I think a popular theory is that much of the Poison music video is what Angel is imagining as he "disassociates and disappears" through what Val is ACTUALLY doing to him that day
As a person with a dissociative disorder, feel that theory holds a lot of water. That is what dissociating is like. Especially looking back on the events. All you can clearly remember is what you imagined. Like your brain didn’t bother recording reality clearly.
The parts of it where he is dancing around maybe. But there was an awful lot where you would cringe in fear for a moment before putting his mask back on. The disassociation isn't perfect. He knows exactly what is being done to him. The second chorus is to him screaming, not singing. And at the end of the night... he knows. And wishes he were dead. It's also why he tries so hard to mess himself up with drugs and alcohol and letting people drug him... he wants to ruin himself so badly that Val will let him go. Angel knows full well what is happening.

For clarity's sake, Husk was a demon who rose to Overlord status by gambling but then ran DEEP into debt with the wrong crowd trying to hold onto his power after a bad run of luck. When they started sending creditors after him to take their earnings out of his flesh he decided to risk it all on one last hand of cards. If he won, Alastor would pay off all his depts and he would keep his power as an overlord. If he lost, which he did, Alastor would get his eternal soul and hold all his creditors at bay with his reputation.

I think it's AngelDust full form as most demon when they get emotional parts of their "full form" start to come out, more powerful demons have bigger and stronger ones that show off more.
Personally I like most people missed that detail on the first watch as this series has so much good background details.

No, Val can't hurt Charlie in any way. She would utterly destroy him if she wanted to. The point is Angel is afraid for her... which should tell you about how Valentino has treated him. It also shows just how much he cares about her... begging Val to not hurt her. And Angel fighting with all he has to not break down in tears having to be mean to Charlie and kick her out. You can hear his voice failing him. It's heart breaking.
If Charlie didn't spike him and his limbs to separate walls then he would have some serious issues when *Daddy* found out his baby girl was being hurt by some wannabe Overlord bug and smash him and his buddies into the deeper parts of hell which I believe are a thing that exist.
Also Val cant hurt charlie but val CAN HURT angel which in the process would hurt Charlie emotionally.
My heart was breaking for Kirby as I watched her physically reacting to abuse in this one. I don't know what happened to you, but I'm sorry it did.

If you look carefully vox actually had to turn the brightness up on his screen in ep2 to get Val’s attention when he wanted to change to the hotel

No, he wasn't faking looking rough the next morning. Val told him they were going to shoot all night long, without stop. ROUGH, HARD stuff. Non consensual since Val literally owns his soul and can force him to do whatever he wants. Val also raped Angel multiple times throughout the night if you watch. Drugs, all over. It is a deeply disturbing and messed up night set over one of the best songs in the entire show. And he is rough the next morning. But see just how fast he puts that mask back on? That's the name of the episode. Masquerade. Angel is masquerading the whole time. You see it crack during the song multiple times but he puts it back on instantly. Imagine what he has to do mentally to function even minimally every day.
And as painful as Poison is, it's the talk between Husk and Angel outside of the bar that really drives it home. Angel is completely self destructing, trying so hard to completely wreck himself. The tears in his eyes as he screams about how painful it all is, and then the quiet voice at the end, "maybe he won't want me as his favorite toy anymore." GOD the VA for Angel is phenomenally good.

This is a fun, yet unnerving fact. You notice when Valentino spits up red gunk from his mouth occasionally or when he smokes the cigarette has regular smoke while when Val exhales it’s red. That’s because like real world moths and other such insects they secrete pheromones. When he licked Charlie, he tried to turn her into one of his sex workers, I don’t know what the term is for it but because she’s half human, half angel, and part demon she was immune to his advances and to his pheromones. That’s how Valentino has so many underlings in the adult film industry, how he got Angel to sell his soul to him, and why he became an Overlord of Hell. He knows how to manipulate others with his tantalizing saliva, which is not only disgusting but it’s genuinely terrifying. That’s the “poison” that Angel was referring to. Val saying this in Episode 2 supports this fact as well… “Just put something inside them, that’s how I get the bitches to behave.”
Furthermore that Loan Shark who tried to spike Angel’s drink had a love potion, that love potion was actually made by Velvette, another one of the Vees by using Valentino’s saliva. Yeah I think it’s safe to say that not only is he the one of the most cruel and evil Overlords and sinners in Hell, but he might very well be the most dangerous of the Vees, even more so than Vox.
Much lighter-hearted fact, Val actually squeaks when he moves sometimes like how real Moths do. If you go back to the previous episodes and listen closely you can hear squeaking in any scene he’s in.
That is actually very creepy. I realized Valentino breathes out red but I never thought it actually had meaning.

And the love potion used in the bar.. is made from Valentino's pheremones by Velvette (2 ad posters seen in episode two, one with Val and one with Vel for Love Potion by Velvette).
He's definitely the most sinister and morally reprehensible, but I wouldnt say he's the most dangerous until we see him fight or throw around someone who isnt a quarter of his weight the way Angel is

It definitely is a trigger warning that affects people differently. All the SA and physical Abuse in the song, especially if you pause it a lot, has huge impacts on people. The music is amazing though. This was a huge turning point for Angel, to trauma bond and not be alone. The hotel is working! Now Episode 5 is quite possibly my favorite of all, though I love the whole series. Those with Daddy issues get it lol. Hope its released next week but I get it if it gets delayed. I am always looking forward to your reactions!
Amazon/A24 did an amazing thing here... they released the lyric video for Poison just a few days before eps 1-4. So everyone was jamming to this banger of a track for days. EATING it up. Absolutely raving over it. And then we all watched episode 4... and suddenly we all felt extremely dirty for liking that song. They hit us with a real world thing to really make us feel the impact of Angel's life even more.

This episode was definitely something we all need , Vizipop knows how to blend dark subject with Humour and comfort. Also I relate to Husk so much , always listening to people’s problems, everyone opening up to me and I do what I can for help ,
What killed me about Poison is if you watch the monitors during the song, it shows the hell Angel is going through, even though he put on a happy face, his life is tragic. This whole series is just stellar.
When angel and husk walk back into the hotel angels talking about how some guy was "counting like three bills, and it took him 30 minutes to count it" he's talking about valentino in the limo segment of the addict music video
All because of valentino's eyes being shit

People forget that Angel is a NY mafia guy. Fairly high up based on his life style before death. Lots of sex and drugs. He loves the Tommy Gun. You can see Anthony leaning out of the window of a car shooting at the cops.
I mean, he was son of the mafia boss (thus the spider-like appearance he and rest of his family has, reference to their web of crimes), and he wasn´t disliking that lifestyle.
The problem is, he was/is gay, and that was a big no-no, especialy in the 40s when he died. He was of course scared to admit it (probably even to himself), so he tried to get away from this with drugs... until one day, he overdosed.

That part always makes me laugh.
Also, the shark demons remind me of some of Crimsons goons in Helluva Boss.

Husker-dust, A team up made in hell. This episode was an emotional rollercoaster. Then, when you think you've hit the bottom, Loser Baby hit and become one of my all time favorite songs.

The reason so much of the imagery during Poison looked like a music video was because Angel was disassociating.

8:19 This scene scares the crap out of me every time. The pure, furious _violence_ radiating off of Valentino in this moment. You feel the helplessness in Angel's eyes. Charlie is the best case scenario for someone outside trying to help, she's Princess of Hell, has a good heart, the best intentions, unbelievable power, limitless wealth & influence; but all Valentino has to do is put on a public face for her and then take out his wrath on Angel behind closed doors. Having Charlie in his corner has made it worse, and it's heartbreaking to see it play out.
Unless she utterly lays waste to Valentino. She could do it. And as she continues to grow into who she is... I think she'll realize her power doesn't necessarily make her a bad person. It's how you use it that defines you. All she has ever known are horrific evil uses of power. So Valentino may be on a comeuppance list.
Oh yeah this episode, be prepared guys.
This episode was fantastic, albeit really dark, but can we take a second to talk about Kyle? He was constantly monitoring Kirby's face and body language, making sure she was okay and doing his best to comfort her as best he could.
He was even willing to stop the video, completely aware that he would make less money for it/make fans mad, all to make sure she was comfortable and not get overwhelmed. That's an attentive partner.
I don't know what happened to you, Kirby, but I hope things get better for you and I wish you both happiness together in the future.

Oh what makes the fact of him licking her so much worse is that it's heavily suggested that it contains pheromones, the same kind that has the smoke effect from 'Addict', and what Velvet makes her love potions with. Like what the shark tries to spike Angel's drink with. It's all manner of unsettling.
Also, to quote AliciaxDeath, "Poison broke me so Loser baby can heal me." She's sure as hell not wrong.

I absolutely love the relationship that builds out of this episode for Angel and Husk. Reminding Angel that he doesn't need to put on that show for others and just be himself, he'll still have a true friend in Husk who sees him for who he really is and never judges him for his position. He treats Angel as a friend and someone worth respect instead of another plaything. I get why people like to ship them after this episode but it never came across that way for me. Just people who bond and become a brilliant team together
I love husk he so caring to angel not only protecting him from the puke but also he makes it a point to never grab him he only reaches out and letting angel grab his hand(other then the dragging out of the club which was for his protection and he still let go as soon as he was away from the problem

First of all, the songs are a fucking banger! Blake Roman and Keith David knocked it out of the park with Poison and Loser Baby!
This episode goes into some really, REALLY uncomfortable places not often depicted in media! Showing Angel's physical and sexual abuse from Valentino and how he overindulges in drugs and alcohol to escape the pain of his abuser is absolutely heartbreaking! The worst part is that this is a scarily accurate depiction of abuse in the sex industry! Major props to Viv's team for handling such a sensitive topic!
It was wonderful to see both Kyle and Kirby reacting to the video, assuming Kyle doesn't pre-watch, it was nice to not have the tremendously accurate foresight 😂 Can't wait to see you both continuing to react!

Watching the two of them react to Husk and Angel revealed a bit more than I think these content creators intended it to. I can't say I haven't been there, though. It's strange how a coping mechanism that's helped you survive for so long can suddenly shift into something deeply unhealthy and dangerous when you see another person doing the same thing. Therapy taught me that having used self-destructive coping mechanisms doesn't mean you're a bad person or to blame. The trauma that led to the self-destructive habits or even the habits themselves don't have to be the exact same as Angel's. I relate to the abusive situation Angel's in even though it's not 1 to 1 and my coping habits weren't the same as his. Regardless, when you're in difficult or dangerous situations even deeply unhealthy coping strategies were valid if they helped you survive long enough to escape.
Once you're in a safer environment, however, it's time to learn safer and healthier ones before the things that saved you then destroy you now. It's a hard road to unlearn that stuff but therapy is a godsend and I can't recommend it enough. It honestly does help whether your issues seem minor to you or not.
I may not be a psychologist, even though I'm really good at talking to people about their problems and helping them feel better, but Angel's reactions to Val and Charlie are all things i would assume victems of abuse would try to do: avoid any more abuse even if the person trying to help could fix the problem. Charlie could EASILY beat Val, but Angel is stopping her cause abuse victoms never think they can get out. That's the real sad part about Angel: he thinks no one can help him..
Thankfully, Husk pulls him out of that mindset and, thankfully, gets better. Even if it is a very tiny step forward, but that's what you do.

Yeah, it is all laid out in flashes and clips. Each time the "bad" starts to take center screen, you see Angel do another drug of some sort, and the front and center of the vid gets more "fun" again.

There's something in Valentino's spit that makes it red - it also comes out in his cigarette smoke. I think that's what he was talking about when he said "put something inside him, it's how I get the b***es to behave". SO when he licked Charlie's arm and then offered her a job he was trying to......yeah..........it didn't work in Charlie's case because her father is Lucifer, either it's got something to do with his being King of Hell or it has something to do with he fact that he was an angel (and may still be), either way she's protected, others aren't.

Important Correction!!! Trauma bonding is not when you bond over shared traumas. Trauma bonding IS when a victim of abuse gets emotionally attached to someone who abuses them.
Here's hoping season 2 kills/humiliates Val in all the ways he violates others. I personally would love for Charlie herself to take Angels' contract with Val and destroy it.
