Nikon users have long memories, because many of us are just older. We remember numerous videos in which your judgements of Nikon have been rather harsh, and sometimes just incorrect. Then you would release glowing reviews/advertisements for the latest Sony releases. Your biases have been easy to see, and you did get more than a little petty after Nikon stopped sending you pre-release gear to review. Also, many of us haven't forgotten the trolling posts you made on Nikonrumors. Many of my fellow Nikon users just ignore you now, but I don't. You two still post some good videos, particularly the recent ones about Adobe and DxO. I just take anything you post about Nikon with a giant boulder of salt. And this video proves me right in doing so.
Yes, Tony has been pretty hard on Nikon (and I shoot and love Nikon), but where there's smoke, there's fire. Let's face it, we've had a lot of problems with Nikon's mirrorless AF system. How many firmware updates has the Z9 had? The camera was half-baked at launch, to put it mildly. Nikon had to play 'catch up' for quite some time before getting to an acceptable level. To this day (and I still have all my pro reflexes) my Z6II has AF problems. The few firmware upgrades haven't solved the problem (and if I want better AF I'll have to upgrade to a Z8 or 9 or 6III) because the dual processor in my Z6II is still unreliable. And sometimes it works. Ethics dictate that when you spend £1,600 on a camera, even if the firmware isn't ready and Nikon decides to release it anyway, the manufacturer has to fix these problems as soon as possible, because the money we spent didn't 'need' a firmware upgrade. Nikon did not behave properly towards its customers. I'm sorry, but this is what happened with the old 6 and 7 series. And now the 7 has been discontinued as well... 5,6,?? 8 and 9? Who on earth is making these decisions at Nikon in Tokyo?
@@enricomarconi8358 I wonder why DPreview ranked the AF of the Z9 as of firmware 1.0 better than the a1 and R3... you must not have owned a Z9 if you think it was halfbaked. I got mine on 24-Dec 2021 and it has rocked ever since. Has it become even better? Yes for sure.
@@bernardlanguillier7970 Let's not kid ourselves, if we are now at firmware 5.1 there is a reason - and we all know what it is. NOW you could say that the AF is kinda of working, yet the A1 Mark II or A9 II is still blowing the Nikon out of the water (sadly). Ah, I forgot. I shoot Nikon and love Nikon (will never buy a Sony) but let's give credit where credit is due. Sony is the leader in the market at the moment (as much as I bite my tongue telling you this as I find Nikon files way superior to anyone else in the business - Hassy and Phase One excluded - that is).
@@enricomarconi8358 know we don't all know that that is. Most of the firmware releases for the z9 included new features that weren't even listed when the camera shipped, that includes the unique and super valuable auto capture for example. Was the AF also further improved? Definitely yes and it progressed way more than that of the a1/R3 although they were very similar at the start (again as DPreview correctly reported back early 2022). The AF of the Z9 is way more than kind of working. It is still incredibly good and perfect for the most demanding applications. Certainly not 100% as good as that of cameras 3 years younger, but still totally brilliant for actually photography work.
@@enricomarconi8358 , That is very strange since most of the worlds top nature/wildlife photographers use Nikon? If you can`t focus with a Nikon Z body you better apply for a photography class.
Not saying much, if there's no new (high-end) camera from the competition - I say high-end because generally, its the most exciting gear but I guess something unique and very different could potentially win camera of the year.
Go watch the Z6iii video. Compare Tony's tests he used to quantify the Noise and rolling shutter. That rolling shutter test is unlike one anyone else has ever done, Even other Northup Rolling shutter tests...
Nah, "Fanboys" are the worst in general - there's no reason, ever, to support a brand blindly and not consider alternatives. As a consumer, you're just feeding into brands not giving you the best value for your money by blindly supporting them.
Well said! Blind brand loyalty is clownish and toxic. No brand ever pays me. I'll buy Nikon today, Fuji tomorrow, Pentax next week. If they make what I want, that's what I'm buying!
Your reviews of Nikon products leaves a lot to be desired . You come off as someone who really didn’t do an in-depth job before reviewing the gears. This is the reason you are getting lots of heats from Nikon fans .
I do think you posted a rather uninformed video a few years ago questioning if Nikon will stay in business because of the losses in their financial report. There was nothing in there that even remotely indicated Nikon wouldn’t survive as a company, but you helped hype that rumor. It doesn’t surprise me that both the Nikon company and Nikon users question the integrity of your other content.
At the time, it was when there was the z6 and z7, no sign of the z9, Nikon was clearly behind canon, not to mention sony…. And based on available data it seemed like they were in trouble, and Nikon drops the z9 and z8, and things changed as a result…
High school graduation, 1974- bought myself a Nikon F2. 1978…the F2A. Since then , ALL Nikon gear. Why? Because I’m too fucking lazy to switch. !!! AND…. I realized that the best camera is…between your ears. IDEAS. Scenes. Concepts.
I did something similar, but I bought a Canon A1 a decade after you. Biggest reason, I got it second hand for a good price. Since then it has been Canon. And you are right, it's not the gear it's the person using it that makes the biggest difference.
As you bring up your testing. I watched the Nikon ZF review again. You didn‘t compare the files with Fujifilm that you were promoting as the better choice. Maybe you didn‘t mean to say that but the way you present the camera and alternatives it comes of as Fuji being the better choice in nearly every way. I think the critiques in the comments are fair and calling all critics fanboys is a very cheap tactic to dodge criticism. Your script seemed so focused on promoting KEH that the actual review was mediocre. I‘m not saying that you were wrong with the weaknesses you pointed out but the actual strengths you just didn‘t care to put in: MF assist tools, files, full frame vs aps-c (should have been there when you bring up Fuji so much), AF comparison, etc.
I do know a number of Nikon shooters (myself included) who will say this particular camera body does what i need with these great features, and I enjoy using it. My most recent experience, i was at an event with various levels of photographers and was asked what i shoot. I shoot Nikon and was then harrassed by 3 Canon shooters telling me my gear was no good. I said, "Use what you enjoy they are all just boxes that capture light." Just enjoy the photography. Still got smack talked at repeatedly throughput the event. I just ignored them. Funny thing they were shooting Canon Rebel dslrs while i was using a Nikon Z8. They are worlds apart on technical specs. This isn't an isolated experience, and it does get a bit annoying to have to deal with this stuff frequently. I don't mind some gentle ribbing as it is expected, but uninformed harassment gets annoying, especially if you aren't even wanting to talk shop on specs.
@Zenutheduck-to4nr Yet it did and it's not the first kind of experience I've had in that manner. Truth is the truth and it's been my lived experience. Like it or don't. It doesn't matter.
Been a Nikon user for decades and have a hefty investment in glass and bodies. I've owned and shot others. I'm not anti any other brand, they're all 'ok'... but Nikon has never let me down. Haters gunna hate!
You can make fun of fanboys and claim you are unbiased all day, but in the end you get stuff from other brands to review (or get invited to events like the Sony A9III one) and not Nikon, so this can definitely bias your evaluation, even without noticing. This video feels like you are a bit arrogant to think you can never be biased. If you don´t like the criticism in your own videos and start making fun of them, it seems like you are not so different from Nikon ignoring your emails.
I don’t think we’re above having biases. I do think nobody knows what actually goes on behind the scenes or what our personal feelings or preferences are.
@@chelseanorthrup8787 That’s the point. Nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes, we as viewers can only judge by the edit you guys make. By the edit, sometimes it feels like you are biased towards a product. You don’t see it because you know the entire story behind that video, but we don’t. That’s my point, try to see the video as we do, instead of making fun of whoever criticizes and call fanboys. Except those hateful comments that don’t add anything and are just bs, those deserve to be laughed at 😄
It's honestly Sony Fanboys who find ways to bring Canon into anything. But when you stop and think about it... Most Nikon shooters went to Sony when mirrorless took off, so... They might be the same people lol!
Definitely Sony fanboys for me lol. That's what made me sell me A7III and keep my R8. I hate Canon for no 3rd party lenses but the Sony community is honestly a cult at this point. For someone like me that shoot portraits, Canon's screen has the beautiful wow factor that made my customers happier. I do love my A7III though, but I did have to spend more time adjusting the skin tone. People really need to understand that all cameras has pros and cons.
@limbei996 Watch Tony's video on color science. Canon users were the most biased group of all the viewers participating in the test - 4x more likely to prefer photos marked as Canon made, despite not being shot on Canon, and most negative towards the Sony photos, which were actually the most preferred ones. Sony users were the second most biased group with 2.6x bias factor, followed by Nikon and Fuji at 3rd place with (1.4x). So stop with that nonsense on who's the worst. You give hate, you get hate. We're all biased, but portraying other brand fanboys as the worst and making a gear choice based on that is a fanboyism on its own. Stop treating a brand like a tribe.
@@Tarets That is correct! stop treating cameras like a tribe! please say that when you see all the Sony people commenting on Canon videos that are made for canon shooters going over Canon gear. It's annoying. When Photographers are trying to help new people into photography and giving them information on who to look up about photography based on the gear they have, it would be nice for them to watch a video and NOT read the comments on how their camera that they just bought (Canon, Nikon, etc...) is worse and Sony is the best. it would be nice If I could recommend to brand new shooters who chose Canon or Nikon, Hey you can watch Tony because he's going to teach you something, instead of seeing videos about gear and which app (which no one really uses) is the best! I would be nice if the people in the comments didn't say things like Uh the Canon R8 is bad, you should have bought the Sony A7C or something like that. new photographers fall out of love with photography fast when comments like these are all over blogs! Truth is, we are living in an age where almost all cameras are fantastic options for 99.9% of people interested in photography. So when you see someone in the Sony tribe bashing every camera that's NOT a Sony, say something.
It’s disappointing you would stoop to generalizing this way. When one commenter uses foul language and happens to be supporting a particular brand, I fail to see how that reflects on any other commenter. I think the negative feedback on your Zf review was largely on the mark. The arrogance of pointing out that you have a large following as some sort of defense is off putting.
I'm a Fuji and Nikon fan owning both....the only comment I heard you say which is absolutely ridiculous and completely wrong is the X100VI produces better IQ than the Nikon ZF! Crazy comment......not an opinion, it's a fact.
17:02 I prefer the hard truth than soft lies. Tell it for what it is. The Nikon autofocus system is not at the same level as Canon and Sony, and that's ok. Nikon continues to improve it and I'm very happy with my Nikon Zf. The JPEGs are absolutely fantastic before editing RAW files. I also like the Z mount, the largest of the three, and can buy adapters for several different mounts. Of course the Nikon lenses are great as well.
Fanboyism can be explained using Festinger's cognitive dissonance theory. Buying an expensive camera and investing in a whole slew of lenses is almost always an anxiety raising move. What if I made the wrong choice? Will that choice improve my photography? Should I have spent so much money on all this gear? What about the other camera systems that I could have invested in? All of these, very common, concerns create tensions between our actions and beliefs, and those tensions can become intolerable if they last too long. Festinger claimed (with very good evidence) that we either succumb to accepting that our actions were wrong, and in this case, switch cameras, or modify our beliefs to become consonant with our actions. The latter would be to disregard any misgivings we may have had and to feel even stronger about the reasons we went with our initial choice. This reshaping of our beliefs to be consonant with our actions is often manifested in our reception of messages: gravitating to messages which reinforce our post-dissonant perspectives and avoiding/disagreeing with those messages which might reawaken our original cognitive dissonance. The bottom line is that the more which is at stake with any action, be it investing in a camera, a home, or even backing a political candidate, our resulting feelings about our decisions will be much stronger post-dissonance, even to the point of becoming closed to strong, well supported, arguments.
As someone who only uses Nikon for my DSLRs, I am far from impressed with them in many respects. The only reason I have stuck with them is that once you head down a path and start collecting gear, it is far too expensive to shift to another brand. Fanboys for any product (or person) are mostly brain dead and incapable of any kind of real reasoning. I am sure you know about that in spades right now with the insanity of politics over there.
My Z7 has auto white balance, and I am pretty sure it had that from the first shipping firmware because I have always used it, so why do you think that it doesn't?
When launched, they had separate AWB for indoor and outdoor, and you had to manually switch them. There were definitely many firmware updates after our original review, so maybe (hopefully) this feature was part of that.
@@TonyAndChelsea Thanks for the reply, but I continue to disagree. The Z6/7 has Auto white balance (with three sub tuning options) and a Natural Light auto option, which may be the source of confusion for you. This option was added first with the D850, and is the same on the latest Nikon cameras, such as the Z8. No Nikon Z6/7 firmware update mentions any change in the menu options for white balance. Therefore, I am unsure why you criticise the Z6/7 for this, but praise the D850 and Z8, when their behaviour in regard to AWB is the same across all three cameras.
Here right here, this is my problem with this channel. Tony you never really understand the features and settings properly and comes up with some negativity.
There are no new nikon shooters, we all grew up with them, also your zf review was... intrestingly harsh. If you wanna critizise, fine, but you made your bed, now lie in it. its not our fault youve been overly harsh on the system.
Was not invited to Nikon's new HQ unveiling event in Tokyo. Mad at Nikon. Instead of going after Nikon, just go after their users and call them fanboys. How about the fangirls?
Extreme comes in many forms. Fanboys make negative comments to reviewers and brands to justify the purchase or use of a different brand. I see them in every form of social media and forums and with every brand. I also see elitists who, much like fanboys, state that their equipment/software is the pinnacle in features, capabilities and results. I find many Canon owners fall into the latter category. I agree that Canon makes excellent equipment but they are the most expensive manufacturer for this high end of products. I think many photographers consider themselves mere mortals who have a limited budget. I find my camera choice is more about what I can afford for the type of photography I pursue. Right now, it happens to be Nikon because I like the Tamron 35-150 and Nikon 180-600.
Remember the blind tests Tony has conducted on us, the audience for the "Best color science" video? Canon shooters were the most biased, followed by Sony, and then by Nikon/Fuji ex aequo. Not saying it's the same as being the most toxic fanbase and few years have passed since, but it feels to me that the successful brands users behave condescending (looking at you Sony) while the users of brands not doing so well at the moment feel attacked with any criticism and retaliate with anger (Canon then, Nikon today).
Hey Chelsea and Tony, I am a Nikon shooter. I do some paid work but am not trying to make a living with photography - especially now that I am retired. I want to enjoy shooting sports and not worry about deadlines etc. I also don't have disposable income to purchase a quality camera body and pro lens at the same time. So while I think I'd enjoy switching to Canon, just don't see that happening. Tony, I do want you to know that you did save me money. I was itching to try mirrorless. So, when the z6 and z7 came out, I was excited. But after watching your review, I stiffled my urge and continued to shoot with my D500. I did jump on the z6II and was mostly happy with it. I recently put together enough cash to purchase a z9. Again, your reviews helped me in making my buying decisions. Lastly, I purchased your book "Stunning Digital Photography" and learned a lot from it. So, not only have you helped me make informed buying decisions, you've helped me get better results with the gear I have. Thank you. You two are great and I trust what you tell me. Thanks for your integrity. Michael
I used to sell camera gear (from 2018-2021) and I am a huge huge huge camera gear nerd, I own many early DSLR’s from all companies, but Nikon has always been my favorite, I never hide that. But I still typically sold Canon or Sony gear over Nikon, because when I went over the features with that specific customer, the advantages Nikon offered didn’t really match those people. In 2024 Nikon’s mirrorless cameras are greatly improved, but it’s okay to admit that they have room to improve (especially at the bottom of their product stack). I sympathize with Tony and Chelsea, they are trying to steer people to whatever they think is the best gear for each situation. Cameras are huge purchases, and if you buy into a system that doesn’t match your needs it’s very expensive to move away. It’s exactly the same thing I tried to do with each person who asked me anything related to cameras. I’ve never felt like most of the major RUclipsrs hate Nikon disproportionally, and I don’t feel that here either. I think people feel mad when the purchase they made isn’t validated by reviews or comparisons between cameras. They think to themselves, “my camera does everything I need so well, how can it lose to these other ones!”. At the end of the day, all cameras are good, but when you ask “who is the best at x feature” it’s bound to not always be the same brand. When Nikon had a product many people considered the best, they sung praises about it, like with the D850, or even the Z 9. But there’s no need to defend these companies and their products. They are companies, not people. Despite knowing the the Z 6 II wasn’t the favorite pick among camera reviewers when it launched, I knew it matched the features I wanted. I knew this not just based on specs but based on having all the newest camera gear available at my fingertips, it also made sense because at least 60% of the lenses I own are F mount, and the EF and E mount lenses I have could be adapted with AF with third party adapters. I didn’t need the fastest autofocus, or better video features. But that doesn’t mean that these other cameras aren’t better at those things, and when recommending a product it’s important to highlight what each thing does best. I don’t regret buying this camera, and if you bought a camera that isn’t as good as some other one with a specific feature, you can still be happy with yours if it meets your needs. We are here for the love and passion of photography, why shoot the messengers who are trying to inform people of what each one is best at. It’s the companies jobs to make compelling products for people, not the reviewers to point at one and sell it for them
I chose Nikon back at least to the F3. Maybe earlier. Because they didn't break. Plus, all dealers at the time indicated the glass was the best after the Germans. Today I find the situation the same. In general, Nikons don't break. And they last much longer than other brands. And I do have issues with Nikon. The Z lenses as sharp as they are have serious color issues for me. Constant frustration. And hate the way the Zs operate. Most times I just reach for a D850 due to faster, easier operation. I wish other brands were more reliable and had better lenses. Love my Canon 5Ds and now Mirrorless looks for video under mixed lighting. But, they don't have that magic Nikon color in general. And they fall apart quicker than Nikon. About 1/3 the life. Sony in my experience fall apart out of the box. In addition to the less than favorable color, combined with low durability rule them out for me. Other brands of recent vintage have not been beaten to death by me so cannot comment. I will say, that when am out with combat troops all I see is Nikon D850s. As for Fanboys, not one. However, at one trade event a few years ago, Canon was passing out cameras to play with, ( Nikon would not let you touch anything ), had Snoopys and other costumed people offering you beer, and had a "trade girl" give me a lap dance. I became a fan boy! Bought my first Canon mirrorless right there.
We Canon shooters are used to everyone hating Canon Cameras, lenses, everything.. even we hate Canon from time to time.. Who cares?! Go out and shoot.. whatever camera you own, you will love the pictures...
I came to Nikon by chance and initially had a Pentax K 10 D, which noised like an oriental carpet from ISO 500 onwards. The D 700 was available at a reasonable price in the local electronics store in 2009 and I snapped it up. I have now arrived at the Z 6 III. And I don't really care who likes the camera and who takes photos with which other brand. I don't judge anyone if they take photos with Sony or Canon or or or. I don't understand why you two are so upset about fanboys, regardless of brand. But perhaps you are not entirely innocent that these reactions to you arise.
Seen many videos where u subtly and blatantly bash nikon. Even z9 was not good for u in your comparisions. I have stopped watching your videos. This came while i was scrolling...
I use two Lumix for the last 7 years. Love them! It is not the camera that make the difference, the photographer has lots of to do with the quality of the photos!
As someone who's sunk a lot of cost into a Tamron 70-200mm G2 lens, I was rooting for my boy in your 70-200 shootout video. However, your reviews don't affect my image quality and hit rate (mostly sports shooting). Everyone should understand this.
I shoot Nikon, have had five different bodies as my skills progressed. I like their product but if there is any competition in my world it would be with my Pixel 6 cell phone. I enjoy seeing the other brands that you have used over the years and have become a bit more nerdish because of your teachings!!! Thank you for all you do! Moonpie
I’m a Nikon guy at heart, still own film and dslr’s. They’re classics. At one point, I had about 8 Nikon cameras. Right now, I have 5 Nikon’s. I also own Fuji
Nikon shooter here. Nikon drove me crazy with the Z6 Z6II series. They left me for a long time with no upgrade path to mirrorless. I needed fast, accurate AF because I photograph fast moving pets. So, because I was heavily invested in Nikon everything I continued to use their DSLR's. They kept working beautifully 😂, So, they finally delivered cameras with good AF that could keep up. Happy now. That said, I was tempted to switch because I thought mirrorless had a lot of advantages and wanted to take advantage of that. Turns out, none of this makes much difference. Mirrorless just makes it a little easier to get the photos. Thats nice and important, but my customers cant tell the difference 😂.
I’m still dirty with Canon for not allowing 3rd party lenses. I just live in hope that the situation changes because it’s too expensive to switch to another brand.
as someone who's used Sony quite extensively, 3rd party ain't all that it's cracked up to be. What makes mirrorless so superiors to DSLR's is the insane autofocus/tracking. Put a Sigma lens on an A7 and all of the sudden it focuses like sh!t when it comes to keeping up with fast moving subjects. Why do you think people still by G-Master's if Sigma has equal (if not superiors) sharpness? There is no replacement for native AF performance, unless you're shooting still-life or product photography, and if that's the case, you should just use manual focus anyways.
@ Perhaps Tamron or Sigma can’t make a lens that will autofocus as well as the Canon one, but I would still like the option to buy from 3rd party manufacturers if they can make a decent alternative. I would of course trust Tony and Chelsea to review those 3rd party lenses before I would commit. Of course it is pure speculation to say that 3rd party lenses couldn’t compete with Canon ones. If that turns out to be the case, people won’t buy them if they become available. I bought my Canon camera before they decided on the 3rd party ban. I think it is reasonable to be annoyed with their decision, and I’m not alone in this. Of course if I had unlimited money I wouldn’t care, but I don’t have access to unlimited funds.
@@TigaWould I have 3 but would like a longer telephoto than my 100-400. Don't have the money for a Canon one at the moment. Would like the option of a long telephoto for bird photography. I don't need more than 3 but that isn't the question for me really, but rather satisfying a want. I mean I don't actually "need" a camera but it satisfies a desire.
M4/3 people also have it against you, but our hate is half the size, we are very stable, and slowly disappearing. Edit: I think most of people’s hatred is understood from the perspective that they spend years, sometimes a decade, with a camera, so they learn workarounds and advantages that may not be evident on a purely technical, and limited review, so when they see a reviewer miss it, it feels like the reviewer is lying.
But this is just the classical fanboyism pattern: "because the reviewer doesn't recognize how brilliant my camera / my brand is, the review must be limited then" 😉 If "fanboyism" is too harsh, then let's name it "strong bias". Like everywhere else, whenever you got used to something for a long time, e.g. your car brand, or even your spouse. After a long time, you assume, the way it is, is the way things have to be. Other car brands (e.g. when renting one on vacation) feel quirky and 'wrong' immediately. Even though they aren't, but they don't match (yet) what you are simply used to 🙂
@ It can be. I meant limited more in the realistic sense, because they have to make a video in a certain time, they can test for example a lens, but not a lens at different distances of focusing, and different light situations, or camera focusing with different subject types, at different speeds and different light, or explain why you won’t take some combos at some speed of tracking and panning. Reviews can’t be really as unlimited in scope as real use, so an experienced user will always know more.. What fanboys lack is the perspective that the review is not for them. Making in depth reviews of a system with all the lenses, prices and use cases, is just out of the economical interest of any youtuber.
That's weird. I'm just learning photography and consider myself a Nikon fan (my grandfather used them and when I was younger, it's all I could see pros using). I never thought one instance that this channel had a bias for any brand. Every company produces some great, good and bad kit. It's no big deal and IMHO, it's horses for courses 😊. These comments can only be from people who spend more time lavishing over their gear than actually taking and publishing photos. One thing I noticed : when you look at professionals portfolios, it makes peanuts difference what gear they use, their style shines through, whatever brand they switch to.
In my experience it was usually the Canon fanboys that were the worst. But I generally try to stay away from any fanboys. All the brands are good in my opinion.
I'm just a hobbyist and I looked into a ton of information about the Sony, Canon, and Nikon options. I also considered Fuji and Panasonic for a time. When I finally chose a new camera, my first non-point-and-shoot, I grabbed the Z6 III on sale with the 24-70 f4 lens. I'm still experimenting with it, but it is a nice camera so far. I was heavily leaning toward the equivalent Canon R series and looked back at the Sony A7 IV. I liked the Sony for the resolution advantage, which would be more accommodating for cropping in to compensate if I don't frame the photo perfectly, and the Canon for the ergonomics and the way the menus function. Ultimately the partially stacked sensor on the Z6III was a huge boon for the rolling shutter reduction for high-resolution video the specific video shooting resolution options and the high bit depth options in the camera. I still think the Video quality can be better for Nikon overall and the Eye, animal, etc focus is still being improved however I had no reservations about purchasing the Z6III because the focus was much more acceptable. I appreciate your opinions and reviews.
No one should take care about feelings of engeneeres, who developed some product. Because if we do, they will continue feed us with their crappy stuff, spending lesser and lesser money on production and charging for it more and more. Like they already do with modern digitally corrected lenses.
I only use Canon cameras, does that make me a fan person, course it doesn't, I just like Canon products, I don't want to try other brands, why would I? All cameras have their weaknesses and their strengths, I just balance the strengths and the weaknesses out. For goodness sake grow up please.
Please, please, please don't generalize. A LOT of us aren't this simple minded and sensitive. I've been using a Nikon since I got into photography MANY years ago. But, that doesn't mean I despise other brands. I have a high respect for many other brands. I'm brand loyal yes. But, that's where it stops. I don't down any other camera because I love progression of tech. Same for when I worked for Yamaha. I was very brand loyal. But had such high respect for other manufactured motorcycles. I think FANBOYS that act like that are truly the worse though. NO matter the product. Just sad that you had to title this in such a way that division might be the result of this more than anything else.
@@classic.cameras yeah... I am going to check that out! I love some of the old film lenses. I've also been looking at a couple of vintage cameras and lenses. Honestly, these new cameras are great! almost every brand is fantastic! but the issue is, at times, it has taken the fun out of it! It's really sad that I am saying this, but coming up with cameras that are so good, has gotten boring! yes, for jobs (my jobs most specifically), These new cameras make everything so easy, but for fun.. I don't like walking around with the R5, A1, or any mirrorless camera to be honest! I thought about buying a Hasselblad, but I don't think I want to walk around with something like that. it screams premium and places a target on you.
Reviewers today are nit-picking minutia details. You can’t really go wrong with any of the major brands today. What bothers me is today’s reviewers are a little to cozy and complicit with the brands. It’s obviously not independent when they get wined and dined, flown to events, and somehow everyone has their reviews released on the exact same day.
I end up hating whatever thing I bought because of having to deal with its flaws constantly, and thinking the grass is greener on the other side (ie: focusing illusion).
HEY. Tony is gaining weight. Finally. I grew tired of his constant perfect body, looks, and charms for the past decade. At last, I can rest knowing he too is human and will shrivel like the rest of us. Chelsea still looks great, good job Tony. Good job.
Ex-BBNer here, with a question: Tony, you had a throwaway line about how Leica glass is both more expensive and inferior to lenses from the Big Three. For older Leica glass, that's certainly true, and "I like the way it looks" is surely the reason people continue to shoot (and pay for) older Leica lenses. However, I, as a shooter of both Sony and Leica (and several other systems) would really, really like some solid evidence one way or another comparing, say, the current Leica 50mm Apo-Summicron-M to, say, a Sony 50mm GM or a Canon 50mm RF L...or even, maybe, the Canon 50mm CN-R T1.2, both of which cost about half the cost of the Apo-Summicron-M. DXOMark doesn't seem interested...
Talk about fanboys, the biggest fanboys for Sony are the camera reviewers (I am not referring to you and Chelsea). Remember when Canon released the R5 and there was all this talk about the camera overheating? Back then Sony cameras would also overheat, but very few camera reviewers would talk about it.
Speaking as a Nikon devotee, I think a lot of this originally came from Nikon losing all that market share to Sony around 2014, and there’s a genuine anxiety that arises when you’ve sunk thousands of dollars into a system that you believe is the best choice of the major brands, and suddenly the entire company might go under?? Yeah so Nikon’s doing better now financially but their mirrorless offerings do have hitches in their AF performance compared to Sony and Canon. Imo, Nikon cameras still have the best ergonomics, best color, best image quality, best LENSES (did we forget about optics??). If I *need* to get a shot, however, I’m still reaching for my D4S, which just *works* without all these menus and stuff. All that to say, I think when you put out videos titles like THIS NEW NIKON AF SUCKS!!! to appease the RUclips gods (which I understand), I feel that the people who have invested a lot of money in Nikon feel hard-done by that, and feel you’re only pushing them out of business (you’re not), which will lead to less competition and less innovation.
19:59 thanks for not taking that free Hasselblad! I knew that they had given them out to smaller channels so for sure you two would be offered a system. As someone who scrimped and saved for a digital Hasselblad, I really appreciate your integrity. Even if it hurt. 🙏 👏 🙌
hi guys. i'm starting out with wildlife photography, and want to stay with canon for the better af, but they dont have a low aperture telephoto zoom. is sony af as good for animal detect or is nikon good enough? how much worse is nikon af then canon af?
I have a Nikon Z8 (before that 3 other Nikon Bodys) I know that the AF isn't as good and I know that Canon/Sony have better AF but!!! Nikon is working HARD to catch up to them with the AF and Nikon is releasing Firmware updates to improve the cameras and isn't charging to download the updates. I believe that Nikon is the one manufacture which will do this for years (maybe because it needs too). I don't believe Canon/Sony will be doing that. The other thing that Nikon has which the others don't, GREAT first party lens at "affordable" prices. Much more selection than the others. 800mm F6.3 180 - 600mm F6.3 600mm F6.3 Game Changer for wildlife (little pricey) 600mm TC F4
I think when people invest a huge chunk of cash into a system they don’t want to hear they might have made a mistake. The mirrorless cameras in between the D850 and Z9 are not that fantastic compared to Sony and Canon of that era. Auto focus really killed it. If you don’t need super fantastic auto focus then you might not notice you own a sub par camera. And beginners may even find cheap bargains in that space.
ow yes. it's the fans. not you going mad and doubling down over and over and over again on how nikon sucks, yet giving them camera of the year awards lmao.
If his magic settings can improve the AF from night to day, why doesn't Nikon make it default? You couples do a great job and make this community (photography) alive together with some other youtubers.
I meet many proud Canon and Nikon fanboys out at the shooting field. Unlike Canon, Nikon became an underdog company below Sony, a company both Canon and Nikon folks laugh at. I can understand why Nikon fanboys are upset. I bet ,if Canon is where Nikon is today, the Canon fanboys would be even worse!
Fan boys are funny. Long ago I did a tech writing gig at Macromedia. Since the software I was documenting had both Mac and Window versions, they put me in an office with two desks, one with a Mac and one with a Windows computer. I enjoyed it. I'm mostly a PC guy, but I'm not fanatically boyish about it. Although I disapprove of trolling, while doing that contract I'd occasionally visit a forum where the Mac/PC fanboys were going after each other, and I'd post something like "Actually, I prefer to avail myself of the benefits of both platforms." Both tribes would immediately forget their differences and combine forces to attack me. They didn't recognize the trolling; they just couldn't stand someone who wouldn't take a side in their cherished battle.
It is better to just have your points on Nikon no matter what they are .... giving Nikon fan boys more time than they deserve is not becoming of you.... by the way I may not agree with all your reviews but go over them to see what you may have found.... in the end we use our gear to the best of our abilities but it is always the best tool for the job you have to do....or can afford
Honestly I never looked at your video expecting unbiased takes. It’s not a realistic expectation honestly. Actually we talked about this a while ago and you did not agree, but I still stand by what I said. I don’t care if you’re biased or not, it’s not what I’m expecting and not why I watch your videos.
Sunken cost bias is that you're likely to keep investing money (or any other resource) in something you've already put money into, even if objectively it's a bad investment. What you're saying, that you don't wanna hear you made a mistake, that you're looking for other saying you made a good choice, that's confirmation bias.
Here is my frustration! 😂 I think you guys are great and make honest and thought out reviews. It all makes sense to me. My issue is just with the average camera consumer choosing their camera system based not on technical merits and an understanding of lens sharpness, camera tech, etc… but solely because an influencer or someone else they know or follow has that system. Unfortunately it seems canon owns that influential space. Props to them cause they worked for it! But I’d wish people were more informed about their decision. Rather than just trying to be an exact copy of someone else. I have seen so many people who know next to nothing about their camera and surprise it is a canon. So I just wish people weren’t just mimicking but stepping into the space with their own educated choices. (Not saying alll canon users arent educated and making informed decisions! Just that a good number of people starting photography might be tempted to just follow)
I would say it's not about Fanboys, it's more individual to individuals who can't take criticism. I'm personally love using Nikon, and I'm a big Nikon fan, but I know Nikon is just behind Canon and Sony in terms of autofocus capabilities. I'm perfectly fine with the criticism. Every brand has some better features capabilities than the others.. I used all three brands, but I loved using Nikon. Nikon is improving every day, and I appreciate all other brands coming up with better technology for more competition..❤🎉🎉happy shooting.📷
I think its less about "defending" a brand and more about pointing out people who will never say anything critical about other brands. Example, the hype of the R1 and people pointing out low resolution as a negative prior to its release. Now its released and apparently 24mpx is "perfect" from the pundits point of view
Even though my first serious camera was a Nikon F, I've used them all at one time or another. 6x9 all the way to 110. Looking at my pictures, I can't remember what camera I was using. When I travel, I always carry a camera to record my adventures. If you understand the basics of photography, the camera really doesn't matter that much. It's the subject that matters.
The only thing i will say to almost any camera reviewer. They start with the lens is important. But when recommending any body they will almost always ingore the lens lineup. Altough Tony recently said, i want the nikon because of the 600 TC lens. I currently don't like reviews of any camera because everybody is looking at tiny details which don't really matter. They can make life easier. But compared to 10 (and i dare to say 30) years ago. It's so easy to make a good picture (from a camera point of view).

How can Nikon fanboys be mad, didn't you name z8/z9 your camera of the year?
Okay, watched the video and you mentioned that :) I will say I love my z6, after all the firmware updates it is a good camera. Would love a z8 though
Your ZF review was way out of context and false. Now you are mad to the people that warned you?
yea, seems like a case of making his own bed
Nah, "Fanboys" are the worst in general - there's no reason, ever, to support a brand blindly and not consider alternatives. As a consumer, you're just feeding into brands not giving you the best value for your money by blindly supporting them.
🎯
Still, they (Nikon sheep) were the worst since a long tima ago.
This.
Well said! Blind brand loyalty is clownish and toxic. No brand ever pays me. I'll buy Nikon today, Fuji tomorrow, Pentax next week. If they make what I want, that's what I'm buying!
Are you saying a corporation doesn't have my best interest at heart?! /s
Your reviews of Nikon products leaves a lot to be desired .
You come off as someone who really didn’t do an in-depth job before reviewing the gears. This is the reason you are getting lots of heats from Nikon fans .
How surprising they did not say "Sony's ..." but when you compare the comments section of SAR to any other forums, it's not even a debate.
Do you know what the word integrity means?
I think you should do a web search...the Northrups were one of MANY news sources questioning Nikon's viability.
I’ve been a Nikon fan for the better part of my life.
Do you really want to say the word "Better" because Fanboyism is really the worst 😂
"calling all critics fanboys is a very cheap tactic to dodge criticism"
Please, point out where they said all critics are fanboys. I'll wait.
@@smaakjeks Well said.
🧢🤥
Why do I feel like this didn't actually happen?
@Zenutheduck-to4nr Yet it did and it's not the first kind of experience I've had in that manner. Truth is the truth and it's been my lived experience. Like it or don't. It doesn't matter.
@@Zenutheduck-to4nr I’m with you on this. This guy is definitely 🧢
It is weird that people get so into a brand that they consider it part of their identity, when the company doesn't care about them at all.
Try to explain that to Apple fanzombies 🤷♂️

Coincidences happen. That's how coincidences work.
@@chelseanorthrup8787 people never consider how long it takes to edit and if the video is an hour long they think it took an hour to make lol
Been a Nikon user for decades and have a hefty investment in glass and bodies. I've owned and shot others. I'm not anti any other brand, they're all 'ok'... but Nikon has never let me down. Haters gunna hate!
Preach it, brother!
Especially on forums...it's a craze especially the past 10-15 years.
Except those hateful comments that don’t add anything and are just bs, those deserve to be laughed at 😄
nikon vs sony fanboys, who's the worse?. as a canon user i respect Panasonic fans, they enjoy their affordable cameras peacefully.
Hasselblad fanboys
It’s disappointing you would stoop to generalizing this way. When one commenter uses foul language and happens to be supporting a particular brand, I fail to see how that reflects on any other commenter. I think the negative feedback on your Zf review was largely on the mark. The arrogance of pointing out that you have a large following as some sort of defense is off putting.
I'm a Fuji and Nikon fan owning both....the only comment I heard you say which is absolutely ridiculous and completely wrong is the X100VI produces better IQ than the Nikon ZF! Crazy comment......not an opinion, it's a fact.
Deleting comments like a child. Seems legit since you acted like one in this video
I’m a photo journalist got many front pages from my Nikon’s never let me down
17:02 I prefer the hard truth than soft lies.
Ain't none of these cameras that don't have flaws , pick the one with the flaws you can live with.
Very solid advice indeed!
I think it's not Nikon Fanboys... I think they hate you personally. You should just ignore them, they will just hate you more if you do this.

Humanity's tendency towards tribalism is so fascinating, the need to belong to something, politics, sports and cameras...wow!
No Sony are the worst, also sometimes this channel is the worst!
I like MFT...everything else offends me.
I bet you thought this video would be a lot more successful.
C'mon - we know you're part of the Full Frame vs APS-C conspiracy. And, don't get me started on your Pentax hate! 😁
In the Cine/Video space the RED fanboys were the absolute worst. Maybe Nikon bought them too?
Michael
All I'm saying is that most of us feel your reasoning is not correct, most of the times it's biased/incompetent/grudged.
My mother taught me if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all!
Man... These 2 are so cringe! What a waste of time...
What? Northrups are reviewing personalities now instead of cameras? Oh, for the good old days of stunning digital photography how to videos..
They literally just posted a massive review of wildlife gear.
Did you change the camera you shoot your RUclips video with? Or the lighting? It looks better in this video
I love my Nikkor lenses. Cameras come and go, but my lenses will be my children's problem with I die.
@@gregdarroch1946 Quick question... How many lenses do you "need"?
But this is just the classical fanboyism pattern: "because the reviewer doesn't recognize how brilliant my camera / my brand is, the review must be limited then" 😉
If "fanboyism" is too harsh, then let's name it "strong bias".
Anybody else think Chelsea should start her own RUclips channel? Asking for a Nikon friend...
You two both simp for Sony its hard to take you two seriously.
Were Fuji fanboys not the worst just a while ago? Did Nikon Fanboys just overtake them?
Did anyone told them that you don't need to film a video at f1.2? Still cringe.
I started out Nikon with a D5200 and then upgraded to a D800. Switched to Sony A7rii and now I want to try Canon.
No one should take care about feelings of engeneeres, who developed some product. Because if we do, they will continue feed us with their crappy stuff, spending lesser and lesser money on production and charging for it more and more. Like they already do with modern digitally corrected lenses.
You make a good point about the lenses.
My Nikons give me excellent results, starting from the film times to the DLSRs. I love mine, flaws and all.
I only use Canon cameras, does that make me a fan person, course it doesn't, I just like Canon products, I don't want to try other brands, why would I? All cameras have their weaknesses and their strengths, I just balance the strengths and the weaknesses out. For goodness sake grow up please.
come on, your zf review was just BS, so obvious. just could admit that
Please, please, please don't generalize.
When I bought my first Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS in 2022. I became a fan. Then again I use it on a Canon R6 or Sony A7IV. Am I the worst?
Nope! you're good! That's awesome that you do that! I have no clue there was an adapter from Nikon to Canon RF, but I shouldn't be surprised lol!
@@TigaWould they are cheap. If you want to use old film lenses you can get an adapter for any mount for around $20 bucks.
Worst is best... Nikon rules...
What if camera fanboys get obsessed with a particular brand, because they can't afford to experiment with different cameras like reviewers do?
Probably your best video, really funny and enjoyable. Been a Nikon fan since 1972 Nikormat. Keep up the good work.
hi guys. i'm starting out with wildlife photography, and want to stay with canon for the better af, but they dont have a low aperture telephoto zoom. is sony af as good for animal detect or is nikon good enough? how much worse is nikon af then canon af?
It really depends on the camera that you're using more than the brand. Check this video: ruclips.net/video/QWCt9QI4tJc/видео.html
I have a Nikon Z8 (before that 3 other Nikon Bodys)
I know that the AF isn't as good and I know that Canon/Sony have better AF but!!!
800mm F6.3
180 - 600mm F6.3
600mm F6.3
Game Changer for wildlife (little pricey) 600mm TC F4
Next video: slating the Z50 II 😂
I think when people invest a huge chunk of cash into a system they don’t want to hear they might have made a mistake. The mirrorless cameras in between the D850 and Z9 are not that fantastic compared to Sony and Canon of that era. Auto focus really killed it. If you don’t need super fantastic auto focus then you might not notice you own a sub par camera. And beginners may even find cheap bargains in that space.
I like all cameras))) Means I am pancamerian?))
ow yes. it's the fans. not you going mad and doubling down over and over and over again on how nikon sucks, yet giving them camera of the year awards lmao.
Nikon never really "sucked", but they their equipment improved and thus our reviews became more positive.
Nice rage bait, hope it helps the enagement
If his magic settings can improve the AF from night to day, why doesn't Nikon make it default?
You couples do a great job and make this community (photography) alive together with some other youtubers.
I meet many proud Canon and Nikon fanboys out at the shooting field. Unlike Canon, Nikon became an underdog company below Sony, a company both Canon and Nikon folks laugh at. I can understand why Nikon fanboys are upset. I bet ,if Canon is where Nikon is today, the Canon fanboys would be even worse!
What are you smoking 😂?
One of Japan's most traditional and conservative companies, dedicated to craftsmanship, tradition, and quality for over 100 years, now has fanboys?
I have been a Nikon fangirl since 1978 when I bought the FE. After that, FE2, F601 (we didn't came along), F90 and F100. Now I have the D500.
