- Let's unbox and test some of the most EXPENSIVE drawing tools I've ever purchased! These are Bandai's Body-kun and Body-chan drawing figures. They come in gray, black, and peach and I've been having a lot of fun playing with them.
These are my initial thoughts and feels about the models. I may write a blog post or future video about them with a more in-depth review after I've had a chance to play with them for a bit and test them out. Let me know what you think in the comments. Would you buy something like this?

Monster high dolls are are very similar to these just way bigger. Like, alot bigger. But besides that they are kinda the same thing and are cheap-ish

I bought a grey male and female figure several months ago. The female had a broken arm inside the box. I contacted the company five times and they never replied. And I like your hair!

Yeah, mine too. They sent second one after a complaint. Try again, but then, they are not really worth it. Maybe kun, but chan is awful.
Probably got knock offs...S.H. Figuarts makes some of the best high end toys/figures and are heavily knocked off. It is a Japanese company and if you buy on eBay and you’ll see many sellers use the authentic pictures and a China country of origin at a much cheaper price...it’s a knockoff. They usually come with a holograph sticker on the box to show authenticity when they’re real.
You keep saying they're so *E X P E N S I V E* but you never actually state how much they costs?
The cheapest I found was 18.99 and that was on ebay. The most expensive I found was amazon for 27.
Brittney Oh wow. That’s actually pretty cheap for that kind of ‘doll’. If I’m correct, then that’s the same brand that makes Figma Dolls which range from 40-100+.

I got a set and paid $25 dollars for each. I have to say I’m VERY disappointed with them. The female figure is particularly badly made - her arm keeps falling out, one knee joint is different to the other and she has two right feet. They came in the same packaging as yours with the same bits and pieces. However, I have read online that GENUINE ones have a hologram on the box - yours didn’t and neither did mine so I think we were both ripped off.

I just got an idea for you!You should do a video where you draw fans in their art style's, or draw something in your fans style's. Hopefully you get what I mean...Like so she can see please!? :-D
These figures are super neat, tho if you buy them, be aware that they can come with a LOT of small (and some bigger) flaws.
For example this is a list of flaws/faulty parts on the Body-kun I bought:
- one wrist joint keeps coming apart and has limited movement. Because of this, exchanging the hands is very hard and I am often afraid to do it at all because I feel like I might break something
- one elbow joint was built in upside down which results in the elbow moving in the right direction but at the wrong point so the arm always looks disproportionate if bent. I tried fixing it but the joints are riveted, so there's nothing you can do about it
- one knee is loose and won't stay in pose
- one leg is longer than the other
- one foot is nearly immoveable
- the head keeps popping off at the slightest movement
- I keep having to fasten the screws on the stand like every other day because the become loose immediately
In day to day use, those things just add up and quickly become annoying to have to work around all the time. Tho I still like using the figure for hard to figure out poses. It's helped me a bunch of times, tho I gotta say I wouldn't buy the figure again. I'd honestly rather spend more than 25 bucks (which is what I paid for this one) and get a more high-quality figure instead.

Yeah, the -Chan models have a much shorter range of motion. They’re also less solidly constructed. Really, if you’re just using them to think up poses and shot composition and/or reference rather than actually tracing with them, you’re better off just sticking to -Kun models and adjusting for body type.

Echo, I hate to tell you this (and I haven't checked the comment section if others have) but your Body Chan is not good, I have one and she is as sturdy as your Body Kun, that's what it's supposed to be like, also, you can move her shoulders so she puts her hands up, but it's risky because the joint might pop out. It's a biatch to get back in. I'm glad you're happy with them though, I love mine, she is lovely.

you can get these for under £5.00 in any craft shop in the UK, they're very cheap and good quality.
( by the way these are different real natural wood ones in the UK craft stores )

Echo, you mean so much to me. This is all gonna sound pretty weird but I guess weird is why I found your channel(s). Most of this is in reference to the mental health videos. I watched them, and I actually cried, I felt what you were saying because I’ve done it too. But it made me think about when it happened to me, I truly wanted to die. But then I hear you talking about it and I realize how flippin sad I would be if you thought the same. You are such a source of strength for me and I know I’m not the only one. Hey there. Got those because of your video to try drawing with them. Female figure can't hold her arms up. They just fall down instantly, unless lifted really high. Do you have any idea how to fix those?
Thank you for this! I've just recently started working on humans. I've been drawing / paining animals for years. So with tutorials from RUclips, I've been working on drawing humans. I recently heard about these new body chan / kun figures and have been on the fence about getting them, because as you said, expensive!! I was close to getting wooden ones, but they look tacky and kinda really basic. Since I'm teaching myself, I figured I would look into these types you showed off. So thank you again! I think I will look more closely into getting some!

I went to Barnes and Nobels a few days ago and found like five gray body chans for 15 dollars each. They didn't have any body kuns, but they did have one other body chan that was black for 15 dollars also.

I really like these Body Kun model figurines. I use it regularly in my drawings and it is the best way to create character drawings with proportioned body, head and chest measurements. I love your unboxing and the drawings you really make alive on paper! I love it and recommend it. Nice day! :)

Oh Im glad someone posted videos of these figures, I have the male one and I absolutely love it but the female one I had was from Max Factory, I do not recommend Max Factory, her joints literally snapped with little usage. Reason I never got the female body kun (Bandai) was before I thought the proportions looked way off from the pictures online but seeing it actually used I realize the pictures did it no justice, it seems relatively fine with the proportions so this definitely helps me decide whether if I want to put out the money to get the female.
Imo tho I love the male one I have and certainly the best 50 bucks I've put out for an art tool.

This is great! As a action figure collector it’s so exciting to watch her discover how awesome toys have gotten lol.
As far as some of her issues go, they all seem like quality control issues.
Bandai's still doing these from time to time, in fact just a month before this video, they released new revamped models of Body-kun and Body-chan with anatomy based on two popular artists who are known well known in doing bishonen and bishoujo artworks and manga. Then again, these first models were pretty much discontinued and people were hunting them down to use as base bodies for kitbash projects, hence leading them to have high aftermarket values.
If anyone's interested in these both of them are available online for about 23-25$ for one of the figures

They are sh figuarts the same company who makes the DBZ figures line. Which are WAY more expensive, but they are totally worth it for the level of quality detail and articulation for each figure also I feel like the female figure she received may actually be a bootleg because official ones are not as loose or shiny plastic. Plus the quality would be the same with both figures. I could be wrong but i know they are a bunch of bootlegs for this kind of thing out there. Even for the DBZ ones so I recommend if you ever plan on buying these of sh figuarts (name of the figure line) do your research on them to make sure you buy an official one.

Teaa you don’t have to I have a few myself as an artist and bought these but the more Romanesque version you can find rather cheap up to only 13 dollars and you don’t have to buy from eBay.

These are definitely still available. If you look up the company that makes them Max Factory / Figma you'll see them based on real characters too, just the nude base models.

Hello There Polymer clay is a bad idea. You have to bake it lol, you can't bake plastic or wood.
Armando Hernandez try polymorph instead all you would have to do is use hot water.
Hello There try sculpting epoxy, it dries rock hard, is super strong and doesn't need to be baked.

Hi, do you think these are a better option than the 3d model found in Manga 5/ Clip Studio. I’ve only just picked Clip Studio up on my iPad and it’s awesome and believe me the 3d figures are a super luxury.

Shelby Kirk I recommend not buying chinese knock offs since they are cheaper for a reason. They tend to be of lower quality and the movement is more stiff. If you don’t mind this, then go ahead and buy the knock off, but as an artist I personally prefer the authentic version :)
I bought the 'knock off' versions too, I think. But I'm 100% happy with them - no complaints. I've had them for maybe a year now and I regularly work with them and nothing has broken. With toys like these, the counterfeits aren't a situation of a company buying a toy off the shelf and saying, 'Copy this as best you can and we can make money.' Often what happens is the factory that's producing the legitimate product will also produce the 'bootlegs.' When they're running the machines, they just run off extra and sell it themselves. I don't know for sure that's what happened with these but I would guess that's the case.
Daniel Robinson Bought mine from the brand Figma. They look just like the expensive one I have, there is zero difference on the model or quality. And only using 5 dollars on the model and using the 30 dollars on something else is nice.
Mind blow!!!! I thought I were going to draw a sketch from the models then import it to your computer system...but when u took a photo of the pose and worked off your photo to start your drawing ...made total sense. I am a traditional ‘paper artist’ and just transitioning to computer software and graphics..... figures/proportion always tough for me to get the base down....these simple steps skipped...inspired ....mind blown. New subscriber. XO

The girls can move less even though irl girls are usually more flexible
I have these models and the female figure does have more range in her shoulders, the only thing is that you have to do is to push the shoulder guard type things further into the socket. They pull out further or go inwards to offer different range in motion as well as to offer a slouch look.

I think they are overpriced.
I did a mini reveiw/comparison with those and the figma archetype. The figmas are cheaper and SO GOOD QUALITY compared to the body-kun/body-chan.
Especially my body-chan is so cheaply made (like yours I think).
The figma archetypes don't come with the accessories but it's easy to make some with some thick paper.

I honestly hope people do more digging on these, after doing a bit myself i found that these specific ones are really commonly coming in broken and defects, not to mention some missing parts

I bought one of these about a year ago and I was honestly super disappointed, the manufacturing was terrible, the arm completely fell apart and the joint was damaged. I honestly don't think they are worth the price

On mobile there is an app called easy poser, it's pretty similar to the body models but the limbs can be a bit awkward to work with. It's mostly free.

I got 2 gray female figures and one gray male one. One came from the website itself while the other two came from Amazon. Also got a whole set of various extra weapon pieces. They're really worth the money. I used to hate drawing full body characters with a passion but they make for really good practice.
