“Can I get a witness?” 🙌🏽 I love them 😍 “Last Train To London” x “Evil Woman” x “Don’t Bring Me Down” x “Strange Magic” (so intense, I swear) x “Telephone Line” 🤩
LOL, Jayvee, that is not an "orchestra in the back" - those guys are part of the band, playing violin and cellos and the keyboards, they are all on stage with Jeff. Watch the live version of this song from 1977, or their Midnight Special 1973 appearance with "Roll Over Beethoven" ! They were fantastic and fun to watch - STILL are - on video. ELO rocked and rocks !
That is actually an orchestral section in the background. Although Mik Kaminski (violin), Melvyn Gale (cello) & Hugh McDowell (cello) are credited in the album as members, it is not confirmed if they appeared on this track. They were more used in live performances. They do appear in some sections of the album, it is Melvyn Gale who played the old west sounding piano on ‘Wild West Hero’, but they were otherwise not used very much in the studio after 1974 when Jeff Lynne would bring in an orchestra section (conducted by Louis Clark) to provide background orchestration.
On record, Jeff used a full orchestra since 1974's El Dorado. With few exceptions, the 3 string playing members were used on stage only from that point on. Jeff's recent spectacular live performances had 3 string players, but the sound was fortified with synth keyboards.
Is it just me or does anyone else imagine the colors of the lights on the flying saucer album cover, spinning, and flickering? That is the energy that ELO's music brings to me.
A few years ago, I actually built a replica of the ELO Space Saucer in Second Life, and it did just that. :-) I couldn't quite get a "fast spin" going with the limits of the SL animation and scripting system at the time, but I managed a pretty decent back-and-forth pulsing effect between the orange and red bands. I even managed to build a passable replication of the interior as seen in the inside of the album gatefold -- although we were using the interior as a music club, so I had to leave some stuff out so there was room for people, too. :-D Visitors could even fly their vehicles into the landing bays, like the shuttle on the cover. (And before you ask -- unfortunately, it's gone now. The owner of the sim eventually got tired of dealing with griefers and trolls showing up to harass people or trying to crash the sim during events, among other things, and when Linden Labs jacked up the monthy server fees to run a sim to something like $295/month(!), he decided to throw in the towel. I probably have the build saved somewhere, although I don't log in to SL that often anymore, but I'd need a pretty big parcel of virtual land to rezz it on...)
@@carolynjanesutton4932 Thanks. :-) I do kind of wish, sometimes, that I could bring it out of mothballs and put it back up for people to visit (though I don't think I'd try to run it as an active club; that takes a lot of time and attention)... and if I could get server space at something *reasonable*, like $25/month, I'd probably do it. But at $295/month? Not a chance. :-P
Jeff Lynne once said that they were so inspired by The Beatles and John Lennon was asked about ELO he said that “ if The Beatles ever had a child, it would be ELO”.
You realize that today they listen to One D, Shawn M, Taylor S, Katy P, Halsey..... in the 70.s we listened to this.... and Sparks, Sweet, Supertramp, Climax Blues Band etc :-)
WHOOT! My absolute favorite group of all time! So many songs to deep dive into. Thanks! Yes, each album had a theme where they'd use a word in a song to lead into another one. You have it right, listen on your own to an entire side and you'll see how they all relate to each other.
Jeff Lynne wrote nearly all of the songs by E.L.O. In 1981 I joined the Royal Marine Commandos on my 17th birthday, I served for 34 years in the Royal Marine Commandos and other more specialised groups until I was invalided out after my last posting to Afghanistan. I grew up listening to bands like E.L.O., Queen and Thin Lizzy, and yes I saw them all Live :) !!! Myself and a fellow old timer in the Royal Marine Commandos used to sing their songs when we came under fire to calm the younger lads by taking their minds off the incoming fire, yes they thought we were nutcases. After we had finished our assignment or patrol and we had returned to base, either in Iraq or Afghanistan, we would sing E.L.O.s' song "I'm Alive". I also sang it at his funeral which put as smile on his widow's face. I recommend you listen to both "I'm Alive" and "Livin' Thing", you could also try "Turn To Stone", "Don't Bring Me Down" all live. But before all of the dozens of E.L.O. songs you listen to you must watch Jeff Lynne's ELO - Mr. Blue Sky at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park. It was on the 14th of September, 2014 when my son broke me out of military hospital to go to this concert. My fellow old timer had been killed at the same time I was wounded, so my son knew seeing them in Hyde Park would give me a bit of a pick me up. He also did it again and took me to Glastonbury in 2016, which you should also watch E.L.O at Glastonbury in 2016 After being declared fit I saw reassigned to a different Regiment and returned to Afghanistan in 2015. My team were patrolling the mountain villages when we came under aggressive sustained fire. We managed to get the civilians inside and under cover while returning fire, and managed to call in for air and ground support. The village was being attacked on 2 sides so it made it easier for the 4 of us to defend using "fire and move", and the occasional grouping fire tactics. There were between 30 to 40 Taliban attacking, trying to press harder, that's when I heard a crack followed by a ringing deafness. And at that moment my career as an active duty Trooper ended, apparently an RPG round hit a wall 5 feet away from me I was thrown and through the air about 20 feet. The woman of the house dragged me into her home as I was struck by 2 rounds, and my legs and lower back were on fire. She is the bravest person I have ever known. Between her and her oldest daughter they kept me alive for 25 minutes until the area was reclaimed and safe for a helicopter to come in and retrieve me. But all I remember about that was holding her hand and refusing to let go, so she and her 2 daughters were flown out with us. There is a happy piece of news as to how I've ended up mainly wheelchair bound. The wonderful women who saved my life now lives here in the U.K. almost next door to me. If they had been left in Afghanistan the Taliban would have killed them after the village had been left by our rescue group, My Commanding Officer put a huge amount of pressure on our Ambassador and the Home Office to get them relocated to England, also my daughter and son sponsored them. Now they live in a house 5 doors away from me, and I am kept very much in check by my second "adopted" daughter and her two daughters. So for all my fellow citizens of our planet who are sharing these uncertain time's, though things seem and are almost unbearable with the terrible loss and suffering so many are going through, we as a human race will make it through the epidemic. We just can't loose our humanity. A little bit more icing on the cake of life is that I took Both my daughters to see Jeff Lynne's ELO: Wembley or Bust on the 24 June 2017. You have to check out the Jeff Lynne's ELO Turn to Stone (Live at Wembley Stadium) version. The sound quality of anything from that concert is very good, aside from that aspect, the ensemble performances just rock. You get to see how they do it, and seeing Lynne's (and Roy Wood and Bev Bevan) dream of having strings fully integrated into a rock - pop format so fully realized is inspirational. Also the crowd is loving this, the band looks like they're having a blast. O and stage show! Watch those stones fly overhead as they play. Peace.
Check out ELO's All Over the World. The version I saw was a video of Flash Mobs all over the world doing this song. This is the version to check out. Thanks Katie!

This song was taken from the "Out Of The Blue" album which was released in 1977 and by 2007 had sold more than 10 million copies.Written and produced by ELO frontman Jeff Lynne. Jeff Lynne wrote the entire album in three and a half weeks after a sudden burst of creativity while hidden away in his rented chalet in the Swiss Alps. It took a further two months to record in Munich. Side three of the original double LP consisted of the symphonic Concerto for a rainy day. In a BBC Radio interview, Lynne talked about writing "Mr. Blue Sky" after locking himself away in a Swiss chalet and attempting to write ELO's follow-up to :A New World Record. It was dark and misty for 2 weeks, and I didn't come up with a thing. Suddenly the sun shone and it was, 'Wow, look at those beautiful Alps.' I wrote Mr. Blue Sky and 13 other songs in the next 2 weeks

Thank you for reaction! I saw elo in the first row back in 2016 with Bruce Willis. It made my night even more special. We were so emotional we had our arms around eachother the whole night we couldn’t believe we getting to see them front row 😭

ELO is one of my very favorite bands! I was only about 12 when this song came out, but I happily remember dancing to their incredible music as I got ready for school in the morning! An amazing way to start the day, whether it’s 1977 or 2020! Please react to “Last Train to London,”.by ELO. I think you’ll really enjoy it, too!!
I was waiting for the fast talking part and you paused it immediately before. I was waiting for your reaction and you didn't disappoint!! Love it. As Phil said he is a musical genuis!
Interesting that you mentioned the thought of the song leading into another song. It does seem that way. That scenario is most depicted in the Beatles SGT Pepper album and most especially on side 2 of their last album, Abbey Road.
ELO are just incredible. Off the planet good. Glad you enjoy them Jovaughn.

😃😃I'm hear listening to it and turning it up !!
ELO are incredible your reactions speak a thousand words Jay !!
JayVee TV 📺, I saw them in concert 2 yrs ago, absolute magic, sound and light show with the spaceship were out of this world 🌎 ✨ . They are still touring, if you lived nearby I'd treat you Jovaughn, it would be a pleasure to give back what you give to us, thanks 😊
Now you're hooked! 😉 I was blessed to see them last summer. ❤️
Remember they are The Electric Light Orchestra. They have the orchestra that plays with the band on stage!
One of my absolute favorites!!! You really have to check out their live version from their Wembley Stadium concert. Fantastic!
Can you even imagine the mind that brings all the sounds together and makes music
So many awesome songs by ELO 💗. You bought to hit 82k subs.....great job your doing on here....loving it down here in Georgia 🙌💗
You are becoming SO eclectic in your musical taste and knowledge! You have learned so much in the time I've been watching.
This song just puts me in a great mood! 😊
I love the fact that I got introduced to these guys at a young age.
I had them loaded up to my MP3 to listen to while I cycled on the back roads... Loved 'I'm Alive',,, Thanks Jay for giving them the time... No other band like them..! I know the guy singing was feeling bad...but I felt good hearing it!
Love the 70's Classic Rock!!! Thanks Javaughn!
Yes indeed, The Electric Light ORCHESTRA. Nobody like them.
Thank you for reaction! I saw elo in the first row back in 2016 with Bruce Willis. It made my night even more special. We were so emotional we had our arms around eachother the whole night we couldn’t believe we getting to see them front row 😭
This has so much energy! I'm still tapping my foot!
Have you come across a bad ELO song yet mate? Cmon man, they are the thing, you know the the thing. Even Joe Biden knows them. edit: another great track man👏👏
Trump said he liked them, but when he was told E.L.O.did not stand for ",Election Overthrow,"he got mad and walked away.
@@timlevis3630 LOL
Horse Footrot, there's no such thing as a bad ELO song.
There is no such thing as "a bad E.L.O song !"
This was one of the first albums I ever bought! So many great songs! You should try Shine A Little Love. I haven't seen anyone react to that one.
Jay...you are THE BEST! It’s so fun to watch your reactions to the music I grooved to in the 70s! I wish I could e-mail or message you just to keep encouraging you. I’m not a stalker, I’m just a retired First-grade teacher and probably your biggest fan! LOL 😊🌸✌️PEACE
Try to find some of their live performances. Jeff can still sing really good without autotune.lol
Alot of their albums were themed albums and the songs were stories and connected.
My favourite ELO song …. Love them so much , what a great band ❤
The entire Out Of The Blue album is just perfection. All of the tracks are worth reacting to :-).
And the hits keep coming wow is all I can say
Nice Jay very nice 😀😀💖💙💖
"Calling America" is an underrated song, i used to think he said "Calling the Mary girls"
You are ON POINT. WELL DONE
Jay back then artist and bands wrote songs for the whole album so that one song flowed or communicate a theme for the album
Thanks bro ! Chicago Love!
Heck yeah. Another great song. Enjoy. Thanks.
Jay, I've been enjoying your reactions to ELO so much that I've bought a few of their CDs. I'd forgotten how good they were! Thank you.
Blast from the past! Great reaction as always!🎸🤘👊
Have this album. At the end of the song, you can hear him go back onto the spaceship and leave the planet.
My favorite by ELO is "Last Train London", the grooviest song by them. Legendary.
Looked confused for a sec there lol
The live version from the Wembley concert will blow you away. Should be a rule that you can only watch their live performances ;-0
I love this song, Turn to Stone.. Your face says it all. Nice video my friend !!!!
I was waiting for the fast talking part and you paused it immediately before. I was waiting for your reaction and you didn't disappoint!! Love it. As Phil said he is a musical genuis!
The "blue" theme really does come up a lot in their songs. "Midnight Blue" is another good one.
Saw ELO in DC and they opened with this song.
I love this band sooo much❣️❣️❣️
It is one of my all-time fav songs. When Jeff Lynne was on his A-game for a few years in the '70s, he had no-one ahead if him. He was number one.
It is heartening to see your intelligence, inclusiveness, and musical sensitivity. Listen to more ELO.
My favorite ELO song Thank you for doing it. Now if we could hear "Don't Bring Me Down" and "hold On Tight, " it would be wonderful.
Memories!!! This was the VERY FIRST 45rpm single I ever bought with my allowance as a teenager. I played it so much, I wore out the grooves!!
Interesting that you mentioned the thought of the song leading into another song. It does seem that way. That scenario is most depicted in the Beatles SGT Pepper album and most especially on side 2 of their last album, Abbey Road.
One of my favorite ELO songs!
ELO's music makes my heart sing
Listen to ELO- "Eldorado Overture/Can't Get it Out of My Head" & "Fire on High" - 2 great songs!!
Yeesss
@@dipsydoodle7988 And Yes too!..lol
