I ❤️🍾🥂! 😍 The cathedral jogged my memory. I was there when I was 12 and visited with my grandparents. We stopped on our way out of Paris . We saw the cathedral and visited Maison Mumm.
And from today’s Patron Producer: « Il n’y a pas de quoi ! » And a huge « merci » for these countryside tours. I hope it isn’t too long before we Americans are allowed to visit Europe non-virtually. And if not, well, as the song implies: “We’ll always have Paris.”
Stay safe, mon ami. Stay healthy in body and spirit. Don’t burn yourself out. But, within those parameters, keep that camera a-rolling. Right now it’s all we have.
So, since Jay was there on 17 July 2020 (591 years later)....does that make Joan of Arc and King Charles VII the opening act for Jay? :). Just kidding but that was an interesting fact. I didn't realize that she had ever been present during a coronation.
Your opening shot of the pedestrian street with the fountain has a lovely row of restaurants where we had a beautifully champagny lunch 💗 Be back there in 2021!
That lunch looked delectable and will have my mouth watering all day. I think I've been to Reims a long time ago, I mean like 40 years ago. That cathedral looked mighty familiar. I could use a glass of champagne right now.
Excellent info. touring video. Good luck with your stay in France, Mr. Swanson (not many of us can do that) 🤔 ! Another thing not to miss on one's touring in Champagne region is to have Coq au Vin for lunch, it is the cooked chicken piece that melts in one's mouth without much chewing, yet the sauce from red wine supports the meat well until one swallows it down, 🙂 !
Really enjoyed your day trip! We visited Reims 2 years ago and have wonderful memories of the cathedral visit and champagne tour/tasting. Looking forward to the day when Americans are allowed to visit Europe again. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying “traveling” thru your vlogs.
Gaze at the ceiling vault and imagine yourself in Notre Dame in 2030: the roof of Reims Cathedral was completely destroyed in WWI. The 'charpente', ie the rafters, was rebuilt in concrete. After what happened at Nantes Cathedral this morning (roof not damaged but the risk was there) fireproof concrete seems a good idea.
All the feels - thx Jay really enjoyed this vlog! Avec tes vlogs je me souviens bcp choses... Legit soccer mom & dad thanked and asked after exit how I knew it was correct site, told them I had to look up pronunciation doing research for my trip. It looks like one tour is enough if they’re all that comprehensive. Best statement: “You only had one job!” This was in reference to finding a place for lunch. Ha ha ha!
Well, Champaign, fine dining and a gorgeous lady. Grandma must be happy. What a fun trip, definitively worth it. I'm getting more inclined to explore outside Paris on my next trip. Whenever that happens 🙄
Waking up to champagne....even if it's only virtual champagne is a great way to start my day. Those deep caves were amazing and the light show was a delight, too. I'm trying not to dwell too much on the fact that today was the day I was originally scheduled to do the champagne tour with Bike About Tours. I'm holding out hope for next July. This also reminded me that after I lived for a year in Paris for the first time, I used to tell my friends that the most valuable thing I learned was how to properly open champagne (hold the cork and twist the bottle). Thank you again for including us all in your life. Now I'm wondering if I should do some champagne with my scrambled eggs and fresh berries....hmmmm. (The answer is yes.)

Thanks for these day trip videos. Sorry you missed your second tasting but I am sure it will happen soon. Just spent a few minutes after watching to see what other day trip locations there are close to Paris. I was in Paris for a week and a 1/2 two years ago - took my Mom for her first trip to Europe ever at the young age of 82, stayed near Gare de Lyon. We also spent a week in Mirepoix and a night in Toulouse. From Mirepoix we made day trips each day in a rental car. I had lived in a small village in Arieges, Varilhes, many years ago with my grandfather for a few months. On another trip years ago I stayed in a friend's apt. on Rue Mouffetard for a week and a 1/2. I have been to Paris a few times but will spend more time there once I move to Europe within the next two years. My home base will probably be Spain, not completely certain yet. Good luck on your French citizenship goal!
I stayed in Reims last summer and squeezed in tour of Mumm in the morning and an afternoon tour of three other Champagne houses in the nearby vineyards. What can I say, I’m Australian, cheers 🥂🍾🤣
For my birthday I had this whole “wine country” trip planned for this weekend. The big 3-0. Obviously this isn’t gonna happen due to, ya know, the world. I can’t believe you did a champagne tasting and that’s all I would love to do!! I feels like fate. A present to specifically me. 😊 This video just made my freaking day. Thanks for the epic timing.
If you ever go tasting in EPERNAY, there are two really good independent producers, Gonet-Sulcova and Saint-Chamant. We discovered them at the Salon du Vin, Vignerons Independants, this year Dec 3-6 at Porte de Versailles. Bummer, we will miss it again this year since they changed the dates. 😢
You guys are so cute! I went to a champagne house a decade ago (don’t remember which one due to brain cell damage) but found it very interesting! Loved her bringing up that if you go “that way” you’ll end up in Europe! Good to know.
Could you share you camera gear set up you use when doing a day trip? I'd like to develop my other aviation RUclips channel and I'm a fan of you and your style.
Hi Jay, NEVER miss an opportunity to see the caves of Pommery! The caves at Ruinart are great but the ones at Pommery are the best in Champagne in my opinion. Sadly, the champagne is not, but the cave are not to be missed.
Jay, love this episode. Where to book the trip to Dom Perignon if already in Reims? I am planing a trip this September and want to visit Reims for 2 days.
One champagne house is enough - they all do the same thing. Rheims cathedral is fascinating though and you could probably do several days in that. There is the location where the end of hostilities in the second world war was signed on 08 May 1945 in Rheims. I say it the English way when it is spelt "Rheims" and the French way when it is spelt "Reims" - though my partner is German and makes a completely different vowel sound and a clear m - not a nasal vowel.
There were tons of banners on the walls highlighting different historical events that had taken place in the cathedral. It was amazing - I feel like there's a solid book's worth of material just within those four(hundred?) walls.
@@JaySwanson When my family went camping in Europe from Britain. We got off the hovercraft at Calais and my father drove to Rheims so every holiday started with a trip to something nearby before heading off for Northern Italy.

Jay does it all. Juggling two glasses, recording and entertaining the lady. Good to see you back in form.
Haha, glad to be back in form =D
And cracking jokes with the other tourists
When I visited France, I booked an Air B&B experience in Reims for a day of Champagne. It was the highlight of my trip.
I really enjoyed it
I ❤️🍾🥂! 😍 The cathedral jogged my memory. I was there when I was 12 and visited with my grandparents. We stopped on our way out of Paris . We saw the cathedral and visited Maison Mumm.
There was a lady at the train station with a sign for Mumm picking people up for a tour and I immediately got jealous haha
My travel pal and I went to Maison Mumm for our tasting. Really chillax place. They had a special rosé champagne collabo (Foujita) that was delish!

Thank you for the very lovely day trip (drinking giggles and all) and thumbs up to the lovely lady.......skipping in the vineyard!!
Skipping through the vines was a must haha
Taittengier is a really nice house to visit the next time you’re in Reims. It’s still family owned.
🍾🍾

It's where we wound up sitting to work until our train (cancelled 😆) was ready to go
We’ve been there. Last year. ‘Runce’ is how I remember. Went on the Moët tour. Thx for reminding me. Sooooo want to go back.
I'd definitely go back for another house.
Two thumbs up for this video!!! Brought back good memories of my visit to Reims years ago. Thank you for this video!
