Thats really how it goes from a recruiter's point of view? My recruiter told me they liked choosing 11 series guys. "The ones you could pretty much get to do anything for a beer..." 🤣🤣 that was a decade ago though haha

know how to do long hand division, multiplication, addition, subtraction. know how to solve for X. know how to narrow down answers on a test. Have an OKAY vocabulary. you will do fine.

It’s been awhile; have they massively changed the ASVAB? I remember having to pick which picture of broken Christmas bulbs was probably the one that could form the cracked one if put back together, and not much else.

I scored a 25 on the practice test... After 2 months I got a 70. Grammar hero is honestly the best tutor on RUclips.

My son just joined the marines. He has two weeks left in boot camp. He first scored super low. I bought him the asvab book and we studied for hours. He took the test again and passed with a high score. They made him retake it three times just to make sure he didn’t cheat cause of how high he scored. He passed all the three with a high score. Proud mom.

I scored a 92 and I did not expect that at all. Finally got the job I wanted. Nuclear propulsion! I never tried in highschool and somehow I did well!

Same, I was a bit of a slacker but always tested well. Wanted intel, and got a 94.
This video is 100% correct, I studied before meeting up with my recruiter and once I took the actual test I only scored a 54, but my ST score was pretty high which is what I needed to get the job I wanted!

I've been out of school for 5 years and haven't exactly kept up on my studies, but I managed to score a 91 on the practice test. Debt is still going to hold me back from the MOS I wanted due to clearance issues, but I'll take what I can get for now. Your videos have been a big help in this process, thanks for taking to time to make them.

What is this clearance issues you mentioned? Do you have to be debt free to get the job you want?
@@nutellaoo3034 You don't have to be debt free, but you have to have plans in place to pay off that debt and bad credit history will make it harder to get certain security clearances. I'm trying to go 15T and then become a pilot, but it requires a security clearance that I might not be able to get.
@@bigbreno7 I have debt but never missed payments. Still got 15T. I think it depends on how you manage it and pay your bills timely

I got a 51 on the practice asvab with my recruiter in the Navy office, and I haven’t been to school in 12 years now with a GED. I honestly thought i wasn’t even going to pass. That dude came out with the biggest smile and was like
“So what job do you want?” 😂😂

I just took mine and got a 91! I was out of school for close to 10 years and the biggest advice I can give to you is to practice the Quizlet questions online!! You will not be disappointed

Whatever the meps liaison has to offer definitely make sure it’s something you want to do. Don’t settle for less remember this a job for the next four years better be happy with what you pick or hate your life doing something you don’t.

Back in 2003 I took two practice tests and scored a 73, and a 78. However my actual ASVAB score was a 43. ADD or ADHD (I forget which one I have) is a "itch". Still had ten great years in the Army! Miss it every day! #teamSWARTZ

@@brownie2767 thats right but to a certaint extent i think its okay to have adhd or add. my recruiter knows i have add but i think theyre more focused on you not being on medication for at least a year and if its been a long time since youve been medicated you should be alright
Scored a 27 on the practice, then scored a 74 on the real test with minimal studying, it was weird and my Marine recruiter was incredibly surprised lol

Yeah I scored like a 30 on the practice and than I got a 85 on the real one , going in for advanced electronics here in June

I took the practice test and got a 67% the first time (never studied) after I’ve been studying with the book (2022-23 volume) so I can feel 100% confident when I take the actual ASVAB I want to get an 80% or higher after watching this video I feel I can definitely aim higher 🙌🏾. #TeamSWARTZ

I got a 40 on the practice test, I never did study before seeing my National Guard recruiter, I got honest with him and told that I failed the asvab 5 times prior to seeing him, as of now I am waiting for the MEP to MEP transfer. I haven’t been studying because I’m waiting for my paperwork to be approved, but after watching this video, yeah, I really need to apply myself to studying, best of luck…

I lost my house and schooling for around 7 years and ended up getting my HSE (High School Equivalency) when coming across multiple choice questions, it was faster to pick out what obviously ISNT the answer, to narrow it down quicker.
Studying other languages before hand helped me with my Grammer/writing big time, even with a big struggle in algebra I scored a around 50.

My aqft was a 93 at meps. I think most people won’t have a problem if they can do long division, multi digit multiplication, add, subtract, and have a decent vocabulary. Imo

You can't get a 93, the highest is 91 in all branches. I am enlisting in the Army and working with my recruiter everyday.

Hello there. I'm a person who is trying to join the us army. This Tuesday i wen to my recruiter, and I did my practice test. I got a 18% and I didn't study. I did good on the math for the most part. The thing that i suffered the most thought was my English. You see English is my third language, and i have real difficulty with some complicated words. On Wednesday I have my ASVAB, and I'm studying like crazy. I really hope to past the test, because I want to join the army. To experience, and learn what real discipline means. I really lack discipline, but I don't lack on motivation. There is no quiting the military so I know that I need to stay motivated and at the top of my game to succeed and move forward with my life. Gaine experience and benefits in the meantime as well. I really hope that everyone else who wants to join, studies and does after the practice test.

oh my GOD!!! I went to MEPS like a week or so ago, thought I was going to die, I was the only girl there for one-and I was so nervous about passing medical , but hey it all works out! honestly minus the good cop bad cop routine they play it is rather boring, and a lot of waiting around!!!

I took the ASVAB in 89 with my best buddy. we answered all questions with the worst possible answers.The Marine recruiter had no interesst, the NAVY man shooed us off. Airforce was not interessted. ARMY said : " will you jump out of a plane over enemy territory under fire?" Born for it Sarn!

Took the ASVAB back in the 80's. The recruiting Sergeant told me I could go into any MOS I wanted to. It really wasn't that difficult. It seemed to be mostly general knowledge stuff. Don't know if it's changed significantly since then....

Math is definitely different today and makes nearly no sense at all
This is number one to do on my list. Ive struggled thinking about military due to my asthma, colorblindness, and my ADHD. Ill be sure to study hard for this before i start working on my medical issues

I got scored a 41 on the practice test but before that I failed it 3 times and I took the actual test with JROTC instructor. My recruiter said if I am eligible to take the ASVAB at maps then i have to wait 6months. I told them I have ADHD and a Learning Disability, and that I was in a IEP class in high school.

You don't need to tell the recruiter every single detail about your life and mental state some stuff is best kept to a minimal.
I got a 64 after getting a 45 from my practice. Got a book from the library. It seemed simple enough for tools and language for me. But the math... The complex math and science.. I don't think any average Joe knows what is 33% of 72.8 off the bat.. but luckily the book refreshed some locked away high school teachings. Nice video.

When I first met my recruiter I had no idea they were going to give me a test😂 after taking it I didn’t realize how long it was since I’ve done basic math. I walked out saying I hope I didn’t embarrass myself but they said having a 69 score was good. I’ve been studying since because I want to do better and having my bachelors I’ll get to go in as E4 and I want more options for what mos I’ll pick.
That score just means your good at math and English. Worry more about your line scores. You’ll understand better when you watch this:

I never studied for the ASVAB, and basically went in blind back in 2009. I scored 96 on the test, and I was hoping to get into a tank. Ultimately though I was denied a USAREC waiver, and never made it into any branch, though my Army recruiter basically bent over backwards trying to get me enlisted. It was my non-felonious "bad" decisions in the past that kept me out of the military.

You are not lossing anything it sucks theres alot of low moral, dumb ass toxic leaders alot of people are quitting i went to basic with 147 people and graduated with 92 is not the training is the toxic envioroment it sucks.

Nah study it helps a lot, getting a useful job, people aren’t always smart put we’re able to get smarter. I wouldn’t want a job that doesn’t help me in the civilian world study before and study after, keep learning. A lot of us get out the military without any skills just to go back to the jobs we had as teens. I’m a 68W and got an EMT license which I can use in the civilian world.
The video doesn’t say Don’t Study at all. It gives a very specific and unique perspective to not study prior to meeting your Recruiter but I def state to study thereafter…

I remember taking the ASVAB test in 10th grade. It was unannounced. The intercom just said that all tenth graders come to the auditorium, and before I knew it, we were all sitting in a silent auditorium taking this test that we were never told about (or maybe we were. I wasn't paying much attention). Gotta say it was boring AF, and I was just glad it was over. Results came eventually, but I never bothered to look because I had no interest in the military. One thinf I remember was that there was a female drill sergeant there and was kinda acting in character the whole time.

Im so old I remember taking it when it was still a written test. I liked it because I got to go through and do what I knew for sure and then go back and attempt what I didnt know.

yea when i took my fist practice test i got a 17 then a week later i got a 47 on the practice test then i took the picat and got a 84 with a 121 gt and then confirmed that score at meps now i ship on the 20

Everything this guy said is true, but there are some things you should improve before going to the recruiter.
Specifically simple mental calculations. Here's some things you should be capable of doing before taking the adsvab test.

If you're not capable of doing these middle school level calculations in your head, then spend every day improving your basic math skills before taking any tests.

If I’m not mistaken I believe the Air Force requires a minimum score of 70 in order to join that branch. So you’d be 14 points short in order to join. But if you’re open to joining any other branches (besides the coast guard because they require a 70 as well.) You would be able to join the navy, marines and army with a score like that! Either way best of luck. I’m going to meps next week to take mine. Going into the Army MOS 31 Bravo 🙌🏻💪🏻😎🇺🇸

I'm try to keep this short I wanna be a marine I'm willing to put the time and effort into it and I'm fully confident that I can pass the physical exam but not too sure about the written test I struggled alot in school I'm terrible at math and don't really know the basics multiplication chart just the ez ones like 5×5 stuff my reading is ok I'm not too worried about that science I'm dog shit at I'll admit I never fully applied myself in school until my last year when I had to drop out bc of the obvious I went from straight Ds and Fs to barley making 70s but would always at least get a 60 I'm not too sure where to start or how to educate myself on this my little brother is also joining and told me the test was hard and it did discouraged me but won't let it stop me I would really appreciate tips on how to improve please and thank you
Unfortunately the ASVAB Test is a requirement. 31% plus is the minimum AFQT Score and have qualifying line scores to qualify for MOS’s (Jobs).

I got a 30 today after 15 years of not doing a test. FYI I’m already 30 years old already. I dropped out of school and got my ged after.
I spent 5 days learning math, arithmetic and science only to find out most of the answers were easy af.
When I took the pre test at the recruiting office I got a really bad score but I haven’t had to use my math and science in the 4 years I’ve been out of high school school. Took the ASVAB yesterday only to find out I kinda over studied cause half the shit I learned wasn’t even on the test.
Waiting on my results because apparently there was another guy who was scheduled to take the asvab with the exact same first and last name as me and they had to basically put me back in the system which took a minute and so my results are delayed.
I’m just glad I don’t have to study for that anymore cause I’ve literally been having dreams about solving arithmetic and math problems for the past 3 nights

Great video, very helpful! I went to meet my recruiter for the first time last week and got a surprise practice test offered. I took it and felt like I messed up badly, but had scored 71. Most of my mistakes were with the Math (Algebra) questions. I def think I should study hard for this, since I haven't used Math since high school (a long time ago) and for my preferred jobs I need a 101 ST score 😝 Thanks again!

Back in my day (Pre Clinton era) they used a point system instead of a percentage system. Max GT score was 130 (General Test score). I scored 127, and was chased around by the Navy for the Nuke program. (6 months of no daylight- no thanks) Became a 12B in the Army

I scored a 27 on the practice and then took the asvab at meps and got a 61. It above the 31 percentile so it is a passing score
Back in 1992 I responded to an ad in the paper for “apprentice to a plumber, no experience needed.”That was the bait, it was a recruiter on the other line. The recruiter had me take the practice test, did ok. Took the ASVAB a couple days later, scored a 53.

I scored a 51 some years ago but now I’m going to retake it again to get my GT Score up. I’d said if you think you can do better and want to do better, do it now vs later. you want a GT score minimum 110 for the long haul in the service.
I took my first practice test and got 66 and I didn’t know how the score bc I thought I failed but found out that was a decent score but that math seems so foreign to me because I haven’t done algebra in about 4 years

The less questions there are, the more weight they carry so I MIGHT be able to barely make a 31 for the army since I’m pretty good at word knowledge and comprehension of text. Math isn’t really my thing but I know the basics.

Didn't study before either. First time I took the asvab in junior year I was high and scored a 77, the second time I took it in senior year I was clear headed and got a 94. Still proud of the score even though I didn't end up going into the military. It's framed and everything.

@@seth9466 How did you get out of it? I thought they have you sign a contract and if you pass the test and health exam you're officially in? My son who is a junior in HS is going through the process now.
They just let us take the test if we wanted to see the score. It wasn't a serious commitment or anything. I still get calls from recruiter trying to see if I'd be interested but I've always turned them down. ( may have had something to do with it being a military town with a base right next to it.)

I never got a practice test, the only thing I studied was the tools and automobile sections bcz I had no experience with those areas in my life… I ended up scoring a 98 and am about to go in as a heli pilot for the Army

Holy shoot, are you going to ocs or maybe wocs? How's the whole process going so far? I want to fly but I never wanted to try becoming any type of officer because I'm so young and they'd never take me lol so im building myself some experience in aviation maintenance to strengthen my application to become a flight warrant officer. But it seems you getting to my dream straight off the bat! I'd love to hear how its going!
@@celsopunzalan4929 well I’m leaving in a few days to go to basic training, after that I do WOCS, Warrant Officer Basic, SERE, and then I start basic flight. Around a 5-6 month process. I didn’t need any prior college degrees since I entered through some program they had, I believe it’s called WOFT… from my understanding anyone can apply to it, just be in good health, don’t be color blind, get a high GT score on the ASVAB and a high score on the SIFT test. Also some good letters of recommendation are needed
@@celsopunzalan4929 also got to add that I’m only 18, but if you are looking into the same route I went, reach out to the recruiter when you’re 17… the whole process of testing, physicals, and board selection took about a year
Not exactly the ASVAB, but I definitely remember taking something similar to it before I got my current conductor position with the railroad company I work. It had a little bit of basic math, but mainly tested heavily on the mechanical and reading comprehension aspects of things such as "Which gear will turn faster in such and such rotation?" or "What is the main idea of this passage on quicksand?"

Got a 26 on the picat then a 35 on the ASVAB at MEPS. I ship out to Army basic training in a few weeks as an 88M.

Didn't even know about asvab - got 86 on practice test, studied the Kaplan book for a bit and got 99 on actual test, then 127 on DLAB and now waiting for BMT in AF.

Ok so good take away I didn’t study before I spoke with my recruiter, and I got a 36% on my practice . He did tell me to review so I’ve been focusing on the arithmetic reasoning and mathematical skills . Taking the ones you recommended where it shows you how to get to the answer . Also I got finger prints done and signed the dotted line have to follow up with docs (cancer survivor) to make sure I’m good . Can’t wait to serve 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼

On both test i took. I studied like a madman. And still, didnt get a 104 on my mm section. Everything else improved. Im omw to get my final test done. I have lost hope in this honestly.
