I test rode a standard one, and its one of my top 5 number one bikes in no order cause its the best of the best amongst perfection for humanly engineering. I can't wait, long wait for a cheaper second hand one for me even if a bit rough and ready with leaking forks no tread and faded paint. It'll be mine as long as I can still ride. I feel for the elderly that have to call it a day cause they cant ride no more :-( safe riding fellow bikers. :-)
@@ianburnett4605 I don't know the top speed, probably 230-240kph lol . It was more about the torque straight off a standing start and it climbs enjoyably in the mid range which does it for me. And the sound, the riding position, my favourite wheels, just everything. And I felt proud to be with it for 15 minutes. I was sad in just a few seconds riding that she wasn't mine to rack up some torque munching road trips. Which I need NOW !!! Lol. Been a year since I've ridden my own bike now. Just the persistent price hikes on everything are hitting me. But I have a dream Ian. :-)... Sorry for butting in if the question was for the other bloke. God bless.
@@ianburnett4605 If you are used to riding a sportbike, it will feel slow although extremely torquey. But you will also find that the need to change gears drastically decreases. It's not about speed on this bike. I think they do mid 11 1/4 mile times around 115mph trap speeds.
Go up a tooth in the front sprocket and cut the air box intake boot down. Then reset the ECU parameters for the mods by going through the idle/tune proceedure.
Wow, sounds amazing. Have been wanting to decat mine and add the x pipe....definitely going to be my next project after watching this. Agree with short pipes, the street twin may have the same engine but Thruxton has more output even without the mods....more like aT120 than the Thruxton
Personally I think the Speed Twin is more usable and therefore a slightly better option ,same engine better riding position, more ergonomic. Good vid tho.👍
I test ride it and unfortunately don’t agree! I have a feeling it’s down to the more forward riding position of mine, or the drama and sound along with the quickshifter. Mine just felt quicker. The speed was super comfy though.
LOOK INTO "NOLOGY COILS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES" ! BETTER AIR FILTER, AND "BALL BEARING " OFF THE "EGR" SYSTEM ! DROP 2-3 THEETH ON REAR SPROCKET ! U NEVER GET OFF THE BIKE !
Paul Harrison it’s not a kit, it’s the shifter only. On their site, at the top go to products, then quickshifter(not kit) and its push type. Then pick up an econoseal plug on eBay.
I own a 2014 triumph scrambler and a 2018 r nine t scrambler. I’d argue the bmw is the best scrambler there is .... noise aside, it beats the triumph thruxton in a lot of departments. 17l tank, 110bhp, way way more comfortable. I’ve decatted mine to open up that classic boxer sound ... I think it’s a fair fight against the thruxton.
Hi I have the 401 and the Thruxton r with the fairing. The 401 with the quickshifter and great engine is faster than the thruxton up to mid range. I do not see yet the famous torque that people says...I have old Triumph 750s bonnevilles and are real good up to mid range. 701 is discontinued due to plenty of errors and no sells.
Yeah I really wish there was a solution for the brakes but I haven’t heard of anything yet. I knew someone who fitted the 4 pot brembo conversion kit from freespirit but they said that the master cylinder wasn’t pushing enough brake fluid through. But you can’t just put any old master cylinder on there because Triumph have their own connectors for the brake light. Sonthe last I heard they were trying to fit the brake lever from a Tiger. So much hassle! And so much £££
MOTOBOB yeah that seems like to much... I’ve not tried the facelift model but heard their Brembo’s are better... I wonder if that would be an easier conversion... 🤔
@@motobob Done it to both of mine now, full gold DID on my 125, now a Black and gold Afam on my ER6f, both with black rear sprocket. Still actually editing the video fitting it.
Loving the Thruxton 1200. Got one non R version in white... I am Thinking about the quickshifter as well. Could you just send me the link where you purchased it? It is plug and play isnt it? Do i need a flashed ECU to apply this Shifter or is the standard ECU ok? Many thanks! Cheers
Hi ,could you ask your Pal if the adjustable foot pegs give enough tyre coverage ,i use my Thruxton for track days and it touches down all the time but it’s to the edge of they tyre . I’ve done Mallory on my Daytona 600 and touched the pegs down so a bit shocked it don’t touch down at Mallory Cheers
Any secrets to getting the NextUp quickshifter to work? I just installed one and it doesn’t work. A guy in the forums says I need an ECU flash from the dealer to enable the AS feature but that doesn’t sound correct to me.
What's a point of up shifter? Never used the clutch on the upshifts, just blip the throttle. Looks like the guy is so far his head light is being used as a screen.
Yep it’s pretty spot on, but I think Wil is looking for something a bit more practical for two up riding and longer distances. I guess it’s not the best from that perspective. Such a nice bike though!
A lovely bike & beautifully modified by Will too. I've been very interested in a Thruxton for a while, but I'm worried by dodgy back might play up on long rides. Interested to hear your thoughts on an LSL handlebar conversion? Or is that just sacrilege?
What about the Speed Twin? Seems like what you're after. Tbh Wil's bike felt pretty comfy for me, but the only way to find out is to test ride one yourself for an hour or two which shouldn't be a problem at most decent Triumph dealers
@@motobob Yes that's what I'm thinking, I'm going to test one whilst my Street Twin is in for recall work. I guess I just prefer the styling of the Thruxton over the Speed Twin.
I like the retro looks and the torque of the engine but man does it just weigh too much, I know it's in part because there's not a single bit of plastic on it as it's all metal but they could have compromised a bit in some areas to reduce the weight. Honestly when I first saw the bike it became an instant dream bike of mine until I rode one and I just hated how the weight was placed on it as it made it feel like a pig rather than a modern sports cafe. If they made one with about 15-20 more hp and reduced the weight by about 30- 40 pounds I think it would be an absolute beast of a bike.
Awesome machine. Question is if and when are you going to change the street twin and would it be the Thruxton, Speed twin or something else? I'd agree, in London, more power than a Street Twin is pretty much pointless unless you like points (on your licence) :)
It's another theme bike by triumph. The original Thruxton is far prettier and engine internals are way different from the original '66 bonnie. It was a race bike. Sounds like a monster, with its induction roar from the amal trumpets and lovely noise from the Thruxton pipes.
I guess I'm missing this... don't see anything special about this one and I always show love... Plus, the reason I didn't get the R is those hideous yellow shocks. What a waste! I have a '16 non R.. aesthetically perfect. Favorite bike I've ever owned.
The nine T out performs, but I personally prefer the looks of the 1200 Thruxton and Speed Twin. I sold my BM as I knew my licence would soon be history. With my Speed Twin, there's a marginally better chance of avoiding a ban. Both great bikes....
I have one of these, and I'm never getting rid of it!

I own one and really enjoy it. Lots of people stop to ask about the bike. Throttle spacers are sold by AJ cycles in the US and do make a difference.

Yeah, probably the only Ducati I'd have. Beautiful bikes!

Yeah the mic didn't even do it full justice. I think I need to invest in a second audio recorder to attach to the back of the bike...

Needs an LED tail tidy like on your street twin!
Good looking bike, especially like the cross pipes and the cans,
