Hey, I just wanted to let you know that this really, really helped to let me feel less self-conscious about finding my "art style." I've been drawing for about a year now, but I've always struggled with this. For so long, I felt like I was the only one who had this issue and I was holding myself back because I always wanted my art to be easily identifiable based on certain ways I drew things. Thank you for letting me hear what I needed to hear. Also P.S., your art has really been improving lately, and I love the way you color! I feel like I learn more just by watching you sketch :)
Hot take: you already have an artstyle. It doesn’t matter if you’ve drawn for years or started a week ago, you have an artstyle. It doesn’t matter if you feel your art is inconsistent, you have an artstyle. I personally think my artstyle can be very inconsistent, it has been during all my time as an digital artist. But when I look back at my old art and compare it to my newer pieces I can still see that they were both made by me, can recognize thing I still do nowadays. If I were to give new artist one tip on “finding” your artstyle I would say to try new things, see what you like to draw and less what you want it to look like. Trust me, this is hard to swallow as someone who loves painterly semi realistic art, but lineart is much more fun for me to do. In the end, as you improve over time, you will find something that’s both fun to draw and looks good to you!
hi! so my opinion about artsyles (sorry i dont have tips) is that you always learn so you never have one consistent artstyle. Sometimes when you go through your recent art, you find yourself nitpicking the little mistakes and then in your next drawing, you subconciously fix those mistakes so thats why your artstyle might look different each time. I actually got fed up after a while of trying to find my artstyle when this came to my realization. I hope this helps i guess and sorry for the long comment and the numerous spelling mistakes

The most important and useful tip I have for people trying to find their artstyle is to start a project and finish it. Be realistic with your expectations, obviously, don't tell yourself that you have to finish a fully-fledged manga by next monday; but give yourself an end goal that is achievable considering how much time you can put into your art. I've been drawing fairly consistently for about four years now, and I don't feel any closer to having a "proper artstyle" than when I was in high school, haha! I have always focused on my lines and the proportions of the characters I draw because I wanted this to be the core of my style, nowadays, people tell me they can recognise my art from a mile away because of my colour choices. There's no telling what your artstyle will be, or what it'll evolve into. Sure, you can do like Waes did and decide what certain features will look like, but there are inherent qualities to your art that can only be created by you because that's how YOU learned how to draw. Also, for younger artists, please do remember that most people with very definite artstyles that you look up to have had years and years to practice, and most likely have a job that forced them to draw consistently for hours every day; this has reinforced their artistic voice in a way only artists that have worked decades in the industry can achieve. TL;DR: If you want a precise style, set rules for yourself and your art and stick to them. If you want to know what your current style is, do a project, it will naturally force a sense of consistency in your craft. If you want to leave yourself some time to discover what works for you, draw what you like, and draw a lot. You'll get there eventually! Good luck beautiful artists! As a 14 year old who made up stupid "artstyle rules" for myself. Thank you. This truly helped me, especialy since for example: my parents always tell me that "my art doesnt look like my art". And your video realy let me forget those things. Dont just stop when you "found an artstyle" try to collect as much artstyles as possible! And always remember the barcode!
Art style always changes. I think it’s such a problem for young artists to quickly find their “iconic artstyle” because of social media. I remember when I still had my instagram account, i was so scared of posting new art of mine that looked completely different from my old for the fear of losing followers. And well, I lost followers. Recently I quit having any serious social media art account, and felt way more free. I could experiment without the fear of not posting for a week, not posting any stories, not replying to any comments, and not making any posts. I’m barely a teenager so I should take this time to experiment before I become a working adult! Have fun, don’t worry about your style, just make a world of what you like.
I have mad respect for this video. For months, I’ve been forcing myself to make my ‘art style’ consistent by neglecting possible opportunities to experiment. Watching this video gave me some clarity, and needless to say it is extremely helpful! I hope more beginner artists watch this video so it helps them as well down the road.
Its definitely impossible to tell someone how to find their styles in a few steps and I’ve watched many “find your style” videos and this one was definitely by far the best and most helpful and freeing. One person cant tell you how to find your style because everyone has different interests but you covered how to view things positively so that you can work towards finding your style faster TYSM 💗
I want to restate what you said here, because I feel like some may need it said a different way: Your art style CAN help other people identify that an artwork is yours, however that is not what a style is. An art style is the style in which you like to draw; a style is going to be made up of the many things we see in the world, the things we enjoy. Like music, and characteristics of other's art.
I agree with EVERYTHING you said. I always try to emulate the artists I like in some way and I always feel dissatisfied if my art doesn’t look similar to theirs. It’s frustrating. I now came to the realisation that I should STOP doing that and just draw because I like too. That’s how most of my best pieces were made and born.
I've been artblocked for the longest time because I kept having the same art style- this video really helped me get out of my comfort zone and stop drawing the same thing over and over again
FINALLY RUclips RECOMMENDED UR VIDEO EARLY LETS GOOO ✨🙏🏼 (Só queria dizer q vc é uma grande inspiração pra mim e saber q vc é br me deixa mais feliz ainda)
Thank you for this video, seriously. I've been struggling with the idea of style so much lately, always wanting to do something different but not trying because of my "style", and hearing someone I really admire say that anything I want to do or try is already my style really genuinely helps me break out of this cycle
I adored every minute and second of this video, it's true that its ok to not have an artstyle because if you stress yourself so much, you'd end up making yourself unhappy with how your drawings turn out, when really, its about something you enjoy to do, whether it be a profession or hobby :)
I’m so glad I found this video, I’ve been struggling with the pressures of finding the “perfect art style” for myself thats unique. I’m gonna try letting go and just having fun
Drawing for a few years, I been told I have an art style although..I find myself underwhelmed with it and even frustrated. I had the mindset that I have to continue to draw in said art style but your video helped me realize that I should try to explore what I actually enjoy and even stray away from something I would never think of. Thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video! I've spent a lot of my time as an artist worrying about finding an art style and focusing too much on what other people do to make their art more identifiable. As a result, I've kind of lost a grasp on what I myself want to draw. This helped me realize that I should take the time to experiment and figure out what I like rather than holding myself back. Taking inspiration from other creators is perfectly fine and normal, but don't let it hinder your personal creative image!!!

I don’t think your view is “too optimistic” at all ! It’s optimistic of course, but it’s also true. Art should be an expression of yourself, something that makes you feel happy, not restricted. The only time I’d see it’d be necessary to have a specific consistent style is if you are working on a project that requires that, but even then you can still experiment outside of that project !
I haven't done traditional art in a long time and now I feel like I miss it and i wanna get back to it thanks to u, Also I hope ur planning on doing more videos like this, really relaxing and inspiring ~
I think the topic is super relevant in general so no worries! When I was a little younger and trying to have my own style I watched TONS of these videos! There honestly wasn’t enough of them on RUclips at the time, so it’s super cool to see more!
i’m not a beginner at all i’ve been drawing ‘seriously’ and trying to develop my art style for 5 years now (i’m 16) and this video actually helped i actually thought an art style was like you said drawing everything the same each time and it just leads to same face syndrome (which i struggle with right now) it’ll take some time to get out of this mindset and try new things but hopefully i find the right art style soon!! :)
I have been drawing for years, and I have worried about my style for a good chunk of that time. This video helped me a lot, especially the barcode analogy! ❤️
i want to thank you for reminding me to have fun because i have just recently made a new sona for myself, but before hand i was worried if changing my sona would cause some sort of distress in myself or to the people that like my art. and then i realized, this is my life and if my old sona isn’t what i like drawing anymore i don’t have to force myself to draw it for the sake of keeping this identity. art is changing along side with a person and it shows their life through their art. and when i thought of that, it allowed myself to create this ever growing, new chapter in my life.
When I first started out drawing, I also used to think that one specific thing would be how people would identify my art. After changing my thinking a lot about style and art in general, I have had so much more freedom in experimenting with my art. Even years later, I can now look at old pieces of art (no matter how different they may be at face value) and see what has carried over into my current style. I wish I would've heard this when I was a beginner because I believe I would've branched out a lot more and a lot faster. Now that I've learned this, I have been experimenting a lot more and that has lead to a lot of improvement.
I loooove your videos! You don’t know how much I needed to hear this! 💕ありがとう😭🙏💕 I’ve been struggling with RUclips but because of you, you make me want to try harder and post more videos! You’re truly an inspiration!
Reminds me of when I drew this kinda style, but I wasn’t confident with it so I just change styles and go by what I ‘want’ to draw and not what I want it to ‘look’ like. And I’m more confident and satisfied with my style right now ☺️
Ahhh watching this made me get my sketchbook out to draw~ I love this style of video! And I love the barcode allegory for art style, that everything you love is a part of, but not ALL of, your style. Even as someone who isn't a beginner, I'm definitely gonna keep it in mind!
I love these kinds of videos!! It's cool to see your sketches and also hear you share your thoughts with us and stuff and oH MY GOD STRAWBERRY MOUSE!!! T^T how cute. But yes! It's refreshing to hear basically how I too feel about an art style. It's less of something you have to actively think about and more like different patterns of your personality coming together to create your default style (kinda like DNA lol). Moving forward I want to try everything I have an urge to try. A bit of realistic art, a bit of anime, a bit of abstract, a bit of cutesy themes, a bit of dark or disturbing themes, monochrome vs. colorful, clean vs. messy. I think everyone should experiment with whatever they want!
i have rewatched this so many times and it's helped me a lot with how i perceive my art style and how much i overthink it. thank you for this lovely video
I found this on my homepage, and im so happy and grateful for this. Im starting my high school year in an art school, and because of that, i wanted to prepare myself for it because im really insecure with my inconsistent art style. But, watching this, i don't think i feel pressured to find it so soon ♡
i constantly evolve new "art styles," actually, I've had about five in the past few months- being a younger artist who is not too worried about art styles and more about actually improving is a true blessing. but then again, I have been drawing for three years and I probably got over It before i realized 🤷
Seus vídeos são uma grande inspiração, até mesmo a sua forma de sempre renovar seu estilo nunca fazendo do mesmo(não que seja um problema) adoro seu conteúdo e sua arte me alegra, obrigado
I really enjoyed this video, I haven't put so much attention at it but your voice was relaxing and inspired me to draw! I've already found my art style and even today I keep improving it over and over again, so if you, little person who just started drawing and want a drawing style, if you love on art and you really enjoy what you're doing, eventually you'll be gettin bette, I got high hopes on you! good luck!
I NEEDED THIS VIDEO SO MUCH. For the last few months I was very sad because my "art style" was very inconsistent. I feel like as an artist or as a person who wants to be an artist, we have this pressure to have a very unique and specific art style. But what's the problem with knowing how to draw in many many ways? I think that's awesome.
omg this video was so helpful! I actually struggled trying new things while drawing but this video has really encouraged me to overcome my negative thoughts and enjoy myself while drawing :) ty!
this is clearly helpful since I'm very likely to struggle on my art style recently and stressing out to be consistent. I will watch this whenever I struggle to do so :DD
I started drawing seriously when I was around 11. I was so certain that “finding your art style” was The most important thing. I wouldn’t draw new things because then it wouldn’t look like my art. Im 16 now, and still learning, but I’ve realised that whatever I draw will inherently be in my own art style. Its okay for me to take inspiration from media I like, its okay to draw eyes in a different way, its okay to draw! Art is art, and it was really hard for me to realise that. For all those new artists out there: draw! Don’t stress so much about it being perfectly stylised. Great video, totally summed up my thoughts on this topic!!
this helps me so much :] i used to be scared to do a different art style because it was " too inspired " by other people , so i tried to keep my style consistent , but now I ' m gonna try them
When I was starting how to draw I tried so hard to fine an Artstyle and never was happy with any result of what I drew. You just built up skills along the way. If you suck at anatomy just do it even if it doesn't look good your brain will build muscle memory. Having fun just drawing built my skills without even realizing it.
Loved the video ♥️ I love this style of video where you talk to us and tell us about your idea, experiences, etc… New sub! I’m a beginner and I’m thinking of art styles quite often. I’m not really trying to always draw the same way every single time, but at the moment I felt kind of limited , since I always drew people at least, since I started keeping sketchbooks. I used to draw lots of super cartoony cats and recently I drew them again, but in a realistic style and it was so fun and I feel like my art block is fading away (I had this for the past month). I do have a mini art channel, where I show my growth I guess, but now it’s kind of pressuring me to keep on drawing people. This video really helped me feel better about it and now I might do a video, about drawing cats! So thank you so so so much 😊
I’ve been building my art style for a while, humans specifically. I got to the point of knowing how to draw a decent looking human. Although.. the other day i was doodling and created a whole new style that honestly flowed so much better with me, since then i’ve been drawing in that style, but i just feel like my past efforts went to waste.
Ive recently found a style Id like to stay and improve with in the future after having a massive art break I started drawing without thinking about settling on a style. Because I have hundreds of styles I'd like to try and explore.
I agree and relate with a lot of what you said here. It's common for many beginner artists (me including) to struggle with this topic! Personally I think I'll always have different "art styles" and am learning to be ok with that. Never liked the feeling of limited in what I make anyways~
When I start doing art, I didn't know there was the thing "art style" later I found out that is the way the artist draw, and is what people and de industry wants. I study so much about art style, what makes a person draw like that, at the point I was exausted, and stop doing that, but then my teachers said that my art was recognise not the way I drew stuff, but how my lines, the shading, the coloring, the expressiviness I put into my art. Then I realize, art style is not just how you put somethings in your drawing, but the all process.
this has helped me a lottt !!! I've been struggling lately with art style and have felt very conflicted cause of the range of things I wanna try, but this video man, this video has felt sooo good
Your arstyle never stops growing, every day, every week, every month and every year it changes based on your mood, what you feel and what you like, cuz now you like manga and your style may be leaning more in to manga artstyle then tomorrow you read a cool western comic and you fell in love with their artstyle to the point it influenced YOUR manga artstyle and now you have a mix of both that it became your own. so my advice is to never think about it and let your hand do the work, you're going to unconsciously mold your artstyle, it's not something you should think about it! And believe me it will never stop molding! Just look at Araki's artstyle (if you know Jojo or if you don't do it anyway just for infos) his art style changes in EVERY part! Maybe it's just a slight change but still a change! Another example, my teacher used to draw more semi realistically like marvel or dc art style but then he changed it completely and started drawing in a cartoonish style (he's in his late 30s when he he did that) so it's never late to change and it will always change so don't be scared or discouraged it just means your interests changes you changed and your more comfortable in what you changed into! (God I wrote so much sorry you don't have to read everything and if you did thank you and I hope the best for you!)
this is so helpful! i have been getting so bored with drawing the same over and over recently, i kind of did and kind of didnt want to change my artstyle but i dont need to! thanks so much!!
I’m not a beginner but I stopped creating because of school and actively trying to get an art style. Now I wanna create more and just go with the flow. Thanks for this video🥺
Love every single video from you 💗 your voice is so calming and the art you make is always so pretty (even if it's just sketching). And also! I was watching you changing styles and I could always see that it was your work and I liked all of the pieces you created 💕
maaaannnn i've been searching for my own style for yeaaarrrsss, and now IM SO GLAD I FOUND IT DAMMIT- if it wasn't because of people like you that explained "how to find your style" well maybe i would still be searching to change mine again haha also I LOVE UR STYLE OK- i think you just stopped my artblock
I love your style, it's pretty adorable. I also hyperfocus on a body part to try to make it my style, but I found it pigeonholed my creative development so I wouldn't experiment much with different types of characters and they all looked the same. It ended up stopping my growth by keeping one "art style". Now I try to develop my style without something obvious like the same eyes.
I'm always struggling with art in some way which causes me to have lots of art blocks. One thing I used to struggle with is poses. Because I would always look at other peoples tips on drawing proportions and I thought wow this is helping and then a couple of days later I realized I didn't even really remember the tutorials I was given and I was back at square one. Then once while I was in class I was reallyyyyy bored so I looked for a blank spot on my page and then started drawing without really thinking. And then by the end of it I had found a way to draw body types in a way easier way that I enjoyed! So honestly I guess my little story here is trying to say that don't think about what your drawing when your trying to discover something new just kind of go with the flow. haha
I think this was what i need to hear, I've been a little unmotivated about finding an art style and marry with an only art style for the rest of my artistic carreer or whatever was putting on myself more pressure than i need
Visual Identity, I never thought about that... All I ever did was studying how to make my art better that I never really thought about the viewers being able to recognize my artstyle or not. huh
I see that you have tons of comments so I don't know if you'll see this, but I love your videos and I watch them when I draw or write or fold laundry. It's like having a friend nearby :) just wanted to say thanks for being awesome (love your art btw)

FINALLY RUclips RECOMMENDED UR VIDEO EARLY LETS GOOO ✨🙏🏼

Thank you for this video, seriously. I've been struggling with the idea of style so much lately, always wanting to do something different but not trying because of my "style", and hearing someone I really admire say that anything I want to do or try is already my style really genuinely helps me break out of this cycle
I adored every minute and second of this video, it's true that its ok to not have an artstyle because if you stress yourself so much, you'd end up making yourself unhappy with how your drawings turn out, when really, its about something you enjoy to do, whether it be a profession or hobby :)
To be completely honest- art styles, like people, are just a mosaic of things that they love.
Thank you!

KKKKKKKKKK aí gente, cada coisa que eu dou risada
Humor de brasileiro = maravilha
Thank you so much for making this video! I've spent a lot of my time as an artist worrying about finding an art style and focusing too much on what other people do to make their art more identifiable. As a result, I've kind of lost a grasp on what I myself want to draw. This helped me realize that I should take the time to experiment and figure out what I like rather than holding myself back.
Taking inspiration from other creators is perfectly fine and normal, but don't let it hinder your personal creative image!!!
art style just comes naturally, it is the reflection of our desired look of our piece.
Você é uma inspiração enooorme pra mim, quanto penso em desistir vejo seus vídeos e eles me ajudam bastante!
omg this is the exact thing ive been struggling with recently, this video is such a gift!! ur videos are so calming and i love ur positivity !
I haven't done traditional art in a long time and now I feel like I miss it and i wanna get back to it thanks to u,
Also I hope ur planning on doing more videos like this, really relaxing and inspiring ~
The barcode analogy is super helpful! Also that keyboard and mouse!! so cool!
eu SOU uma adolescente de 14 anos e estava pensando assim até ver esse vídeo-- ai mdss você me salvouu 😭😭
I can't thank you enough for making this video!!
I luv your videos, is so relaxing
(Eu também não sabia que você tinha uma loja online :O)
This made me really motivated to draw stuff I haven't before!!
I love these sketch and chat videos! pls do more they're such an inspiration ;W;
I cried watching this. This is the first video that I have seen bout you and I think that its the most beautiful way to start following you.
You changed my whole point of view
i have rewatched this so many times and it's helped me a lot with how i perceive my art style and how much i overthink it.
thank you for this lovely video
I found this on my homepage, and im so happy and grateful for this. Im starting my high school year in an art school, and because of that, i wanted to prepare myself for it because im really insecure with my inconsistent art style. But, watching this, i don't think i feel pressured to find it so soon ♡
I like the barcode approach, all the small unique things you do with your art being what makes up your artist identity!!
i constantly evolve new "art styles," actually, I've had about five in the past few months- being a younger artist who is not too worried about art styles and more about actually improving is a true blessing. but then again, I have been drawing for three years and I probably got over It before i realized 🤷
Seus vídeos são uma grande inspiração, até mesmo a sua forma de sempre renovar seu estilo nunca fazendo do mesmo(não que seja um problema) adoro seu conteúdo e sua arte me alegra, obrigado
AGHH ITS SO AESTHETIC I love how you drew Miku (Hatsune miku)
Great video, totally summed up my thoughts on this topic!!
pls do more like this! It was really helpful and inspiring (for someone who didn't draw for 4-5 years) its very nice and your voice is calming.
ty
this helps me so much :] i used to be scared to do a different art style because it was " too inspired " by other people , so i tried to keep my style consistent , but now I ' m gonna try them
This is simultaneously the easiest and hardest part of the pursuit of art.
I love these chatty videos with you sketching in the back! You should totally do more !
When I was starting how to draw I tried so hard to fine an Artstyle and never was happy with any result of what I drew. You just built up skills along the way. If you suck at anatomy just do it even if it doesn't look good your brain will build muscle memory. Having fun just drawing built my skills without even realizing it.
thank you sm!!! i feel like i found the ending to this suffocating tunnel.
i feel found, i don't feel lost anymore :))
esse video foi UM SINAL pra eu parar de desenhar oq eu n to gostando mais! mt obg mesmo
keep doing videos like that please.
UR ART STYLE IS SO COOL RN UGHH
very beautiful sketching!🥰
gosh i really needed this vid, even tho its kinda old, this helped me a lot, now i feel so more comfy to try more things and combine arts!!! tysm
Although.. the other day i was doodling and created a whole new style that honestly flowed so much better with me, since then i’ve been drawing in that style, but i just feel like my past efforts went to waste.
the drawings are so FREAKING CUTE OMG
Ive recently found a style Id like to stay and improve with in the future after having a massive art break I started drawing without thinking about settling on a style. Because I have hundreds of styles I'd like to try and explore.
Man, you always post advice videos at the right time. This helped a lot with decreasing the pressure I’ve been putting on myself lately. Thanks 🙂✌️✨
I've been struggling lately with art style and have felt very conflicted cause of the range of things I wanna try, but this video man, this video has felt sooo good
I love your art style.
I love this channel, so calm and a great way to relax and feel like we're having a chat. why have I not found this channel sooner
I’ve been following you since the start of 2017! It’s awesome to see u grow as an artist, keep going! 💜
this is so helpful! i have been getting so bored with drawing the same over and over recently, i kind of did and kind of didnt want to change my artstyle but i dont need to! thanks so much!!
How do you freakin draw bodies in different perspectives so good! I love everything you draw and paint! You’re unbelievably awesome!
I’m not a beginner but I stopped creating because of school and actively trying to get an art style. Now I wanna create more and just go with the flow.
Thanks for this video🥺
When you posted this I thought about it,I like to trace to learn for myself but now I tried drawing without doing it. And it’s turning out good!
Love every single video from you 💗 your voice is so calming and the art you make is always so pretty (even if it's just sketching). And also! I was watching you changing styles and I could always see that it was your work and I liked all of the pieces you created 💕
maaaannnn i've been searching for my own style for yeaaarrrsss, and now IM SO GLAD I FOUND IT DAMMIT- if it wasn't because of people like you that explained "how to find your style" well maybe i would still be searching to change mine again haha
also I LOVE UR STYLE OK- i think you just stopped my artblock
Aaaaaa cara que felicidade de você ser brasileira, eu te acompanho já faz um tempinho, mas nunca percebi! 💚💚💚💚💙💙💙💙
Visual Identity, I never thought about that... All I ever did was studying how to make my art better that I never really thought about the viewers being able to recognize my artstyle or not. huh
ahhhhh me encanta tu estilo ypor cierto te quedo geniallll
Eu sou apaixonada pelo seu estilo de desenho
your art is my happiness
I see that you have tons of comments so I don't know if you'll see this, but I love your videos and I watch them when I draw or write or fold laundry. It's like having a friend nearby :) just wanted to say thanks for being awesome (love your art btw)
rewatching the video because I was to mesmerized by your sketchwork..
I really love videos like this!! please make more videos like this, I love them so muchhh
clicked for hatsune miku, stayed for cute art
