      I run 5 miles casually on active rest days.
      Squat 500+
      Bench 325+
      Deadlift 595
      And train in simple calisthetics.
      Is this enough for basic training?
      I would sometimes hit two miles with a 45 lbs sand bag on my upper back.

    Tip for ruck marches: When you get everything issued to you... Grab your dress socks, flip em inside out, put them on then put your boot socks on. The socks will rub together instead of the sock and your skin, saving you from blisters. The reason for flipping them inside out is to keep your nasty untrimmed toenails from ripping out from gripping the dress sock. Trim your nails, follow this tip, and ruck on.

      @@TEAMSWARTZ Hey SFC Swartz! Instead of the canned response (I can recognize it after a few replies and I get it being a RUclipsr myself).... what rucking tip do YOU have that would save some head.... or... foot aches for those that don't know?

    • @TEAMSWARTZ
      @TEAMSWARTZ  Год назад +15

      @@AstroEscape Your tip is an old trick they taught back in the day but like any tip, test different methods and find what works best for you. For me, ruck consistently once per week and your feet at first will blister. Pop/Don’t pop is up to you but eventually they become callouses. Teaming in boots before a Ruck is a must and change out socks when too sweaty. Dry socks equal to no blisters. Moisture causes friction, which causes blisters. Which in my case your tip that was suggested by my DS back in 2001 caused my feet to sweat more, bunch up and cause more blisters and issues with my feet. They say that wool socks help the best to keep your feet dry but I find them make my feet sweat and allow my feet to move too much inside the boot. So I personally prefer cotton socks. Biggest tip is to lather up the hot spot between your thighs with body glide. Life saver from chaffing!
      Now for a smaller channel, taking the time to type up a more authentic response is easier. As you grow, you receive more and more comments… it’s challenging at best to keep up. Even with canned responses, I spend an average of 30-60min per day responding to every initial comment and that’s including canned responses. Imagine if I didn’t? Lol.
      At some point I won’t be able to keep up. So from a viewers perspective. Which is better?
      1: No Like and No Canned/genuine comment
      2: Like but no comment
      3: Like and canned response

    • @AstroEscape
      @AstroEscape Год назад +4

      @@TEAMSWARTZ I agree with you SFC, that is an old trick. I learned that in '05. But, body dependent, it does work. I used it in the past with no issue, while one of the guys I served with wore cotton socks in his boot with no issues on a 12-miler. It IS personal, and I get that.
      I also hiked 350 miles on a long distance hiking trail in two months in the Eastern US and for the feet, the best at least for someone like me is a synthetic liner (dress sock in old advice, again with the stitches away from the toenails) and Wool on the outside (to pull the moisture away). To be fair, for training only, using trail runners would be the best to get the muscles of the rest of the body doing what they need to do and protect the feet. Trail runners also let the feet breathe if they get wet, and they dry out fast. The human body is a monster, train it right in shoes and in boots, it can do what it has to. I say 3/4 marches should be in trail runners just for the exercise, one in the boots to make sure the job can be done. Either way, dual socking is designed to let the socks rub together instead of letting the first few layers of skin in the foot do that. Then again, the Military as a whole could learn a thing or two from the long distance hiker community... but I digress...
      Your Body Glide tip has me chuckling, because that's a long distance hiking product. It IS a chafe saver and I would LOVE if AAFES just stocks it, even for recruits.
      As for the canned response bit, I'm getting there with the not keeping up, people emailing me left and right and commenting with questions pertaining to what I am doing (check it out if you want). There are places for a canned response, but we can tell.
      Choose the ones you want to respond to with something lengthy. Sometimes a simple thank you works. Hearts always work. Otherwise, bring on a SGT or SSG doing what you do (they don't have to be actively serving, just willing to help) that can help give thought out responses, you can give them certain levels of access. But bring them into the show so we can see them.
      I am an IT nerd by trade in the civ world, I can talk you through keeping you stuff secure while letting a few others in to help out. If you want advice, Let me know and I'll reach out to you on Instagram. I am auditing my own channel to make sure it is secure and will freely give advice to anyone who wore a uniform and raised their right hand in defense of the United States of America. Just know that while I went in as 12B, I am working on going back as 25 series :) NOTE: I will not ask for credentials, I will give nerdy advice and that's all. If I ask for credentials I invite you to Pittsburgh to make me push until you are tired.

    It doesn't last forever. As easy as it might be to quit, just remember that plenty of people before you came out of BCT as Soldiers, probably from circumstances similar to your own. When you're pushing the ground and doubt begins to creep into your mind, push it away. In order to win, you have believe that you can win.

      @@TEAMSWARTZ Thank you as well for your service and your support, Drill Sergeant. I'm about to hit my one year in the Army. It's been full of ups and downs with many things to learn about myself and what I do and I'm about to step it up a notch. I'm in the process of putting together my packet to go to OCS.
      Also, I have some questions. As an enlisted Soldier transitioning to being an officer (because I will get there no matter what it takes), what should I be anticipating in terms of what Soldiers, both enlisted and officers, want from me? One of the NCO's from my platoon said that officers with any sort of prior enlisted experience have greater expecations placed upon them, regardless of the amount of time spent as an enlisted Soldier. Do you agree with this?
      Again, thank you for the reply and I wish you the best with your trainees!

    • @TEAMSWARTZ
      @TEAMSWARTZ  3 года назад +5

      @@Orbility Yes and no but I’d add to that that enlisted Soldiers will respect you more in your position as an officer having your enlisted experience first. Even more so if you made it to become an NCO first and then commissioning. It adds a level of experience providing you an insight in the mind of an enlisted soldier providing you a better understanding with personal empathy. If that makes sense. You’ll allow NCO’s to do their job and not overstep your boundaries. Hope this helps!

    Two more ways to enlist as an E-3 Private First Class (PFC) are if you went into the BSA (Boy Scouts of America) Program and you made Eagle Scout, the highest rank, or if you did 3 to 4 years of JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) before enlisting

    Also the boxing guide is now a paid app for apple. Still gonna get it because I can’t get my Fitbit to do 30-60s timers right.
    I ran (walked when I could not breath) my first mile in 3-4 years. Definitely going to do the running guide, I live right by a park that is just over half a mile lap so it’s a great opportunity. Just gotta find some hills to run.
