    I love how you are reading your dogs body language, rotties are finicky but great dogs. I wanna train my 4 year old rottie (because my parents failed to do so) so I love seeing other people train and really connect with there rotties

    My daughter suggested I should teach paw. Glad I watched this. Great!
    You beautiful boy was so cute when he done the 'touch' before he got it!
    Happy Christmas :)

      In all honestly this is quite a technical way of teaching paw! I think I can definitely make a new video making paw easier! 🙈

    Thanks man, I've managed to get my 6 month old Bichon to give me his paw! He was really skittish about me even going near his paw but this method has worked really well!

    I’m trying to do this with my dog but she keeps Sniffing for the treats and I’m trying to get her to paw but getting no progress she just looks at me confused please help

      Slow it down.. make the first step literally just a sit and wait! That’s all, sit, wait.. two secs later reward and gradually make it more difficult. The amazing news is that she is super driven and interested in the food! Trust me this is a great problem! Also remember to have treats in one hand and the paw hand is empty! This will help a lot! Don’t alternate! Make sure pup knows your hand is empty before you try and bring awareness to her paw :) hope this helps!!

    What do you use for training treats? I was wondering if using my pups kibble would work just as well.

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining

      Hey Amanda!! Yeah I was literally just using his dinner for this trick!! He absolutely prefers to eat through training like this than just in a bowl!! Love being able to utilise kibble!

      Great question… I was thinking, that’s a lot of treats! Making a game at mealtime makes such good sense!
      Great video… I’ve seen others where the pup learned after a few tries, thank you for showing the real process!!!

    Your videos have been great teaching my puppy heel, sit and focus but when trying to teach paw he doesn’t seem to understand and walks away from me do you have any advice and seen this behaviour before when teaching this?

    How long did you crate him? How long did you play with him when he was a puppy?

    Thank you for this! I’d like to do this with our four-month-old puppy in hopes that it will help when we put her step-in harness on. Any advice for how to approach asking her to give the other paw? Like, do you say “paw” for the left one while your hand is near it and then just do the same thing for the right one? Or do I need to train the other paw on a different command, like “other paw”?

    • @cyberlion6411
      @cyberlion6411 2 года назад

      First you need to teach her and make sure she 100% fully understands that the word paw is associated with them giving you their paw as you bring your hand down, after, it’s just a matter of time if you say something like “ give me the other paw” it has more to it so it sounds slightly different but has a ring similar to what he is used to, and you put your hand out. Make sure he or she is on a very stable non-slippery surface as this will make it much harder for them then you think. You can start to do the same thing with touching the back of his or her paw until she starts giving in and eventually she will know every time. After that you can even handshake!!!!! XD i find that part adorable, make sure to make it as rewarding as possible for them will a very happy and pleased tone they associate with your happiness or that gets them exited every time they do it successfully, and give them a treat if you have , (it will make the process much faster) , it’s okay to even physically grab her other paw a few times as you do all this after she gives you the first one and you say the trigger word so she knows the movement of her paw has something to do with why she is getting rewarded, and eventually bit by bit, she will understand you are trying to get both paws at once!! If you are just saying to give the left paw instead of the right one, honestly all you need is to say paw but once she has the first one perfected with her dominant paw, and you know she understands it, you start using your other hand make sure she sees your other hand go down so that she does not get as confused. And she knows which to give.

    Are you rewarding him with treats or his own food? Is it bad to give them that many treats?

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining
      @TheCanineCoachDogTraining  3 года назад +2

      Hey Taylor! Hope you’re good!? Yeah here I am literally just using biscuits! I usually try and use the lowest value treat as possible.. meaning if I can get away with using biscuits in the house I will! Reason being I don’t want to de value the reward! If I use chicken for example everyday in the house he’s not going to value and work for the reward as much when we are in a distracting environment! Also depends on what you’re teaching and how much energy you need the pup to offer! Higher the food reward higher the energy, lower the food reward lower energy:) hope this helps

    I taught my dog paw but hes a border collie and there hair grows really fast on there paws and hes scared of scissors I forgot to desensitize him to scissors and cutters when he was young and a little bit more stupid and when I told him to give my his paw and brought the scissors out he freaked out and now he is scared of any trick involving his paw but I really need the paw trick for the sports I'm doing and his hair on his paw also needs trimming cause of the agility equipment and now I cant even touch him near his paw how do I control the situation and fix this I would be real grateful if you can help me.

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining
      @TheCanineCoachDogTraining  2 года назад

      Hey anuschke! So I would say really take a step back here and not try to push the dog too fast! I would put a treat on the dogs nose (a really really good treat like chicken) and when the dog is trying to get to the chicken touch his paw with your other hand, once you do immediately release the treat before he tries to look at your hand! Start with that and let me know how you get on! Remember go slow, and do lots of reps until he is super comfy with this step!
