UPDATE regarding the "ANTI-VENOM" MOD (Show at 9:31) I went back and forth on how many shims to use, between one and two, so how many shims are best? I recommend ONE shim and not the two you see in this video. Two shims made the shifter glide very easily through the gears. But in performance driving, the shifter would often get "hung up" when downshifting (even with rev-matching). Going to one shim solved that problem. Though the shifting effort is higher than the two shims, it's still smoother than stock, and I'd recommend this modification who doesn't like the high-effort "short shifter" feel of their stickshift.
I bought a 2008 Z51 five years ago ,It was a life changing event. I have gained so many Corvette friends and never enjoyed driving a car this much. Fred
@@RetroCarsForever u bought a 95 vette because of you man! Thank you so much for posting about them! I love the info and updates and have become quite the c4 and c5 fan so I excited for the next video!!!
@@RetroCarsForever I get why they did it, too much torque for their engineers to overcome at the time with the removable roof. They tackled the issue in the C7 but in my opinion, the C6 is just a better-looking car.
@@nstg8Agreed, as awesome as it is, for some reason the C7 is my least favorite looking Corvette. I love that the C6 is really the last Corvette to have "proper" double-round taillights, for example.
Thank you! I think you mentioned that on Instagram, I'm flattered to have "influenced" your first car! Here's that first car video I talked about, super curious to hear your thoughts on it, and if the "struggles" i suggested have been an issue or not for you...ruclips.net/video/dyF5eHPf5sw/видео.html
I remember talking to you on Instagram, and I remember just seeing your profile picture and being like "I know exactly who that is" lol And thx for the link. If I do get a C4, I'll try to dm you on Instagram. Thx again!
If you do end up getting a C4 stay safe, I've been rear ended and nearly side swiped because You're insanely low to the ground, I don't regret buying a C4 as my first car it's definitely humbled me and has made me a better driver, best of luck
@@wrongperson7363Its true, ANY retro Corvette is so small and low to the ground that you have to drive defensively. Especially as so many vehicles out there now are trucks/SUVs/crossovers, you're not easy to see in a Corvette (I've had to use the horn MANY times to warn people who didn't see me!)
Hey from the South Carolina Coast. Currently I have a 1964 Sting Ray L76 327 / 365 HP all matching numbers all documented, 40k miles. Also have a 95 Corvette Vert and a 96 Corvette cope Z51. Both have less than 35k miles. Just picked up a gorgeous 2007 Z51 3LT Atomic Metallic Orange with only 10,567 miles. Original owner totally mint car. Car was kept in a climate controled garage. I had a 2007 Black Z51 3LT that I bought new of the showroom floor. Sold it about 4 years ago and swore I would get another one. I kept my promise to myself. I already put on a KnN cold air performance air intake and about to do a cat back exhaust, did both to my other 2007 when I bought it. It really opened it up. Great car and congrats !
I bought a C6 Z06 with 28K miles for $40K fully loaded in excellent condition and then put $8K in the engine. It’s now over 750 HP and it’s an absolute monster, and it still gets 20 mpg !!!
@@craigthescott5074 nice what shop did you go with? Also did you get the MSD intake manifold and a CAI? I’m thinking of getting the MF108 when I do put cams and headers in 2 years
@@exoticolors9953 no i stuck with the stock intake and mufflers but the car is extremely loud and fast so Im probably done. I also own a basically stock C7 Z06 and the C6 Z06 is faster than that car !!! Scrope Performance in LA did the engine.
I spent $19,xxx for a 2006 100% stock 1 owner 60k miles black on black 3lt. It's MINT. Intentionally got the 6AT. Probably just gonna do an intake, intake manifold corsa exhaust, transmission/motor tune. And just have it as a cruiser. I've got a 98z28 ls6/t56 that's 600whp on spray and completely gutted. H/C/I. That's my fast car. I'm excited about the C6. You got the ZO6, congratulations man! That's a bad unit
You will never be wrong with choosing Corvette. Sexiest fastest the ultimate cars. I love them since I was a kid, and it keeps me all life long. When You love freedom, NASCAR, and cars, it is obvious choice. In Vette we trust 🖤 🏁🔥 🏎️
Super happy for you man! Loved seeing you post your acquisition in the group, and your advice for others looking at them has been great as well. Congrats! I adore my C6, it's been such a great car.
@@RetroCarsForever I've got an '05 loaded very similarly to yours. But I've got you on fb from the rad group from way back. but I also run C6 Corvette Fanatics.
Rad! I recently got a 2000 C5 with Z51, G90/G92. A LS2 or LS3 C6 is next on the list. These used Corvettes are definitely still the best bang for your buck.
Cool! I would've totally bought a C5 if the right one came along when I was looking. The C5/C6 are very similar, and agreed, both great performance bargains.
I bought a C6 about 2yrs. ago w/27k mi. Had $30k burning a hole in my pocket. It`s a lot of car. Without the stability control I`d have missed a few turns. It makes you a better driver than you are.
Wew congratulations brother! Good to see you stayed with the Corvette lineup. Sad to see the C4 go but it's great to hear you still have plans for C4 videos. The C6 was a favorite of mine in my later childhood years, as i was always obsessed with each "new Corvette" starting with the C4 and moving onwards. I always found that one orange paint to look sexy on the C6s with the chrome rims, and maybe I'll be able to complement my 1994 C4 and get my hands on one soon enough--or maybe a C5 because popup headlights! The C6s might be a bit too much power for my abilities but it's always great to see the Corvette still competing well with the Porsche 911s of its day. That's the beauty of the Corvette! Excellent, quality videos as always Brad! Your vids are the few that get me excited when i see them in my sub feed.
Thank you very much! Agreed that the "Atomic Orange" paint is another awesome C6 color, that would've been my second choice. The nice thing about C6's is they have pretty advanced stability/traction control, so you cant do anything too bone-headed even with all that power. I've yet to turn mine fully off, still feeling the car out.
I also have to say that your take on it being fast enough stock is also the conclusion I came to haha. Plenty of trouble sitting under that hood if your looking for it. I might one day tweek the exhaust for more volume one day, but it doesn't really need anything. I usually appreciate that it's quiet. @@RetroCarsForever
Enjoy the C6 man! I bought on 05 C6 two years ago with 47000 miles from its original owner and its been a blast to drive! A few items here and there that have needed to be taken care of (plus electronics that may or may not decide to completely work sometimes) but it's definitely the most fun car I've owned!
Great video Brad! The blue "Elvis" Corvette is beautiful and your commentary is real as it gets. Nice work! See you over at C6 Corvette Fanatics. Regards from Colorado!
Thanks! Im probably in a minority, but actually really like my car stock as is. It's a very quiet exhaust unless you're gunning it, but I actually like it that way...A soothing grand tourer when you want it to be.
As someone who has driven a c6 and hard as well mind you, the car and driver guys are not lying, it is an amazing driving car with an admittedly okay interior and a ton of power but good gas mileage and being quite reliable (except like a component or 2 on the ls2 c6 vettes)
Agreed! It's not perfect but for its time, its a great value, lots of performance, and extremely comfortable. I'm curious, what components do you see as being an issue on the LS2? (Beyond the harmonic balancer of course, that's the only one I've heard is really common, but would love to learn more).
@@RetroCarsForever well by I mean components I mean basically only 2 things, ofc you already know about the harmonic balancer but also sometimes I can see the pulleys being not great but it's not that common so don't need to worry too much
I bought a new 2008 c6 z51manual transmission back in Nov of 2007 and proceeded to put 143k miles on it and it was utterly reliable and a great ownership experience. Miss that car even though I picked up a c8 z51 as I sold the c6. Great sports car
Great car as I used it as my daily driver for 13 years and even when I sold it . The vehicle looked and drove like new. The new buyer was so thrilled it put a smile on my face. Enjoy your new corvette. Great looking and great performance.
Thank you! I used to own a Miata as well, I felt the C4 drove kinda like a bigger beefier version of the Miata (both are RWD two seaters with near perfect weight distribution after all!)
I had a 2006 3lt ,Z51, stick, Convertible and I loved the car. It was my first corvette, but I have now moved up to a 2018 3lt, Z51, convertible. Love my C7 but I still miss my C6.. Enjoy your new ride....
Gorgeous color / wheel combo. I still have my '96 LT-1 C4, but have also been looking for a C6 just to have a crack at the newer / faster / more comfortable C6. Good video. Take care Bud
Thank you, I appreciate it! I still love the looks of my “new” Vette. And if you’re curious about how the C4 compares to the C6, check out my latest C4 vs C5 vs C6 video (if you haven’t already)- ruclips.net/video/Y84YiwkQKQ8/видео.htmlsi=ZjWDYv85H8ZHhS8A
LOVE the color, and the 6 speed manual transmission is the only way to go! I dig the original navigation unit with the folding screen as well. So many older cars had those replaced with newer large Android units that look like an Ipad or something. (I have a 2010 Lancer Ralliart that I ripped the aftermarket unit out of and went back to factory nav - the motorized screens make me smile :)) Very well made video of a drool worthy car, that I can tell took a ton of time and effort to shoot and edit. Thanks for posting, hopefully it racks up some views!
Many thanks! Yeah, I take awhile to shoot and edit these videos, but I'm a video editor by trade so I enjoy doing it. And totally agreed on the original head unit/nav systems, I was psyched that this one was untouched.
I wish you all the best with your new car. As a matter of fact I own more or less the exact same car, 2007, LeMans Blue Base Model, only my interior is black. In 1 year of ownership I only had to be towed 3 times due to sudden engine stops, replaced the harmonic balancer, fuel pump (great operation to do, remove both saddle tanks etc.), ECM, vent valve and AC compressor, all of which set me back another 10 grand. Even bought a used GMTech2 to somehow communicate with the car. I do not dare to leave the garage without the Tech2 in my trunk. I even relocated the OBD2 port to have easier access. Only good thing is, that I can always rely on my other car to just work, a 1995 C4 convertible. Apart from all the problems, it´s a great car, lot´s of fun to drive.
Woah, I have yet to hear of anyone who's had as much trouble with their C6 as you have! How many miles are on the car? Was it treated rough before you bought it? Maybe it's just a straight up lemon?? Sorry to hear that in any case.
@@RetroCarsForeverAs it was imported to Germany a few years ago I have no idea what it went through. Carfax is clean. It has 80.00 miles. Had immense problems from the beginning on. Just went dead while driving, sometimes after 1 mile, sometimes after 400 miles. New fuelpump solved it, but installation is a nightmare. Then ECM had a malfunction and needed to be fixed. Payed 20k plus additional 10k for repairs. Everybody says, the C6 is the best of all Vettes, easiest to repair, bulletproof engine.... not mine :-( All the best with yours !
@@plopppp7643Ooof, sounds like your car was either a "lemon" or was a bit abused before you got it unfortunately. I'm sure finding parts and good mechanics for it over in Germany wasn't the easiest either! Hope it's smooth sailing from here on out though. Wish you the best, and thanks!
Awesome find! I bought a 2007 C6 that is nearly identical to yours in June of 2023. Mine had 58k miles on it and needed a harmonic balancer and evap canister solenoid. So I had an aftermarket (and superior) balancer installed and picked up the solenoid at O'Reilly. I had it aligned and the belts changed while they did the balancer, then changed the oil, tranny fluid, and rear diff fluid. It has been perfect. 100% reliable and I have put about 4500 miles on it. Oh, I put a Pioneer stereo with wireless Android Auto so the avionics are completely up to date. What a fun beast! I might do the shifter mod you did, but that's it. Just maintenance and fun drives are ahead! I plan to keep it to 200k miles or until I croak, whichever comes first. I'm looking forward to your updates!
Congratulations on the beautiful car! I have owned a 08 Coupe (Z51, 6MT) for the last decade and it has exceeded all expectations. These cars are meant to be driven and, as noted, they are terrific grand tourers. We use ours for long trips and putting on the miles is fun. Maintenance has been zero, with just things like tires and a battery replacement along with the usual oil/filter changes but I am setting aside money each year for when a big job needs doing. I check the harmonic balancer every Spring when the car comes out of storage and nothing yet at 65,000 miles but experts tell me if it needs to be changed not to go with another GM unit but one from ATI with a pin so it won't move. Also, the best upgrade I did was to get a padded leather cover for the console--your elbow will thank you! Looks nice when matched with a set including the shifter boot and parking brake boot as well. Also installed a set of LED taillights as I want the car to be seen by traffic. This blue C6 is just a creampuff--not even any of the dreaded scratching/hazing of the headlight covers!
Thank you! I appreciate all your great tips. I love the idea of the padded armrest...I might have to check that out. I did notice on a the long road trip that I was using the center console as an armrest quite a bit, and it is strange how hard it is (I love the interior otherwise). Awesome to hear your car has been a reliable car to enjoy the miles with. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!
Congrats on the C6! A think a cool video idea would be to cover all the special editions, similar to the C4 video. Although there's not as many, it would be cool to learn about them (my brother just got a C6 427 and the driving experience is superb!)
Love my 2011 base model C6 Corvette I named DarkStar. Lowered it on stock bolts and added Morimoto led C7 style headlights. Rims were black so had them powder coated silver and break calipers coated red. Thought it looked naked without a spoiler so installed a ZR1 style wing. It's a coup like your and love driving around topless. LS3 engine is rock solid and easily take me to triple digit speed when needed. Love Elvis. Great choice in a sports car that will last and last. ❤
My first Vette was a black pristine 94. Then I bought a extremely sweet black 05 C6, but I couldn't give up the 94. I kept them both until I bought a brand new black C7 Grand Sport. Loved them all. Enjoy your C6.
I took my C6 z51 out yesterday for the first time this year and put around 100 miles on it, as I was driving I was thinking about what a great touring car it is, quiet with an easy ride that's not too stiff, I didn't think anyone else would feel that way about a C6 until I watched your video.
Nice! Yep, that was my realization after our long road trip. Even the Z51 rides pretty nice (especially compared to my C4 Z51, which road like a truck!)
I bought a C5 Z06 last summer. One of the best decisions I've ever made!!!!! I've never driven a C6, but I'd imagine that it's just as satisfying--or more--as my C5.
Awesome! Performance stats say that the C5 Z06 is about as quick as a base C6 like mine. I've driven plenty of C5's but never driven a C5 Z06, but I bet it feels much more raw, like a race car. The most desirable C5 in any case, enjoy!
@@RetroCarsForever Yes, it's a blast!!!!! I've taken it to a racetrack and one NASCAR track. Want to take it to more this year. This July will mark the 1-year anniversary of ownership.
@@RetroCarsForever Dover International Speedway in Delaware. They have a yearly charity run where they let the public take their personal cars on the track. You can buy 5-lap or 10-lap packages. The other place I've taken it to is Dominion Raceway in Virginia. Going to take it to Summitt Point Motorsports Park next month and Watkins Glenn in July.
Awesome! Congrats on the C6. Current C4 owner here, looking to add a C6 to the stable as well. My C4 is bone stock, so thinking the C6 could be the one I have some fun with in the aftermarket department. Enjoy!
Thank you! Going from my C4 to this C6, I really feel like it's a lot of the things I love about the C4, but it's just way faster and easier to live with. C6's are harder to fix, that's the biggest negative (some mechanicals are difficult to get to, like the fuel tank for example). But WOW are they so much faster than C4s, even when stock!
Awesome find! My first true sports car was a C6 Manual LS2. So much fun. Traded it in for a C7 and then got a C8 as well. Missed the C6 so much I recently purchase a C6 Convertible. Such a blast!!
@@RetroCarsForever The C6 was my dream car growing up. Always thought it was unattainable spending 55k+ for a two door car (as I have kids) So, a lot of it is sentimental. But I love the styling, the performance, and the ability to daily drive. And having it as a soft top is amazing in the warmer months. If you ever are in the Midwest and want to drive a C7 and a C8 for comparison, hit me up!
Great video! I also bought an '08 C6 five years ago with only 14k miles. Awesome car and I agree 100%.... it's an awesome touring car as well as a canyon carver! 👍🏼
@@RetroCarsForever Very well, other than an incident on a dyno... I installed American Racing headers & high flow cats, and Corsa Sport axle back exhaust.... brought it to a local tuner and when he did the 1st dyno run the engine died and wouldn't restart. Now it only had 21k miles on it... what the heck ?!?! Soooo long story short 4 cylinders had low compression, had them pull cylinder heads off and everything looked ok... pulled out a piston and the compression rings were frozen in their grooves. He said he'd never seen this before and I wondered the same thing. Anyways, I ended up buying a new GM LS3 crate engine that included a "GM Hot Cam" as they call it... just a bit bigger cam in an otherwise stock LS3. Well it turned out great and it sounds awesome... and runs extremely strong with that extra HP and Torque. It's at 452 HP at the wheels... 500+ at the crank. Lovin' it !!! Other than that, no issues...
I love Preludes, and I’ve test driven a few of them over the years. Problem is finding a clean stock manual VTEC example that isn’t going for outrageous money. That particular 4th gen was a spotless example but lacked the VTEC engine, which I realized is a necessary component for me. The Si engine felt pretty flat and lifeless.
Nice upgrade from the C4. This is America's sports car that can be a daily driver. Gobs of V8 horsepower for canyon carving fun- but can do the grand touring thing through the Nappa Valley. LA traffic is the problem. Moving 50 miles away from the LA clusterf- will stop you from aging faster than normal. I moved away from the DC/Balt corridor of traffic hell- 20 years ago. I had lived in this area all of my life. My life has improved dramatically since this life changing, driving for fun instead of frustration decision.
@@RetroCarsForever In college right now so I can't quite afford one, but I'm planning on it one day. My dad has a manual 2007 Z51 C6 not too different from yours. I grew up around that car and have spent some time in it, so I'm very found of the C6 (and plan to buy one as soon as I can afford to). The C6 is definitely my favorite generation for a whole list of reasons. I love the motor(s), I love the styling, the performance is fast by modern standards, last vette with analog gauges, the last vette before weight started ballooning upward, among other things. I could keep listing things all day long but then this would turn into an essay. Best of luck with the car, hopefully I'll be able to get one of my own in the not-too distant future.
Congrats on the new Vette! I've followed you on Instagram for quite some time and seen your C4 at meets before. But this is the first video I've actually watched. I'm a new subscriber. You make me want a Corvette.
Congratulations on your beautiful C6. Sorry to see your C4 go. So glad you called your new C6 Elvis for your mentioned good reasons. Blue suede shoes 👍😊 yes !! Look forward to your future videos.👍👍
Wow. I just found your channel and binge watched all the corvette stuff in the last two days. Never knew so much about the C4. Then boom, your upload today shows you switching to a C6 from the C4. Good luck. Im stuck on deciding between the rare V8 monte carlo ss and an LT1 manual F-body. But as youve said i dont think im ready to take on rwd manual as my 2nd car. Not to mention optispark issues
Welcome! As a second car, I'd personally go with the Monte Carlo. I owned the supercharged V6 2003 version of that car and loved it, the V8 is going to sound/go even better. Super roomy and comfortable too, and very easy to fix and find parts for. The Fbody will certainly be faster, but also much more of a headache to fix. A lot of major parts are very difficult to get to, and they're not exactly known for their reliability either. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Great video! Luv the LeMans Blue (had it on my 2004 C5 Z16 CE) and the C6 in general. I currently have a 2009 Z06 and refusue to upgrade (unless a very reasonable C6 ZR1 pops up). Keep the the C4 going too! Had a 1989 C4 'vert with a 383/automatic, which was a blast!
Thank you! Cool Vette's you've been lucky enough to own. I dont see any reason to "upgrade" from your Z06, IMO it's essentially the ultimate "analog" sports car out there!
I currently own a 1994 C4 and love it. I bought it in 2021 to pass the time as I wait to order a new C8 ERay and figured I would trade the C4 in on the C8 when it comes to that but now I think I just want to keep it. Now after owning the C4 for a bit it makes me want to own the generations between the C4 and C8. I would love to get your opinion on the C5-C7, I think I might just go in order 5,6,7, then hopefully 8 and not keep ever one. Thanks and great to see new content form you, I found your channel after I bought my C4.
I have little experience with the C7, but make sure to subscribe for the future C4 vs C5 vs C6 video that I’m putting out next. The C5 and C6 are very similar, probably the closest two Vette gens we ever got. Either of them are quantum leaps forward from the C4 in ride quality, chassis striffness, and roominess. That said, you can’t beat the vintage raw feel or style of the C4. And it’s much easier to fix than later Corvettes.
Well done, if you are buying, this is what you want to find! Very meticulous and clean indeed. I had no idea that Lemans Blue was a carry over from my C5 Z06. I thought us Commemorative C5 Z06 guys were really special, lol. I too was torn back before I bought my C5. Do I go C6 or not? Ultimately, they are nearly identical. C6 Z06 was out of my budget. You can't make a bad choice is what I am saying. I never knew how much they share parts until I dug into it. Congrats again, you made me realize I need to drive mine more. I need to hit the track again too. You NEED to make that part of your plans.
Thank you! I was also shocked when doing research for the C5/C6 how similar they are, something like 30 percent of the parts even carried directly over. The only Corvette generation that wasnt a true "clean sheet" redesign...But hey, the C5 was already so good, why mess too much with it? In any case, your C5 Z06 is beautiful. For some reason most Z06's seem to be yellow, which is pretty cool, but obviously I'm in love with Le Mans Blue! As for track use...If my car wasn't so nice, I'd track it! But it's TOO nice to be a track rat IMO. I do want to take it to SCCA "cone" course events though, that looks fun and low impact.
@@RetroCarsForever I have to respond about the track thing. My Z06 is absolutely perfect. I almost sold it for a yellow Z06 that was not so perfect. I really wanted to track it. I used to track E85/Turbo Subies and have many years of smiles. There is no way that I could not track a Z06, right?! Well, last fall I just said screw it and went. Prior to that I did coilovers, spec endlinks, cryo rotors and hawk pads/steel lines/race fluid, summer extreme Continentals, and Sparco race seats and harnesses. I was able to keep up with most everything modern at the track except in the straights. These cars are amazing. I will admit, I rode her hard that day. Should I have bought a lesser Z06? Looking back, heck no! Now I have memories with this one. They are all worth what we pay, but if we don't ever get to use them then what is the fun? Canyon carving is awesome though, don't get me wrong. But, dipping into a long sweeping curve at 100 mph and trail braking into a corner and hitting an apex spot on while powering out in a Vette, heaven! Oh, and SCCA/cones, that is harder on a car than a track day. Much more stop and go and pitching and rolling. But I still say do it!
@@OCDRex11I think I'm mostly concerned about cooking the car with the intense heat of a long track session, and MOSTLY concerned about damaging the pristine bodywork by going off the track, or having another car throw up a big stone or something. But something to think about, I appreciate it!
looking to buy a c4 am used to fast car and im a teenager and i know insurance wont be cheap but im ready to pay it but should i buy a c4 or save some more money and buy a newer on like a c6
Lucky for you, I made a video comparing the C4 to the C6! (And a C5 for good measure). It breaks down all the major pluses and minuses of each generation to help you decide. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/Y84YiwkQKQ8/видео.html
Thank you! I take the Motorweek comparison as a HUGE compliment. I was obsessed with that show back in the day, and still watch their "Retro Reviews" on their RUclips channel, so the style of those videos is definitely steeped into my subconscious! Have a good one.
My goodness - that's the exact spec I'd have ordered. Thanks you for keeping interesting colored cars on the road. If I thought I could be trusted with 400+ hp, I'd have considered one. Since I cannot, a Miata will be my 'fun' car. I also appreciate your transparency on the car buying process. Elvis will be a great car for you to enjoy!
Thanks bud! It's funny, this is the lowest-hp C6 and yet it's still WAY more than I've ever had in a car before, so it feels like a rocket (Most hp i've owned before was my old 330hp C4, and before that my 265 hp 2001 Bullitt Mustang). It is kinda like a big, overpowered Miata (near perfect weight distribution, manual RWD)...If you ever visit LA you're welcome to go for a drive!
you are a smart person, one who will obviously live to tell his stories. I certainly wouldn't recommend a fast car two seater car for any young person, as it requires judgement that is just not physically grown to full capability, and a young person needs to have seating for friends. I very much like what the Miata is, I just couldn't physically fit my taller frame into one so now have an overpowered design that is thirsty around town, but a nice grand tourer, a C5 convertible.
@@richardelliott8352You'll be happy to know I actually recommend the Miata over the Corvette for younger drivers! I covered that in this video here... ruclips.net/video/dyF5eHPf5sw/видео.html But yes, if you need more room, a C5 convertible is a great option.
Love my 2006 z51 3lt! Not many other college students own one, so it definitely stands out lol. For budget reasons though, I got mine with 160k miles and probably more abuse than I had hoped. Because of that, I have had a fair share of reliability issues. My harmonic balancer was an absolute nightmare and the only thing that worked was an ATI superdamper, pinned to the crank for extra security. That caused it to start throwing AC belts until I used a smaller belt size. Then my differential broke out of nowhere... Hopefully its smooth sailing now but in any case, I still love it!
That is some of the highest miles I've heard of with a C6, but I've heard those two issues are problems even with cars that have much lower miles. Wish you the best!
I bought my 08 z51 about 7 years ago. Did a cam swap and long tube headers. It's definitely not a touring car anymore (she loud and cam surges at lower speeds) but yeow, it moves. 470whp.
It's a favorite color combo of mine as well (obviously!) Regal yet fun exterior color, light and breezy interior. Plus I've been driving around with the top off A LOT and it's nice to sit down on cool light seats, instead of scalding hot dark ones!
That is my favorite generation Corvette and you did made a good purchase. Hope you have fun with your new Corvette eventually I’ll get a Corvette. I just need a garage I’m debating whether to buy a C5 corvette with the glass rear hatch or a C6 zo6
Thank ya! The C6 Z06 is a whole different level of performance and price compared to the C5 base coupe, so it really depends on how fast you gotta go and how much you want to spend (I think the base C5 is already a great performer and a great deal too).
@@RetroCarsForever the LS7 is a great motor but the LS1 Is great for like the street set up I mean both motors are great for street and the LS7 is great for life all of it. It’s just what’s making me debate on it is the price tag.
Purchased my 2008 C-6 Corvette coupe 1 1/2 years ago with 4064 miles. Car is atomic orange, Z51. Recently changed the wheels to ZHZ GM 7 spoke chrome (same wheel that are on the Hertz rentals Corvettes.) Really like the car.
As a Professional Detailer living in LA who also has a C6 I’ll first say “Welcome to the club!” And second “WELCOME TO THE CLIB!” Mine is a full NA build that is still my daily and totally reliable. You just can not beat a C6. If you ever need your car truly pampered and brought to a level of shine that is WAY past how it came from the factory let me know. I also have a channel “Not this one” featuring how to detail your car with several thousand followers. Let me know if you want the link and I’ll send it Again, WELCOME‼️
@@RetroCarsForever Not sure why but YT keeps removing my comments? I'm sorry about the delay in response. I'm actually 50% certain you live near my town as I saw a few landmarks in the canyon you drove that are a part of my normal canyon cruise. Santa Clarita possibly? :) I'll respond from my main channel as well since it appears YT doesn't like my mentioning it in a comment and will just keep saying "Nope" and removing it. Again, sorry for the delay and while your C4 was magnificent and worthy of tremendous praise the C6 is just truly astonishing in every way. My wife has a C7 and while it too is tremendous it's just no C6. You just won't find another car for the price that can plant a smile that big on your face. Have a great day :)
@@krsiv4Thanks! Yeah, RUclips doesn't like it when you post links to your channel on other videos, I think it sees it as "spamming." Oh, and I filmed most of this around the Angeles National Forest Area just north of Los Angeles.
@@RetroCarsForever This is my main channel. 😀That's exactly where we live and have our shop & studio. Some MAGNIFICENT driving through the canyons around here. That car is gorgeous. I love that color scheme. It would be an honor to help you bring the vibrance and shine to a level never seen. Not even the day it rolled off the factory assembly line. I wouldn't charge ya a penny if you'd allow me the privilege of working on it. My website (Which features my C6 as the first thing you see) and email are in my "About" on my channel page. My wife has the C7 and while it's astonishing as well - it's just not a C6. You simply can not beat a C6 in bang for the buck. Truly, your car is gorgeous.
congratulations. today is my 1 year anniversary of buying my 1999 C5 Hardtop w only 18k miles. my first corvette. 100% bone stock just the way i wanted it. will be going to a shop this week to replace its wobbling harmonic balancer and to get pinned. love the C6 but it was out of my budget at that time. i only paid 23k for my C5 and a similar C6 was about 10k more last year. only complaint i have are the crappy basic seats. my car still smells inside garage kept as it should be.
Happy for you dude. I recently sold my C4 and I’m indecisive between a C6 or C7. My question for you is have you driven an LS3, and what would be better in your opinion the one you have vs a C6 LS3? Also have you driven a C7, if so is it worth the extra money for one… performance speaking, I understand that a C7 would be a better riding car.
Thanks, and great questions. The LS3s extra 30 hp isn’t as noticeable as the improved manual shift feel and steering feel which came along with it. That said, it’s still the same basic car, and I wouldn’t pass up the perfect LS2 if one came your way (like it did for me). I’ve yet to drive a C7 (need to change that soon), but sat in several of them. The interior quality and grippier seats are the biggest improvement over the C6. I don’t personally like the look of the exterior of the C7, its function over form, but that’s a matter of personal taste. They’re all so close and excellent cars, that I would drive whatever examples in your area that you can to get a feel for what you like. Good luck!
@@RetroCarsForever The 6 speed auto was well built. I had nothing but problems with the 8 speed and the electronic locking rear. Also the c7 was supposedly designed by women, as the gmc truck is also. The c6 in my opinion was the last great corvette. I woulnt have a c8 on a bet, just my opinion. Corvette has always been in the lead with design and performance, until recent when they went to copy other manufactures. You found and made a great buy, enjoy it!!
Congratulations 🎊 on your beautiful blue C6!!! Blue a my favorite color, especially Jetstream Blue that come on the C6’s. Question, how did you drive it back home? Being you bought it from a private seller, no temporary dealer 30 day tag, right?
Thank you! I drove it home with a bill of sale and that was pretty much it (I drove veryyy carefully and got it smogged and titled in California the next day)
Thanks Mike! I think you'll love the C6 (or a similar C5) if you go that route. I've found it's pretty much everything I love about the C4, with none of the "pain". Biggest negative (that I'll cover more in my next C4 vs C5 vs C6 video) is how much harder the C5/C6 is to fix vs the C4, a lot of mechanicals are difficult to get to (the fuel tank/pump for instance), C4 is pretty straightforward by comparison.
such a well stewarded used car is quite a find, congratulations. the car is fortunate to have landed with such a knowledgeable owner. I happened to buy a c5 when I was looking and it is all the car I need , since I don't use a car every day, and like the unobstructed view when the top is down. I find it very scenic and surprisingly non isolating , without the cage effect of a closed car, pedestrians often give a friendly greeting or some kind of observation about the car when walking by. . prey for your left knee in Los Angeles traffic is my only advice
Thank you! The C5 clutch spring that I swapped in that you can see later in the video has certainly helped in stop and go traffic (and if I know I'll be running into really thick traffic, I'll usually just take my wife's automatic equipped Thunderbird). I HAVE noticed I get more compliments when I drive around with the roof off! I think it gives people more "access" to see/talk to the owner.
Great video, as always. I really miss my C7 Z06, but it became hard to justify having a summer car and a winter car. Driving a Z06 in Indiana winter is a death wish. I'm enjoying my modded AWD G70, and my daughter says it has a better butt dyno than the Corvette, but the C7 was the best car I have ever owned.
Thanks Brandon! I can't imagine the power and speed of the C7 Z06. Even with the least amount of hp you can get in a C6, 400 hp is still a lot to get used to (by far the most powerful car I've ever owned). I cant imagine what I'd do with 650 hp!
@@RetroCarsForever My G70 has similar horsepower after all of the mods I have done, but it's still not the same as sitting just a few inches off the ground in a Corvette cockpit.
@@brandonavery133 I totally get that. The basic "architecture" of a Corvette is hard to beat...Decently lightweight, low to the ground, front mid engined, RWD, near perfect 50/50 weight distribution = FUN!
I really love the blue Brad! It’s a stunning car. My buddy’s brother has really enjoyed his LS3 and I’ve been able to drive it a couple times and I think the bug has bit me 😂 I need more cornering capabilities in my life….and more power wouldn’t help haha
@@RetroCarsForever It's a C5, but yeah it's been great actually. Preventative maintenance, one starter, 2 rear wheel bearings and pretty much that's been it. Still draws attention, love it when the little kids stop and wave ( the new generation of car nuts!). Many trips down 95 to Florida and runs perfectly.
Looking at getting a C4, C5 or C6 asap. The C6 in my opinion is the best looking out of my options, but i heard that the LS2’s aren’t great motors. In future videos I would love to know how the engine holds up.
Thanks! GS and Z06 were out of my price range, and I happen to prefer the "narrow body" look of the base model. It's still more than enough performance for my needs.
Yeah, very similar! Mine is black and also 3LT. In my opinion, the F55 Mag ride is great, since I don’t ever track her. She still has the cross-drilled rotors and her suspension is user selectable between Tour & Sport. If you’re ever up in the Fresno/Clovis area, we should carve the road up near Kings Canyon. It’s beautiful up there. Keep up the great content!
Last month, I went out and bought an arctic white 2005 Corvette Base with only 50k miles. It has been a wonderful experience and I have already put in close to $800 in parts and accessories including a touchscreen radio, muffler delete and Raxiom LED taillights. I am currently in the process of finding other cheap cosmetic or performance modifications to put on without spending an arm and a leg. Any suggestions? Thinking of changing the black interior to a red/black combination, but I know that can get pretty pricey. Thanks!
Congrats! I'm not really the guy to ask about mods, as I personally like to leave cars as close as stock as possible. The only mod I can think of that's cheap and easy to help make the car your own that you haven't mentioned was adding stripes (even to just the fenders like a Grand Sport).
@@RetroCarsForever that’s a good idea! i really like the white exterior, but i feel it would look way better with a bit more flair like some stripes or even a wrap (even though that’s insanely expensive for these cars.) thank you for the suggestion! keep up the content.
Thank you! I actually didnt consider the C5 Z06 because the hatchback trunk space of the coupe, plus the removable targa top, were both must-haves for me. That said, if you don't need that, the C5 Z06 is an AMAZING buy, especially if you can find a clean one (most have been modded or raced to the ground).
Currently own a 2005 Jaguar XKR, which is a phenomenally sexy and classy GT car, but have always loved the C6, which in my opinion, is the high water mark for an analog, old school, American sports car with a beautiful instrument cluster that wasn't inspired by Buck Rogers, like later models of the Corvette.
Just saw this vid, great color combo! Blue Hawaii. Mistook for a C5 and for sure much better performance with a C6. You know I’m a C4 guy ZR-1 would have been a great choice too.
Ha, finally saw Blue Hawaii last week! C4 ZR-1 is a phenomenal car, as I learned in my last video. But the one I’d want (1994 or 1995) is way out of my price range right now. But maybe someday! Thankfully this base C6 has very similar performance. Progress!
UPDATE regarding the "ANTI-VENOM" MOD (Show at 9:31)
I went back and forth on how many shims to use, between one and two, so how many shims are best?
I recommend ONE shim and not the two you see in this video.
Two shims made the shifter glide very easily through the gears. But in performance driving, the shifter would often get "hung up" when downshifting (even with rev-matching).
Going to one shim solved that problem.
Though the shifting effort is higher than the two shims, it's still smoother than stock, and I'd recommend this modification who doesn't like the high-effort "short shifter" feel of their stickshift.
Corvette is always the answer! Welcome to the C6 family!

Congrats on the new ride! I must say as a fellow '07 Z51 coupe owner, you made a fine choice.
Many thanks! Glad to join "the club". Have you had any issues with your car?
Nope! I don't drive mine everyday, but it starts every time I hit the button.@@RetroCarsForever
Thank you! I kinda expect some electrical gremlins to pop up here and there with how many electrical components are in these cars. But will see!
Great video Brad! The blue "Elvis" Corvette is beautiful and your commentary is real as it gets. Nice work! See you over at C6 Corvette Fanatics. Regards from Colorado!
Thank you so much! And that group has already been a very helpful resource, one of the best on Facebook.
Congrats on the car. Very nice. I own a 1994 C4. I would just suggest doing after market exhaust and a cold air intake.

LOVE the color, and the 6 speed manual transmission is the only way to go! I dig the original navigation unit with the folding screen as well. So many older cars had those replaced with newer large Android units that look like an Ipad or something. (I have a 2010 Lancer Ralliart that I ripped the aftermarket unit out of and went back to factory nav - the motorized screens make me smile :))
Very well made video of a drool worthy car, that I can tell took a ton of time and effort to shoot and edit. Thanks for posting, hopefully it racks up some views!
Many thanks! Yeah, I take awhile to shoot and edit these videos, but I'm a video editor by trade so I enjoy doing it.

@@RetroCarsForeverI got a 1993 in white. Absolutely could not be happier with it.
Thank you! Good to know there wasn’t a whole lot your car has needed. Enjoy the ride!
Thanks! That's a great idea, there's a ton of C6 special editions out there.

Thanks! I would've kept my C4 if I could, I get why people own multiple Vettes now...Same basic idea, different flavors!
@@ericervin4778 Thats awesome! Which NASCAR track?
@@RetroCarsForever Awesome! I enjoy doing all my own work, so the C6 certainly would increase the learning curve lol
Awesome find! My first true sports car was a C6 Manual LS2. So much fun. Traded it in for a C7 and then got a C8 as well. Missed the C6 so much I recently purchase a C6 Convertible. Such a blast!!
Thank you! Interesting to hear from someone’s who owned a C7 and C8. Im curious, what brought you back to the C6?
@@RetroCarsForever The C6 was my dream car growing up. Always thought it was unattainable spending 55k+ for a two door car (as I have kids) So, a lot of it is sentimental. But I love the styling, the performance, and the ability to daily drive. And having it as a soft top is amazing in the warmer months. If you ever are in the Midwest and want to drive a C7 and a C8 for comparison, hit me up!
@@MVF2024Awesome! What area of the midwest?
As much as I'll miss the Silver Bullet, Elvis is a fantastic purchase! Congrats!!! Looking forward to more content.
Thanks man! I appreciate it.
Great video!
I also bought an '08 C6 five years ago with only 14k miles. Awesome car and I agree 100%.... it's an awesome touring car as well as a canyon carver! 👍🏼
Thank you! How has your car held up in the past five years?
The fact that you cross shopped a 4th Generation Honda Prelude makes me irrationally happy! Loved mine when I had it.
Thanks! Can't say I'm a fan of the LA traffic but it helps that I don't have an awful daily commute. Would love to just move to the canyons someday!
C6 corvette my beloved
Thanks! Loving it so far. Have you owned one?
@@diverxplThank you, and great points on why the C6 is a great car, all good reasons why i got mine.

Hello, I thought Venom Mod doesnt do much on stock shifter? How does it feel? Let me know should I do to my stock c7?Thank s!
I have no idea if it works on the C7, I just know antivenom is something for the C5 and C6. It does seem to work on my stock shifter.
Love the c6! Sad to see the LT4 go but you made a great choice! Thanks for a great channel.
Thank you so much!
I understand your C4 gripes, but hope you continue C4 content despite selling.
Thank you! Cool Vette's you've been lucky enough to own. I dont see any reason to "upgrade" from your Z06, IMO it's essentially the ultimate "analog" sports car out there!
@@RetroCarsForever The C5 Z06 is even more analog if that's your thing. Enjoy your new Vette!
Way to go man! Congratulations on a new car. My 1993 Chevrolet Corvettes nickname is Olivia after Olivia Newton-John
Thank you! We gotta take care of these old movie stars 😆
Great video! I'm so happy for you and Elvis. Jack looks forward to meeting him soon!
Thanks Mark! Gotta get another Corvette group drive going sometime soon.
Remind me, why is your Vette named Jack?
@@RetroCarsForever I wanted a "cool" name LOL. He's really a CJ (Corvette Jack)
Dude! Nice Vette. Thinking c6 is going to be my sweet spot.
Thank you! So far it is for me.

Brad is back! Give ‘er the boots bub! Love it. Your vids kind of remind me of old motorweek? on cable back in day. Love it.
I covered that in this video here...
ruclips.net/video/dyF5eHPf5sw/видео.html
But yes, if you need more room, a C5 convertible is a great option.
470whp.
Love the blue and tan/beige interior combo on cars; had the same on my TL.
LS7 had the valve issue that needs to be addressed. Figure a few thousand for that if it wasn’t taken care of by the previous owner.

Congratulations 🎊 on your beautiful blue C6!!! Blue a my favorite color, especially Jetstream Blue that come on the C6’s.
Question, how did you drive it back home? Being you bought it from a private seller, no temporary dealer 30 day tag, right?
Thank you! I drove it home with a bill of sale and that was pretty much it (I drove veryyy carefully and got it smogged and titled in California the next day)
Great video! I've been thinking of selling my 84 and C6's have been on my shopping list.

Thank you! That’s a ton of miles for a c6. How has it held up for you?
@@RetroCarsForever It's a C5, but yeah it's been great actually. Preventative maintenance, one starter, 2 rear wheel bearings and pretty much that's been it. Still draws attention, love it when the little kids stop and wave ( the new generation of car nuts!). Many trips down 95 to Florida and runs perfectly.
Looking at getting a C4, C5 or C6 asap. The C6 in my opinion is the best looking out of my options, but i heard that the LS2’s aren’t great motors. In future videos I would love to know how the engine holds up.
Stay tuned for my comparison test between the three! LS2s are great motors. Just gotta watch out for the harmonic balancer mostly.
I'm looking to buy one now. Thanks looking forward to more content.
You're very welcome, and best of luck with your search! More to come soon...
Nice buy, really what you want beside the GS and the Z06 of course
Thanks! GS and Z06 were out of my price range, and I happen to prefer the "narrow body" look of the base model. It's still more than enough performance for my needs.
Nice ride! I’ve got an ‘07 coupe, M6, with Mag Ride, and I love it! 😎
Wow, super similar, just different suspension setup. I’m curious how stiff my Z51 is compared to mag ride on hardest setting.
Congrats, great buy! Since selling my C4, I keep getting told to buy a C5 Z06. Wondering if you had a chance to test drive one.
Just picked up a base 2008 C6 coupe in crystal red metallic over cashmere with 15,800 miles on the clock. What a great car. It was worth the wait.
Progress!
Oh wow! Congrats dude!
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Absolutely fantastic car🎉
Congratulations dude
I am so jealous
Enjoy it
Thank you so much 😀
Welcome to the six club :-) Awesome cars! Finding a clean lo mile example definitely aids for drama free ownership. Cheers from Canada, ehhh :-)
Cheers!
Good job you made the C6 very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
3:54 …as it should! Corvette > Porsche!
Heehee!
Congratulations on the new car
Many thanks!
