I wish recruiters would ever give a constructive feedback upon rejections. They never do
They probably don't have the time
@@nuxapower But why is he saying ask for feedback? they never give you feedback, they just state that due to overwhelming applications we can't give feedback blah blah.
Try to give 200 feedbacks on 200 people a day.
I just wish they can tell if we are accepted or not. I hear many people who are ignored or confused because they dont know whenever they are accepted or not. It just a silent from them

3:22 : Great advice, but only if the company in question actually has real people sending rejection emails. I'd say for all AAA and some AA developers, you'll apply through and be rejected through a noreply email, and they also don't have any direct email for the recruiter on their website. I get that with a high volume of applications that it isn't feasible to have it all done manually, but it does make the feedback part of the process much more difficult.

You mentioned being apart of communities. Are there any online communities you would recommend? I'm focusing on modeling/texturing game assets and it's lonely, lol. My city has nothing. 😢
Hej Massive, jag har hört att man kan kallas till intervju på rekommendation av någon som känner till ens arbete eller arbetar hos er. D.vs när man har sökt en tjänst. Stämmer det?
I've always had a knack for customer-facing roles, throw in a long moderately successful stream career and that I've been in moderation and community-focused positions, I've been trying for nearly two years to get my foot in the door in community management. I feel that having a "mundane" CV full of customer-facing jobs like management at a grocery store just doesn't pull the same attention from a recruiter or hiring team, despite the significant amount of skills and experience that cross over.
I just want to have a position where I can provide my ideas and have them taken into consideration; specifically for Rainbow Six Siege. One example off the top of my mind is to make it where when players talk in game chat, there is a voice changer that uses the operator’s voice they are playing as, and, that there is proximity chat between the two teams. I feel like this would give a more realistic and cool sense of this game, but also have a comedic side to it as well.
I’m like smack dab in the middle of 17 years old, at what age or level of experience would networking physically be something that I should definitely be doing? _if it changes based on the job i’d like primarily to have something to do with programming_

At this time, focus on developing skills and keep perfecting it, whenever you get the time. After you get a whole idea of how the industry works as a whole, choose what department you enjoy in it and keep focusing on those skills. ( For example: Concept art, Modelling, Animation, Programming, etc.) If there's a specific company or genre you would like to work in, present your portfolio in a manner that's similar to the artstyle of that company, they might like that.

Is it a good idea for my portfolio to have a section where I show off work I have done within certain constraints? I.E. World settings which I do not personally pick but am instead assigned.
Programming is just boring to me and I do understand the basics of programming (I could not confidently make a multiplayer networked game but I understand the process) should I mention that I do have an entry level understanding of C# and C++ and an overall understanding of the use of variables as well as manipulating your environment during runtime with code.

Really nice videos. I enjoy watching these a lot. I had an internship as a QA for The Division at Ubisoft for a while and since then I have finished my Graphic Design studies, so I was interested in applying to a studio.
I am unsure though what should my portfolio contain, if I've not decided yet which Art department section I wish to specialise in. Should i just put everything together?
If you have a specific studio you want to go to, check their web page for what roles they are looking for. highlight the things in your portfolio that fits that.
Hi! Put all of your best work together in a general portfolio, on ArtStation for instance (even if it’s a mix of character/environment-art)… And then when you apply for a new position, you can usually add attachments, so you could condense and tailor your portfolio. This could also be about the art style. We’d expect to see a vastly different portfolio for a Division application, compared to one for e.g. a Rayman game.
Hope this helps!

Ubisoft? Dang
As a 32 years old game developer, making game for over 4 years, with a good portfolio, reviewed resume, 2 years of experience working with educational games, I can't break into game industry, it's time to take back to web development. Also everyone has the same tips, getting sick of this for real, maybe it's my location, but this keeps freaking me out.
I just enrolled to a university for game art for 3D modeling and animation. I’m pretty good at art and also have a long history playing many video games from big AAA franchises. I’m excited to work in the videogame industry. One big question is I know companies mostly use photoshop but is it necessary? I use procreate and I can import my work as a PSD file to photoshop and the brushes for photoshop works for procreate too. Can procreate be used for work or no?
I’m in the same situation with procreate... I wonder that as well
If you'll work as a Concept Artist, you can use wherever software, even hand painting, because you'll need to represent concepts visually. All designers will need at the end are drawings/paintings (Artworks) that represent their ideas. In this case, it's about the vision building of the project.
If you're going to work as a Game Artist (Drawning the chatacters 2D/Environments/props), as long as your Procreate assets can be imported into the Engine used and render correctly, you can use it. Unless your Art department works exclusively with Photoshop and you working with Procreate may slow the process (Keep in mind that PS is a much more mature product than Procreate).
As @Skanda said, whenever your job as an artist is to draw stuff, it will be considered as Concept artist, they're the starting point when it comes to world and asset creation after the director and story board artist has given enough information about what they want they're imaginary world to be filled with.

How can i become a Game AI(Artificial Intelligence) developer
I have ideas that's all . I can't code , I can't manage money or people. Is there a job for the "idea guy"
Absolutely not
From whats happening now I doubt people will want to go back to work in "the typical office" i think times are changing in society in where and how we work. People have more time for family and friends, less pressured more focused and they generally work better remotely. I would like to produce my art have full control and accepting how to improve then sell it online without a company i work for owning it.
What would be the minimum or maximum age to enter?
old enough to have a job
It is very difficult to enter the industry when experience of at least 3 years is always required. A new graduate student with no contacts in the industry has no chance! it is almost IMPOSSIBLE. Say what you want, but it's about having contacts. Every time one applies for a job, they get the answer that they need experiencel For example in sound design, there is no feedback about the Demo or the application . The feedback is that they want one with more experience.
There are many paths into the video game industry. We have gathered some tips on our website: www.massive.se/career/career-tips/ . You may also check out our show, the Fika Sessions, where we talk with our game developers. All of them have unique inspirational tales of how they got into the industry: ubi.li/dMkyP . Good luck!
I think thats what internships are for.
@@seashell9570 You are right but here in Sweden for example: No internship is offered so students can have practical experience and to have the opportunity to build networks.
Most of them tries to make their own projects
Of course it is important to have good data such as a demo. But the ones I know have been offerend work in the gameindurstry as juniors manly through contacts...
@@elektra1968 Did you attempt to make contacts then?
@@seashell9570
I do not speak individually. I speak generally about the gameindeustry. It is difficult for newly graduated students without a network of contacts and without experience to find work. There is also poor feedback when applying for a job. That was my point :)
I applied for a tester job in ubi.. Idk what's gonna happen.. I'm pretty sure my cv was amateur material but.. I'm confident.. Let's see
Have you heard back from them?
so is it possible to get a job in game dev without having a degree, i mean with just experience?
There's a lot of ways to enter the gaming industry. The job ads specify what experience and knowledge is needed for each role, and that experience could be acquired from various places.
Is it possible be be an animator and a programmer in game dev at the same time? I am very much invested in both and can't choose my specialization
Hey I know this is a month old question and you might have an answer already, but just in case:
If you decide to both learn some art skills and programming, you will end up with a very desirable portfolio. But, it's hard to learn multiple skills at once so make sure you practice one thing at a time. Honestly the best way to learn both would be to just make a small game yourself, and have that as your portfolio.
I'd suggest looking at becoming a Technical Animator or a Rigger, these involve both programming and animation.
For me I feel like going to college for game design was the worst decision I made. I’ve spent so much time not learning anything and mostly been doing these stupid electives. I would probably have a better chance making it to the industry if I just worked a 9-5 then in my free time just build up my skills and apply at a studio
I am sorry to hear that. The game design degrees always seemed the strangest to me as I have never seen an entry level game design role unless it was for a game design internship.
Yeah game design in general is a very broad subject. There are so many aspects of it from level design to animation. I would just pick a subject and focus mainly on that like programming
@@arsenalprime6933 I think that is the way. You specialize in something and getting a job doing that

Try taking classes either self taught or a course and build a portfolio specifically for that game company. You should have a portfolio for each company you apply for. Every game company has different art styles and that style is there brand so try mimicking that into your work. Also if a company is mostly 2d art then do a 2d portfolio and if it’s 3D then do a 3D portfolio
Top tips from a 15 yea industry vet that has worked on multiple AAA titles:
1. Be a woman (this is honest, and gives you an edge)
2. Be multi-faceted. You cannot just be a"designer" or an "engineer". You can of course specialize, having a secondary skill is crucial for longevity.
3. Ability to critically think through problems. Demonstrate problems you've identified with the games the studio makes you are applying for. Then solve those problems, it will blow them away.
4. Have a focused portfolio of only your best work. Some sketches (if an artist are welcomed for demonstrating your process to tackling visual design). If an engineer, then know your fundamentals well, be able to talk through the reasoning of your code. Demonstrate thinking big picture.
5. Do game jams. This one is a no brainer to see the benefits along the lines of cross disciplinary tools you will be exposed to,and the experience you get when making a game. You'll also get a portfolio piece out of it if you're lucky.
Thanks. I saw ‘be a woman’ and now I’m motivated. Let’s go ladies.
