Great video. We always need more One Page Rules battle reports here on RUclips. A few corrections about the rules, so you can get it next time: -Seizing Objectives: Whether a player controls an objective marker is checked at the end of the round. It doesn't get "taken" the moment a model comes within 3 inches. You have to take a marker and then HOLD IT until the round ends, before it "counts". -Unit Coherency: As stated in the "Movement" section of the rules, models in the same unit must remain within 2" of at least one other member, and within 6" of all other members. You also cannot deliberately break unit coherency (such as when selecting which models are removed due to damage). -Phalanx: It's the charging unit that makes the rolls (a dangerous terrain test), one for each model and/or tough value. Not the unit with Phalanx. The number of models with phalanx only dictates the upper limit of rolls that must be made. So when those goat riders charged the spearmen, they would have only rolled six dice, not ten. (A good way to simplify is that the charging player rolls the LOWER of either the charging unit or the charged models with phalanx). -Modified Rolls: Regardless of what modifiers are in play, 6s are always successes, and 1s are always failures. -Backing Off After Melee: Only the charging unit backs off. The unit that was charged remains where it is.
One other correction on the goats Vs spearmen aftermath (35:00ish): A unit can save using its normal defence value regardless of how many times it is hit in melee in the space of a round. The rule of needing a 6 in mellees after the first applies to quality rolls to hit, not defence rolls. EDIT: oops! Spoke too soon. You correct this at 36:00. Pardon me! Great video 👍
me and my friend have been looking for a way to have our warhammer / lotr guys fight and I came across this video. Thank you for sharing how the game is played; we're looking into the rules now
No problem buddy , i have another game uploaded already ( in the playlist ! 🙂) and will have more in the future so make sure you hit that subscribe button ! 😉
I really enjoy your battle reports. You guys seem to genuinely have fun while you're playing, which isn't something I can say about most other battle report channels.
IGO UGO is usually considered to be, one person activates their entire force and then is done, after which the other player does the same with their force (like GW games). OPR is Alternating Activations (thank God!). Games like Bolt-Action are Drafted Activations, similar, but a blind draw determines who gets to activate a unit next. Generally a round is over after all available units have been activated - though some variants of the game style include Timer Slugs that may prematurely and randomly end the round. I'm not sure why I felt the need to share that, but I have recently seen so many people describing games as IGO UGO when they aren't, and I worry it would put some people off a game, because its such a dated game-design structure.
Just finished a game of elves vs dwarves with my boy. Good game, fast and easy. Thanks for this play through video, helped with some of the more ambiguous rules.
That was tremendous fun to watch (& clearly a lot of fun to play 😊). My sincere compliments on how well you explain the rules during play, as well as making it very clear exactly what you are doing with each unit, the relevant dice rolls required & so forth… so that your viewers are not left in the dark or watching in befuddled ignorance. (It’s really disconcerting that so many other RUclips “Wargaming Channels” DON’T pay attention to any of the above & simply play a game with a camera turned on, as though that is all that’s required in order to qualify as a “Wargaming Channel.”) I only came across your channel yesterday, when I did a search for “The Men Who Would Be Kings” & happily found a video of your first game with those rules, that you had just uploaded. Despite some understandable first game mistakes that you appeared to have made when interpreting the pinning/rallying rules, (which I hope I clarified sufficiently & politely for you in the comments section), I was very impressed with your style of presentation, your genial sense of humour & even your very obvious sportsmanship throughout the gameplay. So I instantly subscribed & I’m very glad that I did! This is an EXCELLENT Channel… one whose varied gaming content I look forward to watching… & I really hope that your Channel grows & enjoys much success. From what I’ve seen of it so far, you deserve it. Sincere Best Wishes To You ~ LOUIS C. 🤝
Re-watching (again!) and had a question on the Halfling Goat Cav. I see you used TWO models on each cav stand (other than Beatrix)... assume it is representing ONE stand for gaming tho? Is it because of the smaller size of the miniature? But then in a later battle report you have undead grim knights single based. Again, really well done on these BRs!
Hi Rob 👋... no youre spot on dude ... the goat cav are to small so they look lost on a cav base and i would have done the same with the grim knights except they have like these flowing cloaks from the ponys which means when you add a second they overlap and look very crowded !? ... so maybe not very consistent but hopefully not to confusing 😅
Fantastic video guys. I can’t stop watching it. Because I’m trying to learn how to play Grimdark Future (not Fire fight) and even with the full rule book I find it quite a challenge. This video has been a great help because the rules are pretty similar. And you guys are doing such a great job at showing everything clearly. The battle area, dice rolls, debating the rules and everything step by step. It is done so well and friendly that it almost feels like I’m in the same room with my best friends learning how to play this game. One of the things that I have learned from you two is how to do the melee actions and resolve. It makes sense know. Both you and John are not intimidating at all. By the way the camera work in this video is much better than in the follow up one. In this video I can almost see the eyes on the miniatures, everything is very clear and the explaining part is just awesome. I noticed that you guys also play 40k Imperial Guard. So I beg you guys. Please please. In the Emperor’s holy name. Please do a video explaining how to play Grimdark Future Imperial Guard against an enemy. Oh and please play against John. He is a great and fun opponent. And just do it like this one fun and educational so that total beginners can follow along and learn. Thanks in advance guys.

Enjoyed this. I subscribed to your channel back when you started the Lion Rampant battle reports as I liked the system and you looked like you were having fun. I used to play Dragon Rampant but recently discovered Age Of Fantasy, and what do you know, here you are with an Age Of Fantasy battle report! If I hadn't already subscribed to your channel, this would make me do so! I look forward to more. Just one thing, if you buy the full rules on Drive Thru RPG (or, I think, on the One Pages Patreon) you get more rules including extra activation rules like pulling tokens out of a bag to see who goes like the Bolt Action system, a system I personally prefer, as well as a host of others.
That's right; you can buy the individual rulebooks on Drive Thru, or for about the price of one rulebook, you can become a Tier 1 patron, which not only gets you _all_ the full rulebooks, but also the unit creation system, so you can build your own units and even armies, and cost them up using the same formula as the game's author... Tier 2 (about 2 rulebooks' worth) is for a whole bunch of STL files for 3D printing; you usually get a dozen or more units across 4 armies each month, and code to get a huge discount on what's already available. Plus you also frequently get a couple of bonus free models from other creators, as Gaetano does cross-promotion deals...
