PLEASE NOTE: I’m teaching this as requested from the maker and teaching as instructed in the kit. I understand there are different and likely better ways to stitch these. With the kit it has limited supplies and I chose to honor the way instructed to have enough supplied anticipated by the manufacturer. Thank you for all the well meaning advice.

Hi GoodKnitKisses, I was taught by my Dad many moons ago, when going left to right, you go top to bottom and when going right to left, you bottom top, this way the back looks almost like the front.

I was about ready to give up on learning plastic canvas. None of the videos or articles I had read connected with me. Then I found your video! I am so grateful for your clear recording and the way you made this easy to understand and fun, too. Many thanks!

This is perfect. I was in need of a small box and had some plastic canvas lying around that I mostly had used for reinforcing knitting. This tutorial covers everything I need to know to make a little box, thanks!

Wow this is so cool I love doing plastic canvas. This really tickled me to see. It's a craft dont to many people do or teach others about it. My mama taught me as a kid now 45. I haven't made anything in years. Digging out my supplies I have everything on hand. Thanks for sharing.

I just ordered the snowman tissue box from Mary Maxim. I knew how to do the basic stitches, but was clueless in the joining. You answered all my questions, even if I am a couple years late 😁🙃

Ok I had my 'ah' moment. Now i might be able to follow this pattern i have. Im so used to top left to bottom right. This is a bit harder to grasp. I might have to have to have different colors going at once but i will have to see.
    Thanks for the help

I’m sooo glad I found your video. My great grandma Jack used to make these tissue boxes shaped like vehicles. The one I got is a fire truck where the roof opens to place a tissue box in it and there’s a opening to get the tissues. And the engine has a hatch you open where she has 6 coasters she made with fire hydrants on them. I’ve been wanting to go by her idea to make them as a side hustle and for gifts for family

Varna Maddocks thanks for your comment. For basic beginner items you don’t have to do any 3D shaping. You can just cut the shape you like from a sheet and use the stitching shown in the main part of your shape. Then use the overcast stitch for the edges to finish out. The back will not be finished but you can glue on felt. Or you can cut another of the same shape and stitch the same but all one color or a reverse pattern. Then sew the two pieces together when doing the overcast stitches. That way you can have the nicer sides facing outward and the back won’t look messy from all the yarn color or tails moving around.

Your tutorial is incorrect, as was stated below. You start at the top right working down bottom left all the way across or to where you need stop. You then return the opposite way.
You also do not cross leaving those long stitches. You would actually slide your needle under those. Yes. It is the backside. Yes it is not meant to be seen; however the idea is to keep your project as neat and clean as possible. As crafters and sewers do we know we could "slop" a lot of things we do because it's "unseen" or not meant to be "seen" but you always want keep your work neat and clean.
Sure you can do it the way you have shown. I. An string yarn all over the place in the back but it's a waste of yarn for one, two anything going inside can get caught in all those strings and three it looks hideous. I promise you that at some point someone will look inside.
I learned to do this 40 years ago from older women who had been doing this for years and this would have never been accepted by them constantly it was abt keeping your work neat tidy clean. As you were told in comments your wrong. If you want to teach people how to do it correctly it would be nice teach them properly and if they do otherwise that's fine that's their choice. You should also be aware that if anyone did their craft following your instructions and entered it into a 4H contest ...it would be called out and marked incorrectly and you would be handed a red ribbon and a card with notes as to why.
Your project on outside is beautiful. It's nice your teaching this form of craft to others. But please teach it properly.
I also don't mean to be critical nor rude...your just mistaken. People are just trying to point this out to you.
    Keep crafting ....

No. No. No. You are doing it wrong. You start right-left but in BOTTOM to TOP. Or left-right TOP to BOTTOM. otherwise you get UGLY stitches on the opposite side.

    • @GoodKnitKisses
      @GoodKnitKisses  3 года назад +1

Disagree. The kit directions were followed and the item is meant to be viewed from the outside.

Every plastic canvas book has the Basic stitch Illustrated (if i could post a picture of it here, i would have). Just thought i'd let you know, you are teaching it wrong.
