Usually a picture of something with a red line crossed through it is a sign of something that you are not supposed to do or touch, etc. Like, "No crossing" signs, or "No swimming" signs, etc. A surfboard with a seal with a red line through it is a sign saying "I'm not a seal so don't eat me" sign for a shark. Like, "NO SEAL" sign. It's hilarious, when you see it in the right context. For those who just don't get it.
I really wanted to know why other people thought this was funny, I thought that it was because "like a shark is going to listen to that". I didn't know if though if he/or anyone else knew the reason I thought it was funny. "Seal" in French is p.h.o.q.u.e. and when you say it out loud it, well you can get the point but he was making a sign that would say "No p.h.o.q.u.e.s.". Like "No f*'s given". This is why when you swear you say "pardon my French", because you're playing like you're apologizing for the fact that you're using the French word for seal and not apologizing for swearing.
@@jdamommio :) no, as much as the French have been accused of surrendering a lot, it's an exaggeration, and that's not what it means. Thinking about what I originally wrote, I can't find anything to back up the French word for Seal being THE reason for the expression, there seems to be several possible explanations. Mine is more of an interesting realization about the expression. Sorry if I misinformed anyone.
I love that surfers send him pictures of the "no seal" sign on their boards. It must be working because they would not be here to send the picture if it didn't.
The red line through the seal joke is hilarious. How can anyone not get the joke? But I do agree with some people saying a diagonal line through it would make more "idiots" understand the joke better.
Talking comedy and you think it's necessary to call other people names cause they don't have the same sense of humor as you. Maybe your the "idiot"...........
I put one on my long board. Yes I'm that old. I stopped surfing and started using the board for a fishing platform. The sharks would steal my fish instead my limbs. See, it works😂.
@@guysumpthin2974 I disagree. Too many words. Takes too long to get to the punchline. By the time you get there, the audience has the joke figured out and they're not surprised. As written, the joke is tight.
Definitely agree. I didn’t get what he meant. I was imagining a vertical line, or thinking the red line symbolized blood or something. But even understanding it now, it’s not a joke that should have stayed in his act for 22 years.
It's 5:42am and I just laughed at the seal joke hard enough that I felt bad like I might have woken someone up. Been a fan since Toyota in Nerds next gen.
Having run over at least two possums, at night, when they walk towards you to see what those shiny things are, - yes, to show the possums it could be done is a true statement.
I've heard lots of your other jokes so you'll be happy to know that when I started this clip, I got an ad from Chick Filet. I guess they're watching you!
As a K Canadian, I don't understand his joke. But It seems funny for Southern American though. I probably understand 1% after watching it 100 times maybe. puhahaha... Thanks for uploading this video. Cheers,
Southern Californians surf, so it offends them. That alone can be funny. Andy Kaufman made a career out of being funny by not being funny. It can be funny to intentionally not be funny.

Loved Cho since the 80's .. but gotta say, the outdo music coming in so early made me think someone in the audience's cellphone was going off during his joke. Of course I'm kinda old, and grumpy to boot, so maybe that's just me.
I really miss the likes of Cho telling jokes on the late shows. Much better than the political garbage the hosts insist on today. And I get the surboard joke!
A red line (an international symbol of "no") through the picture of a seal is his way of telling the sharks possibly swimming underneath him that he and his surfboard are not a seal, and don't try to eat him. What makes it funny is that sharks don't read. 😊
I LOVE the seal joke. I don’t understand why so many didn’t. 🤷🏻♀️ We need more of Henry Cho and CLEAN comedy!
The seal joke is hilarious 😂❤
I thought he said sail and I was confused
Honestly, a red circle with a line thru it would be a better visualization, but I'm sure it's been said before, and Henry don't agree. :)
You’ve always been one of my favorite comedians. You hooked me with Jonly Bonly Stewart decades ago.
It was the way he would always say Jonly Bonly SCHTeewwwrrRTTT!!
I always loved the J only B only Stuart joke! It's one of my all time favorites.
Next board I paint will have the "NO Seal" graphic!
For the record, I liked the seal joke, but the chicken joke was my personal favorite.
WmI grew up In south Mississippi but am living in Northcentral Arkansas@ we hit a chicken. Trying from my best of memories, " winner, winner eats a chicken Dinner
Yeah,… the chicken joke made me laugh out loud!!! 😂😂😂
I’ve heard it as “to show the armadillo that it could be done”.
Alternate view, the seal joke is perfect, and works every time because it never fails to make Henry Cho have a perfect night.
That chicken crossing the road was the best joke I've heard.❤❤❤❤
I’m a shark and I approve this joke. 🦈👍
He should make stickers, shirts, mugs with that logo. That is money left on the table Henry.
That's gold, Jerry, gold!
I’d be honest, I was not smart enough for the seal joke. But kudos to you for braving 20 years of crickets! 😂❤

Thank you. I didn't get it, but I think that's because I was over thinking it. I'm like... but the shark only sees the silhouette...
Oh I got it. It's just not funny

Now I got it! 😅
And this shows how any joke can be funny, with the right timing, enough dedication to the gag 😂

I LOVE that shark joke!
Henry needs to perform at a surfing convention, seal joke would do great. Right now, he tells it and gets pitted, soooo pitted......
I laughed at the seal joke! 😂
That seal joke sounded like something Mitch Hedberg would say lol.
"An escalator can never break, it just becomes stairs!"

Love the opossum joke !

One of the all time, funniest comedians ever1
Big fan for years. :-)
The surfboard with a seal and a red line through it seems like an excellent idea.
A line across a picture usually means "No _____", so "no seal" makes sense. (insert laugh here)
Ahhh, I pictured a red line straight down the middle of a picture of a seal and didn’t get the joke. Had he said “across “ then …
Hahaha, love it!! Cheers, Henry!
The fact that that particular joke bombs, makes it that much funnier.
I loved that joke!
I think adding one word would increase by at least 50% the laughs you'd get. "A seal with a DIAGONAL line through it."
Or “red circle with red line through it”.

@@johnnykidblue Really?
Most people jumped right to imagining the red circle with the diagonal line through it.
As Christopher Moore wrote in one of his books: shrink wrapped, seal shaped dude snacks (for sharks.)
That’s so funny cause it’s true. 😂😂😂

That's dedication, right there.
I used to knee-board surf. The seal joke is great!
Refreshing sense of humor.
Forget the symbol, paint your board to look like an Orca!
That needs to be a bumper sticker.
YOU are HILARIOUS
Love you and your comedy! When are you coming to Maryland?
Keep telling it.
His cowboy and Indians joke is his best
That shark joke hits with me😂 but im from Ktown so what do I know🙃
Jackson's jokes are funny! The adults are laughing 😂
There’s no business
Like Cho Business - Thomas Jane
I love the seal joke, I remember when it bombed on Leno…
Having run over at least two possums, at night, when they walk towards you to see what those shiny things are, - yes, to show the possums it could be done is a true statement.
You need to sell shirts like that when you’re on tour
I am going to use that chicken joke on my 11yo niece. I bet she loves it.
If you need to keep telling the seal joke, then it's non-negotiable. Keep doing it!
The key is to be consistent. Even a seal joke with a red line will come through ... if we draw enough red lines.
See, I would think it meant:
"No seals allowed".
But then again - I'm not a shark.
I remember seeing you in Designing Women. I got the seal joke right away...
I've heard lots of your other jokes so you'll be happy to know that when I started this clip, I got an ad from Chick Filet. I guess they're watching you!
No, they're wacthing YOU!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jay Leno sounds like my wife. These jokes are for ME, honey!
Granted I have never been paid to be funny.
Come to Houston
The Hollywreid people didn't get it , not surprised 😂😂😂
🤣
California has given a tax free license to open and operate gaming casino's. What have these establishments done to share their wealth?
What do you do to share your wealth? Where's my check?
Oh, right. That's only for other people giving YOU money.
Honestly thought the seal joke was leading up to something.
As a K Canadian, I don't understand his joke.
But It seems funny for Southern American though.
I probably understand 1% after watching it 100 times maybe.

Gotta get some surfers into your audience. Then the joke will work :)
The shark joke is funny, but it just doesn't seal the deal.
Maybe add the circle to the red line? It's a red circle with a line through it.
AND I BET THEY'VE NEVER EVEN HAD A CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A 🦈 HAVE THEY??? PRETTY SURE BECAUSE THEY'RE STILL SURFING
Loved Cho since the 80's .. but gotta say, the outdo music coming in so early made me think someone in the audience's cellphone was going off during his joke.

So in order for this joke to work 10,000 times the crowd mustn’t laugh at the seal red line bit otherwise it’s botched
Does the "Seal With A Red Line Through It" actually work?
Probably not but it doesn't hurt to try it. ;-)
on the beach it gets laughs, in the water it gets ignored....
Yes.
You should try it.
I mean, he doesn't look like he was ever attacked by a shark so... maybe?!
I really miss the likes of Cho telling jokes on the late shows. Much better than the political garbage the hosts insist on today. And I get the surboard joke!
Cuz the host is making fun of your favorite clown 🤡 😂😂😂😂
Yeah because Carson was never political
And 6 out of 5 people have trouble with math
@@toolrammsteindeftones Name a politician who isn't a clown.
Yep. Late night shows are now just political propaganda. It’s a shame
It's funny because it means no seal...
Don't know what's worse... the joke, or watching a 2-1/2 minute video about the joke.
I still don’t understand the joke. What does the seal have anything to do with a red line through it ?

"Here's your sign!" Wait, is it okay to quote another comedian?! Oh well, too late!
Are you e er going to explain the joke? Does Anyone else want to?
It's basically a "No Crossing" sign, but it's saying "Not a seal!". At least that's how I took it and seems to be the way most others also took it.
That was a great joke. Dumb people wont get it. So maybe thats why not many laughed.
Yep , most people need a lot of instruction
I thought it was funny AF!!
Do you like county music 🎶?
I don't think there are any musicians from my county, Slipknot(or most of the founding members at least) are from my state though!
I liked the chicken joke………
this guy's almost as funny as brendan schaub.
I don't get the joke tho.
Thought you made fun of a democrat or something funny joke
I didn’t laugh at the joke because it wasn’t funny… like not at all. Seriously , it doesn’t even fall into the category of being a joke.
The joke doesn't get laughs because it isn't funny.
0:50 *Armadillo works well too, but I guess maybe they don't have so many of those in Tennessee or Alabama*
Ok I dont get the seal joke...explain.
"Not a seal!"
