Hi, thank you so much for the video. I am looking to get into game testing and I see you have told allot to apply in a local game development studio. But are there any online courses which you would recommend before I can apply so i have a more clear understanding and knowledge before applying.
I think there are some courses, but most of the knowledge you will learn at the job, since some terms are specific to a company/studio. Search for common gaming jargon, this will help.
I wonder if you don't get a clue in a certain level or don't find it and you get stuck? Is that ok, are you at a risk of being fired because you haven't spotted ir or searched in thoroughly enough? Does that happen sometimes?
Yes, sometimes some people don't see a pretty important issue, because they are used to do that mission/area, that is why teams usually change their testing area so a fresh eye can have a look at it from time to time. You need to do some pretty bad stuff to get fired, but as bug reporting goes, each part of the game is checked by a lot of people, so you should not worry :)
There is no standard questions, the idea is that you tell your story and why you want that job, questions are there just to push you towards saying those things.
@@cosminbury i have a couple of questions if you could help me. I don't have anything passed a high school education but game testing is my dream job. @@wigglytuffgaming Game tester is a entry level job, so high-school should be enough. If you don't want to move to a town where the big gaming companies are, you could always try freelancing, I know there are some platforms out there, but never used one, not sure if you can make living off of them, and overall I don't really trust them. Hey, I think there might be some freelancing jobs in game testing, that you might be able to do from home, but you will have to search online for it. If you have any degree and knowledge in programming, you might be able to do that in gaming, so try to find a job in that area, also freelancing in game programming might be available.

You will need good English skills, both written and spoken and create your CV. As for "where?", that you have to search on your own the closest game development studio that has a tester position available.
At the beginning, no, but there is a lot of work further one, not just playing and finding bugs. Documents, statistics, design, plans... and it gets even more and more while you progress in seniority. It's basically like any development job/field, you start doing the easy part and learning constantly, till you start coming up with your own ideas to implement in your work, train new people, management, and so on..
Passion for games (knowledge of different game genres, consoles and platforms) Very good written English skills You need to add skill points in patience and persistence, to perform meticulous testing and ensure accuracy at all times As part of the team, you need to interact with other adventurers and have good interpersonal and communication abilities Special abilities: fast learner, creative and proactive Superpowers: reliable, punctual and with a positive attitude All adventurers and superheroes need to be a little nerdy as well and show basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) No previous work experience is necessary. www.ubisoft.com/en-US/careers/search.aspx

Cool Video! Very informativ!!
Thanks ! and thanks for commenting!
Thanks :)
Awesome man
Thanks!
What questions do interviewers ask for game testing??
There is no standard questions, the idea is that you tell your story and why you want that job, questions are there just to push you towards saying those things.
@@cosminbury i have a couple of questions if you could help me. I don't have anything passed a high school education but game testing is my dream job. Unfortunately i live in a very small town in Texas and i don't think there are any places near. How would i go about becoming a game tester? Can someone like me even get the job? I have about 20 years of gaming under my belt. And about 5 of those are competitive.
I would recommend to see where is the closest gaming studio of any company, and try wither to commute there or to move as close as possible to that studio.
Yes, I believe anyone can get become a game tester, you need English skills (for those in non-English spiking countries), basic logic and common sense, to be a team-player/social, and love games :)
When you say competitive, does that mean tournaments, professional gaming league, championships like in the big stuff? If yes, there are companies that hire such pro-players for balancing testing teams.
Hope this helps, best of luck!

I think there may be companies that hire people with disabilities or special needs (I hope I am not offending anyone by saying this), but playing games is one thing, testing them is really different and involves paying attention to details, and being able to report them using a specific template and standards.
Nevertheless, I encourage your son to try to get a job in the gaming industry, I am sure he will be treated equally in the interview and selection phase.
