I need help getting the Armor Pass to get to the Isle of Armor please, I want to at least get there so I can Gigantamax my Inteleon, Cinderace and Rillaboom. I'm playing Sword.
Eh, more like you stop in place to think about how far we have gone, versus time and space that doesn't matter except keep going until the whole universe implodes in the year 3000 or the year 8000/10000....Who knows.
I genuinely cannot believe this game is 5 years old. I remember playing it and enjoying it back in the day it was one hell of a game. I also live in the UK and I enjoyed the gameplay.
I know this is pretty unpopular judging by the other comments, but man I did not enjoy these games. I recently replayed all pokémon games that I own and I just ended up not finishing pokémon sword because I simply couldn't stand playing it. I Don't own that many pokémon games, only Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Let's go Pikachu and Legends Arceus. I used to have black 1 and 2, but I lost it a couple years ago, no idea how. They are BY FAR my least favorite games I own. Not just pokémon games. I don't like a single thing about this game other than a couple character designs. Those being Nessa, Ryan, Toxtricity, Corviknight, those hat witches and the Impidimp line. Maybe I forgot one, but yeah, that's about it. The only other positive I have is that it's easy to get into competitive, but i do not care about playing competitive, let alone for my least favorite game. 10/10 it has a little something for everyone.
The games are different enough that if sw/sh doesn't appeal to you, none of the people here (including me who considers it my favourite) should criticise you.
Nah I totally agree. I have a lot of grievances with modern Pokemon, and even through the performance mess that is Scarlett and Violet, I can still feel the fun and magic of Pokemon behind it all, except sword and shield. They were just absolutely soulless
Everyone hated Sword and Shield, but compared to what we got with Scarlet and Violet (being a buggy mess with extremely low framerate CONSTANTLY), it wasn't even nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I know I have very fond memories of playing it. And if I'm being honest, quite a few of the Galar Pokemon are on my favorites list.
Sword and Shield were just victims of the exact same treatment Scarlet and Violet are getting now. Older fans will complain how Pokémon is going downhill while the younger ones enjoy the newer games but don't have a way to voice their opinion. Unpopular opinion, but Scarlet and Violet were not that bad. I had a lot of fun playing them. The only critisms I have were what you just mentioned. They were very glitchy and had terrible graphics. But they also had a lot of really cool Pokémon and probably one of the best stories in the franchise to date. If they had just gotten more time to be properly developed, they could have turned out so much better.
@@deviousangel336 Older fan here. I was there when Pokemon Red and blue came out. Started playing Pokemon Shield for the first time today. It's quite good! Considering I've played Violet recently. I've also played Legends Arceus and Shining Pearl. Both great games ....but all of which are much better than Scarlet/Violet. Honestly....Shield is really good.
@username_redacted_1987 I'm glad to see someone else agree! Shield was one of my first Pokémon games ever, so I have a ton of nostalgia for it. I remember playing it as a little kid with my brother and watching him struggle on Bea and Leon because he didn't understand that you should Dynamax at the end of the fight instead of the beginning 🤣
I think scarlet and violet are one of the best in my opinion i get the graphics and glitch stuff but scarlet and violet are still really fun they just need to stop it with releasing in so little time and so many games@@username_redacted_1987
I agree as well Pokemon Sword and Sheild has much better graphics then Scarlet and Violet… I had recently gotten Sheild after watching Zackscotts gameplay of Sword though I decided to go for Sheild but overall I think Sheild is much better than Scarlet and Violet I just like the story a bit better is Scarlet/Violet along with the Charaters But I’ve grown to love some of the Charaters as well on Sheild
I just replayed Shield within the last week. I was shocked how short the game actually was, and how easy it was. I nuzlocked it using a Sun based team in less than 19 hours with only 3 deaths. The routes are super linear and most of the towns are forgettable, but the Glimwood Tangle and Ballonlea are absolutely beautiful and always a visual treat.
Really ? Have you looked the cities in scarlet and violet ? I played it two years ago and I can’t remember one single good city that left any impression on me Hammerlock forgettable ? An entire city designed as castle with dragon head as gate Bro if sword and shield are forgettable then what gen have iconic or very way to be remembered cities ? Cause by far x/y and sword and shield have the best cities in the franchise hands down Name to me one good city in s/v I will be waiting
@samggh-tu2rv I didn't mention Gen 9 at all because this isn't a Gen 9 video but if you insist, Levincia was pretty. I agree Hammerlocke had potential to be amazing, but the inside of the gym/ gym challenge was a total dud, made the the thing feel unfinished.
@Nickat-fk8ud I’m talking from design standpoint Despite the difficulty of the gym challenge or the content in the city For me and I’m gen1er my first console was gameboy in the 90’s I still think sword and shield had the best cities ever It’s no contest The only one that would come close to that is x/y Yeah I think x/y have much cooler region overall , better routes and near cities areas like shores and wild areas But cities design nothing would top sword and shield imo Hammerlock even the gears ⚙️ ⚙️ city was mad cool
@@samggh-tu2rv Unova was designed beautifully in my opinion, the changing seasons, Castelia and Nembasa were stunning, the five bridges. I love X&Y too, Lumiose might be my favorite city in Pokemon.
i remember shiny hunting for xerneas in dlc 2 and one day i was just like "this is pointless" and havent touched the game since lol, and no i never got that shiny xerneas.
I think this game had sm potential if they didnt make y pay 40$ for the post game, i like how in sun and moon they just made a whole different game option instead of HAVE TOO buy this dlc to get this pokemon
Just yesterday I started a new savefile in pkmn sword and I really like it. Although I really had fun with scarlet, especially the DLCs were really frustrating as it felt like none of the performance issues were fixed and many problems were added, with sword it feels so much better just to play the game, having only a few frame issues here and there (e.g. the wild zone) and I prefere this games art style. For me it fits perfect for a pokemon game. If I could, I only would add some of the texturing and effects of the pokemon from scarlet/violet, e.g. the metallic shine of some pokemon. Great video. I agree witj most of your points, especially with dexit (although I think this was made into a greater issue than it really should be).
I've been a Pokémon Go player for years. I finally played Violet and loved it. I was hesitant based on all the hate, but now I'm playing Sword and having a blast. Obviously I'm sure expectations/timing plays a lot into it, but if you're on the fence, give it a try.
I think that's fair - honestly it's best to always draw your own conclusion or use a combination of reviews and fan reception to see try decide on getting a game!
I love sword and shield so much. I grew up on the 3ds, so when Sword and Shield came out and I was 13 at the time, it felt like such a leap up from USUM. I'm turning 18 this year and revisiting these games with so much joy. They will forever go down as my favorite
@@ThePokemonx7 hehe how bout gbc, gba and ds era. I've been since beginning of series and to me up to gen4 was golden era. Didn't play any after and tried out Violet. Let's just I was deeply disappointed.
Played Pokemon Scarlet, Shining Pearl, Arceus, Let's Go Pikachu and now Shield, honestly, compared to Scarlet and SP, aesthetic wise and gameplay wise I'm enjoying Shield. Glad I never listened to the punks hating the game.
I think its always better to experience the Pokemon game yourself and draw your own conclusion for sure. When Sword and Shield was new it was the most recent punching bag so got a lot of hate. As a game I think its really good.
Depends on what you are looking for - I feel Legends is a better game. But it isn't a traditional style Pokemon game. Traditional game id go sword or shield - best game legends Arceus imo.
I don’t understand people’s frustration with Dexit, honestly a big part of the fun when playing the new games for me is looking at all the new pokemon and forming a viable team out of them. I understand loving the older mons, emerald was my first game and Sceptile will always have a place in my heart, but I don’t want to just use the same team in every new game that comes out, at that point I really am just playing the same game over and over. Not to mention it makes completing the pokedex a lot easier since 300 and something mons are a lot more manageable than almost 1000 overall at this point.
I think it was framed as trying to produce quality instead of quantity but it's not come across like that, especially with the performance issues and graphical problems we got in Generation 9 which has driven the frustration for Dexit. I agree with you for sure - I think it's better to focus on a smaller amount and make it manageable than a 1000 and it be unmanageable.
I am currently playing sword rn for my first time ever and I love it! For some reason it seems to be in better condition the violet is? Mayb more time was spent on working on sword then the current game which is odd
Month old comment but how are you finding it? I've been wanting to play sword and shield for the first time but it feels weird picking up a 5 year old game when s/v is out. I'm so torn between the two
The last game I had before getting sword recently which took me 5 years after it came out since i didnt have a switch till now was pokemon Sun and I didnt like it to much but ever since I picked up Sword I got hooked again to pokemon I like it a lot cause it has features I would have wanted years ago and yes I am a veteran since Pokemon Blue and Red
Sword and Shield were the first pokemon games I've fully skipped, and not really because of Dexit. I'll be real, I never was *that* angry at Dexit, even though a lot of my favorite pokemon were axed, I at least was willing to give them the chance to go through with their promise of better animations for it. The issue I have with Sword and Shield is the sheer laziness that the games are coated in. There are so many pokemon moves where the models just move left and right, up and down, etc. and this is AFTER their claim of better animations for it! As if that's not bad enough, you have the grid locked movement in cutscenes (just take a look at Zacian/Zamazenta's movement in overworld cutscenes.) and a region design that would make Kanto complain about how linear it is. Sword and Shield have a lot of problems, but the biggest thing that I personally hate them for is the same one that I hate X and Y for. They sold so fucken well despite that all. They have so many issues, bad performance and more bugs than you could point a finger at, and yet they were second only to Red and Blue in terms of sales. Games that were much better and had more quality to them...for this.
Yeah as someone who lives in the UK the concept is super cool, reminds me of how excited I was when Forza 4 came out as that's also based on the UK, but I've never played sword and shield. I want to though, I'm still deciding between this or s/v, since it seems strange to buy a 5 year old game before the latest release. If anyone has any input let me know, I think I'm leaning towards s/v but man I'd love to play this game at least once
A fellow Brit!! I didn't know Forza 4 was based on the U.K. despite playing it. Dependant on DLC which one to go for in my opinion. Both have interesting DLC, as games I prefer Sword and Shield. But you wouldn't be going wrong with S/V either (despite the issues it has)
I wish they added something like a battle frontier just like emerald! It makes the game more interesting to go after more than just badges and the pokemon league
TheGamer suggests Ballonlea is based on Sherwood Forest. I think it might be based on Wistman's Wood, as Sherwood is too far North and East. Going purely by geography, it would be closer to Bristol.
I'm just getting around to the Switch Pokemon games now after completing the pokedex of every game on the DS and 3DS years ago. Moved every single pokemon from the DS to the Switch with Bank/Home. I've started with Sword. The main story portion of the game is too linear, too short and too easy but I'm enjoying it now that I'm doing post game and dlc. I think I'll go with Let's Go next, then BDSP, Legends: Arceus, and finish with Scarlet/Violet.
That's a good order! I think Let's Go is alot of fun, I think Legends Arceus is the best one we've had on the switch so far so I highly recommended that
After the greatest pokemon game HG/SS the last one i complete and the games before them, Coming back to S/S was pokemon as remembered it. A traditional story of become champion, i liked the story about zacian and his brother saving galar from destruction, Hop was a cool company through the story. However i can understand the disappointment of the completionist who live by the mojo "catch them all". I finished the main story, then another playthrough with dlc and the overall taste fir me is it was cool game. Not to mention im a die hard football fan and to be inspired this gsme by football was a nice touch.
Bro tbh I'm doing my first playthrough of Sword, im a HGSS guy that's my favorite, BUT I played Scarlet recently and loved how easy shinies were to get but I don't like the battles and the world really, BUT DUDE I am LOVING Sword it's gotta be my 2nd favorite pokemon game behind HGSS
I loved pokemon sword I always grew up with 3d, I'm currently currently replaying it. Some pokemon from my OG playthrough (like my shiny) will go to my Violet save in a special box :)
Recently got this game, (15/11/24) and i just beat it with 23hours of game, i feel empty, i guess i just complete all the pokedex excepting for exclusives now, tho tbh i miss interacting with the characters 😿
I wasn't fan of this game at the begining. When they revealed it I was hyped. Region based on GB? how cool is that! But when they showed dynamax, removed megas and added to much football theme, my hype was fading. Whole stadium of people watching you battle was something, but I hate these uniforms. I still had fun playing it! This gen introduced one of my favourite Pokemon till this day like Dragapult, Centiskorch or Zapdos. I wish starters were more monsterlike and not that humanoid. I really like the vibe and aesthetics of overworld (except Wild Area). Pokemon Camp was better feature than Sandwiches for sure. DLC improved my second playthrough as a Bug Type gym leader and by that time I had so much fun with these games. They really grew on me. They needed more polish for sure. If Sword and Shield had Story as good as in SV then they would be much better games. Sw/Sh suffer from bad story or I should say, not developed enough story. But they have good potencial for replayability due to fast progression.
God, this game is SO much prettier and cleaner than Scarlett and Violet. I can't bring myself to play those games, as the graphics and rendering look like a flaming hot mess. I repurchased Shield after playing through Sword and plan on buying the DLC. Excited to play this gem again and it was personally one of my favorite games, alongside Pokemon Red/Blue and X/Y
S/V does have its positives in my opinion - but the graphical/performance issues are very frustrating so I can see why you can't bring yourself to play them
I played Red back on the GameBoy and skipped a few games, didnt get to play a Pokemon game til X/Y and Sun/Moon ... I recently started to play Sword/Shield and I dont get why it gets so much hate, the game is amazing! I wanted to play Arceus or Scarlet but those games look awful in terms of aesthetics and performance ... maybe the Switch 2 gives them a bit of power to work with? But from what I have seen, I did the right thing on picking Shield instead of the most recent two games.
Performance is a big issue for SV, the graphics I'm not too fazed about as much, Legends Arceus performs well and I think it's a great game. A stronger console would definitely help but I think time to make the graphics better is also needed
0:23 I don’t think this really indicates much, console sales are always going to eclipse software. Pokémon is definitely still strong a strong growing brand… Gen 8 selling 6 mil first weekend and 9 doing 10 mil in 3 days on one platform is still insanity.
i forgot that this game came out 5 years ago but then i remember i got it at release in late elementary school and now im in my junior year of high school
I liked the DLC of gen 8, as much as I wasn't a fan of the base game. But even with my gripes about the emptiness of the wild areas, at least it played smoothly (from what I remember). When I played SV on launch, the performance issues were so bad that I was getting an actual headache from it. Playing it again 3 months ago, it's still really bad. I'll be honest, SS isn't an amazing Pokemon game, but I don't think it's bad with DLC. It's pretty middling without DLC though. Edit: forgot my manners, good video, I think you hit the nail on the head with this topic.
Off topic but the worse part of sv is they didn’t take advantage of what was achieved in arceus they didn’t improve graphics from swsh outside of Pokemon models and the performance failed so they didn’t learn anything from the experience up to that point
I loved the games the anime style graphics is what i always wanted Pokémon to look like and the colors were beautiful and the battle dynamics were good seeing lighting in the background of a storm in the middle of a battle nice it did have is flaws like you said it didn't feel complete until the dlc's which made them feel like that should've been the game in the first place and not being able to get Eterarus second form why!!? Game freak come on lol
I still love wordand shield the 1 thing I like better than scarlet and violet is that they at least have about facility in scarlet and violet there is really no such equivalent.
Believe me when I say, this was my first Pokemon game. About a year ago my brother managed to anger my mom for reasons. And in response she permanently confiscated his Switch, and later that she told me that his switch was now mine. Shield was included (alongside his others games lol) so I decided to hop on it. Considering this was my first Pokemon game, I really liked it XD.
@@rivalryyyy I gave scarlet a little go when I went to relative’s house but I only played it for like 5 minutes. I don’t know if I should get it or is there another pokemon game coming out?
I bought the game but never played til a month ago I thought it was fun but my buddy bought me violet so we could raid together..before that I haven’t played since pearl so almost 20 years
Unova Pokemon designs is horrid Literally the worst in the franchise hands down More than half of the Pokemon as good as non existent Worst starters line up of all times Worst normal type of all times Worst route 1 bird of all times If that wasn’t enough it also have the most disliked Pokémon’s in the series The elemental monkeys Sword and shield almost have no bad designs at all
I remember getting sword and shield for Christmas 2019, it’s a good game, finished the game in like feb/march 2020 before covid lockdowns. I got the Nintendo switch in 2017, so I had no Pokémon games for it 😅 until let’s go. Btw great video
I think gen 8 will be the next kalos People didnt really like kalos when it first came out but now they love it I think in say 10 years time people will look back on galar and say ye know what they were good games
X and Y had a great anime as well, so that helped with the game’s popularity later on. I haven’t played the actual game because I don’t have the right DS
I hope so but I don’t think it will be the case this time. I think people will hate swsh and galar in general forever until it gets a redemption like legends: z-a is said to be for kalos.
i can ensure you the problem is not time they have literally all money one can think of and making more money with each game they just want to cut costs and it works scarlet violet as badly programmed they where sold more than every other game and we all are the problem me includet who bought 2 of each ... :D
The battle gimmicks are implemented pretty terribly in the main gameplay, but are definitely better in competitive, but honestly I do too wish they just stopped doing it, or at least implement it better and stop making them one-offs
Idk of all the gimmicks dynamaxing is my favourite one by far cant tell anything about terrastalization or whatever its called cuz i havent playes SV but i played Y i played sun and ultra moon and dynamaxing just stuck with me unlike z moves
I love sword and shield. The region is beautiful, the Pokemon are cool, I actually enjoyed the wild area (although it could be bigger) & the glimwood triange
The apologia over the dexit when MANY of the models in sword and shield are literally just scaled up versions of the 3ds models… You can only consider this as a bad thing given the “reward” was truly negligible. It’s pretty clear that gigantamaxing is pretty lame compared to teratypes and mega evolutions and z moves obviously sucked so ur really not doing much by making that comparison. You also never bring up the terrible story, something that becomes even more clear when you compare it to the much better writing of scarlet and violet. The game in totality feels incredibly soulless and that is absolutely not nostalgia talking. We have had two other games (LA/SV) that while you can critique much of it, still really bring something to the table. Was hoping for a video actually going over the games but you cover so little which makes sense because otherwise, when comparing it to older AND more recent games it just clearly falls flat.
Not watched the video yet, but I'm going to say that I think this is probably the most underrated Pokémon game. It definitely has its flaws but overall I really, really enjoyed it. It has my favourite new set of Pokémon designs since gen 4, the best gym battles in the series and I personally I loved the G-Max Pokémon almost as much a Mega Evolutions. I also really enjoyed all the raid den events and especially Dynamax adventures which kept me coming back to it long after I would with most Pokémon games. "Dexit" was definitely a shame and honestly really p*ssed me off when it was first announced, but in hindsight it didn't actually affect my enjoyment of the game much, if at all and it's simply not feasible for them to keep including every Pokémon in every game going forward anyway. It was always going to happen eventually. Also, unpopular opinion I'm sure but I truly think having a more structured and linear game along the wild areas for a bit more free exploration made for a much better experience than the fully open (yet incredibly dull and empty feeling) world of Scarlet and Violet.
@Mimikyu15 I couldn't disagree more. They're the first mainline Pokémon games to have a fully open and explorable world and yet gave me by far the least insensitive to explore of any Pokémon games. It's mostly just endless fields of nothingness with a few TM's and glistening items scattered around. There aren't even building interiors to explore anymore. Almost no noteworthy NPC characters worth taking to, hardly any smaller side quests to do or secrets to find like past games. The whole world just feels completely empty and sterile and devoid of the charm and "lived in" feeling of other Pokémon regions.
@Mimikyu15 Again, I beg to differ. You can't even interact with most NPC's in Scarlet and Violet outside of the main characters. There are just vast amounts of open sprawling land that are almost completely bare geometrically and with almost nothing to do or find other than a few TM's which you can just get made at the Pokémon centers now anyway, there are almost no NPC's outside of a few trainers, or hidden areas to find. Other than looking to see what Pokémon spawn there, there is basically no reason at all to explore. By far the worst is the towns and cities though. They're almost completely barren. No buildings you can enter except for gyms, nearly no NPC'S you can actually talk to, most of them just walk around in a loop with a single speech bubble over their heads. There's literally nothing to do in them other than do the gym challenge and move on. They feel like lifeless, soulless ghost towns. Previous games encouraged you to explore every little nook and cranny, enter buildings, talk to random NPC's, many of which would give you notable gifts including special Pokémon, rare or finite items, hidden side quests and objectives. Little secrets off the main path hidden away away somewhere and it made the region much more fun and REWARDING to explore, and added replay value. Sword and Shield was already a step down in this regard compared to previous installments, especially on the routes in between towns and cities, but compared to Scarlet and Violet they feel so alive.
@Mimikyu15 It’s actually more dull than any game in the franchise I would rather play gen 1&2 than playing s/v ever again The game itself was mad boring All what you see is a random patch of grass and few trees almost everywhere There’s no Pokemon statue or paint or any sign that this map designed for Pokemon It’s so empty and soulless What even there to explore even ? Do you actually walk around and say wow that’s amazing for the 2nd time ? The cities designs are just so mediocre Possibly the worst ever You can’t interact with NPC anymore Which imo one of the most fun aspect of the game Remember that one guy who asked you to rise Pokemon cause he’s too old and lonely and want a companion before he dies and leave your Pokemon behind thanking you Few things like this is very refreshing Even normal building like shopping places you can’t enter in this game The only thing that going on for scarlet and violet is the story Nothing more or less Even the characters comparison is off here by you I think Leon , Raihan , mustard , Sonia , Marnie and bede are all very colorful characters that left very good/fun/memeable impact on the community like Raihan Content is equal I don’t see what more content you see in scarlet and violet that I’m not seeing in sw/sh ? Cause the dlc of sword and shield Have the dynamax adventure And that alone more end game content than the anything in scarlet and violet I really think scarlet and violet is extremely rushed possibly the most rushed game ever Even the mechanic is so lazy Only 2 Pokemon get a unique look from the game mechanic ?? For me this by far the most boring game ever created And I definitely would rank sword and shield in top 3
I accepted dexit because of competitive it made the scene so much more dynamic making different pokemon relevant over time I also really like what they have been doing rules wise even after dlc released constantly changing what’s legal gimmick wise and restricted wise it’s been a fun time honestly as someone who’s prime childhood was gen 3 gen 8 is my fourth favorite gen it jumped gen 4 because of the remakes and realizing how much nostalgia was the reason I had it number 1 replaying it it’s a lot of fun but yah slow kind of basic it didn’t really do anything different if you ask me the region just has character and the best champion
Sword and shield were great games even though they made them really easy compared to the others with the puzzles and things they all took out but the few features I did miss the most even though they are small how you can customize your boxes with different artwork like you can on diamond and Pearl in a different battle scenes like from brilliant diamond and Pearl and past generations
I got my switch really late, and just got Sword and the DLC last year. My opinions are: The base game is small, the routes are small, the cities are small, and even while liking it very much, i feel that the wild area is REALLY small, specially as it was used to make it look like that we had as much exploration as the earlier games. The DLCs solve it, but its a DLC. It took me some time to get used to dynamax, i like it now, only while playing casual, i dislike it in pvps, but the idea and designs are really good. The DLCs itself are really good, i quite liked it, i have some issues with them, sure, but it was a good experience for me, specially playing Violet before playing Sword, i quite like the open world and overworld pokémon. The bike tho, it has 2 velocities, slow and so fast that i can't control properly, I would take Miraidon 10.000 times over that bike The character customization is ok, XY still has the better of the series, but its way better than SV
I think it’s gotten better with time, it’s still the worst in the series but there are features I miss like the dynamax lair and the actually explorable houses 😂
I think Sword and Shield were the weakest mainline Pokemon games, excluding remakes. But that makes sense. A move onto a new console, having the first ever DLC, the sheer size of the franchise, and many other factors must have put a lot of pressure onto the developers and while the games had some things, the game has a lot of problems as a result of how stressful this probably was. COVID hitting right after must have not been the greatest either. It was in a really awkward place honestly, and I personally would consider the lowest that Pokémon has ever been, along with BDSP. The games were good, they just couldn’t handle the pressure from everything. It seems the most recent games have been making improvements though, I just hope they put more time into future games.
People: I hate bruxish, chingling, quilladin, origin dialga etc Also people: but if they’re not in every game I will send death threats to gamefreak! It’s not like I said in the past that these Pokémon shouldn’t exist in the first place or anything and if they weren’t in a game it would basically be like that. (This is just a joke, alright) I really don’t care if not every Pokémon makes it into every game. The reasons for why is not cool on gamefreak’s part but in general, I don’t care if I can’t use centiskorch in one game or magnezone in another. I have tons of other options and they’ll probably be in the game after that anyway.
With more time to think about this Gen, the more I hate it. It has become a series with stale gameplay, awful and boring story, lazy use of time with no voice acting and poor animations. There is very little to actually like with this Gen and I almost fell out of the series because I hated this Gen so much. LA brought it back with gameplay that was actually pretty addictive and a battle system that was changed with nice fast paced combat. Feeling like Pokémon were actually real animals with them attacking and going out to learn about them. Yeah the game is pretty ugly and the story sucks but I would take good gameplay over a Gen that basically sucks at everything
@@tippedjoshua6802 nah lots of people like peanut butter here (I personally think it's grim) Just mixing it with jam isn't a thing We get the reference cuz of US media - just not something we've adopted. Plus jam butties (sandwich) reminds me of the post war generation lol
I still find Sword and Shield to be the weakest in the series, the wild area was good but everything else was really linear and the story was kind of tacked on without proper build up. However on a more positive side I absolutely loved the DLC for the games. One thing I did find annoying was the discourse online at the time these games released like yea I know the texture on the tree doesn’t look good, but I also don’t spend my time in game just randomly staring at trees.
You should consider the fact that you're paying full price for a game that's compromising the quality with an inconsistent one. Sure that tree may not be that important, but the whole game is inconsistent and all over the place which was why that tree stuck out like a sore thumb. It's not like this tree was discovered after the release either, that tree among other graphical inconsistencies were shown in promotional pictures/videos. While graphics aren't what makes a pokemon game a pokemon game, I feel that it is only fair to have a bit of a standard here. I don't really feel that the discourse was unreasonable. Definitely a warranted criticism.
Sword and Shield were just victims of being the newest games at the time. Just look at Black and White. When they came out, everyone was clowning on them and said that they were the worst games to date. But almost 14 years later, they are remembered as being some of the best game in the franchise. The main reason is because of the kids. The kids who grew up playing Black and White didn't have a way to voice their opinions at the time, but now that they're older, they can reminisce about them. I guarantee you that if you give Sword and Shield 5 more years, people will say the exact same thing about them. I'd even go as far as to say the same thing about Scarlet and Violet as well. I don't think they were bad games. They had a great story with lots of new and awesome Pokémon, as well as a lot of customization options. They just have piss poor graphics, and a lot of glitches. Imo, they definitely should have gotten a 3rd version instead of a DLC to fix this. But I don't think Sword and Shield needed a 3rd version. There weren't any major issues with them that the DLC couldn't fix.
I remember liking it because it was either the 2nd or 3rd game in the series I played after Pokémon white and maybe Pokémon Sun depending on when I got it. I was also 10 at the time, but I really need to go back just to see what it’s like because now thinking back on it, it seemed boring. I remember getting really bored during the 2nd dlc, but still it’s better than Scarlet & Violet where I’m just laughing at how bad it looks all the time.
5 years later and it's still one of the weakest mainline games in my opinion. I had my fun but, a lot didn't feel right. When I compare it with SV, SV is for me the better game (aside the technical problems, which didn't happen on my side).
This will probably be seen as the last of the Classic Pokemon games, where you still have the traditional linear gameplay instead of the fully open world gameplay that Scarlet and Voilet has. I do think this and S&V are overhated, and this game will probably hold a special place in my heart since it was the first Pomemon game I mainly played through (I was collecting the cards and watching the anime during the 6th/7th generation of Pokemon).
I use to hate the idea of not having a national, until I realized that I had never once completed and found the Gen 8 animations and found gen 6/7 ugly. I believe the best solution however, would be for 2 games to come out, one without a national Dex, but quality graphics, and a 2D game with the national Dex and more postgame content.
See I've never fully completed one either. I think in Emerald I got every Pokemon possible in the copy of the game? But I've never once got every single Pokemon to fully complete a Dex. So Dexit doesn't really faze me as much. A 2D Game and a non national dex game is a interesting one - I've never heard somebody suggest that actually. I'm intrigued by the concept!
Very mixed on these games, on one hand I think they have the overall best pokemon and character designs in the series. But the story sucks (which usually is the case anyways) and the obvious quality problems keep it from being among gen 2 and 5 for me.
There's a saying in spanish that says: "Those who don't know god pray to any saint" that's what happends with this game. The people who like it, is because they were kids when they played it and now fell nostalgia plus it has the core Pokémon expirience that's so fun. However, compared with the peak of the franchise in GBA and DS, this games are pure trash.

Saying that, it makes sense why a video about a game has a comment section full of people who like that game.
Every game is terrible to somebody
I played it two years ago and I can’t remember one single good city that left any impression on me
Hammerlock forgettable ?
An entire city designed as castle with dragon head as gate
Bro if sword and shield are forgettable then what gen have iconic or very way to be remembered cities ?
Cause by far x/y and sword and shield have the best cities in the franchise hands down
Name to me one good city in s/v I will be waiting
@samggh-tu2rv I didn't mention Gen 9 at all because this isn't a Gen 9 video but if you insist, Levincia was pretty. I agree Hammerlocke had potential to be amazing, but the inside of the gym/ gym challenge was a total dud, made the the thing feel unfinished.
@Nickat-fk8ud
I’m talking from design standpoint
Despite the difficulty of the gym challenge or the content in the city
For me and I’m gen1er my first console was gameboy in the 90’s
I still think sword and shield had the best cities ever
It’s no contest
The only one that would come close to that is x/y
Yeah I think x/y have much cooler region overall , better routes and near cities areas like shores and wild areas
But cities design nothing would top sword and shield imo
Hammerlock even the gears ⚙️ ⚙️ city was mad cool

I've never been into shiny hunting actually - is it difficult to dynamax shiny hunt?
@@rivalryyyy it's good odds with the shiny charm. Especially if you're looking for a legendary. Trying for Giratina right now.
Great video I'm new to the Pokémon games and your videos help me a lot with learning the lore and everything :)
Late reply to this apologies but I'm glad I can help!

I think its always better to experience the Pokemon game yourself and draw your own conclusion for sure. When Sword and Shield was new it was the most recent punching bag so got a lot of hate. As a game I think its really good.
I'm deciding which Pokemon game to play first on Switch. Is Pokemon Sword and Shield a good option, or is Pokemon Legends Arecus better?
Depends on what you are looking for - I feel Legends is a better game. But it isn't a traditional style Pokemon game.
Traditional game id go sword or shield - best game legends Arceus imo.
@@rivalryyyy Arigathanks! Then I'll go for PLA. Have a great day!
I agree with you for sure - I think it's better to focus on a smaller amount and make it manageable than a 1000 and it be unmanageable.
problem with dexit: we want our favorite pokemon on the newest gen. if we can not trade them to the next gen, we are stuck

Did you get the DLC with them as well?
Is the battle community still active been wanting to go back

I don’t think this really indicates much, console sales are always going to eclipse software. Pokémon is definitely still strong a strong growing brand… Gen 8 selling 6 mil first weekend and 9 doing 10 mil in 3 days on one platform is still insanity.

No the wild areas ran terrible too not as bad as sv but still bad
I like gen 8 and is my second favourate gen after gen 3 fire red leaf green been number one
Off topic but the worse part of sv is they didn’t take advantage of what was achieved in arceus they didn’t improve graphics from swsh outside of Pokemon models and the performance failed so they didn’t learn anything from the experience up to that point
Yeah the performance is a big big issue in SV. Which is a shame really, it defintely overshadows most opinions on the game.

What’s your favorite video from this channel? I’m looking for recommendations!
Mine personally? I loved the 25 years later of gold and silver because I was replaying them at the time. Really enjoyed making it!
Dexit made me stop buying any pokemon game since oras. and no mega evolution. i need mega evolution for my guardevoir
@Mimikyu15
It’s actually more dull than any game in the franchise
I would rather play gen 1&2 than playing s/v ever again
The game itself was mad boring
All what you see is a random patch of grass and few trees almost everywhere
There’s no Pokemon statue or paint or any sign that this map designed for Pokemon
It’s so empty and soulless
What even there to explore even ?
Do you actually walk around and say wow that’s amazing for the 2nd time ?
The cities designs are just so mediocre
Possibly the worst ever
You can’t interact with NPC anymore
Which imo one of the most fun aspect of the game
Remember that one guy who asked you to rise Pokemon cause he’s too old and lonely and want a companion before he dies and leave your Pokemon behind thanking you
Few things like this is very refreshing
Even normal building like shopping places you can’t enter in this game
The only thing that going on for scarlet and violet is the story
Nothing more or less
Even the characters comparison is off here by you
I think Leon , Raihan , mustard , Sonia , Marnie and bede are all very colorful characters that left very good/fun/memeable impact on the community like Raihan
Content is equal
I don’t see what more content you see in scarlet and violet that I’m not seeing in sw/sh ?
Cause the dlc of sword and shield
Have the dynamax adventure
And that alone more end game content than the anything in scarlet and violet
I really think scarlet and violet is extremely rushed possibly the most rushed game ever
Even the mechanic is so lazy
Only 2 Pokemon get a unique look from the game mechanic ??
For me this by far the most boring game ever created
And I definitely would rank sword and shield in top 3
Dexit was good for VGC
My opinions are:
The base game is small, the routes are small, the cities are small, and even while liking it very much, i feel that the wild area is REALLY small, specially as it was used to make it look like that we had as much exploration as the earlier games.
The bike tho, it has 2 velocities, slow and so fast that i can't control properly, I would take Miraidon 10.000 times over that bike
The character customization is ok, XY still has the better of the series, but its way better than SV
Best Pokémon game on switch other than arceus
I'd agree with that!
The tree
I think it’s gotten better with time, it’s still the worst in the series but there are features I miss like the dynamax lair and the actually explorable houses 😂
Even worse than Scarlet and Violet do you reckon?
It is not the worst
I put more hours in shield than I did in violet
I'd take Sword & Shield over Scarlet & Violet and X & Y any day.
@@The-FishkeeperReally? X&Y? I’ve never played it, but it cannot be worse than Sword and Shield
Dynamax was the best. Very flexible, does not require a hold, many good canadates to dynamax. Way better than mega/zmove
Well they finally broke the yearly release trend…
Nuh uh ☝🏻
NO MORE DEX CUT IN ALL THE FUTURE POKEMON GAMES!
I mean if they’re just gonna re-use models, absolutely
That’s not even a problem imo
People: I hate bruxish, chingling, quilladin, origin dialga etc
Also people: but if they’re not in every game I will send death threats to gamefreak! It’s not like I said in the past that these Pokémon shouldn’t exist in the first place or anything and if they weren’t in a game it would basically be like that.
(This is just a joke, alright)
I really don’t care if not every Pokémon makes it into every game.
Needs hard mode.
Similar to Gen 5 with a challenge mode or even harder than that?

Rainbows are cool.
0:40 HOW??
Not a thing here
Also jelly = what you call jello
Plus peanut butter is gross 😆
@@Alex-zs7gw peanut butter is good though at least if you have it on something
@@tippedjoshua6802 nah lots of people like peanut butter here (I personally think it's grim)
Just mixing it with jam isn't a thing
We get the reference cuz of US media - just not something we've adopted.
Plus jam butties (sandwich) reminds me of the post war generation lol
pokemon sword and shield the last non genshin impact style
Thats cus it had no post game that got turned into the dlc we had to pay extra for
My 2nd favorite Pokemon game
What's the first!?!
@@rivalryyyy RED AND RUBY THERE MY NUMBER 1’s
Nah sword and shield were bad
Already giving a like for the Manchester is red comment
Always has been and always will be my friend!😉
This will probably be seen as the last of the Classic Pokemon games, where you still have the traditional linear gameplay instead of the fully open world gameplay that Scarlet and Voilet has. I do think this and S&V are overhated, and this game will probably hold a special place in my heart since it was the first Pomemon game I mainly played through (I was collecting the cards and watching the anime during the 6th/7th generation of Pokemon).
Just replayed it and it was even better the second time. 1000%
I found a shiny ho oh in this game 3 days ago
Still the Halo 5 and Star Wars Episode 8 of Pokemon.
No reply value it was so horrible the dlc wasn’t bad tho
Cap
Yo NINTENDO TAKE NOTES📝🔛🔝
Very mixed on these games, on one hand I think they have the overall best pokemon and character designs in the series. But the story sucks (which usually is the case anyways) and the obvious quality problems keep it from being among gen 2 and 5 for me.
There's a saying in spanish that says: "Those who don't know god pray to any saint" that's what happends with this game. The people who like it, is because they were kids when they played it and now fell nostalgia plus it has the core Pokémon expirience that's so fun. However, compared with the peak of the franchise in GBA and DS, this games are pure trash.
