Weird choice as a leader. She was very much a leader for abolition and save many black individuals but she never led the country or was a politician. I guess that mold has been broken perilously but it’s just a strange choice.
You’re right that Firaxis has done a better job in recent games of including lesser known leaders (at least, less known outside of their own country) and I’m fine with Harriet Tubman being included in Civ7. But why they seemed to give her more militaristic and espionage style traits is just strange to me.
Odd that you single her out when Firaxis has had plenty of leaders in their games that did not lead their country or were politicians. Joan of Arc was not a country leader or politician. ....she was literally a 19 year old girl that fought alongside the French. Gandhi was not a head of state or politician. Machiavelli never led Italy nor was he a politician and he's in Civ VII. Kupe of the Maori is a fictional person who was simply an explorer according to myth. Dido and Gilgamesh are not even confirmed to be real people. Yet, no complaints about any of these people. Yet, the one time they put a Black woman and now its "So strange...she doesn't fit." Hmmmm, selective outcry.
@@bigturboweeniehas nothing to do with her being a black woman. I just found it an odd choice as I find some of the ones you listed too. If you read my comment I didn’t diminish her actions as a person. Just felt it was an odd choice considering she never led a country or army. Considering the depth of people they could have chosen from in the USA. Just odd.
@@andrewwilliams7661They gave her the militaristic and espionage playstyle because she actually was in the Union Army as a spymaster and scout during the civil war. If she was a leader, she would likely know a thing or two about the military and espionage. Hope this helps.
@@GPxGP2 I agree. Harriet Tubman is definitely an interesting and important historical figure. She probably isn't very well known outside of North America. She spearheaded the underground railroad, which was a code name for a secret trail from America to Canada, where slaves could escape to a country without slavery. This would explain her ability to travel through vegetated tiles without movement penalties. BUT, I can't help but feel this selection is based on wokeness. It's a huge stretch to call her the leader of a civilization. On the other hand, I can usually look past a bit of wokeness as long as it doesn't interfere with the gameplay, so it's not a very big deal to me.
@@DustinMulligan-w9b Shes not a "woke" choice. She was the first american woman to actually lead a military operation for Colonel James Montgomery. She was a master spy. Occasionally dressed up as a man to infiltrate the south to relay information. She is a prolific woman in history and im extied to play her.
@@DustinMulligan-w9b They said they are officially allowing more types of leaders in the new game, who werent heads of state but still influential. The first leader for America they announced was Benjamin Franklin, who also wasn't a president but still had big impact. We're also getting Confucius for China, who wasn't a ruler either but still represents that culture well, and Machiavelli who people were excited for. So they're doing this with other countries too. Maybe they picked her so you have one famous white american and afro american to choose from for the US, and they both represent the American philosophy of fighting for liberty in a diffrent way and from the different ethnicities. Maybe that's tryna be "woke" or pander to black people, but I think it's neat to have as an option.
Played since Civ II. This solidifies I won't be buying this game. Civ VI sucked too, and this clearly will be worse. This is the best they can pick for AMERICA????
U literally have 2 options for American leaders. HT is an irl folk hero in the US. Seems kinda fragile of u to make this big out of a deal out of the existence of a leader u aren’t even being forced to play, no?
What do you think of the new leader? 🌍

Everybody knows why she was picked. MLK, Douglas, Brown make more sense but they are not women.
Great addition I think she is a great choice
I’m fine with including her but why did they seem to make her a warmonger?
Is Harriet Tubman going to become the newest version of “Nuclear Ghandi”?

She was literally a spy in the American Civil war

How have you never heard of Harriet Tubman ? 😂😂
Well the name doesn't ring a bell for me. Not sure how well known the name is outside of North America and any history/slavery bods.
miss H Tubman sounds like a nice woman
She would of literally just been a nice elder black woman if she was born today
❤❤❤
Bull shit
I kind of expected this one might not be as welcomed as some of the others. It's a peculiar route their taking with this selection of leaders.

Civ 6 was great u mad
America got TWO leaders, her and Benjamin Franklin. There ya go, a white man. You can play as him.
Word guy is a loozer
Benjamin Franklin is also a leader that's playable - why are you so angry about this?
