I just "discovered" your second channel at 2:17am and I am delighted by this video. I absolutely love this project and the aesthetically beautiful instrument you created. The patina is marvelous and adds to the visual appeal. I lean into such "accidents" and have dubbed them "Fortuitous Opportunities" as so very many of such "accidents" have given me incredibly positive experiences/results than I would have otherwise enjoyed. For instance, if a waiter mishears me and arrives at my table with an item I did NOT order/would NEVER have chosen to order...I do NOT take them up on the offer to replace the item with the dish I wished to eat. It seems wasteful and nonadventurous to do so. I invariably embrace such honest mistakes and have consequently introduced myself to phenomenal new sensations. It works with forging new connections with strangers. I get a feeling that I should break my typical routine...and in almost every situation...an incredibly delightful conversation ensues. It's a wonderful gift to perceive mistakes in this way. This drum is both beautiful and functional. You're a genius. Love both channels!
Yeah, I wasn't sure if the tuning would work out, I noticed that there didn't seem to be many drums tuned in that key when I was looking online and wondered if there was a reason for that, but it sounds alright to me. Thanks for watching!
Wow! I don’t have the patience or knowledge to do what you just did! You’re exceptional! I Love my tongue drum but it’s not homemade. Yours looks pretty slick! You did a great job and video! Whew! I bet your family loves you hanging around! Blessings!😃
Thank you for that grand inspiration! Love the multitude of ways you point out and remind us of safety. As good makers, we get consumed by the whirling of our minds and neglect the fragility of our bodies. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Thank you again. 😎
I have a small kiln which MAY be large enough for something like this. I am planning on making a microcontroller setup for it, but, wondering if there is any specific program suggested for getting the metal just right for this purpose
I looked in the phone directory for hiring an "expert on not killing yourself with a propane tank" and I couldn't find any. So..... I'm thinking of becoming one! I'll surely hold a monopoly in my area....perhaps the world! Man, I'm gonna be rich! Awesome video BTW. I too can not stop making things! Make on my Brother, make on!!
make a plug for the bottom hole from thermal plastic, its what i did, when the hole is open, it resonates more, with a more tinny sound, i prefer it with the plug in, i find its better to cut a hold, and use a soft plug, i made mine out of silicone in the end, it seems to dampen some of the high end off the drum, and you get more of the low end notes, so good idea to cut the bottom hole, and use some sort of soft plug, and then you have the best of both worlds really.
@@LostWax2 hey there man, not a problem at all, the hole i made 80mm, big enough to put my hand in so i can place magnets to change tunings, i made up a pipe that is 81mm, and on the bottom of the pipe, i made a collar to go over the 81mm pipeon the bottom, making a lip of about 2mm on the bottom of the plug, hot glued it to a nice flat base, sprayed it with mold releace, and done a silicone poor, making a plug about half an inch in depth, i have a pan i bought, and just looked at the plug it came with, and made my mesurments from there, also, if your pan rings alot, or has that tinny sounds after sounding notes, you can add some foam tape on the inside, it will dampen certen spots, and take away some of the annoiying high end wine, two woks also work great for making slit pans, you can fine tune them verry well with a jewellers saw, and a ott 0/6 blade, watching your vid, give me an idea to make a water udu out of a propane tank, maybe a vid for you, i hope this will help you out, if you would like to know anything els, pick my brain for more, then be my guest, really enjoiying your vids, keep up the energy Mr, top man, thank you verry much =].
@@LostWax2 Was just thinking of you today Chris, maybe it's to your intrest, maybe not, make a search for pvc fujara, kalyuka, kaval, if its not you, then not a worry, appreciate you
yep, or shove a silk scarf in there, or some paper towels. And get some 'proper' hard beaters while you're at it, for the band. Great job, you smashed it, thanks so much.
You can purchase depressurizer plugs for cylinders. Of course, if you make a drum without the danger of BOOMING DEATH IN FIERY BLOOD AND BODY PARTS I'd have to say the drum will end up lifeless and uninteresting because no JUJU went into its making :B
@@LostWax2 Yes, I was surprised when I had come across them at our local hardware shop. It hadn't been on my radar before but chocked it away as "may be useful to know some day".
Hehe. Yep. I do have one and am terrible at getting a good weld. I didn't use it on this project to make it a little more accessible to the average person.
Love the various other tidbits of resourcefully crafty engineering! You earned my sub!
Thanks!!
This DIY tutorial was the easiest and safest one! Great job.❤

Welcome here!!
I am 100% going to have to give this a try! Thanks for the inspiration!
Wholesome af. Tuning is G major pentatonic, a very good choice. Love that you included a PD racer shot too.

I have no skill to play the drums whatsoever, but to me, the kid playing it at the end looks like a machine!!! well done
Yep, my son has some very talented friends! It's great when they come over and make music:)
Dude this is freaking awsome! I love how the color turned out.
Happy accidents!
Just great. Looks and sounds very good. I enjoyed the video. ❤
Not only made a tank drum, you made tacos. Love the multi tasking.
Tacos and music, what could be better!
Super resourceful- Thank you so much this is awesome and super easy to follow great tutorial!
That was fun and kind of scary. It looked like you took all of the safety precautions, though. Nice work, Chris!!!
Thanks! 👍
Looks so high quality, so cool how you did that. The patina looks amazing, happy accidents are great little gifts.

Those three guys would be a smash hit at the Mos Eisley Cantina! This might be the coolest thing you have made yet! Amazing!
😂 For sure they would!!

Yes! So true, I can so easily get caught up in a project that I neglect to take the extra bit of time to do it safely!
TEA!!! Good job. You deserve a cup of tea.
That is amazing. Oh and if u saw the ends too much, I saw a video just before that said u can sand the tops of tongues to make them shorter.
Yes, or grind off a little on the end of the tongue to make it thinner.
Love this! Now I gotta get the Mister to make this!
Indeed!!
You always make such fun items. A beautiful musical drum. Thank you.
My pleasure!
This is a really cool project, thanks for sharing!

Very cool. And the wonderful ugly mug made a fleeting cameo too. 🧡
Indeed it did!
Tongue drum in a boat: love it!

Hmmm, that's really interesting. Mind me asking how you made your silicone plug?

Close to a "hand drum". Also tip, to keep from rusting you can put silica gel packets inside.

Would you be willing to share a copy of your tongue patterns? I want to make one of them but I'm not very good with that sort of thing

To tune it back up, if necessary, just remove material from the tongue.
