Hi everybody! Recently there have been companies who have stolen footage from this video without my permission. If you are interested in buying your steel tongue drums, you can contact me for example in instagram @hamy_musiikki and I can give you recommendations of companies who make quality drums. If you do not want to make a drum yourself, please buy from a company who cares about their work/clients and not just money. Peace! 🙏🏻
Awesomeness, I had never heard of a Tongue drum until an hour ago and now thanks to you. I know I have all the tools and tank right here to make one. Wish me luck lol
Kevin R Moore good luck my friend :) I have also uploaded a video of how to make a shaman drum. Also I will be adding new original music to my channel in two weeks. Please let me know how your tank drum turned out! Peace! :)
@@hamy_music_finland seriously.. Grateful for the description and tongue sizes and notes etc... Every other video as great as they are is missing something.. So i could never really confidently make one with tongues printed out and all... Awesome.. This is what RUclips is all about🙏
@@hamy_music_finland I have one question regarding the notes...I only see 7 on the scale but on your drum you have more than 7 ...please explain this ...because I have no idea. You only have 7 notes on each scale ...but you have 9 notes on the actual instrument...I really would like to understand ...because I won't be able to make one without those other 2 notes I guess and also understanding why they were omitted out of the description
@@GovanBassonTotalkaosMotion The instructions are not "perfect" either, because the lenght also depends on the thickness of the steel. If you want to make more tongues to the scale, you have to just find them with the tuner. The tongues have the same width in the octaves they are in, but you just cut the lenght so that it is in the scale you want
So what I mean is do not take the descriptions of the sizes as "specific" as mentioned here. I have made many drums after this first drum, and what I keep in mind is that the width is the same and you can add as many tongues as the drum can fit. You just cut them to match the note you want. This you find with the tuner. Have fun and try :)
Hi Hamy Thanx for the simple explenations. Have started to make one but missing the notes so, pls if you don't mind guiding me to get the toungue drum done :-)
Thanks for showing everybody how hard it is to make a steel tongue drum. I never finished my first one. You did a really good job on it esp for your first. I love your grated welding table btw. I could of used that a few times.
levi record Thanks man, really appreciate it. I also love your work :) I have made a few more steel tongue drums now and yeah, it takes time but is really worth it
Thanks for the video you have sent. But i steal have a few questions, like how to tune semitones up (the sharps and the flats) as well and following oсtavies A; A2; A3; ets. I would appreciate this mach.
The larger the tongue, the deeper the note. You can find the sizes of the tongues in the description. You make sharps and flats by carefully tuning the drum between the full notes. For example: if you want to make F#, you cut the tongue lower in tune until you get to G, and carefully go a little more lower until your tuner says F#. Pretty simple. I hope this helps!
Hello your tutorial and very nice detailed thanks :) I would like to ask you a couple of tips. the tank is better propane or gas? I have a gas cylinder and I would like to try this one. I have to be honest I am scared to impact the question of immersing the tank for a few times in the water you could give me some info on your experience thanks.
I have no experience in gas, so I can't really tell you any details about which sounds better, but I habe to warn you to be careful with the gas because I have no idea on how it reacts. I have done 4 drums now, all have been with a propane tank. I am very careful with the gas not staying in the tank, that's why I usually fill it up completely a couple of times. You can't be careful enough when handling these things. Have fun and safety first :)
Looks like a company called "Panda Drum" stole this video and is using it in their marketing without your permission. Not sure if that's allowed, but seems illegal.
hy maan, great song... WHATS THE APP YOU ARE USING?!?!?!?!?!?! im trying here, im at the third try at this moment kkkk the first one has some notes, the secound i did all wrong moved by a not calm spirit , now i did some template before, did as it need to be made i guess... but the cylinder im using have 250mm( diameter, and 1,4 mm thick (0.0565") its R410a model, the air conditioner gas container. its not reusable so its easy to get, but i dont know if its too low the thickness...
Murilo Marques The app I was using here was for android but I believe it does not exist anymore. Another tuning app for free is tuner-pitched for android, it works with me for other instruments too. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stonekick.tuner
Im curious as to why you have notes both sides , how on earth can you play both top and bottom , if I ignore the underneath can I just use the top with fewer notes ??
Hi, good question. I have notes on both sides because the sides are tuned to differe t scales (see the end of my video where I play both sides seperately). When I play the other side, and the drum is on my lap, then the side on the bottom is muted by my clothes because the tongues do not vibrate. You can make the tongues only on one side if you want, that is completely possible and fine. I just tuned both sides of my drum so it is kind of like "two drums on one". Feel free to ask more if you have any problems.
You mean when you cut too much? Then you have to make the tongue smaller by filing it as shown in the video. I have not tried welding it, but I think that is not the best idea :) if you try welding please tell me how it turned out
@@hamy_music_finland yes tomorrow i will try to fix it with the help of Welding.. hopeing for the best result .. Send me your email id i will send you vedio
Alexsky Coy The making of the drum took me like two weekends because I made the video and it was my first drum. Now I could probably make it in like two days :)
David Russell I don’t have one either 🙂 this was filmed at a local metal workshop who had them. You can just use an angle grinder to do the job, it should work you well enough 👌🏻😊
