After she had gone through menopause she could have engaged in sexual intercourse without fear of pregnancy. She also could have engaged in other sexual activities throughout her life. A big problem with these speculations is that she had virtually no privacy. Her ladies and servants were always close by, usually in the same room, as well as bodyguards being very near. She was very intelligent and clever - she could have had one or a few ladies help in keeping sexual activities private, and make it clear that they better keep quiet or they could face some serious consequences. I think she definitely was interested in men , her boy toy Essex is certainly an example. She was so active and involved in governing and dancing, horseback riding, and so much else that this very busy and important life could have helped in sublimating her libido. I think it is totally obvious why she never married - there are so many very good reasons for her not to. She wanted to be the one in control, and knew that she could reign better than virtually anyone else, and she was right. Maybe in another Court, in a different time and place, she could have behaved as bawdily as Catherine the Great. If so, more power to her, and I mean no insult to Catherine.
