Congratulations on the award, Mike! The book looks great, sir. So well done…. The world is so intriguing, I love the different environments
Thank you!!
that book is a beauty; congrats again on the well-deserved award!
Thanks dude!
Beautiful like the liner notes of a metal album. Interesting layout and color choices…and inspiring!
Thanks so much! I dig the finished vibe of it so much. When you are writing a manuscript, you have images in your mind of what the layout might end up looking like, and it’s so fun to see the plain text I wrote spring to life in ways that I didn’t expect or imagine.
Congrats on the award Mike! I hope it helps to springboard these excellent rules and get people playing them.
this video randomly popped up when I opened youtube and, while I'm not that much into miniatures, the book looks beautiful, I love that art and the style in which it's structured, looks really good
Thank you! I’m really proud of what the four of us on the team made together. Also: ALL HAIL THE ALGORITHM!
@@planetsmashergames The algorithm also fed me this; I click on perhaps one recommended video a month, so I think that's a testament to what a good job you did with this video. The title and thumbnail ooze honesty and enthusiasm, and I'm amazed at how little the video felt like "here's why you should buy my thing" and how much it felt like "holy shit, this thing is so cool and I'm excited to have it and want to share that feeling with you". That's a really tough tone to navigate and you nailed it.
Awesome! Thank you so much!
To be a fan of miniature gaming but to make it better that one of my favourite artists worked on your game just makes this even better!
CROM is so rad. I love Raiders.
@@planetsmashergames Birdking too is just amazing.
Can’t wait to get hold of my copy!
Looks amazing. I’m not a rank&flank aficionados, but what a piece to get on a bookshelves.
The rulebook looks great! Well done on the accolades!
Thanks dude!
Congratulations! I´m looking forward to trying this out. Best of luck on the promotion side bro!
Congratulations on the award :D
That looks loverly, see you at UKGE
Cheers! Yeah, come hangout a spell.
The book is a work of art Mike.
Thanks my dude! ❤️
Holy moly. This is so awesome.
Is pretty.
Great looking book. Congrats on the physical prints as well. I'll have to pick it up.
So great to see the physical version!
Looks great, looking forward to getting my hands on it!
Damn! That is one nice looking book! Great work
as a swede, reading these names is pretty funny. They sound way more epic with english pronounciation! book looks really good also!
Haha, my rolled-Rs aren’t up to scratch! Glad you like the look of the book.
Incredibly stylish. Nice work.
Greg and CROM brought the heat!
Congrats!
Nice! can't wait for this one to hit my mail box. I believe I am a late backer on this one. I didn't think I would ever want another rank n flank game until looked into this one, perfection! minus the one little spelling error, lol.
Cheers!
whohoo congrats
Hell yeah, big congrats my man!!!
Thank you dude!!!
@@planetsmashergames The book is gorgeous
Great stuff, Mike! Can't wait to lose myself in that world 😄
😁
Are you aware HOBGOBLIN is the name of an old horror novel where a teen plays a RPG called Hobgoblin?!
I was not! Off to google it!!
I am not a mini-war gamer, but I got curious about the world/realm lore. Once you expand on it, please write an RPG lore book.
Thanks! I’d love to explore it more in the future.
Looks pretty awesome 😍. If I ever manage to build & paint 2 army-sized forces, it'll be first on my list of rules to try. This and Saga Age of Magic.
Age of Magic is awesome. Very different to Hobgoblin, but very slick.
@@planetsmashergames Cool. I like real differences between games.
Hey
I really like Hobgoblin - I think the rules are excellent and are so far very underrated by the broader community. They're very very clever
My question is: Have you ever considered doing something 'Similar' for 'Space Fantasy' (Ie 40k?)
What I mean by this is simplifying the rule system a bit but also bringing in a lot of more modern concepts in design.
Just interested. It's something I try and houserule sometimes but I don't have your background in design!
Ty
Hey Ollie! It’s a fine and excellent question. I have ideas, but nothing fully formed yet.
For a sci-fi thing, a la 40k, I wouldn’t start from Hobgoblin as a base, as the game would need to feel so different. In particular, the key challenge would be how to make lots of shooting unit interesting, as that’s not trivial!
@@planetsmashergames Oh interesting.
I think one of most interesting things about Hobgoblin is that Magic and 'Strategy' use the same 'action resourse' which allows armies to be either lead be Sorcerer Lords or mighty leaders, but still compete. It's a very neat way to solve the problem of how to include magic or psychic powers without them dominating the game.
That would be fun to see in a 40k related thing.
Yes shooting is hard! In some ways you need to have an idea of the game size and format of armies you are aiming for (2000 points, 30-40 models of Marines?), and then work back from there!
Love the content.
Best wishes from a fellow Brit!
Oh, thanks. Yeah, that’s a great observation. My happy place happens to be around 1000 points, sort of 4-7 units/vehicles, so I can imagine optimising for that sort of scale.
I think having a chaotic and unpredictable battlefield is also an interesting space, a bit like I did in A Billion Suns, (or a 40k game with lots of deep strike) with strategic placement being important and not just two battlelines.
What ‘s the intro song called? Nice work btw!
It’s an original piece that my lil’ brother wrote for me! So I guess “Official Planet Smasher Theme”? 😄
@@planetsmashergames Bestest intro on YT! Make it longer ;-)
Is there a breakdown of the interior artists for the landscapes?
Sure! The illustrations were done by CROM, Sean Sutter, with The Forge Studios doing the landscapes and Domenico Cava doing the map.
Wait. Are we out of the preorder period
Not quite, but as the author, Electi sent me some stock to sell at UKGE and I couldn’t help but share a flipthru!
Solo? In a rank and flank game? 🤔
A lot of my playtesting was solo, so I had the rules written and figured… Sure, why not include them!
Congratulations Mike, just looked at getting a company of the rules + cards from the website and its saying $75 for delivery to UK.
Please tell me you have a UK distributor?
Electi do, yes, they are just in the final stages of getting things sorted for UK/EU.
It’s only $10 shipping if you are in the UK? Not sure why you are seeing $75? I don’t see that.
@@planetsmashergames I thought so. I now have a reason to go to UKG in a week.
@planetsmashergames for the book $40 + $14 cards = $54
Plus $11 VAT
Postage to UK via Royal mail $10.
Giving the total $75.
Seen as you are at UKG and a friend playing in the Conquest Tournament, I may pop up Friday. If I can get off work..
I honestly don't like the destruction nor how long that intro is. Gives me flashbacks of how my cousins and other kids played with their toys and broke them all. smashing them together and throwing them... Meanwhile at home we treated our toys like precious treasures to play out our stories with. I still have a box of toys in my parents house with action figures from when I was 7 years old. So, I'm sorry but I tend to skip the intro every time.
No problem, sorry it brings back unfavourable memories. Please, skip away.
I agree. Planets are one thing but wilfully destroying minis or even dice is beyond the pale.
Except D4s, but those guys fight back…
I always watch the intro! The smashing is the best part!
Just wanted to say intro kills it!!!!!! Great content
