he brought sara to the isalnd, if she was murdered it would be MORE his fault than when shado was murdered, he felt he had the responsibility to get sara back home.
He technically didn't choose Sara or Shado. Ivo told him if Oliver didn't choose he would kill them both. When Ivo said time's up and pointed the gun Oliver instinctively jumped in front of it. If Ivo had pointed the gun at Shado Sara would be dead.
06bigd2000 All things considered jumping in front of whomever the gun was currently pointed at and hoping that something would happen to save the other person before the gun shifted targets was the best choice Oliver could have made once he let himself get disarmed and taken prisoner. A much worse choice was stopping to talk with Ivo later on the Amazo when he could have killed him immediately before Ivo turned Slade against him which could have saved all the innocent lives Slade killed. Lesson learned: never let yourself be disarmed by psychopaths and never waste time trying have a debate with psychopaths when you have an opportunity to kill them.
I see this as in some ways a metaphor describing how people who voted for Democrats in the 1970's feel about their choice to abandon South East Asia to the Killing Fields to "end the killing" although in retrospect fewer people died on both sides of the Vietnam War during the 12 years we had soldiers fighting in it than in the 12 years after we left At least it's one of the things that changed me from a McGovern Democrat to a Reagan Republican.
"You freaking psychopath!" I want to yell that at someone...
Shado :'(
Just saw this episode and it really really REALLY sucked that shado died. =(
i actually still can't believe that he chose Sara over Shado... :(
