This was the most interesting case!!! I love hearing about things like this even way back into the 1800's and earlier. Please keep them coming!!
Thanks :)
Me too! I was so happy to find this channel. Crimes back then were crazy even more than now. You could get a dose of poison at the drop of a hat ....

Emotional Lovestruck woman, without any career aspirations, had the most amazing barristers ! I'd really like to see the transcript of the trial on how they pulled off her being found not guilty?!
“After a typical long night of drinking and taking cocaine she had decided to return back to her room complaining that she felt cold and unwell. She was discovered later that night half on her bed, half off, with signs of haemorrhage around her mouth. The years of drinking and drug-taking had finally taken their toll.” I looked into her death a little more.
Justice finally was served.
Wow... I wondered how she died... ty...
Thank you. The ending of this fascinating story fell rather short. You filled in the blank.🌞
Thanks! I was wondering what was the cause.
Her being coked up most of the time could explain a lot about her erratic behavior, especially where guns are concerned!
I can't imagine a wealthy powerful English person at this time getting convicted of anything I'm sure the jury enjoyed whatever bribe they were paid
They were probably not bribed. Because of the class consciousness of the period, they probably could not imagine that a young woman of the upper class could do something as sordid as kill her lover. Because he was living off her money, the jury probably considered him a "cad" who might have deserved his fate, Defended by an expensive lawyer, Elvira was given the be benefit of the doubt. Although acquitted, Elvira was probably shunned by High Society because she caused the press to shine a light on the decadent life of the elite.
Thank you BC & Mort . Once again another interesting case . Have a wonderful week everyone .
NOT guilty... Hmmmm seems much like many of the verdict today of the RICH and famous
Yay!! Finally get to catch up on Briefcase! I always miss when you narrate you videos, but he did do a good job.:).
36 rooms! just that is enough to become mad.
🤣🤣
I would have loved it if my father had such a big house . I grew up in a small and cramped apartment always wanting for space . Not everybody who has such a big and spacious house lands up going nuts . The main problem with Elvira was that her parents believed only in pamering and not disciplining their children . Also , she had too much of money to spend without restraint so she did not value anything in life .
Some of these other killers needed a house that large for hiding the bodies.
Ain't that some real shit🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@tapsars7911 I grew up in a moderately rich family for my place, but ended up being extremely depressed by their rules and behavior.
Always hated my life.

Super interesting!!! Thank you for all your hard work to do this for all your fans🖤 Hey, new guy....well done😎 love this channel🖤

Me too, from Queensland
First, I would like to say, this girl really had insecurities. Wonder how she died though.
Second, what is about the British accent? It sounds so proper and smooth. I sure missed you. ❤🌹
I've looked over a few articles on this. It sounds likely that she died from drug use.
Your RUclips channel is excellent and one of my top favorites.
Thankyou so much :)
She sounded unstable and insecure. I think she genuine believed what she was told the jury when she took the stand, which is why she was deemed innocent.
I do wonder what she'd be diagnosed with today.
Borderline personality disorder it sounds like.
Just spoiled...didn't have enough to do...some people need a job...to keep them to busy to only think of themselves. .
@@jojo-ir9um True. Had she been poor, no one would be saying BI POLAR.
if she were a man she would be diagnosed as a "monster" and a pile of bricks would be upon him
@@CajunAdrienne I have BPD and ADHD and never went that far. The worst I’ve done was scream at someone in public. Then again, I’m not a spoiled rich girl and this isn’t the 20s. Also she did so much drugs and drank like a fish so I’m guessing that had a lot to do with it. Her mother could have also drank while pregnant with her and that creates a lot of mental health problems down the line. My dad’s mother drank while pregnant with him and he’s got all four cluster b disorders plus a few and A and C ones and ADHD. He also struggles with substance abuse. Yeah Elvira sounds more and more like a female version of him though I don’t think he’s ever killed anyone, punched and hit yes but not killed.
Wow, she was really messed up. I wonder what caused her early demise.
Welp, the money got her out of a lot of tight squeezes, but no one escapes death.
One of your best videos yet my British friend!!! Excellent video and I love learning about people/stories I have never heard of. Cheers!!!🍻🍻🙏👍

Yet again another clear telling of another very compelling case. Thank you goes to #mortismedia for a great narration of said case. Thanks guys for sharing. x

Hello and thank you again I can't start to go to sleep until I've listened to at least two usually by the end of the second one I'm asleep for which I am very grateful. I must say I absolutely love the cases I do much prefer the voice that usually does the reading the gentleman today on this one is not bad but I just prefer the other voice regardless thank you again you pick the most splendid cases, for me to dive into thank you I hope this lasts for a very long time.
Thanks for listening
I've just been down a Google rabbit-hole to find out what Elvira Barney died of. She had returned from a night on the town intoxicated, and was found in the morning having haemorrhaged from her mouth. She died of a combination of years of cocaine and alcohol abuse.
When a woman is called Elvira trouble is inevitable , same with Igor for a boy, in my school we had 3 Igor, all finished up working with mad scientists reanimating the dead, beware !
Lmao my first name is elvira and this is hella true
Igor is a name a stigma.
I always have to play these videos at 1.5x speed to make the pace of the narration sound normal.
Wow! Amazing case....Thank you...

Hey Glenn man I'm with ya with the getting old shit. I do remember Elvira she was hot to. Some years back I seen her without the wig n makeup and she was still good looking. Peace.
There's an intriguing little footnote to this case. Elvira had a sister called Avril who was married to Ernest Simpson, ex-husband of the notorious Wallis Simpson. So Elvira ended up with a link to the Royal Family, although in a rather roundabout way! The marriage took place after her death, so she never knew about it.
Really very intriguing. I was not aware of this fact .
How does someone marry after their death?!? Lol
Thanks for that. I love these vintage cases. I confess I've heard about very few of them before and I find them fascinating

Mortis and Brief Case? Can we get any better? Awesome story I never heard of! ❤️ She was as neurotic as a poodle!

poodles are neurotic?
Things I've learned the hard way :
1. Never get engaged to a poodle.
2. Never let a poodle have a gun.
3. If a poodle comes from a rich family, it can get away with anything.

These 15 minute crime mysteries are perfect for lunchtime...
Briefcase: "So sit back..."
Me: time for a cup of tea
I was sort of bewildered at one statement that was made about something that happened the night Elvira shot her husband. At her home she gave the police a statement about how the shooting occurred and told the police it was an accident. She then was taken to the station and questioned again and what she told them at the station "confirmed" what she had told them previously. How can one "confirm" her own statement? If she lied once she could certainly lie again. That was a really strange thing to say. If I write a book and put forth a questionable story, I cannot show you ANOTHER book I wrote that says the same thing and say, "See. I told you I was telling you the truth. This CONFIRMS it." No. It doesn't. It may just do nothing more than prove I can keep my lies straight.
I tend to listen to them when going to sleep and I just can't be bothered to read.
"perfect for lunchtime..."

The collaboration between you two was extremely well done!! I was truly on the edge of my seat when during the trial portion, and physically did gasp when they said not guilty. Accidentally woke my room mate up...but still wonderfully done!

Spoilt dilettante. Not the first, and won't be the last.
Great case, and so tragic. I would highly suspect she suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder.
I would have liked to hear more about what the authorities’ opinions were as to her cause of death.
Yep, my first thoughts is Borderline P D
I have it and I think the same, not cause of people suffering from it are inherently violent, but because of the lack of resources for people like that back then
Also she was filthy rich and sheltered, sure that didn't help
I have BPD and I was thinking the same thing
I'd say a spoiled brat. Some people are just bad..

They call breaking up with a crazy woman instead of marrying her "dodging a bullet".
Poor guy tried but only delayed the inevitable. 🙄
A classical example of money not bringing happiness. If only the money spent on lawyers had been invested into psychologists, she might have had a happier life. Dunno if she was guilty or not but she apparently had a ton of issues, and it really makes one wonder why her allpowerful rich parents hadn't actually done something.
Wow, she got away with murder. If you "come from money", you can do that.
This one was a bit odd. Wasn't expecting the "not guilty" twist at the end. I'm so use to Cases narration style, I might've been a tad thrown off because of it.
Jessica Fain They usually end with a swift hanging.
@@DIANAS5657 So true.☠️🖤
I saw photos of Elvira Barney from the time of her trial to around the time of her death. She had put on weight and looked quite a bit older than she actually was. Her wild living had come back to haunt her. This is what happens when you spoil your children rotten and give them no brakes. In Elvira's case, it was obviously combined with some sort of mental illness. I really don't know if she was responsible for what she did. She seemed to have a child's outlook on life. I don't believe she understood there were consequences for her actions. I'm reminded of a story told by actor Rip Torn about a veteran actor, who got into a real life barroom brawl. The man broke a bottle in an attempt to use it as a weapon. He didn't realize there was a difference between real bottles and prop bottles and ended up cutting off his own thumb. I don't think Elvira realized she was actually going to kill Michael. In her own mind, she was probably acting out a part and everyone would be fine once the curtains went down.

IKR. This channel always has some of the best fill-in hosts of any channel out there.
I think she was given too much by her family. She thought she could do want she wanted and get away with it. She was a member of the upper class, unlike Ruth Ellis, who was a working class girl.

Talk about separation anxiety. She was one sick woman. Instead of jail she belonged in a sanitarium! Of course the access to money would have gotten her out from there too. God took her away so no one else could be harmed by her.
For much of all of us who would like to know how Elvira passed away this is what I found however I do not know if this is confirmed or not please read below.
she was found dead in a Parisian hotel room. After a typical long night of drinking and taking cocaine she had decided to return back to her room complaining that she felt cold and unwell. She was discovered later that night half on her bed, half off, with signs of haemorrhage around her mouth. The years of drinking and drug-taking had finally taken their toll. FYI Found on murderpedia
