- U.S. Army Basic Combat Training | U.S. Army Boot Camp
United States Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) is the recruit training program of the United States Army, for service in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. Basic Training is designed to be highly intense and challenging. The challenge comes as much from the difficulty of physical training as it does from the psychological adjustment to an unfamiliar way of life.
Drill sergeants are the instructors responsible for most of the recruit training that takes place during Basic Combat Training. They accompany recruits throughout the entire training process, instructing and correcting actions in everything from firing weapons to the correct way to address a superior, and are also largely responsible for the safety of recruits.

My Dad was a Drill Sergeant. He taught me so many things. Discipline, Courtesy. How to be observant. Professionalism. How to walk and speak with confidence. Appearance- how to spit shine my boots which I still do today. The importance of cleaning my room and making my bed. The understanding that perfection IS possible. Love you Dad- see you on the other side

Great advices: 1.) avoid creating unwanted attention. 2.) observe everything around. 3.) be a team player. 4.) Don't quit / Never give up.
Or join an army in a country without a shout-sergeant.
I have seen basic training on TV before, it shows us the life and how the basic training in the boot camp is like, and it is like hell for 10 weeks. Later on they will get better in the military life.

Believe it or not Drill Sergeants do laugh. In 72 I was 17 when I enlisted. While still at Reception we were at rest waiting outside to get IDs. A Drill Sergeant came walking by and yelled out who here is 17. Like a dumb ass I raised my hand. He came up to me and yelled WHY ARE YOU NOT HOME WITH YOUR MOMMA. I YELLED RIGHT BACK AT HIM AND SAID I HAVE BEEN WONDERING THE SAME GOD DAMNED THING MYSELF DRILL SERGEANT. He looked at me laughing 😂 and just walked away. I miss those Drill sergeants they taught me a lot about life Thanks for your service.
I read a similar comment on another video for Marines. This guy from Minnesota told his DI he didn't know how to swim, and the DI asked him "You come from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and you don't know how to swim?!?" Guy replied back, "Sir, most of the time they were frozen, Sir!". He said the DI had to turn around so the recruits wouldn't see him laughing.
I’m hoping to enlist when I’m 17 as well.

I leave for basic training for the Army NG in fort Jackson SC in 2 weeks and I’m honestly beyond excited as this is something I’ve wanted to do as a kid. I feel like I’m making my father proud every day as he watches over me and I hope he sees that.
Aye, keep your head down, dont get your battle buddies in trouble cuz of you, dont quit. You got this
Same see you at ft Jackson bro
Fort Jackson 2-39 C Co was better than 2-39 A-Co. Best decision ever to join the army. AIT was also a breeze and now I’m at my first duty station. Just keep your head down and try not to draw much attention to yourself and remember to be in the right uniform at the right place and right time. Good luck kiddo.
Wow man that’s touching. Good luck in life
Good luck brother. Similar situation here. My mom died of cancer back in March. I was in the Army National Guard before but I didn't get to ship to basic due to medical issue that happened right before shipping, but I went to a lot of the RSP drills. I drilled with the unit in this video 53rd IBCT, great unit. I got discharged from the National Guard after 2 1/2 years of fighting tooth and nail to go to basic. Now I'm re-enlisting as active duty Marines
Whenever I’m nervous I smile, I pray to god that whenever/if I go to basic, I don’t smile. Cause nothing is funny and I don’t think anything is funny. It’s just that smiling keeps me calm when I’m nervous. Gonna try my best not to smile tho
You'll be alright. I smile a whole lot too. Just don't overthink it, do what the drills say and you'll be just fine 🤙🏽
Haha same
Easier said than done but don't get overwhelmed if you smile and you have 3 DS screaming at you. All you have to remember is every minute and step you take is a minute and step closer to graduating and getting the hell out of basic. It won't last forever but it'll feel like it does.
Understandable
Don’t worry about it. You’ll get smoked no matter what. Just know that every time they’re smoking you, you’re getting stronger and becoming a better soldier
My recruiter told me he had that same problem. He said the drill sergeants nicknames him “smilie” and smoked him every time he smiled but he couldn’t help it. By the end of basic training he had the best PT score out anyone in his company
That’s the mindset you gotta have. A mind set of not quitting, of knowing NBC everything you do is making to better, and knowing that one day this will end and you just got to get to that point
Basic Training Ft Campbell Ky Dec70-Feb 71. This is the first video that I have viewed on youtube that makes me proud to see the US Army is maintaining a tough physical program for the young recruits.

The Army SAYS they don’t do the shark attack anymore, but we all know they still do. If there’s no cameras or officers around on day 0, they still do it. Speaking from experience as someone who enlisted just last year
I just came from benning, no shark attack right off the bus, but we sure did have one... And since they thought our cycle is easier cuz of covid, we were in white phase til osut graduation lol. I graduated bct from Sill last year. They had their own version of the shark attack and first 100. They called it the hellcat 100. The drills didn’t really scream at us, just made us run 3 laps carrying gear to the drill pad and we had to take it back and put it exactly where we got it.

Surprising how I can look back fondly on basic training at Ft. Polk in 72. All the while remembering that parts of it was very difficult. That many would leave from there and head to Vietnam.
I went in in "73" FLW.. 17 weeks of BT and four of us went overseas, two Korea and two Germany.
We were so happy that Vietnam was off the list..
I just left Polk earlier this month. It's still a dump as is Leesville.
I didn't do the Nam route but still had to do the 16 Weeks at Tigerland. That is one place in The United States I won't be visiting anytime soon. A lifetime of cursing out Fort Polk and Louisiana.

Politics has influenced the military. There are a series of quotas and "indications" that aim to reduce the testosterone level of the combat fronts! It's unnatural, in my view... there's no way this can end well! 👀

I went to Fort Benning, Georgia in January 1966 for basic training. Company B, 10th Bn., 2Trng. Brigade. From some of the comments that I have read, many sound like a bunch of sissies, cowards and among other things that I would like to say about your. Basic training was longer and like night and day compare to now. Over the years I have returned to see what the training is like for the new recruits and I don't feel that they in the long run are being prepared properly for survival in a war situation. I survived my tours in Vietnam and my military career because of the basic training and other advance training. So many don't realize how fortunate they are to be living in the United State of America.
That guy who was smiling 🙂 while the Drill Sargents was yelling at , he better be lucky those cameras 🎥 was rolling.
Basic training has really changed. My basic was at ft. Bragg afterwards was jump school than Vietnam

When I went through basic, when it was time to eat, everyone had the exact same thing. We didn't get to choose shit. It's crazy how easy basic has got over the past 10-15 years. I went through in 2007.
The military probably wouldn't want me. I'm extremely picky.
In 2015 we got a choice between 2 things. A chicken leg or a pork chop. We ate the dfac twice when I was in basic. Some of the companies ate there everyday. We got 10 minutes.
When I did BCT in 1981, we didn't even know what we were getting. NO CHOICES! Slap it on the tray and be thankful you were eating!

You will surely make it, I’m with you in prayers success will always be your potion throughout your training stay safe and stay blessed
You're a female, you'll make it......they lower the standards way down for you, don't worry
BCT is so easy. if you're watching this because you are considering going have no worry as it will be the easiest thing you'll do. it might not look like it here but they will train you to the point where anything that looks hard at first will eventually be very simple.
They had to lower the standards for women......so now most men can make it through basic only having to giving about 40% effort....
I was in the military 30+ years ago and am out of touch. I am curious about this video. Is this regular Army boot camp or follow on training for infantry soldiers after boot camp?
I smiled at a drill Sgt and he asked me why I was smiling. I said because I have a father just like you at home who was a retired drill Sgt.
How was army basic for you
Different times. I think the whole time i was there, I called home 3 or 4 times. The food was amazing.
My late husband served in the U S Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam era (cell site in South Korea). He did his basic training at Fort Benning (around 1968 I think). He told me that you did not call the drill sergeants “sir”; apparently “sir” is only for commissioned officers. “DON’T YOU CALL ME SIR! I WORK FOR MY LIVING!!” is what he said a “sir” would get you. The proper term was apparently “yes, Drill Sergeant” or “no, Drill Sergeant”. Did anyone else here experience this?
OH YES !!!---
Literally everybody who has every been to us army basic training has experienced this
Yeah anyone who was ever in the army knows this. The marine corps/navy use sir, yes, sir. The army you’ll always refer to them as drill sergeant. Sir is only for commissioned officers
Learned that at the reception station before I even got to BCT!
Air Force you call all NCOs Sir in Basic and Tech School
I went to Ft Jackson July 1990. I ended up doing 22 years between Regular Army and Army National Guard I retired as an E-7 it was the best decision I made
Basic and AIT at FT Polk Aug to Oct 75
At 0:52 I heard a drill sargent say in the background “we got a crier!” and omg I just felt so much pity for whoever was crying 😭I bet that they got their ass chewed alive, tbh as someone planning to join the National Guard crying in front of a DS is my absolute worst nightmare
Don’t be afraid. This video is Benning and that’s home of infantry. When you arrive to your bct you’re gonna learn that the worst part is reception. Reception for me in Sill had me second guessing, but when I made it to my battery it was a breeze. Just listen and execute.
Make sure you learn The Army Song and Soldiers Creed, you’re still gonna get smoked because other people won’t know it, but that’s basic for you. Also, being physically fit will help you a lot. It’s true that you’ll come out stronger either way, but it helps out a lot. Also, for the love of god, do not be afraid of going to sick call. Seriously. If you are injured just go. I got a grade 4 stress fracture at the start of basic and I still graduated on time. Not going will make your injuries worse and you’ll end up being a recycle or you make it to AIT and won’t be able to do anything.
My AIT was 6 months long and we had people who couldn’t do PT almost the entirety of that because they didn’t go to sick call in bct and were so messed up.
The DFAC at Benning had amazing food actually. But we had nowhere near 15 minutes to eat. These 'shark attacks' were a 'little mild' compared to what we experienced. But the memories! Why do I miss this? I'll never know. A3-47 'Blackjack', March 2011.

I feel sorry to this when the the press/media show up and the troops have to endure all the CREATED DRAMA for no good reason.
I remember getting ready to go down the rappel tower, the DS was securing the rope with the D-Ring and he looks over to the other DS working on my Battle Buddy and said that he forgot how to do it on my D-Ring (mine was larger than most) the other DS took a look and said that he'll do it one way on mine and one way on the other guy and see which one works. Needless to say that did NOT help my fear of heights.

@@Adam-om9hu I agree, I watched a video where a DS explained why they got rid of it and it makes sense. All they would do is scream at you and embarrass you while holding up your bag for an hour or two and then have to prove to the recruits why they should trust and follow all the DS. Kind of contradictory to what the goal is. Establishing a new way of doing things that involve team work and real training while still keeping the same amount of intensity is more effective, and I think the newer way is more effective too rather than just standing there with someone screaming horrible things at your face for hours.

Of course, back in the 80s they did more than just yell - a lot of foul language was used.

I was 17 and scared shitless with all those drill sergeants screaming in my face. We were supposed to execute a left face. I started right then went left.
