  • Hello everyone. Welcome to a new video on the channel! In this video, we will be chasing the 9:30am Cairns - Kuranda and 2:00pm Kuranda - Cairns services of the Kuranda Scenic Railway. This railway goes through a rainforest, meaning we will be able to see the train in some beautiful, scenic locations. The railway is owned by Queensland Rail, under their division for tourist and long distance services known as Queensland Rail Travel. The Kuranda Scenic Railway is run by multiple Queensland Rail 1720 Classes built around the mid 1960s. The 1720 Classes that run this railway are some of the last in regular service, as the other 1720 Classes used for freight services have started to show their age. The railway from Cairns to Kuranda was opened in 1891. Currently, the railway is part of the large Tablelands System that goes as far west of Forsayth which used to be a very busy section of railway used by both passenger and freight trains. However, during the late 1980s passenger trains had stopped running and the final freight trains rolled through Kuranda in the mid 2000s. Today, the only trains that run through Kuranda on the Tablelands System is the train in this video which is the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Savannahlander which can be seen in my previous videos. I hope you enjoy the video everyone!
