I have done 170,000km in my 182 Leaf. Its been absolutely fantastic. Zero issues. Seriously considering the revamped version in 2024/25. Price dependant obviously!
Great to hear !
That's pretty awesome wow.
Have this 40KWh model in 222 reg. Superb urban car. Good economy, cheap to charge at home. I've found most applegreens or motorway service stations have the required fast chargers so non-issue for me atm although I rarely leave Dublin.
How do you find charging points in Dublin? What map tools?
I visit from the UK for work and I’m angling the boss to hire me an EV, not as familiar with the networks and mapping apps for Ireland.
Ecar connect is a good one, or A Better Route planner app. Most EVs will have it built in to their SatNav
Ye been living with the 58kw one for 2 years and love it changing it for an xc30 in the Autumn totally agree with your points also the cc charger is 7.4 kw also for home charging the main point is the price way to expensive for 2024
On my second Leaf 40 and yes I would definitely like the 59/62, a very good motor that does what it's supposed to without issue, Tekna speck is brilliant even autopark though I don't use it, a very underrated vehicle full of technology.
Secondhand market is where this car is. Its tech is no longer anywhere near today’s cars but second hand market is a buyers market. £12k for a low mileage 2 year old car is crazy.
Just bought an SV Plus in 🇨🇦 🍁 love the car not going back to gas...I just trickle charge at home
..back and forth to work everyday...got the white color!
I have done over 104000miles in two leafs. A 30Kw and a 40Kw, I was going to change to a different EV this time but when I went to the dealership after leasing the first two, I just bought a 60Kw ex demonstrator for half the original price with only 5000miles on the clock. OMG, I know that this car will last me for years as a second car. Very very pleased!
Lots of 62kWh Leafs for cheap on carwow and autotrader in the uk. Pity they’re still not in the eu.
We bought the 40Kwh six months ago as our first EV. We moved from a couple of Qashqais previously and my wife loves the familiarity of the Nissan. We charge at home and rarely do any thing more than 30 miles so it's perfect for us. Nice to see some competition coming through for our next update in a couple of years. My biggest concern is the CHADEMO.. Nissan should be looking to sell an adapter for CCS if they want people to buy this car in the used market. The highlights for me are being able to warm the car up and defrost it from my bed and running a car for 2p per mile. Finally, we've been getting over 5 miles per kilowatt Strangely, when we use the e-pedal that drops below the magical five. Still loving it though.
Sometimes just having no regen on can maintain range better! Sounds like ideal car for you so.
Ta for this.
About to trade in my qashqi and looking at a 2nd had.
Was an ex demo on there £12k not most £16K for less than 500 miles.
Like u we go less than 10 miles per day will go to 30 miles next month.
I am on my third Leaf over 7 tears of Electric driving. Never had any problems with them. The 62 Kw one will see off many of the newer cars regarding performance and purchase cost.
Won't go back to petrol or diesel.
I own e+n connector 62kw and love it,The only thing I don't like is the Sat nav can pick up the wrong speed when passing side roads, All in all though it was a good move.
Got me a 2024 SV PLUS (60KWh battery) for under $33K out the door today, highly recommended for those who this type of car is the right fit.
Thanks!
Recently bought a 161 in highest spec with original 24kwh as second car for local trips only. Have a 58kWh Ioniq5 for long distance. Leaf is perfect for this use case in my opinion. Especially when you compare it to ICE alternatives at the same price it’s a no brainer from a spec, size and running costs perspective.
Wouldn’t touch a new one though. Nissan need to take the same approach as say VW and discount heavily. A new E-Up with 32kwh battery can be got for under €18k at the moment. It’s RRP was nearly €30k 🤯
Winter range on the "40kWh" Leaf is quite uncompetitive now. The usable range on the 40 is 36kWh. Assuming that you only want to use 90% of that battery (nobody wants to see the turtle mode while driving on the highway..) and you will likely only get 3 miles / kWh in cold and wet conditions = usable range of just 97 miles. If you factor-in some battery degradation after a couple of years, that will go down by another 10 miles. As a fair weather commuter EV for short journeys, it's fine. But for longer journeys, it's not really viable.
Exactly right, and if you're leaving a bit in reserve in case the charger you're heading for doesn't work, then you're down to about 75-80 mile hops which isn't great. And then there's the very slow charging and overheating to contend with. It really isn't suitable for longer trips (the 40).
No EV is good for longer journeys. A beater diesel from 2005 will wipe the floor with the highest spec 2024 EV on a long journey.
@@christinemurray1444 yes, but diesel cars are being phased out, so it's good that longer range EVs are becoming available. It's not difficult to charge up with a modern EV. Everybody needs to stop after about 200 miles, or should do anyway.
Bought the 40KWh new in 2021, loved it but traded it in for an ID4 in August. Chademo was my main concern as I was going to keep the car long term. I would recommend the Leaf to anyone but you need to know that the range is really about 200kms in mixed driving and 250+ in just city driving. I am glad I changed to the ID4 but it was nearly twice the price.
I believe the Leaf ALSO has the CCS 1772 port next to the ChaToMo port. Works with Level 2.
Just bought a new Leaf 40kwh, and even though I live in Indonesia (which is considerably hotter in terms of weather) I do get around the same numbers on the kwh/100km! Though I feel like a bit of a knob, buying a Japanese import Leaf over a locally assembled Ioniq5 base model standard range that's only 2500 euro more expensive. Then again the Ioniq5 is a bit too wide for our roads, and the base model didn't came with 360 camera so it's going to be a bit of a hassle navigating it on tight roads. Overall, its our family's second car and the range is enough for us to putter around town. Most charging points here are AC, so I can still charge almost anywhere I go but not as quick obviously.
Can you say something more about bot being able to use CHAdeMO in the north? I live in the North and I have not had any trouble with CHAdeMO. I think those chargers are available quite well.
I have the nconnecta 40 kWh model.
Great you done this lad as we seen one last night they selling for £18k now up in the north.
This is the price they should be at with the Mg4 and BYD dolphin basic trim £25k.
Still tempted to get love a bargain.
I have the 40kWh SVE in the 2022 facelift. Love it, excellent urban car, but since recently moving over 200km outside of Dublin and needing to do that round trip every few weeks, the range is well below my needs now. This wasn't the case when I bought it, just had a lot unexpected changes in the last year. Originally I was planning to buy it out when the PCP is up, hoping for a good trade value or sell it privately, but they've depreciated massively this year and I don't see that being worth trying anymore - by 2025 it might be extremely hard to sell with CHAdeMO and uncompetitive range vs alternatives, so maybe handing the keys back will be the best thing.
Plenty of Chad chargers in the UK (leaf owner) :) you will never struggle to be honest, a lot less then CSS know, but thankfully less competition. Also they now sell CCS to Chad adaptors (a bit pricy) but an option.
Had a 30kWh Leaf and the second hand prices for the 40KWh made it a good deal for my commuting needs.
You could buy it today but could you trade in or sell one in 3 or 5 years time, for a decent price? I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Big battery over 40k? Tesla's inventory online today has a well configured Model Y for 45.5k. Thanks for the review. What are Nissan thinking?
I have a 2018 40 kWh LEAF - I love driving the car, but I have started thinking about replacing it. 207,000 kms now and I am worrying a little about how much longer the battery will last. Plus CHAdeMO, slow “fast” charging, some chargers do not have CHAdeMO. I am not serious about replacing it yet though. I bought it second hand, I would not buy one new at current prices.
The floating roof idea is about as appealing as Xmas decorations in February .
The Leaf is being discontinued in part so that Nissan can shift focus to its new EV that just launched, the Nissan Ariya.
Not entirely true, the third generation Leaf is on the way!
@@kevinweastwoodit’s a maybe Leaf, apparently the successor was originally to be the Micra EV. They could easily knock its out of the park if they did the Micra as their B, New LEAF as their C and the Ariya as the D or higher. A juke EV is rumoured so god knows where it would sit.
It’s all down to whether they want to muddy the name of their ICE cars with EV.
In hindsight VW should have stuck with the E-Golf.
Yes this car is VERY relevant, but... only on a second hand market.
Absolutely a great video, really informative 👍 👏
Glad it was helpful!
In winter in minus temperatures, doing just some short journeys around 2-5 miles, your efficiency will drop to around 2 mil/kw or sometimes even less. Sometimes it's hard to squeeze 70 miles on the full charge from my 40kw Nissan Leaf. In the summer I can do 120 miles no problem. In next year I am planning to get an Mg4. Much better choice.
That's very bad what year leaf r u using? Thanks
@@bitet1 2019 40kwh battery. 34k on the odometer. SOH 91.3% according to the Leaf Spy. In the summer there is no problem, but in winter short journeys are killing your range, because the battery is cold and you are running the heating, heated steering wheel and the seats. I was thinking about getting the MG4 , but ended up buying a Kona EV facelift 2022 64kwh.
Good analysis thanks for your effort. Im gonna watch more videos.
Have u done volvo ex30

I’ve had mine just over 3 years. When I got it, nothing could touch it in terms of bang for buck.
I’ve clocked 11000mi in 6 months driving south for work.
I wouldn’t buy one new now. It’s not the value it once was, and I’d probably opt now to go with CCS and a bit faster charging.
If all Nissan did was change to CCS and maybe put in some thermal cooling to the battery pack, they could compete at about 25k, trading on the badge and Leaf history alone they’d sell like hotcakes.
Hello Sir, when the charging cable connected the charge indicator light illuminate in sequence and then stop, what we need to do to bring it in charging mode
charger timer is on...
love my 2023 Leaf
Would you say it's better suited to an older/retiree driver who only needs a simple efficient EV, shorter journeys, home charging, prefers physical buttons, etc?
Absolutely yeah.
@@NobbyOnCars Contrary to popular beliefs, us Older/Retirees are car geeks too..with many younger non-car people about as appreciative of a car as to a Magic bullet food processor!. 😝
Looking at
Bought an E+ Tekna 2022 with 22k miles for £18k. Crazy pricing right now.
You'd be unwise to use the Leaf as a taxi these days. Limited range, and public charging is too slow for daily top-ups. Ioniq 38 kWh or MG5 would be better option.
Rarely see Ioniq in a taxi oddly - plenty of MG5 though and actually, still plenty of Leafs
@@NobbyOnCars I've seen a few over in UK. Very popular.. but mostly the hybrid models
All I can say particularly as I do live in the North that it'd be a definite no for this one based on the older charging tech and the price alone not to mention insurance costs. My brother who lives across the water uses these cars occasionally in work but in his case they're work vehicles and so the company has charging for them negating the poor infrastructure for chademo. The price for these will I do agree have to come down if for no other reason than there's a new one on the way and as is the case with alot of newer cars it's going to be an SUV, not sure when it's being released but as and when it's announced given the older tech that the current Leaf has I'd expect the current model to come down after that.
You are right, price to too high given the competition
Used to own one , they’re really only good for pensioners who just want to potter around the same old town . Own a Tesla mod 3 now , worlds appart😊
very much so :)
I still would, they're good value although the 1st gen was more interesting/quirky, the latest model looks very sedate/boring.....I loved my 2015 24kw Leaf Tekna, used to drive it from Dublin to Limerick with loads of IKEA furniture....literally packed 2 double beds and 1 double mattress into 1.....couldn't do that with a saloon Tesla
Jeepers 🤣
Brave man! Limerick Dublin Limerick on 24kW… that’s commitment right there, man!
I purchased a used 40kWh ZE1 in July 2021. Last year a local consumer electronics dealer had Panasonic 65" OLEDs on special offer. I couldn't resist. It fitted into my Leaf, including the cardboard packaging.😊
Ah yeah competition is too good now. 35,000 for 40kwh battery when you can get 60kwh for around the same money.
It can't be a dinosaur, ice cars are the dinosaurs!
You're right. Its solid, but old tech. Price is way off. Match byd exactly with spec and price , then let buyer choose.
But chademo and more expensive? And older battery chemistry? I think youre being too kind for the sake of keeping nissan sweet. This is unfortunately an un-sellable car in 3 years.
I’ve no interest in keeping anyone sweet, all I have is my opinion.
We were looking at electric cars last weekend in the showrooms, and we came across this, my missus loved it, i have now filed for divorce.....We got the ID4 instead....
Love my leaf… but it’s not a car for long trips. In town use only
Everybody I inow with a Leaf are very happy with it.
I just rode on Leafs as a TVDE client and i was imoressed.
Very quiet.
Spacious enough.
High quality materials.
Good ergonomics etc.
As a matter of comparison, I have also rode in the e-C4 (much lighter inside and even more comfortable but not so good materials...they are ok, just not excellent) and the Tesla 3.
The Tesla is in my opinion the worse of the 3. To harsh of a ride, worst ergonomics, not enough space, horrible plastics that aged badly and bad fit and finish.
I like this one but... I pretty only drive on motorways for distances of around 380km so, this is still not for me.
It is true. 5 of my colleagues leased and then ended up buying. Best car ever for the price! Build quality is solid even if I look like a knob driving it :). Prices dropping like a stone. Really loving my Tekna E+ that I paid less than half asking price from 20 months ago on my lease!
The looks remind me of the old Nissan Tiida hatchback 🙈
Well spotted - the Leaf was based on the Tiida subframe- don’t know how much Tiida is left after the various Leaf updates.
Pretty sure the Tulsa was used as the mule test bed for the Leaf prototypes.
Not a viable choice anymore.... There's way better and cheaper EVs on the market and when you factor in Chademo charging and the very poor battery management/cooling it's completely off the pace. Only buy if you plan to run it into the ground, used values in a few years don't bear thinking about!
Àt that price they deserve to sell zero of these.
Он неслабо сосет по сравнению с бюджетными BYD 😅
Doesn’t have rapid charging and I can’t get to go and see family over 259 miles away in this
Even at cautious motorway speed, very few current EVs will get you 259 miles without a booster charge, even at summer temperatures. If you stop for a coffee and a high speed charge the Leaf will get you down to the Mammy’s as quickly as most other EVs.
Road Trips in an EV require planning. I take multiple trips between NY and OH (USA) 460 miles each way, in the SV Plus. There are just enough and a couple to spare ChaDeMo charging stations. I use various apps, such as ABRP (A Better Route Planner), Plug Share and Leaf Spy Pro, to reduce my range anxiety. As there is one section going up a mountain that has me pulling into the charging station with 1% or less on the dashboard (GOM), with Leaf Spy Pro telling me I can go another 15 miles before I get the an actual 1% SOC.
@@sheehan2116the 40 will need more than one stop and it charges very slow once you're above 65% or so. I wouldn't recommend 260 mile trips in it, and definitely not in winter, it's just too slow and painful.
Nissan mechanics don't want to work on these vehicles. My Leaf had a short. Mechanic couldn't find the problem. $1600 to start diagnosing. No way, I'm out. Nissan stinks.
Would never buy one, outdated and as you mention still overpriced compared to the modern competition,Second hand/ trade in values are brutal as dealers don’t seem to want them, chademo is on its last legs.. ps when are you reviewing the mg4 xpower?…
MG waiting for 2024 to register one
I hate the way this car looks , I wish Nissan would create a Nissan Sentra EV or hybrid ! The leaf looks horrible !
Nissan is simply boring. It's rather disappointing that Nissan is still recycling old parts on new models instead of upgrading the Leaf's interior and exterior with new styling, an upgraded dashboard, and a better user interface. The interior is still outdated, and the exterior looks exactly the same-nothing truly captivating about it. They need to change the front fascia and the rear design; at least give it the Ariya's DNA or something.
