This man is basically a huge nerd that was lucky enough to make video games with references to movies he loves and get to meet his favorite actors. Damn!
I find it kind of crazy that Kojima is just...pulling in all these actors unfamiliar with games and somehow they're just falling in love with the project!? I mean, obviously they're not gonna say anything bad about it while they're working on it, but it's still remarkable and bizarre to see.
His vision for the game must be very compelling if he's able to convince people that are unfamiliar with gaming to devote themselves to the project. It's possible he gave them a monetary offer they couldn't refuse, but Norman and Lindsay seem genuinely interested.
@@jacobnapkins1155 the story was fantastic. The gameplay was really unique and interesting. The only issue with the game was it was a bit padded with random quests that messed up the pacing. However, I loved it regardless and am excited for the sequel because it is a one of a kind experience I doubt I’ll ever get again.
@@calvinbarboza I am really excited for the A24 film adaptation as well. Kojima has fantastic ideas and visions but his works don't always have the best writing/editing. A24 is among the absolute best in the film industry right now, I have high hope they'll be able to bring together people that could truly present and elevate the world of Death Stranding on the big screen!
Kojima is just a figure head. That translator guy is the real mind behind the game. Infact if you use google translator to translate what Kojima says you can he's speaking jibberish. I think its possible Kojima went insane after the Konami debacle, now they feel sorry for him and just bring him to the interviews and pretend hes the game director to prop up his fragile ego.
The theme of the game is about Connections. Not just fighting, connecting things together, and connecting the world together. That already is a fantastic concept to explore in a game and it already makes it different from all it's competition.
It's an online pizza delivering simulator with the ability to fit over 1000 players into one server from all corners of the world without any latency issues, truly a first of its kind.
Kojima has a great relationship with Geoff Keighley. After Kojima was let go amidst all the controversy of Konami's selfish greed and petty unprofessionalism a few years back, it was Geoff that fired back at Konami the loudest in defense of Kojima. I'm quite sure Kojima didn't forget that.
Lindsey Wagner is probably my favourite actress of all time, and it is deeply moving that Hideo Kojima made a massive epic with a huge budget to rejuvenate her and execute a complete depiction of her in the different ages of life. For me the greatest homage, and the situation reminds me of Lottie and Goethe from the Thomas Mann book
So cool to see Lindsay back at work and in the game. It was a surprise for me when I saw her. I was transported back to the mid-70's when I first fell in love with her. Was always jealous of Steve Austin.
I’m so happy to see her and hear from her! That’s so cool she’s involved in a Kojima game too, along my favourite actor :) Nice, nice, thank you Mr. Kojima. Video games are indeed about telling stories.
Nethanel DeCarmo well honestly Hawley is more our generations Lynch. But I don't get huge amounts of Kubrick from Kojima's games. He's honestly in a class by himself and his contributions to gaming far exceed that of Kubrick's to film.
she almost sounded like she wasn't sold based on people's reactions to the trailer. like she was really expecting a vicereal response. she's part of something bigger than she seems to realize.
She's awesome. Great casting. My mom also loves it. She watched this whole interview on her own when I sent the link. Crossing generations and reconnecting the world ;)
9:56 His Japanese sounded like he said something about "No Man's Sky" and I swore he was saying he was inspired by it. Was baffled for a sec before I got translation. Language is such a funny thing.
Entity Rage I heard that too. Pretty sure he said "Norman's" followed by a "ky" sounding Japanese word, since the question was about Norman's characters
Agreed. Even if it's a walking simulator, I'll still play it. I mean look at PT, that was pretty much a walking simulator too. Yet, it influenced horror games so much, that everyone started making PT clones.
wolfie99. I thought that he said that too. I'm surprised that I haven't seen other comments about that line. I hope that I heard that wrong. He's only 54 years old!
This E3 was very violent, but Death Stranding was so different, so calm, so reduced and minimalistic, but also so scary and threatening. Death Stranding will change Gaming.
Hideo used that Bionic Man sound effect on the gold robotic arm. Million Dollar Man. I really believe that he thought of Lindsey Wagner as a Goddess. His character model at the end is his 13 year old selfs dream girl.

We only see Sam walking and the other female character in the trailer. What was the he talking about "we see other characters walking around..."? Guess most people were thrown off by the character occasionally having his hair in a ponytail?
i,m looking forward to playing death stranding on ps 4 when it,s eventually released and it would be great if the six million dollar man and the bionic woman with lee majors and lindsay wagner is available on blu-ray disc both of them has great episodes to watch and enjoy and it,s definately a sci-fi tv classic and lets not forget richard anderson as oscar goldman.
Did you notice the bottom of Geoff Keighley's shoe? A triangle, a circle, an X and a square ended up down there, despite those being brand new Nikes (and cool looking too, I might add). Like he's being "controlled" by Sony. He obviously knows more than he pretends to. "Don't trust the news. They already are controlled by them".
Look how much of a game changer it was being able to fulton enemies off the map to work at motherbase in MGSVTPP I suspect this new game will introduce one or more of these kinds of features.
I'm 8 hours in. Bought it like week one and never played it... My god, it's so beautiful. I almost hate that it has all these gooey monster stuff that keeps me from just wandering the place with the beautiful soundtrack.

After watching this i am interested in this game even more. I am glad Kojima didnt leave behind the deep thoughts that were spread out through the whole Metal Gear Series because in the middle of all those game that had you shoot up guys by the hundred his games were so special. They didnt keep you from killing but they sure as hell didnt endorse you for it and the plot themselves had you know that its bad. Thats why Metal Gear Solid is still such a special game, especialy if you realize that it came out when game industry was still being born. And yet it had more depth and thought than lot of games have today.
Kojima basically hired his first crush.
I can understand that completely. Lindsay Wagner when she was in Bionic Woman (and now in the game) looked very beautiful and hot. :)
She was hot as hell in the 80s and 90s so kinda understand him crushing
He really did lol
This man is basically a huge nerd that was lucky enough to make video games with references to movies he loves and get to meet his favorite actors. Damn!
She's so beautiful in game.
7:55 "He talked to you for 3 and half hours about his vision?"
"Yeah"
Geoff's face says god i wish that were me
Who wouldn't want to talk with him for 3 hours?
11:47 He still remembers the pain he felt from 7:55

many actors/actress probably didnt work with motion capture that often so that what makes them amazed by game industry
It's even more amazing because he's more fanboying over them than the other way around.
His vision for the game must be very compelling if he's able to convince people that are unfamiliar with gaming to devote themselves to the project. It's possible he gave them a monetary offer they couldn't refuse, but Norman and Lindsay seem genuinely interested.
I find that interesting as well, I mean Guillermo Del Toro is a huge nerd but the others not so much :)
actors dont have steady incomes so they'll take a project like this easily
Kind of sweet and endearing that he grew up watching Bionic Woman and wanted to have her in the game.

I will forever be convinced that Kojima actually speaks perfect English and that not speaking it is all part of his “mystique”. LOL
exactly what i thought
Kojima san and Hideki Kamiya know English but they don't speak cause their accent is very heavy.
He does, it's just not well spoken and he get frustrated
He does speak it but was embarrassed on previous occasions because people poked fun at his heavy Japanese accent and made jokes at his expense.
Yes it is. and is pretty normal with japanese artists. The Final Fantasy character design didn't speak english too
God bless Kojima.
God bless God
Amen
departing from Konami was the best thing that could've happened for him, now we're going to get this gem
Petrifying Pumpkins Kojima IS God
LOL you beat me to it.
I can’t wait to play this. It is so rare to be able to go into a game not knowing exactly what you’re going to do and actually be surprised.

Zen Kojima does understand and speak English tho . So his work is reduced
I know, right? So odd that they didn't introduce the translator. They were like "we don't need to introduce the help." That is so damn condescending.
Its amazing to see his translator do what he does
