- Building a custom joinery unit for my old Swedish cabin kitchen and boot room. Creating shelving for pantry items, recessing the refrigerator and making a wardrobe for the entry hall. I'm on a tight budget, so I'm using painted MDF and construct it in a simple way, using 6 sheets of MDF.

You inspire me. I'm 75 and I built a shelf in my kitchen cabinet. I went to the lumber store and found wood in the junk pile, they did free cuts according to my measurements and I came home and installed my shelf. Your films are beautiful to watch. Thank you.

Yes! It has had the same effect on me. My daybed collapsed when then front wooden slat broke…so I am in the process of fixing it. Because I love that daybed. And I don’t have the extra money to buy a new one.

So the projects you have already accomplished almost all alone in 1,5 years:
- insulated pipes
- water pump house
- garden beds
- green house
- growing some of your own food
- demolished nearly the whole downstairs from inside
- closed old and also added new windows
- window frames
- built an outside wall where there used to be a door
- demolished inside wall
- designed new layout inside
- built a toilet room from scrach + decided the waste system in it
- downstairs wall paneling
- replaced ceiling joists
- replaced floor joist
- downstairs ceiling paneling + painting
- built new flooring here and there
- designed and built a new kitchen
- chose suitable new systems in it
- built integrated shelving units
- made bedroom / office cosier
- added better lighting
(- and what did I forget?)
You did all this while learning the technics and using new tools AND filming + editing everything for others to see!
You have been SO productive in those conditions. We are impressed! ✨

Due to a hidden plumbing leak, the gut renovation of our home is 85% complete. I'm doing as much as I can myself. Labor costs are astronomically high and quality of workmanship is ridiculously low. Your videos give me the boost I need to continue.

You teach me that it’s ok to be the person you are.
I start my days slowly, I do what I want and need to do each day.
Every day is different.
I spend a lot of time fixing simple meals; veggies, fruit, grains, tea. I enjoy what I eat and eat very healthy.
Some days I hang out laundry to dry, even in the winter. It’s January here and I will hand things out today.
I salvage other people’s discards, fix them up and sell at flea markets.
I enjoy keeping things out of the landfill. I screw, glue, refinish, paint, fix whatever is required and then feel a sense of accomplishment.
I also teach yoga and that makes enough to pay my bills.
Otherwise I live like a retired person but will probably never retire!
I enjoy what I do so why would I stop?

I'm just a older lady living in Washington state and not a lot of good things happen here but I absolutely love watching your videos, just wanted to tell you that.
How much time it must take to get the drone out, set up the cameras to show all this..Time consuming..!

Wood glue and sawdust, mix up a paste, fill gaps, sand and paint. Might work out for you.

Yes, that´s a good old "trick" !
Gap unfortunately too big for simply filling, will have to add bits of wood and then ill probably caulk!
I use this glue/sawdust paste to fill erroneous screw holes so bugs/spiders don't make their homes in there. 💖🌞🌵😷

Hello Wild Rosie. We love your videos, viewed from a small island in Denmark. You are a delight. A tip on making your own oat drink/milk, should you wish to make your own: 1 mug of oats: 4 mugs of cold water in a bowl. Leave to stand for a while 1-24 hrs. Using a hand held whizzer give it a good whirl. Sieve through regular mesh sieve. Pour into a bottle and keep in the fridge. Shake well before use. Keep in fridge. Lasts a while...and saves dosh!
If you use the blender for only 1-2 minutes, no soaking before and strain, it'll be less slimy. (Because, let's be honest here, oat is slimy unless processed with enzyms like commercial oat milk.)
You are a super determined young lady. Nothing was going to stop you completing that shelving!! Thank you for letting us know that all was well when you got home from your trip.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful journey of life with us. I did something very similar as you only in the Sierra Mountains in Northern california in my little cabin here on 8 in the forest. Its a good life and a dream come true. The weather is a bit more tolerable here than in Sweden but more expensive as well. Im curious what area of Sweden you are in. probably not a good thing to divulge on the internet but a rough ballpark would be enough. I do think of visiting Sweden and possibly buying a summer home. What a treat it is to follow you on your journey. Caulking would help to fill the seams and gaps and they sell paintable kind so you can paint it to look more seamless. All the little imperfections should give you pause to celebrate because you worked hard to build those units and shelves and weren’t afraid to tackle the projects. You are an inspiration

You’re so inspiring!! I love watching what you’re able to accomplish by yourself 💪 In case it might be helpful - I believe most fridges have changeable handles, so with a bit of work you would be able to open the door from the other side (the kitchen side)!
First thing i noticed as well. Even some of the most expensive kitchen redo's on TV end up with the fridge door opening to the wrong side. It's one of my Pet Peeves!

You also inspire me Rosie. I am a female and nearly 70 and at one stage thought I just wouldn’t be able to do the things I used to do however you have taught me that I still can, just use more patience and kindness to myself.
The joinery is beautiful and so cleverly designed.
It may sound a little odd to say, but I adore a boot room. So necessary, practical. Amazingly, most homes in the states don't have such a designated space. (We call them mud rooms.)

The great thing about the slow construction is it gives you time to live in the space and really understand what you need and the best layout efficiency. I love that you have planed a place for recycle bins
Electric cords don’t have to wrap over and around walls. Use a hole saw and cut round holes in that wall behind the microwave and through the back of the shelf to reach the plug.
I'm so glad that all was well with your home on your return. I love what you have done around your fridge, with the shelves and area for hanging clothes and your recycling bins. It's all looking so cute and you're very cleve to be doing this yourself. Wish I was more like you.

Hi Rosie, don't forget my advice to you to hire a licensed electrician to check the safety of the electric installations, because you can't do everything yourself for your safety and for the law, and the incurance but continue building as I am follow....

The shelving looks amazing - great work! If you aren't happy you can always revise a few areas with new material and use the old material for other projects. What a beautiful transformation of your kitchen since the beginning!

It's so nice to see your home coming together bit by bit. You give such a realistic view of what it would take to work on something like this on your own. Really enjoying your videos! I know this is an older video..sorry. I just wanted to suggest getting or (knowing your expertise) making a pair of "gaiters" for your hiking boots. Would keep your sock warm and dry walking through the snow. They are commonly used by hikers who don't want to gear up in full snow suit. Very inexpensive to buy or make your own.
