I went to one of these in Reykjavik last year and loved it. I had no idea there was one at Barry, but as a regular M4 driver I shall be visiting- thanks.
Highlight for me is the former railway carriages, which look to be of the Mk2D/2E/2F type, sealed non-opening windows and in their service days, full air conditioning and 100mph running for use on CrossCountry services. Superseded by the Mark 3 coaches and now only operated on charter trains, a lot have become static accommodation blocks for volunteers at heritage railways. Or in this case, covered seating areas or cafes from old buffet cars. A nod to Barry and it’s railway history. Good old Dai Woodham!
@@hubnotes That would make sense as they were converted from Mk2F carriages for specific use on Gatwick Express. Given the classification of Class 488. Withdrawn around the 2000 - 2005 mark.
I'm not sure how much your videos are appreciated, trust me after a long weekend working they are the best destress treatment out there. Thank you....plus good foodie tips as well!
Hi Both, A far cry from the Fish+Chips I had when growing up in Barry in the 50s+60s. Glad you had a lovely day and enjoyed the amazing looking food. 🥧🧁👍👍
I'll have to check that out at some point. If I'd have eaten what you'd purchased I think I'd turn solid. Oddly I'm a tad hungry now and year cheesecake but I don't have any. It looks well presented and very clean and no one knew you were there so none of this improved service just for the HubNutters. Definitely worth a try. Many thanks Ian and Carly for sharing.
Great review, and you’re so right, one of those little treasures that you would never have known existed, so well done! Already told Mrs that we must visit next time we’re in Blighty! Keep ‘em comin! JCHK
Barry is technically the home of Butlins! Billy Butlin was on holiday there when he and his fellow guests were kicked out of their lodgings by the landlady's - the weather was foul and he looked at everyone looking miserable in the shelters thinking there must be a better way of spending a break away be the sea. So he bought a turnip farm in Ingolmelds near Skegness, built and opened his first camp and the rest is history! His final camp was Barry Island - since closed and demolished.
Good food times! I'll be sure to go there if I'm ever in the vicinity, as I love places like that. My culinary highlight this weekend was a home-made chicken Delhi biryani. I look forward to having the leftovers for tea tomorrow ^^
Seen these before...'The Dudgies' did a feature on them a while back If you get back to Barry Island you should do a Collab with them Great video though Carly and Ian 👍
These places are popping up all over the UK - the High Street is so expensive for businesses and so many people want to start a business and be independent - the quality of food is restaurant quality but not priced that way
I avoid places where one has to order by an app as not a smartphone owner (just have a basic mobile), if they don't have a touch screen or table/counter service they don't get my custom. It also makes the passing of any dietary requirements difficult, mine are no raw egg and no added salt to a dish or its ingredients, that has caused a few 'Gordon Ramsey' style arguments with chefs at times.

Gawtick Express carriages apparently. There a lovely touch, and really well integrated.

Could be a good series this. Alternative off the motorway eateries. Keep up the good work 👍
Great review. Nice place including the food on offer. Worth a trip down.

Great video both!
Looks like a hike from Lancashire down in to South Wales is going to have to happen this year!! 😃
surprised you two can walk after that lot ! 😀
Will be on holiday in South Wales in July.
Yum South Wales l live in New South Wales named by Captain Cook because when he landed at Kurnell it reminded him of South Wales
Great video, looks like a lovely place to eat and a great place to visit

Looks like a fantastic place, the donuts look amazing.
Now we've eaten them, we can confirm that they're delicious!

Hubnut and Miss HubNut are really the Gregg Wallace of car videos
Looks brilliant and reminds me of a box park in an old bus station in Aarhus. The wraparound app is a brilliant idea.
Have definitely been there as my daughter lives opposite!
Looks like a Boxpark. They're all over the place. Ideal if there's a group of you that like to eat different things.
Looks good - handy for an upcoming trip to the aircraft museum at nearby St Athan

What a great place. As for Motorway services I only ever use the toilets.
Cool, yummy 🥰
Is it close to the bus museum
Seeing the food, now I'm hungry, and I'm in the northern half of County Durham so very little chance of my being able to go there... :P
Nice place!
Unfortunately this video is just making me hungry!!!! 😂 🍴
What a fantastic place! I could gain some serious weight there, I mean, a jar full of cheesecake? Just wow!😁
I went to Barry once.
It was closed.
Actually a true story! 🙂
Just watched rate my takeaway and now hubgrub 🤓👍
AY UP MR AND MRS HUBNUT
more hubgrub vids please!
Is this great location near the legendary scrapyard from whence so many locomotives were rescued?
Indeed so.
Is that on the site of Barry Scrapyard?
It could well be. The Asda and houses are on the site and this is right next to both.
Seen these before...'The Dudgies' did a feature on them a while back
If you get back to Barry Island you should do a Collab with them
Great video though Carly and Ian 👍
Sausage and egg sandwich with a bit of pepper.
Lush whats accruing. Gavin and Stacey land in welsh wales .how do you get pekach on a bus you poke in on
Great video, glad you had a nice day out :) nice of you guys to take us along, what car were you in?
Thanks. We were in Betty.
Looks like fun! A possible location for a social? Edit: The end of the video had me giggling 😂
Not ideal as the parking is some distance away sadly.
When it comes to food, does "less is more" still apply?
Um... Not always.
Looks grand…was there any veggie/vegan outlets?
I don't believe any were entirely veggie/vegan but some definitely had those options.

It's just an option. You can go and order individually at each unit, and discuss dietary requirements.
Barry is the hometown of Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
