
Most obviously that 4-2 because of the walljump
0:10.550 5:03.950
cool

I think this proves 4 53 is impossible
he could get this in like 60 attempts
