I’m just starting out on the business side of things with very little money. My philosophy is that as long as I keep making and selling I can build up from there. I refuse to believe I need a business loan!!
I hear you! Some tricks I have are design and model in paper, then move the design to pleather, then when everything is looking good step up to a nice bit of tasty leather.
Good for you. I have boot strapped my coffee roastery starting in my garage. I know have a cafe, 3 employees, and wholesale clients. It can me done. Your goals may differ but when you bootstrap your business and have a bad month you won’t lose everything.
Parker, you nailed it! Honestly speaking I’ve been wondering where to begin with my craft. Felt a little embarrassed and lost. You brought it home, bud! BIG thank you! You are a positive and talented community and company guy! Big hug right back at y’all!
Perfect. Sending this to my daughter, just starting her business.. was a buyer for 37 years, so I’ve seen it all. A great presentation, EVERYONE should watch it.
What I love about this video is that you're not scared of competition. You're telling me how to compete with you (which will take a while lol). This tells me that you're in love with the craft. I'm retiring soon and looking for a hobby to do with my wife who does sewing/quilting/embroidery. She does craft shows and doing them together "might" be fun.... Thanks. Really appreciate your inspiration.
Very inspirational, I refuse to make other people rich working 8-5 and living paycheck to paycheck. Im barely starting, its hard but I love what I do and with some research I will succeed!
I love watching your videos. You are so full of life and enthusiasm it’s impossible not to like you. Your leather craft is fantastic. I got started in leather craft a few months ago and I’m having a blast. Best regards, Richard
Great content even years later. I'm a disabled vet, also have a business degree and did that while I could. So now I'm doing leather work and considering making a business. All of the little things that go into being successful is holding me back. So time will tell whether I can mentally handle it. Thanks for good info
Watched this video and it helped me pull the trigger on my Etsy shop! Three months in and 6 sales, thanks for giving me that final push. I thought about it for a year but this helped me decide to do it. Mountain Native Studio :) (From Utah living in Las Vegas)
I'm from Brazil and I like soo much your videos and your woork. I also plan to set up a small leather business. You are a super positive guy and that is a privilege for the few. May the divine be always with you.
Much respect for sharing your tips and tricks, especially considering you're effectively 'enabling the competition' - just shows the goodness in the community.
Great info! Thank you for all you do on this platform to support and encourage people to follow their passions! I started leather work a couple of months ago and watching your videos shortly after my beginnings has been incredibly helpful in building my skills and developing different products! I have a small family of my own and hope that this pursuit will let me support them through my passion! God bless!
Thanks for the hug....and and thanks for sharing your thoughts on building up a leathercraft business. I appreciate the suggestions and am going to start researching ALL of them. Great job, man!!!
Park and Whit, THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO! I do some leather work or fun on the side and am looking at building a RUclips travel channel for when we start traveling more in our Airstream. The tips you lay out here are sooooooo helpful. Great points. Thanks taking the tine to share your throughs and WISDOM, in a SUPER FUN WAY!!!
All great advice. But what also goes a long way, that NOT everyone has, is a charismatic personality. That is what you definitely have and are very engaging with your audience. Not everyone has that “umpf”.
Thank you bro!!! I needed to hear that!!! This does. Not only to complete my knife works. But I truly love This?!!! I wish I hadn't wasted my life trying to find what I truly love! I love this community. Everyone that I've met or spoken to loved sharing with me. You definitely drive my passion bro.. You and the Sarge! Are my teachers! Thanks so much for your passion and your valuable time! You rock!!!
Bro. You are an amazing person. To share all the things you struggled with when starting a business. I hope to make my business at least as great that you have created. I just wanted to say thank you.
I’m just starting to get into leather crafting and carving. So, I’m still learning. I have claimed a business name and registered it with the state, so that when I finally feel comfortable selling my products and have my website up.
The money I spend in buckles button's zippers leather etc. Is more than the market value of the finished product . Even if I don't charge for my time .
Great tips, really appreciate them. Next video topic suggestion... would love to see a second part talking about info on how to register a business, name, brand, images.. etc...
Your videos are always so fun to watch! I love the positive energy that always comes through and also many thanks on the tips - particularly the camera ones :)
Great tip! Thank you. Love your work and presentation. I am an engineer in oil and gas company. I also have a leathercraft hobby and start selling it about 4 years ago. Sometimes in the weekend i woke up early just to finishing some leather wallet. I am a sony lovers too, i use sony a7 and voigtlander 40mm. Since my daughter growing up, i am no longer have time to do leathercraft. But watching your video make my inner passion back. Thank you again.
This month I am hoping to finish set up my own leather craft business, I have my prototyping phase starting tomorrow (actually building final prototypes). I was web designer so website will not be much of a problem, paperwork and learning how businesses work in my country taxes-wise and I'm set...and this advice is priceless. Thanks for sharing so much!
Wow, packed with super information that is in depth. Love the breakdown of the cameras and how each one worked out in the final shots. I must say that your formula of excellent work and super video editing makes really enjoyable viewing! Great sense of humor also. Can really feel your energy during the whole vid. Thanks so much. Keep up the great work!
When you calculate your cost do not forget not paint/edge paint/tokonole/glue/etc. Cause a lot of time people will count in physical items, but forget about the fact that they spent 100ml of oil paint to paint the leather. p.s. have no intention to sell my projects, but still watched it :)
Great useful information in this one. I've been Leather crafting as a hobby/2nd income for about 4 years. Not quite ready to take it full time yet but this video gave me a lot to think about for when I do go full time. Thanks.
Amazing vid. Thank you. Been working on turning our high end costume replica and prop and accessories, including custom leather. Been struggling trying to find that balance as I build the brand and also get a competitive price point. This vid reinforced a lot of the things I've known I've needed to do and helped with some pricing info so thank you.
Wife and I are just in the initial stages of spinning up a crafting business (leather, jewelry, laser engraving, etc), so this video came at a great time. I've done startups before (mostly music/AV production related), but tangible goods is a whole different game. Your points helped sift out some of the chaff and focus on some highly relevant tasks that will definitely make a difference. Thanks!
Great video-lots of helpful tips! One thing I’ve always wondered about in regards to self-run business is, what do you do about problem customers? Like ones who try to return everything they buy, or use/abuse the product and return it...then go online and leave bad reviews all over the place. Know what I mean? I’m just getting into leather crafting and hope to, someday, turn a hobby into a second career, but, dealing with folks like that seems a little overwhelming.
Thanks for making the video brother! I've finally gotten to a point where I feel comfortable moving forward with leather work and all your points help give me a more clear idea of what I should be doing, but also your personality man. Social media, sharing who you are and what your about is totally key and I intend to get my craft off the ground legit this year! Thanks, love all your work and videos, keep succeeding and stay blessed 🙏
fuckkkk i love your channel!!! i had a pretty decent business but in early 2019 i shut, i was completely burnt out.... your channel has given me new motivation to start again and really look at what i need to do to avoid those same things happening. THANK YOU!!! wishing you, your biz and fam the best!!
Just starting out on this venture my skills are limited at this stage and collaborating with my son with his carving is gonna be a monster mix so fingers crossed here we go 🤞
Hello from Alaska! Found your channel a while ago but am finally digging in to learn as much as I can from you. Thank you SO much for sharing what you know.. not a whole lot of useful info on the web. Got some cash saved up and looking to build my own leather biz, I make belts but I want to branch out. Thank for the tips!
Great video! I love the info. you are sharing. It is very encouraging! I'm a camera geek too. ( Canon EOS 80-d ;P) I really do ;love that you are so open about your work. I know there are many leather workers out there who have intentionally tried to lead me astray, being that I'm new to this media. I've been a seamstress since middle school. And cooked since elem. school. I've tried 100's of things. But, have gotten bored by many things except the few I've mentioned. I have a son who is online a lot who has had people discouraging him from trying new things.( Things they profit from.) In my opinion, people like you make the world go round! There will always be a different way of doing things. Noone is going to make the exact same wallet, bag etc...unless they are into mass production. And even then there will be little differences. Keep up the good work! Your encouragement will always help someone! And that indeed is an amazing thing!
And 50 thousand people watched this video and I’m sure only about 10 will become successful. Be that 10!
Looks like two of the spots just filled up.
All 10?
a shame you aren't 1 of the 10
I’m just starting out on the business side of things with very little money. My philosophy is that as long as I keep making and selling I can build up from there. I refuse to believe I need a business loan!!
I hear you! Some tricks I have are design and model in paper, then move the design to pleather, then when everything is looking good step up to a nice bit of tasty leather.
Just make sure you reinvest some of the profits.
Good for you. I have boot strapped my coffee roastery starting in my garage. I know have a cafe, 3 employees, and wholesale clients. It can me done. Your goals may differ but when you bootstrap your business and have a bad month you won’t lose everything.
empeg9000 what do you mean by
“Bootstrap” your business?
@@prepperjonpnw6482 I started my business without any loans and pulled myself up by my "bootstraps".
Parker, you nailed it! Honestly speaking I’ve been wondering where to begin with my craft. Felt a little embarrassed and lost. You brought it home, bud!
BIG thank you! You are a positive and talented community and company guy! Big hug right back at y’all!
Thank you for the kind words Brian! Let me know if you have any questions
Perfect. Sending this to my daughter, just starting her business.. was a buyer for 37 years, so I’ve seen it all. A great presentation, EVERYONE should watch it.
Right on thanks so much Tony!
You have the best attitude my friend. Keep it up. Enthusiasm is contagious. 👍
appreciate that Mark:)
Smart and generous dude right here for putting this info out there.
Thanks Mike:)
I agree 100%. My favorite advice was about tapping into your interest community. That is key. Know who your customers are. Excellent video.
What I love about this video is that you're not scared of competition. You're telling me how to compete with you (which will take a while lol). This tells me that you're in love with the craft. Just WOW Ron! Media AND your beloved craft! You got it goin' on!
Very inspirational, I refuse to make other people rich working 8-5 and living paycheck to paycheck. Im barely starting, its hard but I love what I do and with some research I will succeed!
How's it working out for you? Interested to know, though of course it's been an unusual year...
I love watching your videos. You are so full of life and enthusiasm it’s impossible not to like you. Your leather craft is fantastic. I got started in leather craft a few months ago and I’m having a blast. Best regards, Richard
Great video mate. You’re a natural in front of the camera and I love your products. I’m feeling rather…inspired! 👍🏻
I really like your shed converted into a shop... Great idea.
Great content even years later. I'm a disabled vet, also have a business degree and did that while I could. So now I'm doing leather work and considering making a business. So glad to hear that Leah, thank you!
This is one of the best videos watched in a long time. Why? His passion, his knowledge, his work. He is fun to listen to. I admire his new shop.
I'm from Brazil and I like soo much your videos and your woork. I also plan to set up a small leather business. You are a super positive guy and that is a privilege for the few. May the divine be always with you.

Hi stock and berrel I love the leather work, for years I want to do it,I want to know how to get started
Competition is an American virtue. It can only make the marketplace better!
God bless!
That’s so great Zach and thanks for the kind words! All the best👊🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Starting to move your videos into some of the stuff I want to talk about. Super inspiring, keep on killing it.
Please do, I quite enjoy your content.
Glad to hear that! Thanks man:) Anything specific you'd like to see?
Will do! Thanks Devon!
Stock & Barrel Co keep up the good work Parker :)
Your channel rocks too, Dark Horse. Thanks for putting out good videos and tutorials as well! I've watched quite a few.
I’m a new leather hobbyist and I really appreciate this video. I’m not much of a business man but there’s lots of great info here!!! Thank you!!!
5:56 Don't use not having good gear as an excuse... So good!
Thanks for the hug....and and thanks for sharing your thoughts on building up a leathercraft business. I appreciate the suggestions and am going to start researching ALL of them. Great job, man!!!

So glad to hear that, thanks Louis:)
Park and Whit, THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO! I do some leather work or fun on the side and am looking at building a RUclips travel channel for when we start traveling more in our Airstream. All great advice. But what also goes a long way, that NOT everyone has, is a charismatic personality. That is what you definitely have and are very engaging with your audience. Not everyone has that “umpf”.
This is great advice - especially re pricing. Just bought a Juki 2810 it's a beast!!
I'm moving from silversmithing into leather crafts and this video has really inspired me. You made my day!
@Richard Simons I don't, far cheaper to buy ready made than a custom item. Silver would be too heavy and expensive.
You rock!!!
You speak very wel. Good candice and tone. Very knowledgeable and helpful

Very inspirational video for anyone thinking about starting any journey into business.

I appreciate that!
Dude, you're an inspiration. Thank you!

Great useful information in this one. I've been Leather crafting as a hobby/2nd income for about 4 years. Not quite ready to take it full time yet but this video gave me a lot to think about for when I do go full time. Thanks.
This might be my favourite leather working that I've ever watched, yet it includes no leather work!
haha thanks David
