    Often on these trains, people will elect to share the room with other people riding the train. The lower button (on the right marked with a half-moon) disables the room lights - if someone were arriving mid-journey, they won't accidentally turn on all the lights and wake the others. When in that mode, there are usually small reading lights at each bed. Once you disabled "night mode" your large lights worked again. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip.

      @@ΜΙΧΑΛΗΣΜΑΚΡΗΣ-ο7σ Not magic - Canadian. While we have Eng/Fre on signs almost everywhere - something like a light switch is too small to have both official languages so often they resort to cryptic pictures. Elevator buttons don't read "Open/Ouvrir" instead they're just "" I see a button with a moon on it "Ok, that's some sort of nightlight/night button"

    • @stephanweinberger
      @stephanweinberger 2 года назад +4

      @@CanuckJim @6:05 Kuga states that the train crew also thought the light is broken.
      But on second thought: maybe it was a misunderstanding and they actually meant the tiny night-light in the ceiling that usually comes on with this button.

    Trying to think why I enjoyed this video so much. I think not having the room light, and then being able to use it was one reason. The second reason is a bed one can sit up in on a train when most cabin beds seem to have a cramped sit-up height. Third, I liked that you were able to check off what you wanted in the morning.

    When I traveled around Europe in my early- and mid-twenties and then again in my mid-thirties, there were loads of sleeper trains-I understand then they disappeared for a while, as people opted to fly instead, but now they’re seeing a resurgence in popularity-and I envy you your private compartment; to save money I usually bought one berth, typically in a shared room of six or even eight berths, and boy, do I have unpleasant memories of multiple people snoring, drunk people climbing down and nearly stepping on my face on their way to the toilet, noisy people boarding at 3 a.m. and, again, climbing up into their berth over my face… On the one hand, I’d never want to do anything like that ever again, and then on the other hand, I’d give ANYTHING to be in my twenties and thirties and a relatively carefree single student and do it ALL again!!! I’m happy for you getting to enjoy these journeys!

      At my height, my experience with berths was they were enormous in Switzerland, in Germany, in the Netherlands, and in all the Scandinavian countries, kinda normal-sized in France, and criminally tiny in Italy, Portugal, and Spain, where I could never find a blanket that would simultaneously cover my shoulders and my feet, whether on a train or in a hostel.

      It depends on what comfort class you choose, and how long in advance you buy the tickets. Seating car starts at 29€, a couchette bed in a shared compartment starts at 49€, and a single-occupancy sleeper cabin will start at 149€. Prices will go up with time, as the train fills up.
      Pro tip: When booking on this specific route compare prices for the 2 parts of the train that go to Vienna. NJ467 (to Vienna) and NJ40467 (to Budapest) are separated in Salzburg, but the part to Budapest also passes through Vienna. It even arrives there earlier (less stops in Austria, so that it has more time for the rest of the way to Budapest). Depending on the occupancy of the separate parts prices can be very different.
      And if you need to arrive in Vienna very early then chose a _seating_ car, as those will form the first day train (EC463) from Salzburg and arrive in Vienna over an hour earlier than the rest of the cars!

    It would be best for your English language viewers to say this is Zurich --> Vienna train. Wien is the German word for Vienna, which many people may not know

      They're using the names that the towns have in their country. It seems respectful to me, considering Kuga's Travel is not a native English speaker. And a lot of viewers aren't either. So why change it for only part of the viewers? Using the true names seems the most logical to me.
      If they don't know the place, they can Google the name and learn something.

      @@plumdutchess Kuga subtitles the videos for an english audience. While I believe saying Wien is acceptable, also I'm German, I understand the request to use vienna.

      @@plumdutchess For the same reason everyone is expected to change their entire belief system and opinion because of a small but loud group.

    Not impressed. In spite of Europe's boasting, Amtrak actually has nicer rooms than this.
